WLC 5508 Flex connect
Is there any separate licencse require for centralized WLC 5508 deployment?
agree with Stephan.
No need for addition license. just need to have number of AP license on WLC.

Cisco WLC 5508 max connections
Hi to all,
I've reading a bit about this and i'm a litle confused.
We have a 5508 Wlc with many 1140 aps. And i would like to know how many clients can handle each access point.
On this device there's a param under wireless-802.11a/n 802.11b/g/n - general - Clients (1 to 75), that i don't know if the quantity depends on this.
Is that right? 75 clients are the maximum clients permitted at the same time?.
Thans for your help and sorry for my english. That is a threshold setting and will not actually limit the amount of users to a given AP. The max users will vary.... in the past it was said that 15-25 or something like that was fine. Cisco has also mentioned 20-24, but these are for AP's not using 802.11N and only have a 10/100 fast ethernet port. I would still say 15-25, but it depends on your users bandwidth. I have seen 30+ and users have no complaints since they just use it for email and web. I also had an install where the limit was 3-4 devices per radio becuase they were uploading large video files.

Cisco ISE with Flex Connect ios 7.4
Hello my name is Ivan
I have a question:
Is possible to do a deployment with cisco ise (trust sec 2.0) and flex connect and web authentication to a cluster of cisco wlc (ios 7.4)?
There are a features or requeriments to configure this?
Regards
IvanBy "cluster of cisco wlc" are you referring to the HA features for the 5508? HA or not should be irrelevant to the configuration of ISE w/ 7.4 WLC on flex connect.
Configuring CWA (central web auth) via L2/Mac-Filter and RADIUS NAC will require that you have a FlexConnect group built with the desired AP within the group. You will need to build FlexConnect ACLs and apply them to the FlexConnect group that correspond with the various NAC states the client will be in during the CWA process.
You will probably need 1 or 2 Web Policy ACLs
1. allow traffic to/from dns and ISE PSN
2. allow traffic to/from dns, ise and other resources (for instance for posturing/remediation)
Please note that you cannot "dynamically" assign ACLs to FlexConnect APs/Groups as part of the transition from central webauth reqd to RUN. The WebPolicies ACLs are the only ones that can override (think of them like pre-auth acls). Once you finally send back the access-accept for the client you can not apply dynamic acls to the particular wlan/vlan.
For instance if you needed differentiated access on a single network between guest and vendors, you couldn't send an access-accept back with an ACL for vendors vs an ACL for guests - in a FlexConnect environment. They would have to be placed on separate networks with their respective access.
It's possible this type of configuration (much desired) will be allowed in 7.5 whenever it rears its head. -
WLC 5508 & Forefront Threat Management Gateway.
We are trying to implement a Guest wireless network on a new WLC 5508 which connects to the Internet via a Windows 2008R2 server running Forefront Threat Management Gateway beyond which there's a ASA and then the Internet. The Windows server also provides DHCP and DNS to the WLAN clients.
The problem we're having is that the TMG server will not return packets to a wireless client. We booth the wireless client, it picks up a DHCP address (from the TMG server), we open a browser and try and access the Internet, result; nothing. If we run Wireshark on the client we can see the DHCP request and response, we see the DNS request but no reply comes back. On the TMG server in the TMG live log we can see that it is dropping the packets to the client with the following error message:
A packet was dropped because its destination IP address is unreachable.
We've tried attaching a wired PC to the same VLAN and it can obtain an IP address from the TMG server, get DNS resolution from the TMG server and access the Internet so we know the problem must lie beteen the TMG server and the WLC 5508 but we can't determine whether it's something the WLC is doing which "masks" the client from the TMG server or something in the TMG server which is preventing it from communicating with the client.
If we open a browser on the client and enter http://1.1.1.1/login.html we get the login page and can authenticate (we have no DNS Host Name on the Virtual Interface, we've tried it with and without, no difference either way) but after that, nothing. We can see the client making repeated DNS requests and the return packets for each one are dropped by the TMG server with the message above.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

