WLC DCA algorithm updates

We have two 4404's . Both using TPC and DCA. One of the WLC's does not respond to DCA updates at all.
When looking at the DCA parameters (802.11a > RRM > Dynamic Channel Assignment (DCA))  the 'last channel auto assignment' is always displaying N.A. This problem is not applicable to the Channel Assignment Leader only on the Group Member.
Both WLCs are in the same RF group.
We have the issue on both 5.2.193.0 and 6.0.188.0
Has anyone seen this before?

The non group leader controller(s) show "n/a" because they are not the group leader.  The group leader runs the DCA (update time)

  • RRM DCA algorithm and DCA sensitivity

Can anyone explain in detail the way DCA works? I have read the RRM document - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_tech_note09186a008072c759.shtml#dca_algorithm
many times and I still do not understand DCA fully. It would help to have examples as well as to know when DCA sensitivity setting of high would be recommended.
    Thanks,
    Joe

DCA Sensitivity Level The configured DCA sensitivity setting: low, medium, or high. This setting determines how sensitive the DCA algorithm is to environmental changes such as signal, load, noise, and interference when determining whether to change channels. You can use the config advanced {802.11a | 802.11b} channel dca sensitivity {low | medium | high} CLI command to configure the DCA sensitivity level.

  • Problems to connect WLC after Firmware Update

I have two WLC 4100, which just updated to the latest Software Version 3.2.193.5.
Everything works fine, except I have problems connecting to the configuration Website.
    I have the following situation:
My client is connected in VLAN A, there is also a Dynamic Interface configured in that VLAN A. The Management IP is configured in VLAN B. The Vlans are routed and gateways and so on are correct.
The WLC is Layer 3 Mode.
With the older software release I could connect to Interface IP in VLAn A or the Management IP in Vlan B.
Now with the new software I cannot login on the interface IP on VLAN A anymore. Furthermore the Management IP on VLAN B is only "available" after I tried to connect to the interface IP on VLAN A.
Otherwise the Management IP does not even answer to a ping.
I am not quiet sure if this is a feature or a bug. Anyway it is very annoying
Hopefully somebody has a solution or at least the same issue, so I do not feel so alone ;-)
    Thanks for your support

I've seen something like this, too, on the WiSM when I had to enable telnet (ick) to run the LWAPP upgrade utility. It would not answer telnet on the maintenance port addresses (it even was nice enough to say so with a message) until after I had successfully telnetted to the corresponding management address. After that, it worked and I was able to run the upgrade utility. Same thing happened twice with two separate machines using the same address (at different times), so it's probably ARP related. Very strange. Don't know what to make of it.

  • WLC-5508 - Software Update issue

    Hi,
I'm having a little problem with a WLC-5508, It has the 6.0.199.4 image version and when I try to update it with any of the new versions the controller prompt this error: "% Error: Code file transfer failed - Error while writing output file". I think the controller has no enough memory to copy the file.
I ran the show memory statistics and the free system memory tells It has enogh space. So I don't know what to do, I read all the configuration manual but I can not find any slution. The probles is that I need to asosiate 8 new AP-2602 and with this old software version they are not compatible.
If anyone knows a posible solution, it would help me a lot.
    Thanks!!

You can not directly upgrade the ios, kindly consult the following cisco link
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn74.html
"It is not possible to directly upgrade to the 7.4.100.0 release from a release that is older than 7.0.98.0"
you have to complete the work in two step i.e 6.x to 7.0.x and then to 7.4

  • WLC Standard Signatures Update

Hi, I have a WLC n WCS and 6x 1252AP on my current setup.
There are 17 default Standard Signatures on the WLC.
I would like to know whether updated signatures can be downloaded manually from Cisco website, and tftp into the WLC.
According to cisco readups, we can customize the signatures ourselves and upload to the WLC. Which is such a hassle & not feasible option for us.
My customer is concerned where if its possible to have regular signature updates from Cisco, instead of customizing it ourselves.
Cisco wIPS and actual IPS not considered in this setup.
    Please advise

hi Grey, thanks for your information.
    Let me get this straight.
I am now running Software Version:5.0.148.0.
Meaning to say, if i were to upgrade it to 5.2 ill be getting the latest updated signatures? And also limited to 17 Signatures?

