WLC 4402 and 1000 series APs

I just want to ask if this is possible:
Certain group of APs will advertise a
specific SSID which will not be advertised
by other APs.
thanks,

Hi Raul,
This is probably the feature that can help with this requirement;
Have a look at this info;
Enabling WLAN Override
By default, access points transmit all defined WLANs on the controller. However, you can use the WLAN Override option to select which WLANs are transmitted and which ones are not on a per access point basis. For example, you can use WLAN override to control where in the network the guest WLAN is transmitted or you can use it to disable a specific WLAN in a certain area of the network.
From this doc;
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008076cbfd.html#wp1114777
Once you create a new WLAN, the WLAN > Edit page for the new WLAN appears. In this page you can define various parameters specific to this WLAN including General Policies, RADIUS Servers, Security Policies, and 802.1x Parameters.
**Check Admin Status under General Policies to enable the WLAN. If you want the AP to broadcast the SSID in its beacon frames, check Broadcast SSID.
Note: You can configure up to sixteen WLANs on the controller. The Cisco WLAN Solution can control up to sixteen WLANs for Lightweight APs. Each WLAN has a separate WLAN ID (1 through 16), a separate WLAN SSID (WLAN name), and can be assigned unique security policies. Lightweight APs broadcast all active Cisco WLAN Solution WLAN SSIDs and enforce the policies that you define for each WLAN.
From this good doc;

Hope this helps!

    1600 series aps
    2600 series aps

    i noticed some errors from prime:
    error 1: Exception while computing Coverage Heatmap. Message: COMMON-1 Try Recompute RF Prediction - this error message shows after positioning the aps on the map and clicking save button. it took sometime to display then this error message shows.
    error 2: Error in Recompute RF Prediction: SyntaxError:syntax error - this error shows after running recompute rf prediction option
    i tried 802.11a/n and 802.11b/g/n protocols but still no heatmap. i tried unselecting ap heatmaps option and select it again but still no heatmap.
    anybody have an idea what is going on? tia

    Hi,
    Try removing both APs from the map and saving. Next, go back into the map an assign the APs. If they still do not map then I would look at the traps on the controller and make sure that the AP is fine. I would also look at performing an on demand refresh from the controller to the WCS. You can do this from the management page in WCS.

  • Differences Between WLC 2000 and 4400 series

    Besides the supported number of access points, what are the differences in features between the WLC 2000 and 4400 series?

    On the 2006, you have 4 ports on the back, that can support up to 3 AP's being directly connected, and the other port as your connection to the network, and it does not support LAG (Link AGgregation). The ports are 10/100M, and it can not be an anchor for a mobility group.
    On the 4400, you either have a 4402 or a 4404,the 2 has 2 Gig interfaces, and the 4404 has 4 Gig interfaces, you can not connect AP's directly to a 4400. Both 4400's will support LAG, and they can be used as anchors in a mobility group. Those are the big differences in them. They configure up the same, and interact with the wired and wireless networks the same.

  • Wlc 4402 and 1010 Aps

    Hi,
    I have 2 vlans (wired-side) in my corporation: the first one for Data (vlan 1, native) and the second one for voice (vlan 2). We've just get a wlc 4402 with 1010 Aps and I would like to know one thing:
    Could I create 2 Ssids(one for voice and another for Data) and map each one to its wired Vlan?.
    Does the 1010 Ap support 802.1q?
    Thanks in advance for your help

    The 1010 aps connect to the switches as hosts
    (switchport mode access; switchport access vlan ...)
    The controller has 2 ports that connect to the network as trunks. You can connect them as port 1 and 2, or put them in a lag group [aka etherchannel)
    All the vlan trunking is done at the controller port to switch port. The AP sends the info down to the controller over the vlan specified for the aps
    In your case, you should create another vlan for the APS.
    The 4402 controller mgmt interface would sit in the same vlan as the APs. You would then create dynamic interfaces on the controller that have a vlan id and ip address for the desired network per your needs. You would then create a wlan on the controller and then bind it to the dynamic interface you just created.
    I am oversimplfying this process quite a bit, but it should get you started. There is now a good bit of info on cisco.com for the wireless products

  • WLC 4402 and LAP1252

    Hi,
    I have a WLC4402 and have been able to associate a LAP1252 with it. I have a WLAN (SSID Test1) on the same subnet as the management interface. Test1 is associated with the management interface and clients are able join that WLAN and obtain an IP address from the scope for the management VLAN 10.
    I created a dynamic interface called HRINT with VLAN 20, created a second WLAN called HR and associated it with the HRINT. I have a scope for the HR WLAN, but not able to obtain an IP address.
    my switchport on the Cisco switch is trunking and allowing the vlan for the management and HRINT. I also noticed when i use the WLC GUI to view the dynamic interface HRINT created it says disable, is this normal? Why am I not able to obtain an IP address from the new WLAN created.
    Have been banging my head for two days :-)

    The interface showing disabled is most likely under the dynamic AP management column which is what you want to see for a dynamic interface.
    Where is your DHCP server, on the controller, switch, router, external server?
    Can the controller ping the default gateway of the dynamic interface?

