WLC Error

Hello,
The WLC has been recently replaced with a new one and I'm trying to edit the other WLCs in the same location with the new MAC address but I'm getting the following error:
Error in deleting pre-existing mobility group member with this address xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx
How can I rectify this issue?
Thanks.

the mobility group name in the Default Mobility Group text box and lists the MAC address and IP address of each controller that is currently a member of the mobility group. The first entry is the local controller, which cannot be deleted.

  • WLC Error - SSID connection is flapping

    Hi All,
I have a strange and "simple" scenario which is making problems on my wireless connections, lemme explain:
I have two WLC 5508 running a image version 7.6.100.0 and APs 2602E in 3 different place such as Controller + 13 APs on HQ and 9 APs divided by 2 branches.
I do not have VLANs for while, just a basic and flat vlan, two SSIDs without broadcast which one is for Data Collectors and other is for users with WPA2-Personal security.
APs in HQ are configured as Local Mode and on branches are configured as FlexConnect.
I am losing my connection from Data Collectors or Laptops to the SSIDs (it's just desappearing and returning after 60 seconds +/-). When I look to the WLC log, its showing the errors below:
    *spamApTask0: Sep 23 12:16:24.149: #APF-3-WLAN_OUT_OF_RANGE: apf_site_override.c:2309 WLAN value 17 is out of range.

Could you please guys help me on this? Could be an Image problem?
I know that my current topology is wrong however it was the only way that I had to put it up regarding business needs.
    Thank you guys

    Hi Rasika,
It's seems better now, however 40 minutes ago I got the same issue with aditional log. I don't know if it happened due to problem not solved or maybe a problem with one client only. Follow log:

  • 12511 Unexpectedly received TLS alert message; treating as a rejection by the client

ISE Version: 1.2.0.899 (Running in VMware)
    WLC: 5508 ver 7.6.100.0
I have a WLAN created that uses dot1x authentication. The WLAN points to ISE for RADIUS AAA. I cannot get any windows computer to connect to it (7,8 or 8.1 tested), but android, ios and osx are all able to connect. I have a 3rd party cert (GoDaddy) installed in my local store in ISE, which is valid and not expired. I do not understand why windows machines are failing.
I am migrating to this new ISE server and my old ISE server has the same configuration (as far as I can tell) for this WLAN and it works for all devices, including windows. The difference is that it is on a different domain (the reason for the migration is we changed domains).
    Here is the ISE error:
    Event: 5400 Authentication failed
Failure Reason: 12511 Unexpectedly received TLS alert message; treating as a rejection by the client
Resolution: Ensure that the ISE server certificate is trusted by the client, by configuring the supplicant with the CA certificate that signed the ISE server certificate. It is strongly recommended to not disable the server certificate validation on the client!
Root cause: While trying to negotiate a TLS handshake with the client, ISE received an unexpected TLS alert message. This might be due to the supplicant not trusting the ISE server certificate for some reason. ISE treated the unexpected message as a sign that the client rejected the tunnel establishment.
    Here is the WLC error:
AAA Authentication Failure for UserName:Domain\User User Type: WLAN USER
Here is the windows event viewer error:
    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing
    Event ID:      5632
    Description:
A request was made to authenticate to a wireless network.
    Subject:
        Security ID:        NULL
        Account Name:        User
        Account Domain:        Domain
    Network Information:
        Name (SSID):        IT-Test
    Additional Information:
Reason Code:        Explicit Eap failure received (0x50005)
        Error Code:        0x80420014
        EAP Reason Code:    0x80420100
EAP Root Cause String:    Network authentication failed\nThe user certificate required for the network can't be found on this computer.
        EAP Error Code:        0x80420014
On the ISE server that is working you are presented with a window that asks you to connect or terminate based on the certificate not being validated. I don't know why that isn't happening with this new ISE server, it just fails without prompting the user to connect or terminate. Both certs are from GoDaddy.
A difference between the certs is the old has a cert that was generated through ISE and the new server has an imported wildcard cert.
Anyway, I hope that is enough information to understand the issue. I appreciate the time anyone takes in assisting me with this issue. I did setup a copy of the WLAN so that I can test as needed and not have to wait for a maintenance window.

Thanks for your prompt reply. If I understand you correctly, the workaround is to essentially NOT use a wildcard certificate?
Here is another thing. In the certificate operations section I moved EAP to the self-signed certificate and the behavior is the same, but the error is different. The self-signed cert isn't a wildcard and it still fails on windows only.
    ISE Error:
    Event: 5400 Authentication failed
Failure Reason: 12321 PEAP failed SSL/TLS handshake because the client rejected the ISE local-certificate
Resolution: Check whether the proper server certificate is installed and configured for EAP in the Local Certificates page ( Administration > System > Certificates > Local Certificates ). Also ensure that the certificate authority that signed this server certificate is correctly installed in client's supplicant. Check the previous steps in the log for this EAP-TLS conversation for a message indicating why the handshake failed. Check the OpenSSLErrorMessage and OpenSSLErrorStack for more information.
Root cause: PEAP failed SSL/TLS handshake because the client rejected the ISE local-certificate
Obviously the self-signing CA isn't in the local machines store.

  • Cisco AIR-CAP1552SA MAP drops off showing spamApTask0 messages

On WLC5508 with 7.6.110.0 image, what could be the reason for MAP AIR-CAP1552SA to drop off from its RAP for 7 hours after 15 days of working?
Apparently, the MAP joined back after seven hours with following messages below. (I have obfuscated actual mac address by xx:xx.)
During the dropped period, the WLC did not receive any CAPWAP discovery/join or show any other messages from these two APs.
There is a Primary and Secondary WLC, and other APs. WLC had been up for 71+ days at that time. So, WLC or RAP were not down.
The WLC and APs are in the same country code - India domain.

The MAP has the same image as WLC, exists in the mac-filtering list, and was joined thru a RAP (CAP1552) for 15 days.
    1. Why was MAP showing no image in 'bundleApImageVer: ' message above?
    2. What does 'Spam AP Queue is FULL' mean? When is this message seen? I searched but this message couldn't be found in WLC error list.
There are no AP crash log on the WLC. The MAP is three hops away. All APs are already in the Mac Filtering list and on the same subnet as WLC.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Thanks, salodh and mohanak!
This CSCuo06388 is the closest issue I find to the one described in our scenario. It has been apparently fixed in Rel 8.0(0.72).
In this bug report, the log displays the AP at least has the image.
In our original issue, the AP doesn't seem to have an image when it displays:
    *spamApTask0: Aug 05 12:29:44.546: apType: Ox14 bundleApImageVer:
*spamApTask0: Aug 05 12:29:44.546: Could not find image version of bundled AP(apType: 20)!!!
Also, the existing AP drops off from the WLC for up to few hours and then joins back to the WLC.
Please add comments here If anyone knows when this bundleApImageVer: without image message is seen. Thx.
    -Arif
PS. For others, CSCts55071 was fixed in Rel 7.0 MR5 and it prevented new AP joining WLC when SPAM-Q full.

  • Error when adding a WLC to WCS

When adding a WLC to WCS I get this error: Failed to add device to WCS Reason:
COMMON-1: Some unexpected internal error has occured. If the problem persists please report to the Tech Support.
WCS 7.0.164.0 was upgraded from 5.2.110.0 because the WLC were running 7.0.98.0
    WLC4404-100 7.0.98.0 (Already in WCS)
WLC4402-12 7.0.98.0 (Changed the ip address of the management and ap manager.  Was in WCS but deleted from WCS prior to the ip address change and prior to the WCS being upgraded)
I know that the snmp strings are fine and that the WLC's both respond to snmp get commands.
The intial WCS upgrade from 5.2.110.0 to 7.0.164.0 didn't require the previous version to be uninstalled.  After the upgrade and restoring the WCS from backup. I was getting the error posted above.  We uninstalled WCS and re-installed WCS from scratch and still we are getting the same error.  We tried restarting the WCS services and also the VM box as well and not luck.  I was wondering if the WCS has the old ip and mac address of the WLC4402-12 in the database and that is why i'm getting this error.
I did delete and try different snmp community strings with no luck with WCS.  Again, snmp is working since I can do snmp get from the WLC's.

    Scott,
    This is the issue:
com.cisco.common.persistence.transaction.TransactionException: Null value was assigned to a property of primitive type setter of com.cisco.server.managedobjects.aaa.GuestUserTemplateCG.userStatus
Could be an existing bug or a new one. I cant say unless I look into your setup.

  • ISE 1.2 / WLC 5508 EAP-TLS expired certificate error, but wireless still working

Hi I have a customer that we've deployed ISE 1.2 and WLC 5508s at.  Customer is using EAP-TLS with and everything appears to setup properly.  Users are able to login to the network and authenticate, however, frequently, I'm getting the following error in ISE authentication logs:

I'm not sure if this is cosmetic or if this is something that I should be tracking down.  System isn't in full production yet, but every client seems to be working and there is no expired cert in the chain.  Any ideas what to check?

    Hello Dino,
thanks very much for your reply.
The client uses a machine-certificate, the PKI is not a microsoft one, but a third party PKI.   The certificate is fresh and valid, the root-cert is installed and checked to be validated against it for the login.
Clock is correct too. The same setup works flawlessly in Windows 7 and XP.
EKU is set on the certificate (1.3.6.1.5.5.7.3.2)
I suspect the cert-setup itself, but don't get a clue where this might stuck...

I had some search, and the new discovery cause, might be that the AP didnt know what WLC do associate, in a multi-controller environment. This is not the case. I only have one WLC in the same management vlan.
2st-The Radius server is beeing related in the logs as been deactivated. I raise the server time-out on Radius configuration option, but it still continues to do it.

No mather what the manual say, after that the AP is rebooting 2 mins in 2 mins... with the same kind of messages.
The interface on the switch is getting a few input errors and the same numbers of crc... but are so few...
Next step ... i will change it to another one's place/pathing cable.
Regarding the Radius messages... any ideas ?
I'm already on 30 sec's of server timeout.
    Best Regards,
    Bruno Petrónio

  • Cisco Prime and WLC packet capture error - Request Timed Out

    Hello,
We have a Cisco Prime installation (2.2.0) and a WLC (Cisco 5508)
I’ve been trying to test the wireless packet capture function, but have now run into problems, a quick rundown of my actions so far:
Selected a wireless access point in Prime and clicked ‘Packet Capture’
Did a packet capture saving to the PI, the capture worked fine
Could not find any way to delete the packet capture
Selected a wireless access point in Prime and clicked ‘Packet Capture’
Did a packet capture saving to an FTP server, the capture worked fine
The 1st capture had finished (10 minute capture) before testing the second
The 2nd capture has also finished and saved the files to the FTP server as specified
Now though I cannot capture from any access point as when I click ‘Packet Capture’ I get the error:
“Request Timed out. Error in getting data from server.”
The error is ‘instant’ as in no delay indicating something actually timing out.
So the 2 problems I have are:
How do I fix the ‘request timed out’ error above
How do I delete old packet captures from the PI
I hope someone can help as I can’t find any info on either of the problems.
    Cheers
    Adrian

I think I've solved (2) by deleting the files from the FTP directory on the prime box through SSH.
So I'm now just stuck on the timed out error.

  • WLC 4.0.217.0 reporting Decrypt Errors

    Hi,
My customer is using Cisco WLC 4402 running 4.0.217.0 and is reporting that Wireless clients are getting disconnected and reconnected every half hour and when I check for the trapslog I get the following error messages.
Decrypt errors occurred for client 00:19:d2:76:2e:7e using WPA2 key on 802.11b/g interface of AP 0 0:1a:30:2e:c2:b0
    AP's Interface:1(802.11a) Operation State Down: Base Radio :00:1a:30:2e:be:90 Cause=Heartbeat
    Timeout
I have checked for known issues but couldn't find any pertaining the issue or error message.
Could someody help or share any info to find way out to troubleshoot as what is causing this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

so we are now after disabling PEAP fast reconnect seeing tons of these errors. this is the trigger point that started creating these messages. prior to the disabling of the PEAP fast reconnect, we had clients who anywhere from 10-60 minutes would get kicked off associations with their AP. then within 1-3 seconds a reconnect would occur. a cisco TAC case engineer recommended that we take off PEAP fast reconnect.
here is the snmp-trap logs from the controller and our controller is running the following:

  • WLC 5508 - Error When Uploading Webauth Bundle

Currently have a WLC 5508 running 7.4.110.0.  I'm trying to upload (download) a webauth bundle to the controller from the web interface and am getting an error.  I've tried using FTP, SFTP and TFTP and get a different error with each.  When I started out with this, I was using a modified login.tar.  Thinking this was the problem, I switched to using the login.tar file included with the Web Authentication Bundle version 1.0.2 downloaded from the Cisco site.  This file fails with the errors below.  Does anyone have suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?  Is this is a known bug in this version of the software?  Thanks!
    For FTP:
    The web interface shows:
% Error: Webauth Bundle file transfer failed - Unknown error - refer to log.
    Log on the controller shows:
    *TransferTask: May 28 13:51:12.942: #UPDATE-3-FTP_TRANSFER_FAIL: updcode.c:5631
Error FTP file Transfer [ftp_get], <30>, Read-only file system.
    For SFTP:
    The web interface shows:
% Error: Webauth Bundle file transfer failed - Unknown error - refer to log.
    Log on the controller shows:
    *TransferTask: May 28 14:52:58.779: #UPDATE-3-SFTP_TRANSFER_FAIL: updcode.c:5869
Error SFTP file Transfer [sftp_get], <11>, Resource temporarily unavailable.
    For TFTP:
    The web interface shows:
% Error: Webauth Bundle file transfer failed - Unknown error - refer to log.
    Log on the controller shows:

    Hi,
    1. Did you used  PIcozip to compress your webauth bundle?
    2. Did you try only with one laptop , if yes then try to use other one.
    3. Just try to upload default webauth bundl from cisco to wlc and show the result to us.
    7.4.121.0 is very stable version.

  • TFTP 'configuration update' from 5508 WLC fails stating reason as '%Error: Config file transfer failed – Unknown error –refer to log'

    Dear Experts,
I have two WLCs and other management devices as part of same subnet. I am able to upload ‘configs’ from all the devices on to my TFTP server. However when I am attempting to do the same from one of my WLC, it is failing consistently stating error message as:
‘%Error: Config file transfer failed – Unknown error –refer to log
Has anyone else too faced the same issue and how would we overcome this? Any specific debug that could help get more details on it?
Though the error message says, refer to log but still I don’t see anything that gets reflected in ‘Monitor logs’ which is related to ‘configuration file’ upload failure.
    WLC code: 7.4.100.0
    PFA as the error snippet.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Adnan

    Hi Kaneswaran,
Just a soft reboot helped me solved the problem :). Still I am on 7.4 and facing no issues after this.
Apologies for coming too late to respond. Getting a down time window was not that easy and so was much delayed to try soft reload. I am still on 7.4 and facing no issue.
Glad that in your case it starting working all of a sudden. Could you please verify from 'show tech-support' to confirm if by chance your WLC had undergone any crash that could have caused the WLC to reload and thus accidently fixing the issue :)
    Best Regards,
    Muhammed Adnan
