WLC 4402 and LAP1252

Hi,
I have a WLC4402 and have been able to associate a LAP1252 with it. I have a WLAN (SSID Test1) on the same subnet as the management interface. Test1 is associated with the management interface and clients are able join that WLAN and obtain an IP address from the scope for the management VLAN 10.
I created a dynamic interface called HRINT with VLAN 20, created a second WLAN called HR and associated it with the HRINT. I have a scope for the HR WLAN, but not able to obtain an IP address.
my switchport on the Cisco switch is trunking and allowing the vlan for the management and HRINT. I also noticed when i use the WLC GUI to view the dynamic interface HRINT created it says disable, is this normal? Why am I not able to obtain an IP address from the new WLAN created.
Have been banging my head for two days :-)

The interface showing disabled is most likely under the dynamic AP management column which is what you want to see for a dynamic interface.
Where is your DHCP server, on the controller, switch, router, external server?
Can the controller ping the default gateway of the dynamic interface?

  • Wlc 4402 and 1010 Aps

    Hi,
    I have 2 vlans (wired-side) in my corporation: the first one for Data (vlan 1, native) and the second one for voice (vlan 2). We've just get a wlc 4402 with 1010 Aps and I would like to know one thing:
    Could I create 2 Ssids(one for voice and another for Data) and map each one to its wired Vlan?.
    Does the 1010 Ap support 802.1q?
    Thanks in advance for your help

    The 1010 aps connect to the switches as hosts
    (switchport mode access; switchport access vlan ...)
    The controller has 2 ports that connect to the network as trunks. You can connect them as port 1 and 2, or put them in a lag group [aka etherchannel)
    All the vlan trunking is done at the controller port to switch port. The AP sends the info down to the controller over the vlan specified for the aps
    In your case, you should create another vlan for the APS.
    The 4402 controller mgmt interface would sit in the same vlan as the APs. You would then create dynamic interfaces on the controller that have a vlan id and ip address for the desired network per your needs. You would then create a wlan on the controller and then bind it to the dynamic interface you just created.
    I am oversimplfying this process quite a bit, but it should get you started. There is now a good bit of info on cisco.com for the wireless products

    Hello all,
    I am trying to enable the 802.11a and use the 5Ghz band in my house. However, I am having difficulty in doing this. Please see screenshot below. I have select AU (Australia) as my regulatory domain (2nd image). 802.11a band is enabled(3rd image), but the interface is still down (1st image). Australia regulatory code is -Z. Not sure why -A and -N are showing up

  • WLC 4402 and 1000 series APs

    I just want to ask if this is possible:
    Certain group of APs will advertise a
    specific SSID which will not be advertised
    by other APs.
    thanks,

    Hi Raul,
    This is probably the feature that can help with this requirement;
    Have a look at this info;
    Enabling WLAN Override
    By default, access points transmit all defined WLANs on the controller. However, you can use the WLAN Override option to select which WLANs are transmitted and which ones are not on a per access point basis. For example, you can use WLAN override to control where in the network the guest WLAN is transmitted or you can use it to disable a specific WLAN in a certain area of the network.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008076cbfd.html#wp1114777
    Once you create a new WLAN, the WLAN > Edit page for the new WLAN appears. In this page you can define various parameters specific to this WLAN including General Policies, RADIUS Servers, Security Policies, and 802.1x Parameters.
    **Check Admin Status under General Policies to enable the WLAN. If you want the AP to broadcast the SSID in its beacon frames, check Broadcast SSID.
    Note: You can configure up to sixteen WLANs on the controller. The Cisco WLAN Solution can control up to sixteen WLANs for Lightweight APs. Each WLAN has a separate WLAN ID (1 through 16), a separate WLAN SSID (WLAN name), and can be assigned unique security policies. Lightweight APs broadcast all active Cisco WLAN Solution WLAN SSIDs and enforce the policies that you define for each WLAN.
    From this good doc;

  • WLC 4402 and SNMP values

    Hi all,
    I need to change via SNMP v2C the value of the PSK for WPA/WPA2 for a specific SSID.
    How can do that ?
    Tnx a lot for an answer

    The method I have used is;
    snmpwalk -c -v 2c enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4
    This will return an index list of the SSID's that you have defined on the controller. Ie;
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.1 = STRING: "Widget Inc."
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.2 = STRING: "Guest"
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.3 = STRING: "Lab"
    Then, set the PSK of the SSID based on the index value (the last number in the OID) ;
    ie.
    snmpset -c -v 2c enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.7.x i 3 enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.8.x string
    where x is the index value.
    So, for example to set the Guest SSID for controler 10.10.1.1;
    snmpwalk -c -v 2c 10.10.1.1 enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4
    returns;
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.1 = STRING: "Widget Inc."
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.2 = STRING: "Guest"
    2 is the index value for the Guest SSID.
    To set the PSK to 0011001100 (not recommeneded!) then;
    snmpset -c -v 2c 10.10.1.1 enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.7.2 i 3 enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.8.2 string 0011001100
    I hope that explains it easily enough.
    If anyone can find a way of reading back the PSK once set, I'd be grateful! I haven't been able to do that yet!

