Wlc 4402 fine tuning
Hello,
In one of our building we have a wlc 4402 controller with 50 1130 APs.
This setup is mainly used for VOIP Wireless with a 7921 phone.
I need advices on how i can fine tune the APs to obtain the very maximum
coverage for the 7921 phone.
thanks
there is no tweaks i can do to obtain better coverage ?
i can do some trade-off on wifi signal since the setup is used only for the one 7921 telephone.
thanks again

Cisco AIR-LAP1041N-E-K9 not working with WLC 4402 version 7.0.116.0
Hi All,
appreciate your support for a problem i started facing today. i have a Cisco WLC 4402 running version 7.0.116.0 and it is working great with 25 Cisco 1252 APs. we have recieved a new 20 Cisco 1041N APs today and i installed one in our site but it doesn't work. it worked fine and loaded the image from flash and got the WLC ip address through DHCP option and started showing the below error:

i searched for the regulatory domains difference between AIR-LAP1041N-E-K9 and AIR-LAP1041N-A-K9 and didn't find any difference that may affect the operation of this AP.
just to mention that our configuration in WLC for regulatory domains is:
Configured Country Code(s) AR
Regulatory Domain 802.11a: -A
802.11bg: -A
My question is, should i only include my country in the WLC (IQ) to add the requlatry domain (-E) to solve this problem? or changing the country will affect the operation of all working APs??
Appreciate your kind support,
Wisam Q.Hi Ramon,
thank you for the reply but as shown in the below link:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn7.0.html#wp233793
the WLC in version 7.0.116.0 supports Cisco 1040 seiries APs.
Thanks,

WLC 4402-50 with ACS 3.3
Hi,
We want to use ACS to authenticate an ssh or http connection to a WLC 4403-50 4.2.99 using TACACS+. On our ACS 4.2 test server it works fine. Configured identically on an ACS 3.3 appliance we are not able to log in although we do see a successful login in the Passed Authentications report withing ACS.
Is there an incompatability between the WLC 4402-50 with ACS 3.3?
thanks
BobThe Cisco Secure Access Control Server (ACS) provides authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) services for users of the wireless network.
It is also possible to employ a WLC controller strategy that uses an N+1 approach. When using N+1 architecture, each WLC is configured with a WLC that is designated as a backup WLC in the event of a failure. This controller is not used until there is a failure event upon which all APs using the failed controller switch to the backup WLC. This cost-effective approach provides a high level of availability in the event of a single WLC failure scenario. -
Hi,
I have a WLC 4402 Wireless LAN Controller with multiple 1231 AP on LWAPP. WLAN has security setting on WPA+WPA2 with PSK share key. All computers in domain are fine, wireless connections are steady. I have a group of students use Netbook on Windows XP Home SP3 got connection and drop situation. Event ID on XP has continuous 4201 and 4202 cases, and on WLC log I have also continuous log as
*Apr 19 10:35:44.046: %DOT1X-3-MAX_EAPOL_KEY_RETRANS: 1x_ptsm.c:407 Max EAPOL-key M1 retransmissions exceeded for client 00:26:5e:eb:fd:0a
I understand XP Home has no certificate from Domain environment therefore I didn't setup any AAA server service. How can this problem be resolved? Keep trying on security combination, but no luck. Please Help. Thanks.
Attachment is WLC configuration file without encryption.Hi, Kayle
Thanks for quick reply. Its not ASUS EeePC but ASUS s10e. The wireless LAN device is Broadcom 802.11g. I check with Lenono System Update, no newer driver available. Thanks. -
Currently using WLC 4402 with about a dozen WAPs. I would like to start logging some messages to troubleshoot some association issues. The syslog does not seem adequate for this the issues I am having. I noticed the default SNMP traps but is only holds 255 traps. I have tried to setup an SNMP server to get the traps but I get no data, only OID values. I was successful in getting the MIBs for the OIDs but still not all the data that I see on the brief traps screen.
Hi,
I have tried it with solarwinds and works fine for me. Talking about the traps. But they are too many.
The OID is : 1.3.6.1.4.1.14179.1.1.2.4.1.22
snmp info for polling:
MIB Value Type: Raw Value
Format: None
SNMP Get Type: Get Table
Polling Type: node
On WLC go to Managemnet (top TAB)
Right hand select > SNMP > Traps Control.
In this menu select what traps to need to be logged.
These traps will be shows on the oid polled. -
WLC 4402 Web Authentication, Mac Filtering and Layer 2 Seciruty
Hi All,
I have configured web authentication and Mac filtering on WLC 4402 for my wireless network and its working fine. I wants to configure layer 2 security for the same Wireless network without pre shared key. Could you please advice how to configure layer 2 security with web authentication withour preshare key.
Is there any security issue with web authentication and Mac FIltering only? My concern in my wireless network shows open.
Thanks,
KashifHi,
if you have a ACS, then you can do Web auth Splash page!!! Please refer to the below doc!!