    Dear Friends,
I am using Cisco WLC 2504 current software version is 7.0.220.0 and I want to upgrade it to the latest version which is 8.x.x.x.
Could you please help and advice the best way of doing it? Also can I upgrade direct to the latest version or do I have to upgrade step by step?
Thank you very much for your help and support.
    Thanks
    Umar

    Hi
Could you please help and advice the best way of doing it? Also can I upgrade direct to the latest version or do I have to upgrade step by step?
Yes, you can go directly to 8.0.x from 7.0.x code. Refer below link
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn80mr1.html#68333
Make sure you refer the release notes for any known issues with this code. Also upgrade FUS to 1.9.0.0 as well. This will take around 30 min downtime as well.

  • ISE 1.2 - WLC 5508 - NAS sends RADIUS accounting update messages too frequently

I'm getting this error in ISE referring to my Cisco 5508 WLC.  I'm not sure how to turn down the frequency.  Any ideas?
NAS sends RADIUS accounting update messages too frequently
Verify NAS configuration. Verify known NAS issues.

I opened up a TAC case with Cisco yesterday and this is the response i got from them:
There is bug on the WLC side to reduce the number acct updates:
CSCug14713- WLC sends acct-update twice in the same millisecond
This is fixed in 8.x on the WLC.
So, it looks at though we just have to deal with it until they release an 8.x version for the WLC. In the meantime, you can disable the alerts in ISE.
    Administration>Settings>Alarm Settings>Misconfigured Network Device Detected
Edit that alarm and set it to disabled

  • QoS Configuration for NME-AIR-WLC

    Hello,
I have a question on the correct QoS configuration for a VoIP deployment. I have followed the steps referenced here but have two questions..
    1) The last recommendation in the list is to set DCA channel sensitivity to High to avoid changes during business hours. I think this should be Low? The manual states "Low—The DCA algorithm is not particularly sensitive to environmental changes."
    2) The recommendation is to trust dscp on AP uplinks and to trust cos on the WLC uplink. However I can't find any configuration guidelines for configuring QoS if the WLC in question is an NME hosted in a 2921.
2a) The link between the switch and the 2921 is an 802.1q trunk so should I trust cos on this link rather than dscp?
2b) What configuration should be on the 2921? Create a policy-map and apply it to the uplink port?
2c) Should there be a service policy assigned to the In1/0 interface for the WLC itself?
    Any thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Well I appear to have answered question 2 after I stopped being lazy and did some packet captures.
No configuration required on 2921 as packets captured from In1/0 and Gi0/0 show correct DSCP markings on RTP and SCCP packets.
Would still be interested to know on question 1 though.

  • Full of features: Lumia Denim Update

    Hey,
Lumia Denim update has started rolling out to selected devices and markets, and will continue to rollout in several waves. A wider rollout of Lumia Denim to all Lumia devices running Windows Phone 8.1, is expected to begin in early January, following partner testing and approvals.
Note: In anticipation of the Lumia Denim Update, make sure you have Lumia Cyan installed. More details on that, here.
You can find the latest availability details & update instructions from this page: http://www.microsoft.com/en/mobile/support/software-update/wp8-software-update
Exact content of the update depends on the device model - you can find the details for your device from your local Microsoft.com support pages. The pages for each country/device will be updated as the rollout proceeds.
Below you can find a summary of the key features included in the Denim update (source: http://lumiaconversations.microsoft.com/2014/09/04/lumia-denim-update):
    Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1:
Cortana – The most personal digital assistant on the market will now be available in the UK and China as a Beta. India, Canada and Australia will have access to Cortana as a public Alpha. For US residents, Cortana now includes an improved natural language, car kit integration via Bluetooth for contacts, snooze reminders and calendar improvements.
Live folders – If you prefer to keep your apps or games organised, you can now put them into folders. Simply press, hold and drag an app over another to create a new folder on the Start screen. Each folder can be renamed by tapping on the text field above the open folder.
Apps Corner – Create a customised Start screen, where only specific apps or games are accessible. This could be particularly useful in the workplace if you’re issuing Windows Phones to employees.
SMS merge and forwarding – Select individual text messages to either delete them out of a messaging thread, or to copy and past them into a new message in order to forward them.
Snooze Times – It’s now possible to customise the snooze time within the Alarm app.
Consumer VPN – Maintain privacy and security when using data while connected to public Wi-Fi hotspots or even with your home Wi-Fi.
Mobile Web Site improvements in IE – Connect and browse even faster with improved downloading speeds on mobile websites.
Store Live Tile (US only) – The Store Live Tile displays featured apps and games that are the most popular in the Store, or most relevant for you.
    Unique Lumia experiences:
The Lumia Denim Update provides features that are exclusive to Lumia. We always strive to bring new features to everyone, but some of which are hardware dependent and are only announced for the Lumia 930, Lumia Icon, Lumia 1520 and Lumia 830, such as the Lumia Camera.
Lumia Camera – Replacing Nokia Camera, Lumia Camera is faster and more intuitive than before to make the best camera experience, even better.
Speed – Pocket to capture speeds are superfast, and it only takes milliseconds going from shot to shot.
Moment Capture – A long press of the camera button starts 4K-quality* video recording at 24 FPS. With each frame at 8.3 megapixels, you can save individual frames as high quality still images.
Rich Capture – Auto HDR and Dynamic Flash are now welcomed into the already-impressive feature set. Shoot first and adjust the camera settings later for that perfect photo.
Improved image processing algorithms – Updated to give you clearer photos, even in lowlight.
“Hey Cortana” Voice Activation** – Gone are the days of pressing the microphone button to wake-up Cortana. Simply say “Hey Cortana” while the phone is idle and Cortana will activate. This is possible thanks to the SensorCore technology.
Glance Screen – Compatible Lumia devices can now show more at a glance with Bing Weather, or Bing Health & Fitness data, in addition to time and date, notifications and application data.
*Due to hardware differences, Lumia 830 shoots Moment Capture in Full HD, not 4K, and with reduced 2-megapixel per frame quality.
** Available on the Lumia 930, Lumia Icon, and Lumia 1520.