  • WLC 4402 + 4 1130AP's.

    Has anyone setup a WLC 4402 and few 1130AP's on their network? Here's the scenario we have VLAN's setup on our network. We want to be able an employee can connect to the internal network and public connect to a DSL Internet. I got the internal employee access the internal network but I couldn't get the DSL users connect to the Internet. Internal network uses DHCP server and DSL users uses Linksys DHCP server. Can someone point me to the right setup/config on 1130AP's to connect to DSL using WLC 4402?

    Make sure you can get the VLAN to the internet before you setup the WLAN. 1st off I would test the VLAN that you have setup to go to DSL on a switcport on your core switch and work the DHCP issues out there and then work on the WLAN. can you ping your DSL router intface from your switch. If you can my guess is that the IP helper address is not set right.
    You will then need to point the WLAN to VLAN you setup for the DSL.

         Do you know how to solve this?

    Sorry for answer until now,

  • Create a point to point link with a wlc 4402

    Hi to all,
    i have a wlc 4402 and i need to configure a point to point link with two air-lap1310g-e-k9, i have found on cisco.com this link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_configuration_example09186a00808e9c1b.shtml#zero
    but on the wlc configuration page i cannot found some configuration step.
    Someone have configured this type of behaviour or can give me some hints?!
    How can i configure on the wlc the parameter about the bridges configuration?! Or i must configure the bridges overriding the global configuration?!
    Thanks and best regards,
    Carlo Sagratella.

    The correct thing to do would be to downgrade the 1310's to autonomous (or 1242's) and set up a root bridge and non-root bridge.
    Alternately however, if you REALLY wanted one of the points to be LWAPP, in theory you could always make one of the Access Points Autonomous and join it as a workgroup bridge to the LWAPP AP. However, there really is no reason to do that since it would be cleaner to convert both to autonomous.

  • WLC 4402 username and password expires automatically

    Hi,
    We are facing issue with Cisco WLC 4402 (Cisco AireOS Version 4.2.205.0) and username and password expired automatically. It happens very often. We are not able to retreive the password, so everytime we need to reset(factory default) the Cisco WLC4402 and doing fresh installation.
    Whether it is the hardware issue or software bug.
    Also is there any possibility of recover the username and [password with resetting the cisco wlc4402.
    Kindly suggest on this issue.
    Regards
    S.Manikandan

    Hmmm.. Strange!! are we using any TACACS to manage?? or just the management username and password??
    I guess after 5.2 WLC code or so we have the option of resetting the password without losing the config!!

  • Wireless controller ha between wlc5508 and wlc 4402

    We have 2 wlc:  a wlc 5508 ( license 100 AP ) and  wlc 4402 ( license 12AP).
    We try to setup when 5508 down, 12 identify AP (important AP -Group A) will join 4402 and all other AP (not improtan AP -Group B)
    wont joint  wlc 4402.
    First, all AP join wlc 5508, 2 WLC have same mobility group.
    After that, we  config 12 APs belongto group A have primary and secondary wlc, group B only has primary wlc.
    When wlc 5508 down, some of APs of GroupA and   some of APs of GroupB join wlc 4402. We test many times and we have differnet result each times.
    is theare any way to resolve our problem?
    Thanks.

    Just to add, make sure that the WLC is running the same code, if not, then make sure the ap is supported on the code that is running on the 5508. The issue with mixed code is the ap will upgrade and downgrade very time they switch to a different WLC.

  • Rolling upgrade of WLC 4402 controllers and APs

    In need to upgrade the software on two WLC 4402 controller in a hospital.   Both WLCs have the same config and one is primary (has all APs connected) and the other backup (no APs connected.)  The APs are placed so there is still coverage if one goes down in an area.    My question - is it possible to do a rolling upgrade to have no downtime for the wireless clients?  My plan would be to upgrade the backup WLC then selectively move APs to it.  If I swap the primary and secondary controllers in the high availability tab on each AP, do I need to do a reset (General - Hardware Reset) or will it automatically reboot and connect to the upgraded backup controller?   When I'm done, I'd upgrade the primary controller and now call that backup.   Does this make sense?

    I've done this same sort of thing on a slightly larger scale about 5 times now at the hospital I work at.  Quick answer is "Yes, it is possible to do a rolling upgrade and have no downtime for wireless clients."
    I've got 5 WLC's, and I use the high availability tab to move all the AP's off one, upgrade it, and move all the AP's from the next WLC over to it, upgrade that one, etc.
    The thing you need to be careful of is your timing and your choice of APs to move.
    It generally takes about a minute to move an AP between WLCs running the same version.  But if there's a version change that makes the AP upgrade, you're looking at about 6 minutes.
    I do them one at a time, and when they show up in the WLC as being up, running and happy for 1 minute, I do the next one.  And so on.  Takes me about 3 days to go through all 5 WLCs and 375 APs.  Not once have I had a user notice the move.
    Also, in order to test, after I do the first upgrade, I move just one area's APs into that WLC for a day and then test the various flavors of gear we have (phones, infusion pumps, laptops, etc.) to confirm that the new version doesn't have any trouble.  Sometimes it does and I work with TAC to get things resolved before I do the whole hospital.
