WLC, Bonjour, Airprint in diffrent SSID

Hi,
I have two wlc 5508 version 7.5.102.0. one foreign and one anchor.
the APs are connectet to the foreign wlc.foreign wlc has a tunnel to anchor wlc. On Anchor, I creat the SSIDs and there are breakout to internet.
I use an apple iPad and HP MFP 276 AirPrint printers.
My SSIDs are "Branch 1" 192.168.1.0/24 and "Branch 2" 192.168.2.0/24
every branch has one AP 2602 one HP AirPrint printer and one iPad connectet.
so far, everything works fine, bonjour for airprint works.
But my problem is if I will print something from iPad "Branch 1" I can see both printer, from Branch 1 and 2.
How can I block that Bonjour Broadcast all available printers in both SSIDs ?
my goal is that iPad "Branch 1" should only see printer "Branch 1" and  iPad "Branch 2" should only see printer "Branch 2"
and not all Printers they are connectet to my wlc.
Have anyone an idea what I can configure on my wlcs to change this ?
thank you guys

I'm not sure if an ACL is my solution.
I think I have a layer 2 problem.
I create for every branch a seperate mDNS Profile and activate this profile on interface, interface gr. and  wlan ssid.
if I would print something from my iPad and I select the printer I have both printers to chose, branch 1 and branch 2,
but if I'm in branch 1 and I chose branch 2 printer, I receive the error "printer offline". for sure.
How can I prevent the visibility from printer branch 2 in branch 1 ??
I would only see printer 1 at branch 1 on my iPad printing selection.

  • 3850 WLC - 5760 Anchor: Multiple Guest SSIDs issue

    Hi,
I have configured a 3850 Foreign WLC and a 5760 as anchor WLC in a DMZ behind an ASA FW. The Anchor Controller is configured to advertise 3 GUEST Wireless:
(INSIDE) ---- ASA FW (guest in interface) -------------------------- (Te1/0/1) 5760 ANCHOR (Te1/0/2) -------------------- L3 Link-------------------- (guest out interface) ASA FW ---- (OUTSIDE)
    GUEST1: 10.9.65.0/24 – VLAN 11
    GUEST2: 10.9.66.0/24 – VLAN 12
    GUEST3: 10.9.67.0/24 – VLAN 13
Management VLAN 1: 10.8.252.1 (Anchor Management VLAN – Mobility)
The link between the WLC and the Guest OUT Interface on the ASA Firewall is a L3 Link, NOT a Trunk.
The 5760 WLC is also a DHCP server for the three client VLANs above. I have also configured 3 SVIs as default gateways for these VLANs:
    Interface vlan 11 – 10.9.65.1
    Interface vlan 12 – 10.9.66.1
    Interface vlan 13 – 10.9.67.1

If a client connects to GUEST1 SSID it gets an IP address in VLAN 11 and its default gateway is 10.9.65.1.
If a client connects to GUEST2 SSID it gets an IP address in VLAN 12 and its default gateway is 10.9.66.1.
If a client connects to GUEST3 SSID it gets an IP address in VLAN 13 and its default gateway is 10.9.67.1.
Mobility is UP and I can see clients connected to the Anchor WLC either in IPLEARN or WEBAUTH_PEND state. DHCP is working fine, clients get an IP and the right default gateway and DNS servers when connect, for example, to GUEST1.

However, they are not able to ping the default gateway – SVI VLAN 11: 10.9.65.1, so I can not see any traffic leaving the Anchor WLC to continue with the Web Authentication Process (cwa) using ISE. I can see that the authorization policy (“unkown” and the URL to ISE) has been pushed to the clients but I am not redirected to ISE Web Authentication Portal when I open my web browser. I have done some captures on the FW interfaces but I cannot see any traffic coming from the clients.
I know that usually there is a Trunk (that allows client VLANs) between a WLC and L3 Switch when you configure multiples SSIDs and then configure the SVIs on the L3 Switch. However, I think this design with a L3 Link should work too because 5760 is a WLC+L3Switch.
My question is: Why clients are not able to ping their default gateway?
    I hope it makes sense.
I appreciate any thoughts and help. Thanks in advance.
    Joana.