Hi,
we have a Wireless LAN Controller WLC 4402, Software Version 4.1.192.22M (Mesh).
At the moment there are 6 Access Points in one house, one of them is the root AP. The others are only connected via electrical socket.
AP’s are: AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9 / Boot Version 12.3.8.0 / IOS Version 12.4(3g)JMC1
I think the configuration worked fine over a period of 2 years.
Now the problem is that the number of access points connected to the controller is changing nearly every minute. At times there is only one AP connected to the controller. So it is impossible for the clients to build up a steady connection. They have to log in via the guest user web interface at short intervals or they can’t see the wireless lan.
First we thought it would be a problem of one or two “defect” access points. But we replaced 4 of the 6 access points and the problem is still there.
An example, yesterday:
13:17 o’clock – 2 AP’s
13:19 o’clock – 4 AP’s
13:21 o’clock – 5 AP’s
13:23 o’clock – 4 AP’s
13:25 o’clock – 5 AP’s
13:25 o’clock – 4 AP’s
13:26 o’clock – 5 AP’s
13:26 o’clock – 6 AP’s
13:28 o’clock – 4 AP’s
13:28 o’clock – 2 AP’s
Eye-catching is the following message of the log, which appears often: “52 Mon May 16 13:21:56 2011 AP 'AP001d.e557.6fd8', MAC: 00:1d:70:01:bc:20 disassociated previously due to AP Reset. Last reboot reason: power loss
Also eye-catching is the AP up time. The Root AP is up for over 80 days. But all the other access points show an up time of a few minutes until some hours…but not more.
Does anybody know what the problem could be?? I read some similar threads but no solution.
In the following an abstract of the log:

Hey,
last week I tried to upgrade the controller step-by-step.
Under the software 4.1.192.35M the problem was still there… access points were often disassociated from the controller.
There were problems with Software 4.2.207.54M too. The access points couldn’t reach the download-status. The log of the access point said that it could not open the tar-file.
So I went back to 4.1.192.35M. Of course the controller lost some of its configuration. I configured it new with the same settings as before.
After it the wireless connection seemed to be a little bit more robust. I asked the users to test the connection at the weekend and this is the answer:
“so we tested the WLAN during the weekend. The situation definitely improved with respect to before. Authetication is much faster and the connection (when active) is sensibly faster.
However the connection is still very unstable and it is necessary every five-ten minutes to reconnect (especially for intense network traffic like when watching a streaming content or using VOIP applications. Actually switching off and on again the WLAN card (Airport) often a new authentication is not required. However, without doing so the connection would not resume alone to a working state.
So what to say? Better than before (thanks) but far from being fixed. From last September to January we did not experience any problem, so it must be something that chronologically happened at the beginning of the year, it is not a systemic problem.
But there were no changes or anything else at the beginning of the year.
Do you mean it makes sense to resume upgrading? I’m a little bit afraid of more problems like under 4.2.207.54M