  • ISE 1.2 - Error 12929 NAS sends RADIUS accounting update messages too frequently

We are currently running Cisco ISE 1.2, and every day under the "Misconfigured Network Devices" section on the main ISE Page, I have a huge list of different devices that are all being flagged with the following error message:
"12929 NAS sends RADIUS accounting update messages too frequently." " NAS sends RADIUS accounting update messages too frequently
Verify NAS configuration. Verify known NAS issues."
The list of devices seems to all be Cisco switches; albeit different models, IOS versions, ect.
i have searched on this issue, and the closest thing to a fix I can find is that it would be fixed in a WLC update, but that was 9 months ago.    I would like to know what causes this issue, and what needs to be altered in ISE, or on the switches to resolve this.
    Thank You.

CSCuh20269    WLC sends acc updates too frequently, indicates user roams to itself  is the defect specifically on the WLC that is fixed in one of the 7.6 releases.
Along with the config Jatin mentioned, you may want to try pulling an Accounting report from ISE periodically and analyze the traffic/isolate the endpoints/supplicants that may be causing  a lot of activity (For ex frequent IP changes ) which results in frequent accounting updates.

  • L920 Cyan Update: minor problems after update

Hello everyone! I thought I should try to find help here since the FAQs won't do in my situation. I updated my Lumia 920 (Italian CV) to Lumia Cyan and Windows Phone 8.1 a few days ago (the morning it became available) and I noticed a few nuisances, especially regarding to the system apps that came with the firmware update.
So, let's begin: after the WP8.1+Cyan update I had to restart my phone several times to be able to project my screen, to update the glance screen and Networking+ apps etc., which is not a problem for me. The problem is that some of them are not functioning as they should be: for example, a minor issue is that the glance screen keeps showing the "Low battery+in battery saver mode" icon when my phone is low on battery but is not in battery saver mode (I checked it, it was disabled in the Battery Saver app). Another, more annoying issue is that the Display settings app (that lets me configure my color profile etc.) does not have options I expect it to have and it does not behave as it should: for example, as far as I know, I should have a brightness profile menu - which I do not have. I did not really need this function but it is missing so in this case I think it is an issue. What the real problem is, that when the ~"Lower screen brightness when in battery saver mode" option is enabled, my phone's soft buttons' lights automatically turn off (even in low light) and my screen's brightness is lower when it is set to "Automatic". This would not be a problem when I'm in battery saver mode, but I am not! Another minor issue is that when I try to slide to the app list from the start screen, it lags a bit: I mean, it does not instantly follow my finger but instead waits a very short amount of time and then slides to the left.
So, what I found out is that somehow these Nokia system apps could think that I am continuously in battery saver mode and it does not matter if I turn it off or change it to "when battery is low" or anything. Also found out that now my battery saver app says "Last charge: less than an hour ago" - I charged it yesterday and have not plugged the USB cable into it since then. I also do not see the USB settings in my Settings view, but I can reach it by searching "USB" - it's like if it was in developer preview o.O
I do not have issues with touch or anything else (yet?) but I would like to ask you if there is a solution which is not hard resetting my phone? I already did a soft reset, manual reboot, "let the phone battery go to zero and then fully charge it up" but none of them helped. I tried to change the brightness settings, updated all the apps and checked for system updates etc.
    Some probably useful information:
    Phone: Lumia 920 (Yellow)
    Carrier: Italy - CV
Update process: that's a bit tricky: I received Lumia Black with GDR3 and then I thought I could try WP8.1, ticked the preview app's box and received that "post-GDR3 update" which was a really small package then I changed my mind and disabled the developer preview function, so I did not receive a notification of the WP8.1 update. I received the "pre-WP8.1 update" then the WP8.1+Lumia Cyan update, everything went smoothly except that my phone rebooted when I started configuring WP8.1 (I thought it should have rebooted earlier..). Another "probably-not-an-issue" is that when I enter my SIM PIN, the phone says "accepted", the label switches back to "Enter SIM PIN" and then after ~0.5 seconds it goes away and unlocks. Might this be caused by WP8.1's Dual SIM support?
So, in short I only have these little issues, that the phone's Nokia system apps somehow always detect that I'm in battery saver mode. Short addition: Iupdated the "Display" app while I was still on WP8 GDR3+Lumia Black.
Again, the question is whether there are any solutions except hard resetting, because that is the last thing I want to do with my phone and only if there really is nothing else :-/
Thank you for your help in advance and sorry for the long message, I just tried to include everything that might be of help :-)