    Hi,
I couldn't get it working (I doubt if it is really possible). I had to add a switch between the 5760 Anchor Controller and the ASA Firewall:
(INSIDE) ---- ASA FW (guest in interface) -------------------------- (Te1/0/1) 5760 ANCHOR (Te1/0/2) -------------------- SWITCH-------------------- (guest out interface) ASA FW ---- (OUTSIDE)
The link between the 5760 and the Switch is configured as a Trunk and it allows the 3 Guest SSIDs (VLANs). The link between the Switch and the ASA FW is configured as a Layer 3 link. I also set up the default gateways for the 3 GUEST VLANs in the Switch (3 vlan interfaces) and the 5760 as DHCP Server.
    I hope it helps.
    Joana.

  • WLC Bonjour Gateway - Ichat

    Hi,
I have an issue with bonjour in my network, I cant get the ichat work when the mdns feature is enable.
We have 2 WLC 5508 and 2504, both of them are in version 8.0.
I put the string _presence._tcp.local. in the local mdns base but the ichat still doesn't work.
Someone had this issue to? And know how to fix it?
PD. I already have a SR in the TAC, but I don't a light from they.

What is the WLC model & software version used in this case ?

  • WLC 5508 - WLAN, changing the SSID ?

It doesnt seem I am able to change the SSID of an active or disabled wlan via the web interface ?
    Any ideas ?
    Cheers
    dave

no you cannot change it, you need to delete the whole SSID and set it up again.

  • Mapping Multiple VLANs to Multiple SSIDs as one-one in WLC 5508 via H-REAP?

    Hi All,
Can anyone please show me how to map a SSID/WLAN ID to a local vlan of a LAP in WLC 5508 using H-REAP local switched? The reason of doing this is to separate Data subnet/traffic from Voice as currently all 7925 handsets using same SSID as PCs. I would like to create two VLANs on APs and map them to two SSIDs. I could not see any option in WLC5508 to do this. Also when I change the AP mode from H-REAP to local and configuring sub interface using dot1q on the interface Gi0 then unable write running-config to startup-config because I get NVRAM Verification Failed as WLC protects any local changes on any registered LAP at NVRAM.
    Your help is much appreciated.

    Mehdi:
I am talking about HREAP groups, not AP groups.
You can not achieve what you want if you are using the same SSID on same AP with only a WLC (same AP with same SSID is mapped to different VLANs). You may need a radius server to dynamically assign a VLAN to the clients if you are using same SSID for data and voice.
If you are using different SSIDs for voice and data, you can map each SSID to its corresponding VLAN on the remote site using the VLAN mapping option under HREAP tab in the AP config page.
You can not configure the AP from its console. Lightweight APs can only be configured from the controller. (a few exceptions are available that do not apply here) .

  • WLC and AAA - one SSID and more VLANs

    hi,
i have an ACS 4.1, AP1242, WLC4404 and Catalyst 3750, and an Win2003 DHCP Server
    Switch Interface Config:
    interface Vlan10
    ip address 10.70.170.1 255.255.255.0
    ip helper-address 192.168.12.10
    interface Vlan20
    ip address 10.70.171.1 255.255.255.0
    ip helper-address 192.168.12.10
at the WLC i have configured one SSID with
    - Allow AAA Override
    - Layer2 Sec: [WPA1,TKIP+WPA2,AES]
    - ACS 4.1 AAA
    - Key Management: 802.1x
one SSID mapped to the management interface. and 2 VLANS with different interfaces:
    VLAN-ID1: 10
    Interface-1:
    IP Address 10.70.170.2
    Netmask 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 10.70.170.1
    DHCP: 192.168.12.10
    VLAN-ID2: 20
    Interface-2:
    IP Address 10.70.171.2
    Netmask 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 10.70.171.1
    DHCP: 192.168.12.10
at the acs i have 2 users and two groups. Group1-User1 and Group2-User2 with the aaa attributes to change the vlan on login.
    [006] Service-Type: Authenticate only
    [064] Tunnel-Type: VLAN
    [065] Tunnel-Medium-Type: 802
    [081] Tunnel-Private-Group-ID: <VLAN-ID-1> or <VLAN-ID-2>
my problem is, that the user will authenticate successfully, and also the Vlan and Interface assignment is correct,
but the ip-address that the user will get is always the IP-Range from Interface2 (VLAN20). So when the USER2 authenticates, he get the VLAN2,
and the right interface and the right IP Adress and the communication is right.
but the USER1 gets the interface1 and VLAN10, but the IP from Interface2 (VLAN20).
    what can it be?
    thx

