WLC and WCS conflict

Hi I am currently using 21 X WLC with N+1 Redundancy and 1X WCS with 1000++ of LAP1020. If had been observed that the antenna type and power TX had been changed with no reason. Is there any settings that may affect with AP customized Tx Power and antenna settings other than using the WCS template to push the configure to the APs instead of the WLC.

Sorry for jumping in on the question with another question but it seemed the right place.
I have an AIR-CT5508-25-K9 WLC and +25AP license : L-LIC-CT5508-25A.
As far as I understand it the WLC should already have a 25AP license installed and with the adder license I should have a count of 50 APs.
However, after installing the adder license the count is still 25.
Could you please let me know if it's just something wrong in my reasoning or should a case be opened?
Thank you,
Barbara

How many APs does wireless controller 5508 and WCS (version 7.0) supports?

  • Optimize update inforamtion between WLC and WCS

    Hi,
    I have a WCS in 4.1.83 and 3 WLC 4404-2 12AP in 4.1.171.0 (ans ER).
I'm think that the update of information between WLC to WCS are too slow. The update is about inforamtion, like client associated, ....
Do you know if it's possible to change the update pooling of the WCS ?
    Thx

    Under WCS, Administration, Background Tasks,
you can change the data collection settings

  • Vlan management with WLC and WCS

I'd like to know if it is possible to use the same vlan for the management of the WCS and for configuring a wlan?
I try to make this lab and when I declare a dynamic interface that is in the same subnet as the WCS ip address, the reliability between controler and WCS is lost.

I know that I should not put servers on the same vlan as wireless client but I just want to know if it is possible or if Cisco implemented something to avoid this to understand why my lab didn't work with this configuration.
    Thanks

  • 802.11 n support in Wism and WCS

Is the new wless standard 802.11n is supported in current shipments of Cisco WLC 44XX and WiSM ( 6500 wireless controller card) ?
Also I need to know whether is is supported in WCS 4.1 ?

    Hi Nalaka,
    Yes, 802.11n is supported on the WISM and WCS starting with the following releases in the 4.2 train;
Release Notes for Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers and Lightweight Access Points for Release 4.2.61.0
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn4200.html#wp302677
The following new features are available in WCS 4.2.62.0
802.11n support-The introduction of the Cisco Aironet 1250 series access point, a business-class access point based on the IEEE 802.11n draft 2.0 standard. The access point offers combined data rates of up to 600 Mbps to meet bandwidth requirements. Cisco WCS display screens include a listing for configuring, managing, and monitoring 802.11n access points and their associated wireless LAN controllers.
The newest WLC and WCS 5.0 trains are now released as well :)
    Hope this helps!

  • WLC, WCS and WCS Navigator

I would like to know what is the difference between the Wireless Lan Controller and the Wireless Controller System.
Need I WLC if I want deploy WCS.
Can I use WCS without Wireless LAN Controllers?.
What is the diference between WCS and WCS Navigator?

You don't need a WCS server however you will require WLC's to control your Wireless WAP's. The WCS allows you to add multiple WLC's into one view along with floor plans and floor layouts and alerts. Without a WCS server you would have to manually login to each WLC controller to see what the WAP's are doing. It really depends on how big your site is and how many WAP's you have to deploy after a site survey is done.

  • Error when adding a WLC to WCS

When adding a WLC to WCS I get this error: Failed to add device to WCS Reason:
COMMON-1: Some unexpected internal error has occured. If the problem persists please report to the Tech Support.
WCS 7.0.164.0 was upgraded from 5.2.110.0 because the WLC were running 7.0.98.0
    WLC4404-100 7.0.98.0 (Already in WCS)
WLC4402-12 7.0.98.0 (Changed the ip address of the management and ap manager.  Was in WCS but deleted from WCS prior to the ip address change and prior to the WCS being upgraded)
I know that the snmp strings are fine and that the WLC's both respond to snmp get commands.
The intial WCS upgrade from 5.2.110.0 to 7.0.164.0 didn't require the previous version to be uninstalled.  After the upgrade and restoring the WCS from backup. I was getting the error posted above.  We uninstalled WCS and re-installed WCS from scratch and still we are getting the same error.  We tried restarting the WCS services and also the VM box as well and not luck.  I was wondering if the WCS has the old ip and mac address of the WLC4402-12 in the database and that is why i'm getting this error.
I did delete and try different snmp community strings with no luck with WCS.  Again, snmp is working since I can do snmp get from the WLC's.

    Scott,
    This is the issue:
com.cisco.common.persistence.transaction.TransactionException: Null value was assigned to a property of primitive type setter of com.cisco.server.managedobjects.aaa.GuestUserTemplateCG.userStatus
Could be an existing bug or a new one. I cant say unless I look into your setup.

  • How to sync AP names from WLC to WCS

when AP names are updated on a WLC, how to propagate the changes to the WCS? WCS still shows the AP names as MAC addresses instead of user-friendly names that were set on the WLC.

In 4.2.61 you go under the controller tab on the WCS and select the controllers that you would like to update. Select the drop down for 'Refresh config from controller' Select then select the delete tab on the following screen. This will take all the information from the WLC and move it to the WCS and delete any outdated information on the WCS. Hope this helps.