We already have WCL 5508 setup with several SSIDs. We plan to create a new one and assign to new VLAN. However:
1. About 240 devices, laptops, IPods, etc will be connecting to that single SSID - is there any way to resolve that? I don't want to create multiple vlans and ssids for 30 devices.
2. I would like to create ACCT and Service SSID and have them access different vlans: for example
ACCT should have access to printer, server, Internet access
Service only Internet and server access. Can I use ACL in WLC 5508? WLC 5508 is connected 8x to 3750 > 4900 > ASA 5510. There are only 2 and total would be 5 ACC list on it. Is this will be better idea to put ACC list on 3750 or 4900 or even ASA?
I am new to WLC controller and trying to figure it out asap. Thank You.
-JohnHi John,
1. 240 devices per SSID is not a huge number. If you are concern about number of IP addresses available in a single vlan, you can always use interface group(or vlan select feature) to map multiple vlan to the same SSID. Refer below for better understanding of that feature
http://mrncciew.com/2013/01/27/understanding-vlan-select-feature/
AP-Group is another option, but above is much easier from administration point of view.
2. Yes, 4900 seems like best place to control inter-vlan traffic as that is the place where you define L3 interface (or gateway) of each of these user vlan

WLC 5508 Discovery in Prime Infrastructure
I have newly deployed a Prime Infrastructure (PI) in my network, and i want to add my wirless controller in it.
I get an error SNMP time out whenever i add my controller to PI through SNMP.
There are default SNMP configurations in the controller and i am simply adding them in PI with their private/public SNMP string.
Is there something i am missing?
WLC 5508 is connected to my core switch and PI is connected to another switch which is directly connected to core switch via Layer 3.
Is there any configuration required to be done on the switch side.?Hello,
Please go through the below link, it may help you to add WLC in Prime Infrastructure (PI)

Need Information of cisco WLC 5508 LAG Interface
HI
We have cisco WLC 5508 in our network and right now ,this WLC is connected to two ports of each core switches. Both CORP and GUEST SSID are configured on this WLC.
Now we want to segregate the trafffic og GUEST to on core switches from WLC. SO my question is ,how can we achieve this without using guest anchor controller ?
Can i use one interfcae cisco WLC 5508 and connect it to the firewall or any device ?
Thanks
PuneetHi
Thanks ...I am using WLC as a DHCP server for Guest.
So i want to know ,is there any requirement that GUEST subnet should be pingable from WLC management IP address.
my topology is here...
Corp network and management network are reachable however management metwork is not pinagble from guest netowrk. -
Wlc 5508: windows 8 can't connect using wpa+wpa2
Dear All,
I need your help.
My customer have Cisco WLC 5508 (cisco wlc 7.0.116.0) .
We create ssid with layer 2 security wpa+wpa2.
Using Windows 8, it's can't connect to the wireless lan.
But if I change, the ssid, with layer 2 security wep.
It can connect / connected.
Please help.
Thanks,
JerriThis is a known issue with Windows 8. You need to upgrade your firmware to 7.0.250.X for wireless clients running Win8.
Another thing, choose one: Either WPA or WPA2. Don't enable one and "hope" the wireless client will make the choice because most of the time, they won't. -
WLC 5508 - Failed to connect from LMS 3.2
Hello.
I am trying to include a WLC 5508 in our LMS 3.2.
I have defined the device and credentials, but the LMS server cannot get access to it.
If I try to check de device credentials from the Device Center I get a "failed to connect", but if I a try a telnet session, also from Device Center, I get a connection.
I checked the credentails are OK.

WLC 5508 disable wlan client still connected
I have one wlc 5508 running on latest IOS 7.116, there is one wlan abc which i have disable status and disable broadcast, but randomly still i can see from wlc dashboard there is one client connected to this wlan abc. The moment i check on the client details, there is no client connected to that wlan and when return to dashboard, no more client connected to that wlan abc. This happened in randomly, it is bug or something else?
I would guess that the client entry also indicates "probing" as status. It means that the client is not connected. It is actually probing, so it"s looking for that SSID that it probably associated to in the past (so it remembers about it)

WLC 5508 intermittent loss of connectivity
Hi.
I have a WLC 5508 connecting directly to a distribution switch (3850) via a layer 2 etherchannel trunk fibre link with LAG enabled on the WLC.
Whenever there is a loss of power to the server room where both devices are hosted & power later gets restored, the distribution switch & WLC lose Layer 2 & 3 connectivity. Connectivity only gets restored when the WLC is power cycled or the fibre cables connecting to its SFP ports are removed & plugged back in. When this is done connectivity is restored between them, APs associate etc. Once there is a loss of power to the room for whatsoever reason again, the loss of connectivity issue re-occurs.
Disabled the etherchannel at some point, using only a single fibre trunk link between them, but the issue persists.
Also check for interface errors, CRCs, etc on both ends but there are none.
Can anyone please advice me on what the issue is & what can be done to permanently resolve this?
Thanks in anticipation.
Ope.Software version is 7.4.100.0
int gig1/0/5
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
channel-group 1 mode on
int gig1/0/6
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