  • WLC 4402 and SNMP values

    Hi all,
    I need to change via SNMP v2C the value of the PSK for WPA/WPA2 for a specific SSID.
    How can do that ?
    Tnx a lot for an answer

    The method I have used is;
    snmpwalk -c -v 2c enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4
    This will return an index list of the SSID's that you have defined on the controller. Ie;
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.1 = STRING: "Widget Inc."
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.2 = STRING: "Guest"
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.3 = STRING: "Lab"
    Then, set the PSK of the SSID based on the index value (the last number in the OID) ;
    ie.
    snmpset -c -v 2c enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.7.x i 3 enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.8.x string
    where x is the index value.
    So, for example to set the Guest SSID for controler 10.10.1.1;
    snmpwalk -c -v 2c 10.10.1.1 enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4
    returns;
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.1 = STRING: "Widget Inc."
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.2 = STRING: "Guest"
    2 is the index value for the Guest SSID.
    To set the PSK to 0011001100 (not recommeneded!) then;
    snmpset -c -v 2c 10.10.1.1 enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.7.2 i 3 enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.8.2 string 0011001100
    I hope that explains it easily enough.
    If anyone can find a way of reading back the PSK once set, I'd be grateful! I haven't been able to do that yet!

  • WLC 4402 vlan questions

    I am trying to implement a Cisco Wireless solution. I have some Cisco knowledge, but it is limited. I did successfully configure the WLC 4402 with 1200 series APs. Created two WLANs, each with its own SSID. SSID ?guest? uses WEP, and gets addresses via the internal DHCP server. The DCHP range I chose exists within out current network, something I need to change according to the documentation I have read. This network should not see our network, but can browse the internet. SSID ?secure? uses WPA with MAC authentication. I can connect to either SSID and access all network resources. However this only works with two caveats.
    1) I have to use the management interface
    2) The DHCP range for the guest network needs to fall within our network
    Trying to implement any kind of security for the ?guest? network has not gone so well. I have problems just about at every point. After reading some documents, I decided I needed to add 2 interfaces for the 2 WLANs. My interface info is below.
    Interface Name Mgr Port Vlan Id IP Address Type Ap
    ap-manager LAG untagged 10.1.104.154 Static Yes
    guest LAG 10 192.168.10.10 Dynamic No
    management LAG untagged 10.1.104.153 Static No
    production LAG 20 192.168.20.20 Dynamic No
    service-port N/A N/A 192.168.1.1 Static No
    virtual N/A N/A 1.1.1.1 Static No
    My intention was to apply an access list the guest VLAN so as to limit its traffic. If I apply the guest interface ?VLAN 10 (instead of the management-VLAN 0) it doesn?t work. I found a doc that addresses this so I added trunking to the interface the WLC is attached to on our 6509 (CatOS)switch.
    MySwitch (enable) set trunk 2/6 on dot1q
    Trunking is enabled, but no dice. I thought this might be a routing issue between my switch and my gateway. So I changed the VLAN on the management interface. I thought this would at the very least allow me to ping the switch, but I was wrong. I changed that back and added this entry into our gateway
    interface Vlan10
    ip address 192.168.20.1 255.255.255.0
    I thought that way the wireless controller would be able to see the IP address, on the router, but it didn?t work.
    Also I cannot use the new DHCP range I chose (192.168.10.x), I assume because it is not 10.1.x.x, so it can?t find it.
    I would really appreciate some help from someone who has done this. I am very confused.

    Hi
    Okay number of things here.
    Firstly you are correct about needing a trunk interface between the WLC and your switch. Make sure that all the vlans you have created are allowed on the trunk link.
    On the 6509 run
    "sh int trunk" and confirm that the status is up.
    You will need to create vlan interfaces for each of your WLC vlans on the 6500. You say you have created vlan 10 interface on the 6500.
    What is the default gateway on the WLC set to ?
    For DHCP addressing to work you will need to us eth "ip helper-address "DHCP IP address" under the vlan interface eg
    vlan 10
    ip address 192.168.20.1 255.255.255.0
    ip helper-address "DHCP server address"
    You need to do this for all vlan interfaces you want to pick IP addresses up for clients.