My Lumia 920 is updating its firmware right now. Question: is iot the announced Denim update and does it correct some of the issues we discussed here?
    The Denim update's features are:
    Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1:

  • H-REAP update frequency

    Hi Netpro,
I've got an existing H-REAP deployment, and I've noticed that changes to the WLAN configuration on the WLC does not update the remote APs immediately. Is there a timer, or some logic that is used in updating APs that are configured as H-REAP?
    Thanks!
    Paul

I've done a 300 plus AP deployment in H-Reap mode, but we used several controllers. We also did central authentication for their locally switched SSID. This does bring in the possibility of an outage in the case of a WAN outage, but for this customer that wasn't a big issue since the majority of the application that would be accessed on the WiFi would be down in the event of a WAN outage, plus they had VPN backup.
I would have liked more H-REAP groups, but we worked around it for small locations.
If you had a bunch of small locations with local auth you would be in trouble, but the other limitaions are minor.

  • DNS discovery and option 43 in DHCP which is prior

We have both DNS  and Option 43  contorller discovery ways in one network but they direct to different WCL .
I just want to know which one is more aggressive to advertise the IP address of controller.
    thank you in advance.

I need to know what's the procedure for LAP when looking for WLC ? which one will be the first ? DNS looking for option or DHCP option ?
    thank you
Scott Fella wrote:Here is a link to the AP's selection process. Also in the link the how the AP will choose which WLC.
After the LAP completes steps 1 to 5 of the Layer 3 LWAPP WLC Discovery Algorithm, the LAP selects a WLC from the candidate WLC list and sends that WLC an LWAPP join request.
WLCs embed this important information in the LWAPP discovery response:
    The controller sysName
    The controller type
The controller AP capacity and its current AP load
    The Master Controller flag
    An AP-manager IP address
The LAP uses this information to make a controller selection, with use of these precedence rules:

  • How to debug for Eixt Class CL_RSPLS_CR_EXIT_BASE

    Hello,
I have created a input ready query and I have a requirement where we can use based on the characteristic of Organisation and Country to derive the Material group.
    For example:
    Country     Organsiation    Material group
    16            4518          =====> 164518
I know I can use classes in SE24.
I am assuming I should use CL_RSPLS_CR_EXIT_BASE for my requirement.
I have defined a characterisitc relationship with Organisation and Country as source characteristic and  Material group as target and chose Characteristic Combinations Based On : Exit class and Exit Class: CL_RSPLS_CR_EXIT_BASE
    In IF_RSPLS_CR_METHODS~DERIVE  :
    FIELD-SYMBOLS: <l_chavl> TYPE ANY.
    data:  l_pur_org type /BI0/oid_pur_org,
            l_country type /bi0/oid_country.
ASSIGN COMPONENT 'D_PUR_ORG' OF STRUCTURE c_s_chas
    TO <l_chavl>.
      l_pur_org = <l_chavl>.
ASSIGN COMPONENT 'D_COUNTRY' OF STRUCTURE c_s_chas
    TO <l_chavl>.
      l_country = <l_chavl>.
    CLEAR <l_chavl>.
    CONCATENATE '10' l_pur_org l_country INTO <l_chavl>.
ASSIGN COMPONENT 'D_MTLGROUP' OF STRUCTURE c_s_chas
    TO <l_chavl>.
For the above function  I get Organisation and Country from input schedule and it should derive  Material group and save it into the cube.
Is code wrong? It can not debug when i execute the query.
ps. I have tried to create break-point, and external break-point. But it does not work.
    Thanks for your suggestion.
Edited by: gang qin on Jan 11, 2010 9:12 PM

    Hi.
First you should create your OWN class based on CL_RSPLS_CR_EXIT_BASE  via se24.
Second redefine 3 methods: CHECK and CREATE without any code and DERIVE with your code.
As I understand your material group should be: '10' (constant) + pur_org + country cancateneted.
If Im right plz try the next code (plz note the code is not checked and debigged. If you will set breakpoint in method derive in your own class you can debug it).
You can change this code in section with comments "**** Your derivation algorithm here"
    METHOD if_rspls_cr_methods~derive.
    infrastructure needed by the buffer:
      DATA: l_s_mesg   TYPE if_rspls_cr_types=>tn_s_mesg,

  • WCS annual support: what do I get for extra AP license packs?

I am not trying to be snide here, but I am having a difficult time understanding what new value I get for an extra SAU annual support package that my Cisco Partner says I now need, since I added additional AP licenses to the WCS software. This add-on SAU will more than double my annual support costs for the WCS software. I've called and emailed my partner several times on this, and basically it came down to "that's how Cisco does it now." I've also done on-line chat and a couple hours of phone  time with Cisco's pre-sales support, and technical support, but neither of them was able to give me any answer, and after passing me back and forth between their two divisions, they passed the buck back to my Cisco partner.
But, my question remains: What additional value do I get for this doubled price "Software Application support with Updates"? I can already download WCS software and WLC firmware. The only thing that has changed is my software's AP limit.
We've had WCS 5.0, with the original Base 50 AP license. The WCS server runs two WLC 4402 units, one set for 25 APs, and one for 50. We actually have 46 APs deployed. We've paid annual support since we first purchased this system, SAU software and upgrade support for the WCS software, and SmartNet hardware support for the WLCs. We have not had support for our actual AP hardware, as our partner recommended just buying spares instead, as a cheaper option. But, AP firmware updates come automagically with the WLC firmware updates.
We will soon be going beyond 50 APs, so we installed an 100 AP add-on license for the WCS. This changed the "About" box for the WCS software so it now says it is licensed for 150 permanent APs, instead of the original 50. (This add-on license cost more than $4,000, so I don't feel that I'm trying to get a bigger WCS system without paying for it.)
Recently I upgraded my WCS software to v5.2 and then to v6, and am currently at 6.0.196.0. I also upgraded my WLC firmware, which updated my APs. Everything seems to be working well, and these updates were all included in my basic SAU for WCS, which runs about $720 per year.
However, March is when our SmartNet renewals come due, and my partner says we now need to buy a second version of WCS SAU, supposedly a requirement with our additional 100 AP license. This add-on support ( part "CON-SAU-WLB100EX" ) goes for $1,080 per year, so my WCS annual support would now be $1,800 instead of $720.
As I said, I really don't understand what I'm getting for this additional money. We are a small enough college that I can't spend $1000 without justifying the expense. Already, with my existing WLC SmartNet payment I get firmware updates for my WLC and AP hardware, and with my existing WCS SAU payment I get software updates on the server. None of this seems to have changed with the additional AP license count.
(Note that although the WCS update package allows 100 more APs, my present WLC hardware really only allows an additional 25 APs.)
If nothing else, for $1,000 a year, Cisco should be able to give me a pithy explanation of what I am buying :-)
    In summary:
What does CON-SAU-WLB100EX actually support? Why do I need it?
What happens if I keep paying my CON-SAU-WCS support and my WLC support, but do not add this new charge? Is my WCS software still upgradeable?
Thanks for any insights you can provide,
    Steve Bohrer

I'm not selling support contracts, I just work in TAC. But here's my 2 cents :
If you have your license for your extra APs (which you said you already bought), your WCS will run just fine.
With regards to software download, either you have download access or you don't. The system can't prevent you to download WCS because it saw you had purchased more AP license than your support contract mentions. So download should still work in the future.
From a TAC perspective, if there is a support contract, we give support. We don't care at all how many APs people have.
So all considered, I have no idea what this extra support contract will bring you :-)
But since the Sales people in your region don't seem to gifted in explaining what they are selling, I would just go without that special contract unless they justify what it exactly adds and what you will lose if you don't take it. Probably if you don't say a word, they won't notice anything and will still support you nonetheless :-)
