WLC 5508 - WLAN, changing the SSID ?

It doesnt seem I am able to change the SSID of an active or disabled wlan via the web interface ?
Any ideas ?
Cheers
dave

no you cannot change it, you need to delete the whole SSID and set it up again.

  • WLC 5508 WLAN Changes

    Hello all,
I have a pair of 5508s running in HA with a number of WLANs active.  Whenever I make a change to a single WLAN, it seemingly causes ALL the WLANs to reset, resulting in a downtime of roughly 10-15 seconds.  I first noticed this when I was managing the WLC on my office wireless network, which is also controlled by the WLC.  Once I made a small change in another WLAN, I briefly lost internet connectivity.  Has anyone else run into this same problem?  Is this intended as designed, or is there a way to get around it?  The WLC is running 7.3.101.0 and all of the WLANs are on FlexConnect, and they do not all share the same interface.
    Thanks,
    Wilson

I don't think it is by design at all. Without HA, a change in the WLAN only affects that WLAN. Now I'm guessing you also understand that there are issues with HA and you are on the first version of code that supports HA. Now I'm not saying that upgrading will fix it, but it would be a bit more stable but not 100%. I would wait until the v7.4 MR1 comes out which might be this month or maybe a few... I don't know. Or I would look at maybe the latest v7.3 code to upgrade to.

  • Lose Internet connection when I change the SSID

    Hi everyone!
well, i bought a WRT160N router, and i have a problem that is annoying me.
I connected the Router to the modem, and all the wired connected PCs were working perfectly.
But then, i went to the setup page to configure the Wireless settings, and as soon I changed the SSID name, the connection internet connection dropped!
The only way i had to fix this was by making a Hard Reset.
after that, I also tryed changing values and settings from all the configuration tabs, and the wired connection was working properly, but as soon i changed any value from the Wireless tab, the internet connection dropped (even, in the diagnostics section, i could not do a ping to google. It says unknown host).
Here you have an image of this:
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/41/sinttuloesw.png/
I thought that this was a hardware related problem, and i returned the router for another wrt160n, and the problem persisted.
Also, i have the latest firmware
    Any idea?

I thought that a wireless client connects to the named SSID that you designate.  If you change the SSID while clients are connected, that would be like the network disappearing as far as the clients are concerned.  So you would have to reconnect the clients that were connected to that SSID network.  Other wireless network parameters that you change would also cause disconnects, like changing the security, changing the passphrase, etc., you would have to reconnect clients with the new parameters that were connected at the time you made the changes.

  • I want to change the SSID of my printer

    HP Officejet 6600
    Win XP
I have been using this printer wirelessly for some time with no issue. I have recently expanded the wireless printing capabilities so we can print from our iPads and iPhones. We have two wifi spots; one for the printer called HP-Print-CC-OFFICEJET 6600 and the one for the house called NX-01. The issue is when I leave the house and come back, they (our iDevices) default to the printers network, the 'HP' one. I think it does it because it goes alphabetically. Since H comes before N, it always goes to it. The next thing I know is all of our devices are running off of cellular. This is not good, as we forget this happens and it goes unattended for some time.
So, what I want to do is change the SSID of the printer to something that starts after N alphabetically. The thing is, I can't find anywhere to do it! Well, I can, but when I follow it's directions it tells me to hook up the printer to the USB to establish a wireless connection. Hello, I've already done that!
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Digital_Goonie,
That's a default thing. If you can't change it in the EWS, it can't be changed.
    Good luck!

  • WLC 5508 WLAN SSID Problem

    Hi,
I recently got a 5508 controller. I use 1 SSID for the employees on the main site (using certificate authentication). On the Remote sites I want to use the same SSID with different DHCP Servers (AP are configuring with HREAP mode). So I tried to configure different WLAN ID using the same SSID (I override DHCP Server IP Address). When I try to activate SSID, I got the following error : "WLAN with duplicate SSID's and L2 security policy found". I tryed to use "AP Group" and put the different WLAN ID in different AP Group but it dosen't work.
    Anyone as an idea?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Eric

    Hi,
This is the expected behaviour!! and there is no way to overcome issue as the error thats popping up is self explanatory!! if you are using Internal WEB AUTH page then the HREAP local switching supports the internal WEB AUTH, and another thing is.. a single WLAN will do the Job!! You just need to configure Local switching on the WLAN so that, the clients in the central site use ( AP in local mode will use central side DHCP) and the AP in the HREAP will use the mapped VLAN to grab the IP!!
here is the link to do the same!!