  • Remote update of a 1000 series LWAP

    My company recently went from an old airspace 4024 with firmware 3-2-195-13 to a new 4402-50 running 4-1-185-0. Using Option 43 in DHCP allowed the new 4402 to see the AP's on different VLan's and Subnet's and issue IP addresses to the AP's and clients. It appears several of the AP's have not pulled down the new firmware and are stuck at 3.2. I have rebooted the AP's and tried multiple other tricks. Is there a Cisco utility that will allow me to update these LWAP's via mac or IP? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm sure I could go around, collect these AP's bring them back to the 4402's location throw it in layer 2, reboot and they would take the update but that is too time consuming of a process.

    I know from experience that the 1131 and 1230 APs can't be upgraded from 3.2 to 4.1 because a 440x controller can't be upgraded from 3.2 to 4.1.
    Check the release notes on the 4-1-185 software.
    They state:
    "Important Note: If you are running any lower version than 4.0.206.0 in 4.0 stream or if you are running lower version than 3.2.195.10 image in 3.0 stream , please upgrade the controller to 4.0.206.0 or higher for 4.0 stream and 3.2.195.10 or higher for 3.0 stream before loading 4.1.171.0 image."
    They are suggesting that if you want your APs to upgrade from their current 3.2 software you must upgrade them to 4.0.x software first. Then you can upgrade to 4-1-185.
    I would downgrade the controller software and see if the 1000 series APs will run the lower version. Then I would upgrade the controller to the latest software and verify that these APs are running 4-1-185 software.
    Hope this helps.

  • WLC 5508 and LAP1310 - Not syncing up!

    As the title states I have a WLC 5508 and a LAP1310 that will not sync up.
    The error stated in the traps log is "AP with MAC (xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx) is unknown."
    WLC software release is : 7.2.103.0
    IOS on the AP is : 12.4(18a)JA2
    Upon some investigation I found that the "AP with MAC is unknown" error usually points to one of two things:
    A.  WLC firmware needs to be updated
    B.  AP needs to be updated.
    C. The AP is not compatible with the WLC.
    I am leaning toward solution C and I am looking for a conformation or a correction, if anyone could help out that would be greatly appreciated!
    I've tried reading the compatibility matrix released by Cisco, but I found it mildly confusing as to what is and isn't supported by each software release.

    Problem 11: 1250 LAP Not Able to Join WLC
    The setup consists of a 2106 WLC that runs version 4.1.185.0. A Cisco 1250 AP is not able to join the controller.
    The log on the WLC shows this:
    Mon Jun 2 21:19:37 2008 AP with MAC f0:2x:cf:2x:1d:3x (APf02x.cf2x.1d3x) is unknown.

    Mon Jun 2 21:19:03 2008 AP with MAC f0:2x:cf:2x:1d:3x (APf02x.cf2x.1d3x) is unknown.
    Solution: This is because the Cisco 1250 series LAP is not supported on version 4.1. The Cisco Aironet 1250 Series AP is supported from controller versions 4.2.61 and later. In order to fix this issue, upgrade the controller software to 4.2.61.0 or later.
    Problem 16: 1000 series LAPs not able to join the Wireless LAN controller, WLC runs version 5.0
    This is because WLC software release 5.0.148.0 or later is not compatible with Cisco Aironet 1000 series APs. If you have a Cisco 1000 series LAP in a network, which runs WLC versions 5.0.48.0, the 1000 series LAP does not join the controller and you see this trap message on the WLC.

  • WLC 4402 + 4 1130AP's.

    Has anyone setup a WLC 4402 and few 1130AP's on their network? Here's the scenario we have VLAN's setup on our network. We want to be able an employee can connect to the internal network and public connect to a DSL Internet. I got the internal employee access the internal network but I couldn't get the DSL users connect to the Internet. Internal network uses DHCP server and DSL users uses Linksys DHCP server. Can someone point me to the right setup/config on 1130AP's to connect to DSL using WLC 4402?

    Make sure you can get the VLAN to the internet before you setup the WLAN. 1st off I would test the VLAN that you have setup to go to DSL on a switcport on your core switch and work the DHCP issues out there and then work on the WLAN. can you ping your DSL router intface from your switch. If you can my guess is that the IP helper address is not set right.
    You will then need to point the WLAN to VLAN you setup for the DSL.
