WLC HA 7.6.120
Hello all, I configured 2 WLC 5508 with version 7.6.120 in HA, one of them had the management trought management-port (the primary) and the other had the management trought the service-port.
When I setted SSO enable I lost the management to the secondary and when I finished to configure the HA I tested and I can access to the GUI only when the primary is active but if the primary goes down I can't access to the GUI but everything is working fine.

Restrictions for High Availability
An HA-SKU controller with an evaluation license cannot become a standby controller. However, an HA-SKU controller with zero license can become a standby controller.
It is not possible to access the standby-hot controller through the controller GUI, Cisco Prime Infrastructure, or Telnet. You can access the standby-hot controller only on its console.
After you enable SSO, you must access both the standby and active controller using:
The console connection
SSH facility on the service port
SSH facility on the redundant management interface

when we try to discover the WLC with the PI it gave the error "SNMP Connectivity Fail"
WLC is on subnet 10.100.102.0/24 and PI in 10.100.100.0/24; there is a Catalyst 3850 between then with no access list on then.
Did someone can guide us with this?

Which version of SNMP are you using?
If you are using v1/v2 you should be using community string rather than local database credentials?
Regarding the service port what is the ip address assigned on the service port. From the configuration guide "Prime Infrastructure uses the preferred management IP address from the loop back interface. If the device does not have a loopback interface, Prime Infrastructure uses similar logic to the OSPF algorithm to select the router’s preferred management IP address."

7925 Phones voice quality issues with wlc 5508 version 7.6
Hi all,
I have a mix environment with 1 WLC 5508 and more or less 6 sites with several Access Points ( all AIR-LAP1242AG and all in FlexConnect mode Hreap ) and several wireless phones (all CP7925G) . My Ap's have antennas 2.4GHz in all sites except 1 site ( the one i'm talking for now) with 2.4GHz and 5GHz , because of the problems we suggest to have all phone in A BAND (5Ghz) . In this site we force the phones just to A (802.11a only) , power safe NONE , Continuous scan mode , i fallow all in http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/7925g/7_0/english/deployment/guide/7925dply.pdf , one thing i didn’t do it was apply QoS because I can’t apply several ios commands in that 2960 with lan lite ios.
So I have 3 SSID for data and 2 for VOICE ( one is common to all environment and supports 2.4 and 5Ghz , and other just to test one site , with only 5Ghz with “[WPA2][Auth(802.1X + CCKM)][Auth(FT 802.1X)]”, because I read that problem can be phone rooming , and in FlexConnect only have fast-roaming in a CCKM or a PKM key-management solution , but even like this the problem still exist) .
I have another sites with phones in 2.4GHz running well and others with problems.
i read here in forums lots and lots of people with similar problems , i tried several solutions ( WLC upgrades versions and phones firmware's , …. ) tried all my best of solving the problems mas now I’m running without any ideas , i did also some site surveys and detect some interferers that why I change phones to 5Ghz , and I run also WLC Config analyser to help me , but all without good success. Some changes solve temporarily problems , but after some time , people reclaim about problems.
I can open a TAC case but first I want be sure if did all already.
Can someone try to help me?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have taken care of all the settings. Problem is , the user is seated in his office cabin and using the 7925 and there is around 50db signal strength in his room from an AP which is just outside the cabin. And this doesnt occur often, when we go to check and make calls, everything is fine whereas the user says it happens sometimes in the morning, evening etc... randomly... where the fone goes blank while in a call.... since the problem never happens when we go to troubleshoot the issue, we really dont know what is going on. This is happening when calling PSTN.
AP's are not restarting and there is no logs indicating that. Wireless infrastructure looks very much OK cos there are other users who are not experiencing this problem and there is ample coverage all over the floor. I am baffled why only one user has this problem even when he is seated in his office cabin.
Tried changing phones also, but still remains.
Question : i tried to do a linktest from WLC to his phone, but it failed, while linktest to laptops are working fine. Does wlc linktest not working for wireless phones ?