  • WLC 5508 - WLANs disabled after reboot

    Hi,
    I'm running 3 WLC 5508, 2 of them running image AIR-CT5500-K9-7-0-116-0.aes, one AIR-CT5500-LDPE-K9-7-0-116-0.aes.
On the 5508 running the LDPE-image, I have 9 WLANs (170,171,180,181,190,191,281,282,283), all defined with admin status "ENABLED".
    WLANs 180,181,281 belong to a defined AP-group, WLAN 190,191,282 belong to a different AP-group.
WLANs 180,181,190,191 are defined as H-REAP. The H-REAP APs registers without any problems at the backup WLC and switches back successfully to the primary controller after recovering from reboot.
Unfortunately the WLANs 180,181,190,191 show status "DISABLED" every time the primary controller comes back and I have to enable them manually.
Doing exactly the same procedure with one of the other WLC, running AIR-CT5500-K9-7-0-116-0, I never face this problem.
Has anyone faced something similar ? Any hints or tipps are very much appreciated

I would like to pick up the discussion again. I had to upgrade the 2 WLC's involved in the scenarion and the WLANs are staying enabled. The APs are registering in a perfect time at the secondary 5508 and so do the clients.
After the primary 5508 comes back the LWAPPs are registering back to that WLC seemless and so do the clients but sometimes (not always) not without loosing the connections for about 15 secs, which is unacceptable since the applications will drop.
We also get the following error-msg:
*Sep 12 13:39:05.598: %AAA-3-BADSERVERTYPEERROR: Cannot process authentication server type radius (UNKNOWN)
    *Sep 12 13:39:05.598: %DOT11-7-AUTH_FAILED: Station 0026.c730.88ae Authentication failed
Hass anyone faced something similar ?

  • WLC 5508 - What is the use of service port.

    Hi,
I am getting hard to understand use of service port in wlc 5508,
Even after reading so much post and cisco note I am not understanig the use of (Even basic use) service port.
As I understand service port should be access port and should be in diffrent vlan.
Pleae help me to understand it in simple way....

    Hi Tarun,
Like others mentioned it is used for Out of Band Management of a WLC. Many do not use this as it could leads to issues unless you properly configure it & put it onto two completely different supernets. Config guides highlighted those restrictions & below is one of them listed in 7.4 config guide
Do not configure wired clients in the same VLAN or subnet of the service port of the controller on the network. If you configure wired clients on the same subnet or VLAN as the service port, it is not possible to access the management interface of the controller.
In situations you can use it to get access by directly connecting a laptop to take configuration backup or restore configuration to a controller. In the below post I have used service port to take backup & restore the configuration to a WLC.

  • WLC 5508 cannot change SSID

    Hello,
I have an issue where I cannot get clients to change SSID.  I have two SSID, one WPA2 secure, one open guest.  The secure is locally switched via Flexconnect and the guest is centrally switched.  Both of them work.  I have been able to test this and both work as intended.  The problem is that once you connect to one of them, either secure or guest, you cannot then change to the other.  The only way to change is to delete the dhcp entry from the scope and then do it.
Fast SSID change is enabled.  I also have debug client output from when the client fails when you try to switch which I will include below.  I also pulled some wireshark captures and those show me that the DHCP ack packets are trying to give the client the ip address from the incorrect/previous scope.  So basically it's like FAST SSID change is not working and the client is never being disassociated properly??
I am totally stumped and even though the client will most likely not be switched between SSID that often I would still like to know the solution.

External windows 2008 dhcp server.  The ip-helper on the L3 interface is working because it will pull dhcp just fine as long as it is the first SSID you connect with.  Once you have the an address from dhcp and try to change it keeps wanting to give me that same address even though my L3 interfaces for the two SSIDs are on two separate vlans each with a separate scope (vlan 31 and vlan 50).  Although each vlan uses the same dhcp server but that does not matter since I have two different scopes setup.  One for each subnet.