FYI - If you're using ACS v4.1, you can also achieve this using the Airespace Attributes, by specifying the WLC interface name in the appropriate section.

  • Wireless Max SSID on WLC and AP

    Hi,
    I'm using a NME-AIR-WLC6-K9, Software Version 7.0.235.3.
    I have 6x Access Points AIR-LAP1142N.
The limitation on the WLC is only 16 SSIDs, I'm not sure what the AP is capable of max SSID broadcast. Does any one have this information?
My question, is there a way of expanding the controller to allow for more WLAN? Our floor would like to use another SSID on top of the 16 already configured.
    Thanks

The limitation on the WLC is only 16 SSIDs,
Each AP can broadcast a maximum of 16 SSID and nothing more.  You can configure a WLC with more than 16 SSID.
When you say AP/WLAN Groups would be a more efficient means of providing SSIDs per location, is there a Cisco document explaining this and how it will work. We provide services to our clients by providing SSID on a floor with roaming service any where within the Wifi coverage. Right now, due to the limitations of 16 SSIDs on a WLCM (SRE-710) we have ran into problems. I notice that other Cisco products such as Virtual Controller (small to mid scale) and Wireless Appliance Servers (mid to large scale) provides 512 WLANs.
Wow.  Someone's over-complicated your WLAN network.  That ain't going to be good at all.
How many clients do you provide WLAN service?  Like what Eric said, with AP Groups you can do the following scenario:
Client A and B have three SSIDs each with the 3rd SSID as "Guest".
APs inside client A premises will broadcast SSID A1, A2 and A3.
APs inside cient B premises will broadcast SSID B1, B2 and B3.
In the foyer area, you can have an AP broadcasting only A3 and B3.
Very doable and this is what the main selling point of AP Groups.
With a newer WLC, like the 2504, 5508 and the WiSM-2, you can even specify the data rates for each AP groups.  So you can say that A3 and B3 will only broadcast in 802.11 g.

  • Broadcasting SSID to specific APs connected to same WLC

    Hello all,
I just have a quick question.  Is it possible to broadcast specific SSIDs to specific access points that are connected to the same controller?  For example, SSID-A is for wireless clients located in building A within the campus; same for SSID-B and so forth?  My assumption is that all LWAPs will broadcast all SSIDs configured on the WLC.
    Regards,
    Terence

If WLAN ID number is  between 1-16 & AP belongs to "default-ap-group" WLC will broadcast all those SSID via APs on that ap-group..
You can do what you required easily by defining a AP-GROUP. Once you defined AP-Group you can selectively advertised SSID on particular APs. Also you can give different subnets for same SSID based on your grouping requirement.
Here is a reference for AP group configuration. It may help to understand this

  • SSID to Radius without WLC (Aironet 1240)

    Hi.
I am working on setting up a new WLAN infrastructure. I have set up different SSIDs connected to different VLANs, in the AP.
I also want to use Windows NPS for authenticating users on the different SSIDs, with different authentication methods based on which SSID the user/device is connecting to. To do that, NPS needs to get the SSID, but the Aironet 1240 only sends its MAC address in the Called-Station-Id. I have read a bit about this, and found out that if I have a WLC, it will add the SSID to to the Called-Station-Id. But since we do not have a WLC, I am trying to get this to work anyway.
Is it possible to modify the Called-Station-Id to include the SSID on an Aironet 1240? If not, is it possible to send the SSID as a separate attribute that can be read by the NPS?