  • 1230 Series LAP and WCS 6.0.199.0 Heatmap Problem

I recently upgraded from WLC 4.2.207.0 to 6.0.199.0 (WiSM), and WCS 5.2.130.0 to 6.0.196.0. All my heatmaps that contain 1231G LAPs are solid "maroon" (-35 dBm) in color. If I remove the 1231 APs from the heatmap selection on the right hand side, my coexisting 1131 and 1142's display their heatmaps properly. My maps are all CAD format (dwg) converted to .png's using WCS. My goal is to migrate to 802.11n in small steps which our Cisco rep said we could do. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, this is a bug in 6.0.199.0.  The "fix" is to upgrade to 7.0.98.0 or 6.0.199.4.  As you figured out, it only affects 1230 series APs, and only on the 802.11b/g side.  Bug ID was
    CSCti05687
Incorrect power unit was used on AIR-AP1231G-A-K9 and IR-AP1220-IOS-UPGRD.

  • How to create guest access in wireless by WISM and WCS and ACS?

    dear sir
i neeed to know the steps of how we can make guest access to our network like hotels by using our WISM v 7.0.220 and wireless control system and ACS ?

You need to define your requirements a little bit. The WLC can do WebAuth and an employee can access either the WLC or WCS to put in the username and password credentials, but you would need to figure out what's best for you.
Here is a support doc that you can reference.

  • WLC and LWAP Registration Log Question

We have a Cisco 4404 WLC and and about 70 Cisco 1131 APs.  I am very new to the Cisco WLC and I need to know how to view its AP registration and unregistration logs.  We have a AP that has unregistered and we can't seem to find what switchport it was attached to.  It would be helpful to know the IP address and ideally any CDP information it had.  Unfortunately you can only view this information in the WLC if the AP is registered, but at this point it is not.  Any help would be appreciated.

You will not be able to find that info unless you still see the information on the log about the AP. You would have to either review the switch cdp info as long as the AP is still functioning or else you will just need to physically track it down. If you have WCS or NCS, you should be able to review the past history and the maps would show you where that AP was located if the ap were positioned correctly.
    Thanks,

  • Use WLC's service interface IP when add WLC into WCS

    Hi All,
Does anybody know if there's any limitations or bugs to use WLC's service interface IP when add WLC into WCS?
Another question is I remember there's a post previously says that there are a bug regarding to ARP if the WLC not using LAG but connect one port to one switch, connect another port to another switch, so that's why it is strongly suggested to use LAG, but I can't find it now, anybody know it? Thanks!

The service port is controlled by the service-port interface and is reserved for out-of-band management of the controller and system recovery and maintenance in the event of a network failure. It is also the only port that is active when the controller is in boot mode. The service port is not capable of carrying 802.1Q tags, so it must be connected to an access port on the neighbor switch.
If the service port is in use, the management interface must be on a different supernet from the service-port interface.
The service-port interface controls communications through and is statically mapped by the system to the service port. It must have an IP address on a different supernet from the management, AP-manager, and any dynamic interfaces, and it cannot be mapped to a backup port. This configuration enables you to manage the controller directly or through a dedicated operating system network, such as 10.1.2.x, which can ensure service access during network downtime.
The service port can obtain an IP address using DHCP, or it can be assigned a static IP address, but a default gateway cannot be assigned to the service-port interface. Static routes can be defined through the controller for remote network access to the service port.

  • MSE 3350 and WCS

    Hi All,
I have the following getserver info from the MSE 3350,
The WCS ver. 7.0.172.0, the initial install documentation shows that the following ports needs to be opened on MSE to have successfull communications between WCS and MSE.
Can someone clarify this situation for me,.
    1. From the MSE getserverinfo. the follwoing seems to be in "false" state.
    HTTP : false
    legacy HTTPS:false
but the communication between the MSE and WCS SOAP/XML needs HTTP/HTTPS opended.
Can I make any changes on the MSE through CLI to fix this issue. Unless this is not an issue.
    2. I issued a netstat -tulpn command and I am not able to see certain ports not listening
Please see the attached text file.
    Example :
    TCP 443 for HTTPs
    SNMP 161, 162
    TCP 80
    TCP 21 for FTP
TCP 16113 for MSE to WLC ( NSMP Protocol exchanges)
I am unable to see those.
    Thanks
Let me know if this will cause an issue while i deploy the MSE into live production.

When you go throuh the script to install the MSE, it should ask you about using HTTP/HTTPS.
you can rerun the script from /opt/bin/setup.sh (please check my pathing on this)

  • WLC and Intermec 2455 terminals

I have 2 WLC 4400 controllers running 4.2.61.0 and a WCS server running 4.2.62.11. I have 60 AP's in a 480,000 sq ft warehouse/manufacturing environment. The AP 1242 support both voice ( on the 802.11a radion) and the Intermec 2455 mobile computer on the 802.11b side. The Intermec devices are having a huge problem staying connected as they drive through the warehouse. The AP's are every 80 ft. Does anyone know any special cofig parameters either on the intermec devices or the WLC controllers I need to make. All AP have been placed on maps and WCS is taking care of power and channel setting.
On the b/g side of the radios I am using 1728 antennas and on the a side I am using 5160 antennas

  • ISE 1.2 With WLC and AD

    Hi everyone,
What is the steps and Procedure implement Wired and wireless authentication with ISE, WLC and AD for a LAB environment. currently the following are done.
The wireless network is configured with 2 SSID (Staff and Guest)
Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and  NTP configured & synced.
ISE and AD running on C220 VMs, and WLC is 5760 Appliance.
Please provide your thoughts and assistance.