Problem to register upgraded AP 1242 to WLC 4402
Hi,
I am running a small Cisco WLAN with about 20 APs (all 1242) that are managed by two WLC 4402 (running v4.0.155.0).
WLCs are in Mobility group, serveral WLANs/VLANs are configured (including 802.1x, guest access with WebAuthentication etc.). All APs are configured for the same WLC as primary and the other as secondary. Everthing was working fine until I tried to upgrade another AP from IOS to LWAPP using the Cisco Upgrade tool.
After the AP was flashed and rebooted it started to discover a WLC but fails. The console messages look like this:
*Mar 1 00:00:05.962: %CDP_PD-4-POWER_OK: Full power - AC_ADAPTOR inline power source
*Mar 1 00:00:06.952: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface FastEthernet0, changed state to up
*Mar 1 00:00:07.952: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN:
ap> Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet0, changed state to up
*Mar 1 00:00:25.960: %LWAPP-5-CHANGED: LWAPP changed state to DISCOVERY
Translating "CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.xxx.yyy"...domain server (10.x.y.z)
*Mar 1 00:00:35.348: %DHCP-6-ADDRESS_ASSIGN: Interface FastEthernet0 assigned DHCP address 10.x.y.z, mask 255.255.254.0, hostname AP0019.3076.fe30
*Mar 1 00:00:36.349: LWAPP_CLIENT_ERROR: lwapp_name_lookup - Could Not resolve CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.xxx.yyy
*Mar 1 00:00:46.398: %LWAPP-5-CHANGED: LWAPP changed state to JOIN
*Mar 1 00:00:54.397: LWAPP_CLIENT_ERROR_DEBUG: spamHandleJoinTimer: Did not recieve the Join response
*Mar 1 00:00:54.397: LWAPP_CLIENT_ERROR_DEBUG: No more AP manager IP addresses remain.
*Mar 1 00:00:54.397: %SYS-5-RELOAD: Reload requested by LWAPP CLIENT. Reload Reason: DID NOT GET JOIN RESPONSE.
*Mar 1 00:00:54.398: %LWAPP-5-CHANGED: LWAPP changed state to DOWN
The switchport of the AP is configured for the same VLAN as the management and ap-management interface of the controller (not native VLAN), the primary controller is set to master controller mode and I see no other error messages (e. g. on the WLC).
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
(even adding a "CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER" host in the DNS does not help!!!)Hi Ankur,

To extend a clip I have `Show Fine Tuning controls' turned on in my iMovie 11 preferences, but the blue forward/backward buttons don't appear. To get the orange handle bar, is there a hotkey?
That's a comment in the file. It has no effect at all.

Fixing Radio: Fine tuning songs (Hits, Variety or Discovery Mode)
Our radio has always been weird, you never know what songs it plays, and it always REPEATS THE SAME GOD darn SONG over the past hour.
It's time to fix it.
If you've tried, or at least clicked into an app of a competing service, this is how it looks like:
You can kinda tune the station to WHAT YOU LIKE, for eg, Hits, Variety, or Discovery and the radio will adapt what you want to hear.
Here's another example (A not very solid example though):
As you may know, Echo Nest is now a Spotify company, anyway, this shows the radio where you can slide to whether artist only or discovery in general (This might not be a good example, as if I just wanted to listen to the artist, I would've just went into the artist page and click on Shuffle Play.)
Here's another example:
This is a relatively new music service, but if you've tried its radio, you wil find out that its really really spectacular. You can tell the service what is your mood and it plays songs based on that, but if that's not enough. It actually has brand new algorithms that is built just for this, I read somewhere that it even monitors your location, the songs you play in that location/event, the volume the song is playing and when you hit the radio mode, it will analyze all of this algorithms and play based on that.
So the radio needs improvements in its really bad algorithms and a fine tuning option.
PS: If you go the comments section of this idea, in page 2, bought up a really good visual of a competing music service vs Spotify when using the radio, if you've time you should take a look and if possible share more of the problems that you face with Spotify Radio."Improving Station" is a joke. I have a station based on Laura Nyro. I keep getting the same very popular Nyro songs (but even that rarely) and some other 60s, 70s, 80s female vocalists. Nothing newer. I also get a ton of stuff nothing like Nyro, including male vocalists and male bands. How many times do I reject anything of Elvis Costello before you stop playing it? Same for many other artists. You really need to track that if someone has rejected every one of an artist, quit playing that artist. Or, better, provide as has been suggested elsewhere here, a button "reject artist." I've nothing against Costello, or Lightfoot, or the Doobies, or Bread, or many of the artists you put forth on my Nyro station. I just don't want anything besides lilting female vocalists on my Nyro station. (As well as much more Nyro.) Your learning algorithms are a joke, song by song is useless-- I have to come running back to the computer to keep rejecting stuff, even though I've been trying to "improve" the station for weeks.