For your reference , please check the following two links about having custom VSAs on NPS:

  • Guest WLC not talking to ISE it is in a DMZ

I have allowed all IP to the ISE servers from the DMZ the Guest 5508 WLC sits. I see requests coming in from a WLAN configured on the inside WLC but nothing from the SSID that comes from the WLC within the DMZ it is a mobility anchor for the guest network on all my WLC's.  What needs to be opened for this communication? or will the mobility anchor type setup not work in the ISE world?  I have uploaded the config of the guest WLC we are on 7.6.130

Does the anchor controller send this request? I see nothing from teh WLC thru the monitor in my ASA firewall for any WLAN traffic. Only talking back to the other controllers.  I'm confused over how this traffic flows, the main WLC holds the SSID's the Guest is handed off to the Guest controller thru the mobility but does the request to the radius or ISE servers come from the guest controller or the main controller the AP's belong to?

  • Wireless SSID @ Multiple Sites

Not sure where to post this , but here goes.
I have 8 sites all running Motorola Wireless Controllers with multipe SSID's.
I have recently decided to move to the Cisco 2504 WLC since our Motorola devices were out of warrnaty and support.
The issue I am experiencing is when I configure my WLC 2504 with the identicle SSID parameters\settings as my Motorola
devices the users are unable to connect. They have to manually remove the existing wireless profile and re-create it.
This will be a bit of a pain especially with 700 users.
Any ideas if such a feature can enable this "talk nice" piece.
Cheers and hopfully this makes sense.

  • WLC DHCP & VLAN issue

    Hello,
I configured on my WLC 5508 a new Interface & VLAN . The WLC act as DHCP Proxy.
I enabled also Flex Connect local switching . Then I removed on my Switch under the
VLAN settings the IP helper because as I know the WLC act as  IP helper.
What is still not clear for me is where I have to insert the DHCP server adress
on my WLC controller. Must I insert the DHCP server IP under my management Interface
or where I have to enter the DHCP server IP.
I tested this with the new VLAN interface and added the DHCP server IP but without success.
    Thanks for help.
    Regards

    Hi,
I addedd an IP helper under the L3 configuration without success. Same, WLAN clients don´t get an IP .
    I configured following:
add a new VLAN into the switch with layer 3 and addedd IP helper on the L3 switch.
add the VLAN into the WLC controller wth a new SSID and Interface for this VLAN.
Enabled Flex Connect under the SSID.
Done a test with a wired client direct on a switch without problems.
If I try to connect over the WLAN then the client don´t get an IP.

Can I have configure the same SSID with the same NPS radiud win 2008 server in this another WLC 2504?? and How could I do it?

    Hi Scoott,
Thank you so much for your response.

  • Aironet 2602 - Operation when WLC fails?

    Hi,
we are using a WLC2504 with several Aironet 2602 Access Points.
So far it is working fine but when I turn off the WLC all SSIDs disappear after some seconds as they couldn't find the controller anymore.
Is it somehow possible to configure the Access Points for some "Failsafe"-Mode so that operation is still possible in the case of a controller failure?
    Thanks in advance,
    Christoph

    Hi Cristoph,

Well the LWAPs are dumb devices. We do not do any configuration on the AP. We configure the WLC and APs broadcast the ssids which are configured on the WLC. That is the reason why all the ssids disappear when you turn off the WLC.
We have the option of AP-SSO which is also called HA-SKU.
All the APs on the Active WLC will also be seen on the Secondary WLC via the CAPWAP mirror image.
It is really a good option but I guess it is not supported on the 2504 WLC. it is supported on 5508 WLCs.
    Link for the HA is:
