WLC Guest Network Mobile Device Browser

Hello,
We are having some odd issues with people using there blackberry's and iphones on our guest network.  Most of the time they can connect, but when they launch there browser it doesn't always bring up the authentication page, and just says network lost.  If they get past that, and the login page comes up and they authenticate they get some kind of key store message.  If they cancel that they can browse the web but most sites seem to switch from wifi to the mobile network and then they are not using the wifi, just the mobile network.
Is there some kind of security issue with the third party certificate we use?  Why would the browser switch back and forth from wifi to mobile networks?
This behavior is not seen when one of these devices connect to a secure WLAN in our network.
Thanks,
Dan.

It always worked 100% of the time with a laptop.  I just upgraded the controller software to the latest 6.x version and it seems much better on the mobile devices now.
Dan.

  • I was able to create a guest network, However Devices will not log into it. Does this have anything to do with my uverse wireless modem

    Help, I have created the guest network. However, no devices can log into it. Can someone help me with my Guest network issues?

    Unfortunately, Apple assumes that you will be using a simple modem with their routers.  Something like this, for example, which will allow the Guest Network feature to work correctly, since the AirPort will be the main router on the network.
    The Uverse is a modem/router, also known as a gateway......a device that combines the functions of a separate modem and separate router in one package. An example of a modem/router would look like this:
    Because the Uverse is already operating as the main router for the network, the AirPort cannot take that role. So,  the Guest Network will not function correctly with the type of device that you have.....even if you try to enable it in AirPort Utility.
    Suggest that you use the AirPort router as your main network, and use the Uverse wireless for "guests".
    Sometimes, it is possible to reconfigure a modem/router to act as if it were a simple modem. I do not think that this is possible with a Uverse product, but you could check with ATT on that possibility if you wanted to do so.

  • WLC Guest Network DHCP run out of IPs??

    Hello,
    I have this guest wlan working with web authentication, as you may know in order to get authenticated you must have an IP address first then have a valid username and password. The problem is that if you don't have valid credentials you keep the IP address anyways.
    I'd like to know if there is a way to release the IPs that are not being used? The WLC is the DHCP server for this network.
    WLC4402
    6.0.202.0
    Thanks in advance!

    That would be good, but right now there is not automated process to remove those clients.
    If you are good with scripting, you could setup a script to pull the clients list, then parse it based on the authentication.  Once you have that you can then do a client deauthenticate, and wipe the IP address lease as well.
    Unfortunately, I can't be too much help as I don't really know scripting.

  • ACE Chain Certificates in mobile devices

    Hi,
    I'm having an issue with intermediate certificates from GoDaddy when connecting from some browsers of mobile devices:
    Browser in Android 2.3.3;
    Safari in iOS 4.2.1;
    Chrome 18 in Android 4.0.
    In a PC there's no problem, only from the above mobile devices. The intermediate certificate isn't downloaded from the ACE 4710 resulting in a "SSL Certificate Not Trusted" error.
    Since GoDaddy has no instructions to resolve the issue from a Cisco ACE, i'm hoping someone in the community has dealed with this issue before.
    Best regards,
    Ricardo Canto

    Hi Jorge,
    I'm sorry not being able to answer you questions earlier. I became a father at a few weeks and needed to take an absence.
    The issue was solved after the certificates were renewed last week and imported to the ACEs, no change has been made to the intermediate certificates.
    I'm going to answer your questions so that this issue can be document for future reference:
    You have indicated you have you have also the intermediate applied under a chaingroup in your current configuration, correct?
    Indeed, the intermediate is applies to the chaingroup.
    Do you have any ssl parameter to force the ACE only to use some specific certificates or you are using all(default)?
    There is a different ssl-proxy for each service. Each one has it's own chaingroup, certs and keys.
    You said you are testing with mobile devices, do you have the same behavior no matter what type of mobile device(no matter that brand)?
    Only some browsers are affected by this issue:
    Browser in Android 2.3.3;
    Safari in OS 4.2.1;
    Chrome 18 in Android 4.0.
    I've tried with other browsers but had no error:
    Google Chrome 22 in Windows 7;
    Windows Internet Explorer 9 in Windows 7;
    Opera Mini 7.5 in Android 2.3.3;
    What are you getting from your mobile devices? Page cannot be displayed or what exactly?
    In the browsers affected appears an error indicating "SSL Certificate Not Trusted"
    The error is in Portuguese, but is saying "This certificate is not from a trusted authority". As I say above the certificate is from GoDaddy, and has not been revoked.
    Have you tried from different mobile devices from differente locations?
    See answer 3.
    Have you tried to do the same tests over clear text, meaning on http? Does it work on http only?
    Non issue, since the problem refers only to SSL
    The issue was solved but wasn't able to determine if the issue was with the certificates or with the ACE.
    Thank you,
    Ricardo Canto

  • I use my mobile device as hotspot to connect desktop to internet, can't sync until I stop hotspot. Its' a catch 22

    The hotspot function of the Mobile device replaces my old dsl service with local phone company.....but I can't be on the mobile device browsing the internet at the same time the hotspot is enabling the desktop to connect to the internet. In order to sync Firefox bookmarks, etc. it seems this is a catch-22. Any work-arounds? I can't believe I am the only one using my Droid X as a hotspot to connect my desktop computer.

    Hi reeves2!
    I believe the answer to your question is found in the link you have mentioned in your post, which I will echo and highlight here:
    iOS: Understanding Personal Hotspot
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4517
    You cannot use your Wi-Fi connection for Internet connectivity while other devices are using Wi-Fi for Personal Hotspot. You can share only a cellular data connection; you cannot share a Wi-Fi connection.
    Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • How-do-i-configure-guest-wifi-access-using-2504-wlc-fortigate-utm-l3-device

    Dear All
    I have a 2504 Wireless Controller with multiple radios attached. I currently have a "private" WLAN configured (taking ip from windows server based DHCP of Range 192.1681.0/24 ) and working, but I need to add a Guest/Public WLAN which should take the IP from Other DHCP Configured on Fortigate UTM of range 172.16.0.0/24.
    We have one SG300 switch in the office and the rest are basic switches.
    Our firewall/router is a Fortigate UTM 240D
    Find the attached network diagram for the issue.
    Is there a SIMPLE way to enabling guest access that doesn't require VLANS (or are VLANS easier than I'm making them)?
    Thanks.

    Complete these steps in order to configure the devices for this network setup:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wireless-vlan/70937-guest-internal-wlan.html
    Configure Dynamic Interfaces on the WLC for the Guest and Internal Users

    Configure the Layer 2 Switch Port that Connects to the WLC as Trunk Port

    Hi Guy,
    In my ISE deployment, once the guest succcesful authenticated will be assign guest VLAN for internet access.
    we are using guest portal to do the vlan override once user authenticated.
    Window 7 Internet explorer (Active X), Chrome (Java Aplet) is working fine.
    but Android,Apple IOS devices unable to release the DHCP and get new DHCP.
    because from ISE and WLC we can see the Vlan have change, how mobile devices initiate dhcp release for Guest Portal
    Kindly advice.
    Regards
    Freemen

    I don't have such documentation nor I could find any on Cisco's site. With that being said, it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I just know that Active X is windows specific framework and Java is not supported on either iOS nor Android:
    http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_mobile.xml
    The good news is that Cisco appears to be steering away from Java so it is possible that in the future this will be supported.
    Hope this helps!

  • WLC for GUEST network hangs and requires restart

    I have a remote site customer that is getting support calls saying that guest users cannot login to the wireless "guest" network. When they try to access it, the browser hangs up when trying to load the redirect page.
    When they restart the controller, it begins working again. The WLC version is 5.0.148.0. Has anyone seen this issue? If not, what would be the best way to troubleshoot?
    Thanks for any help.

    5.0.148.0 has a lot of bugs, suggest you to keep on using 4.2.112 at this moment until the maintenance release of version 5 comes out. This is one of its bug: CSCsm98250.
    Symptom:
    Webauth and controller access via HTTP or telnet/SSH stop working.
    Conditions:
    After the controller was upgrade to 5.0, ramdomly webauth, and controller access via HTTP or telnet/SSH stop working.
    Workaround:
    Reboot controller.

  • WLC Problem 4.0 with mobile devices

    The problem is we have a WLC version 4.0 and have multiple SSIDs, but one has been created with WEP security is specific to the directors of the company. The scenario is that mobile devices (Blackberry, Iphone 4, IPad 2, etc) have connectivity problems
    One of the scenarios is not automatically sign the WIFI mobile devices and can only be after several attempts. Another scenario we have is that it takes over 15 seconds to take ip and be signed into the network. Finally, it is to tell us that after a while the devices are out of the WLAN and take again after several attempts to register or
    I hope I can guide
    GREETINGS!

    Marco,
    My recommendation is that you upgrade your controller to current software. 4.0 is ancient code.

    I cannot add a Wi-Fi guest network. Gone to Utilities>Airport Utilities and all I get is an image/browser of my Airport Extreme. Looking for the browser window which has the title Wireless but cannot find anywhere. What am I doing wrong?

    Open AirPort Utility. The first screen looks something like this:
    Click on the AirPort Extreme and another screen will appear. Click Edit, then the window with the Wireless tab will appear.
    If you do not see these screens, you will need to start over and configure your AirPort again.

  • How do I set iPhone so it isn't recognized as mobile device when browsing?

    The great thing about having a smartphone, and especially the iPhone, is that it has a fully functioning Web browser. There are so many sites out there that still force the iPhone to display and use the dumbed-down mobile sites, however, and without the option to view the regular, full-function site. Contacting the sites' owners about it yields no results. What I'd really like to know is how to make it so that my iPhone is not recognized as a mobile device. I believe the Android has that option; why can't we have it?
    The particular reason I'm asking is that I also use Yahoo business for e-mail, and Yahoo does not allow iPhone users to bypass their mobile mail site. Now, I know what you're going to say: just use the built-in mail feature. In fact I do, but the trouble is that I send and receive lots of mail in the course of my business, and sometimes I need to find a mail I sent a month or several months ago while I'm on the road. The iPhone search function can't help me with that unless I spend an hour downloading all of my sent e-mails from the past months first, and even then it sometimes doesn't find what I'm looking for. The mail search on Yahoo's Web site works perfectly (and quickly!) for that, but for some reason Yahoo doesn't allow me to switch from my personal Yahoo mail to my business Yahoo mail when using their mobile site. I can do so easily on their full-function site, but because I cannot hide that I am a mobile user, I can't access this functionality while I'm away.
    I've already given my feedback about this to Yahoo multiple times, and nothing has been done. Please tell me how I can adjust this setting on the iPhone so that I can view the full-function sites as a non-mobile user.

    When you access a web page, the browser will identify itself to the server as either the desktop or the mobile version and the server will send the appropriate page to the end device. In the case of the iPhone, Safari identifies itself as Mobile Safari, hence the mobile pages. This is very annoying and cannot be changed.
    However, there are third-party browsers which could be set up to identify themselves as desktop browsers. I use the Atomic Web Browser which is fantastic as it has many improved features compared to Mobile Safari. Download it from the AppStore and, in the Settings menu, make it identify as Safari Desktop. It's that simple.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Does it go through properly this time?

  • How can I connect my mobile device on the same network with my printer

    I have pictures on my mobile device but I am unable to print them on my HP Photosmart plus printer. I was wondering how am I able to make sure that my printer and my mobile device is on the same network so I can print my pictures or either be able to save them to my memory card?

    Hi,
    Are you talking about iPad, iPhone ?? If YES then please check your printer on this list,(updated on 15Dec2011) it must be an AirPrint enabled printer to be able to print from iPad, iPhone. If YES (again), you can use AirPrint on your iPad to print.