Port setting on the switch is set to auto-negotiate. Port setting on the controller is "auto". The link has been negotiated (& always negotiates) to 1000Mbps full duplex on both ends.
Presently in transit with no way of connecting to the device, but I checked the duplex & speed settings on both devices which was appropriately negotiated. Also checked for interface error counters on the switch, there was none. Checked the WLC logs too, there were no logs on issues with the interfaces or auto-negotiation. -

Cisco ISE 1.2 & Cisco WLC 5508 v7.6
Hi all,
we are planning to upgrade our WLC to 7.6 to fix a bug with FlexConnect Client ACLs but I have just seen on the Cisco ISE Compatibility table that the it only recommends up to v7.5 of the WLC 5508...
Cisco have told me to steer clear of 7.5 as it is in a defferred status, so does anyone know, or have running in a lab or production, ISE1.2 with a 5508 WLC v7.6 NAD ?
I would much rather know of any issues people are experiencing before hand than to have to go through a software upgrade and then rollback.
Thanks all
Mario De RosaHi Neno,
right I have this almost working now.
I have simplified the setup. I am not going to do any client provisioning at the moment.
So I can connect to the corporate SSID using EAP-TLS and I can successfully push the branch data VLAN upon successful authorisation.
Now I am trying to introduce the posture element & per user ACLs.
I have defined the redirect ACL & Flex ACL on the vWLC however the NAC agent will not pop-up. The client is in the right VLAN and the redirect ACL seems to be getting applied as the client does get an IP through DHCP. However, the client cannot ping the ISE or access the guest portal when I open the browser.
DNS resolution seems to be working fine.
VLAN220 is my datacentre VLAN which the Management Interface on the controller is plugged in to.
VLAN10 is the branch DATA VLAN.

Cisco Flex Connect and users can not get IP Address by WAN
Hello my name is Ivan
I have a wlc 5508 with license base to 50 aps, i use a deployment flex connect. I already registered all my access points, I use web authentication to authenticate users guest, and the service dhcp is in the central site.
My issue is the users in each remote site, can not get an ip address by dhcp from the central site, they can authenticate in the guest ssid, but any users can not get an ip.
The request is passing by the wan in this way
Central Site DHCP - Router WAN - Remote Site - Users with notebooks. I use flex connect central deployment (all the traffic consulting to the wlc) .
perhaps i should use local deploy? The wlc is in the central site.
Can you help me to resolving this issue please? , perhaps any advice?
Regards
Ivan.Thanks Osita
If I configure Central Authentication and I configure central switching I need to create a dynamic interafce for each remote site and each dynamic interface associated with a different VLAN ID, because I can not associate a single interface dynamic to the same VLAN ID, but in my case the client remote in each remote site have the same network segment with the same VLAN ID with the same SSID for guests. My goal is to configure web authentication with the local DHCP server at each remote site, will this work?.Each remote site have its own server dhcp.
If I configure authentication central authentication with central switching with web authenticacion as I set in my scenario?
My issues are the interfaces dynamics, because I have the same network to the customer guest with the same ID VLan in each remote site

Anchor mobility configuration getting lost in wlc 5508 ios code 7.4.100.0
It is observed that in WLC 5508 , ios 7.4.100.0 , mobility anchor configuration on wlan is getting lost . we configure anchor ip address on guest wlan > mobility anchor > Switch IP Address (Anchor).
We have configured the template on NCS 2.0 to push the anchor mobility ip address on all WLC
Has anyone oberved this behavoiur. We have more than 100 WLC , and everyweek mobility anchor configuration is lost on some WLC having code 7.4.100.0.I am having this exact same problem. I am running 7.3 on 5508 WLC. My remote site LAP's are using Flex (HREAP). The initial access point that my laptop associates to connects with no problem, as soon as I wander out of range of the initial LAP and into the area of another access point, I lose data connectivity. The was validated like the original post as I start a constant ping on the LAN and watch as the ping latency increases and then ping replies stop. The only way to correct the problem is resetting of the wireless adapter on the laptop. Side note my DroidX has no problem wandering from AP to AP.
Laptop: Windows 7 32bit
I then returned to my home site and test where I have a secondary controller and the LAP's are configured for local mode, no problems roaming from access point to access point. Validated with constant ping test. The pings drop for a second and re-
continues as the laptop reconnects.
**Edit: I am going to try the removing the DHCP Addr. Assignment required option, and report that back to the TAC engineer.

The problem is in deed solved by turning the "DHCP Address Required" but why?