  • Cisco WLC 5508 WLAN Controller

is ist poosible the to create more than one LAG portgroup or binds the controller all 8 ports automatically in the same group? My idea is to cerate a 3 groups for 3 costumers with  2GB uplinks to the bachground network.
When it comes to WLC, it's either you turn on LAG or you don't.  You can only have one LAG.
Here's what we've done in our deployment:
We have a single outbound interface, let's call it INTERNET.  We have multiple sites.  So we create multiple dynamic interface with specific DHCP server.
We have created a PERL script and it's attached to our LINUX RADIUS box which specifies that all traffic goes out the INTERNET dynamic interface, however, each client gets an IP address based on the site where they come from.

  • Cisco WLC 5508 - WLAN Per-User Bandwidth Contracts

    Hi,
I setup per-user bandwidth contracts on my guest anchor controller. The controller model is 5508 and firmware is 7.4.121.0.  No Qos settings were configured on the foreign controllers.
The bandwidth limits for the WLAN worked correctly for a couple of weeks, then speed reduced to almost nothing. I removed the WLAN bandwidth limits and speed was back to normal again.
Has anyone else run into this issue? Any ideas why it might have happened?
    Thanks,

If Scott does not mind an add-on.  The 3850 also supports per client QOS.

  • How do I change the SSID on my HP C4599?

I changed my wifi and now my HP Photosmart C4599 cannot communicate with the router because according to the Wireless Network Test Report, the network name (SSID) was not found.  All I want to do is somehow get to the network settings on my printer but there doesn't seem to be a way through the panel on the printer.
I am on a MacBook Pro OS 10.8.5.
Please help.  I've been working on this for hours, even tried calling HP support but they said they could not help me because printer is obsolete.

    Download the manual here.

Follow the instructions on setting up your network.  Be aware you will need a USB cable to set up your wireless.

  • Change the WiFi SSID on Personal Hotspot

Is is possible to change the SSID of the WiFI personal Hotspot to be something other than my phones name? I don't especially like broadcasting my name around for random people to see. I know i can change the phone name, but I'd rather not change that, and just have an independent SSID name

    Hi there,
It is a bit rediculous that Phone's name is actually a name of the SSID   I have the same SSID at home, at work and for all of my mobile devices. The passwords are the same so all my friends can use them without adding a one more entry into the list of hotspots. Do I need to change my SSID for all devices to ****'s iPhone or should I take stupid phone's name instead? It is a rhetorical question.
For me it is just a marketing so everyone see "***'s iPhone" SSID when is searching for the Wi-Fi hotspot. Many of customers even not recognized that their names ***** have been silvently turned into "****'s iPhone"
Hope that Apple will resolve this later in the next FW releases.

  • Wlc 5508: windows 8 can't connect using wpa+wpa2

    Dear All,
    I need your help.
My customer have Cisco WLC 5508 (cisco wlc 7.0.116.0) .
We create ssid with layer 2 security wpa+wpa2.
Using Windows 8, it's can't connect to the wireless lan.
But if I change, the ssid, with layer 2 security wep.
    It can connect / connected.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Jerri

This is a known issue with Windows 8.  You need to upgrade your firmware to 7.0.250.X for wireless clients running Win8.
Another thing, choose one:  Either WPA or WPA2.  Don't enable one and "hope" the wireless client will make the choice because most of the time, they won't.

  • WLC 5508 and Client IP addresses

we have installed our first 5508 in a small remote office.  I setup a DHCP range on the 5508 to give the AP's a IP address.  After that I changed the AP's to have static IP address.  I wish for the wireless clients to use our DHCP servers here at the home office, so I shut down the DHCP service on the 5508.  Now the Clients will not get an IP address.  So now I re-enable the scope and the clients get an IP address.  How do I configure the 5508 so that the wireless clients will get an IP address from our DHCP servers and not the 5508?

Go to WLAN > click the SSID of your choice > Advanced tab > click on "DHCP Server" and enter the DHCP Server.