Small fine tuning is required in the calculation
Hi Gurus,
BI PM module for the report Schedule attainment filtered for one order.
The result supposed to be Total job scheduled = 1, completed orders = 1 and No of orders completed on Schedule = 0. However, the report shows, Total job scheduled = 7, completed orders = 1 and No of orders completed on Schedule = 0.
By this what happens is that total jobs scheduled become 930 for Plant = 2200, Planner Group = P01, Order Type = PM03 while Completed orders and Completed orders on Schedule is correct.
ie Formulae in update routine IF( IS_INITIAL( /BIC/ZIBFDCH ), 1, 0 ).
Please tell the small fine tuning in the calculation, points will be assigned.

Configurable Code-list not Extendable in Fine-Tuning.
Hi
I am facing some problems while changing the values in Code-list while using fine tuning process in Configuration. I have created three code-lists and then being added to configuration using BAC.
In this BAC I have created one business Topic and three separate business options. Each business option is linked with each bcc (business Configuration Set).
Now when I go to and “Edit project scope” I am able to get the code list on my UI using extension fields and values are there too. But the problem I am facing is that in “Open Activity list” when I open the Business Options NOT all the options are opening properly.
Although I have got some of them opening fine and let me make changes while others are showing errors.
Any Advice Please.
Many thanks in Advance.
Regards
AsadYes i have regenerated now and still the same problem is there.
Yes the flag has been selected in the BC SET.
in Fine tuning there is slight difference in BOTH BC views.
One with normal behavior only shows the code in code list while the one with Issues/Problems is showing code & Description in same CODE column while some Times it does show only code though??
Any guess here?

Fine-Tuned Control: Purchase Order
Hello
When I make : SPRO -> Material Management-> Purchasing -> Message -> Output Control->Message Types->Define message type for purchase order->Fine-Tuned Control: Purchase Order
What means the U=>Update print-dependent data
Somebody could tell when I can use it, and tell me the impact of this.
Thanck you very much for your help.Hi,
If you select this indicator "Update print-dependent data" under Fine-Tuned Control option then in PO, if you click on "Print Preview" button then system will not show the pop-up screen (which contains all the print parameters, default printer, Logical destination, etc...). And system will consider the output type as default for print preview for which "Update print-dependent data" is marked. -
WLC 4402 username and password expires automatically
Hi,
We are facing issue with Cisco WLC 4402 (Cisco AireOS Version 4.2.205.0) and username and password expired automatically. It happens very often. We are not able to retreive the password, so everytime we need to reset(factory default) the Cisco WLC4402 and doing fresh installation.
Whether it is the hardware issue or software bug.
Also is there any possibility of recover the username and [password with resetting the cisco wlc4402.
Kindly suggest on this issue.
Regards
S.ManikandanHmmm.. Strange!! are we using any TACACS to manage?? or just the management username and password??
I guess after 5.2 WLC code or so we have the option of resetting the password without losing the config!!