Mac OSx/5508/3702i dropping issue
Hi all,
I have installed dozens of WLCs but with this one customer rollout I have hit an impasse. The customer has a 98% MacOS device environment running a 5508 HA pair and 3702i APs. The Mac OSx users randomly lose access even when their device sits in one place within 10 feet of a below ceiling tile hung AP. Disconnects can't be recreated as no particular behavior seems to trigger the drop. Also for some clients there is severe latency(>1000ms) just pinging the WLAN gateway. Pings from Gateway SVI to AP are fine(<5ms) Debugs imply AP is too busy to handle an authentication request even thought the AP only has 10 users and an insignificant amount of traffic flowing through it. This issue is not dedicated to just one AP either as folks all over the 30 AP environment suffer similarly. Air Magnet shows no coverage holes. Windows devices appear ok.
I am more interested if this is has happened to anyone else and if anyone has had something that has fixed this issue for them instead of troubleshooting.
TAC case has been open over 4 months with escalation and Backbone TAC involvement with no luck.
Details:
- Mac OSx versions are random and those running Yosemite do have the latest patch.
- WLC versions 7.6.120, 7.6.130, 8.0.102MR, and 8.0.110 have not corrected the problem. (although fewer errors are seen in the debugs)
- Although APs are actually local to the controller, the customer has them in Flexconnect for HA and Bandwidth reasons.
- problem happens with Band Steering and also with Dedicated 5Ghz SSID (2.4 unusable due to density of APs using 2.4 in surrounding buildings)
- Clear Air 5ghz report score above 97%
- tried Legacy Beam forming, no joy.
- EDRRM is on
- Fast Transition is on
- Fast SSID switching is on
- Problem occurs with 20 and 40 Mhz channel bonding.
- 802.11k sticky cache has been tried to no avail.
- FUS is at 1.8 (I hear FUS 1.9.0.0 not only fixes the subsystem bugs but may iron out problems with the Operation side too)
- SSID running dynamic vlan assignment from NPS Server
- 6 SSIDs total
- No DFS channels being used
- SSID timeout has been turned off
- Data rates below 9Mbit are disabled

Problem happens to multiple versions of OSx, those running Yosemite do have the latest patch. Unfortunately I don't think disabling N is going to be feasible. Due to the High density rate there is no b/g to fallback on (2.4 Ghz is completely saturated). So that would leave users with basically just 802.11a? I do have a customer with similar set up running 5508 (v7.6.130) with 3702 in flexconnect. The difference is the1.9.0.0 FUS has been applied and they run Pre-shared key authentication. Where as the problem customer runs older FUS and Dynamic Radius based vlan assignment. -
CPI Error: COMMON-1: Some unexpected internal error has occurred

4 5508 WLC running 7.6.120
I've been getting this COMMON-1 in CPI recently when making a configuration change to an AP or a WLC. I think it happens the most when I'm making a change to an AP. We have 1142, 3500s, and 3600 and I don't know if I get it with a particular model AP.
Has anyone else received this message? I attached a screen shot.You may need to look at upgrading PI. Take a look at the compatibility matrix. Some things will still work fine as far as monitoring, but templates and or features may not and it is limited with the PI version.

7.6.130.0 or 8.0 ?
Hi Wireless Experts,
We have 5508 WLCs running 7.6.120.0 since July 2014. No major issue so far but some inconvenience due to some little bug.
Just noticed that 7.6.120.0 is not available to download on Cisco webiste any more because some critical bugs were found.
It made us a bit nervous, even though there is only a very small portion of our environment might be impacted by these bugs.
May I please ask your opinion, as of today, which version is stable enough and better, 7.6.130.0 or 8.0 (8.0.115.0 / 8.0.110.0 / 8.0.100.0)?

CedarI would upgrade to 7.6.130.0 (after a proper bug scrub w/ your environment and used features in mind, of course). A seasoned veteran once advised me to avoid upgrading to any .0 release from Cisco. I've mostly followed that rule and been happier for it.

Voice over Wireless with Cisco phones 7921 and 7925
Hello experts,
I made an wireless audit for a company.
They have 2 WLCs 5508 in HA mode, with APs 2602 for indoor and 1552. Version of the WLC : 7.6.120.0
At the end of the day we noticed that the roaming between indoor and outdoor access points is sometimes failing and results to a complete disconnection of the wireless phone (7921 or 7925) from the network. When people go from the indoor to the outdoor area, there is no problem. The problem comes when people are coming from the outdoor to the indoor.
Also, on the WLC, the power lvl of the outdoor APs are set to 1 ... Is it good or not ?
My question is, is there any known issue about Voice over wireless with WLC 5508-7.6.120.0 with APs 2602 and 1552 ?
Maybe it should be better to upgrade to 7.6.130.0 ?

Just wanted to share incase someone ends up with the same problem as we did.
I had to update our Wism2's and 5508's to 7.6.120.0 for 3702 support. One of the Wism2's started to hand/restart a few times per week after the update. Other than that the wireless was working good. So I made a TAC case via our Cisco partner. TAC couldnt find the error but some bugs that suited what they could read from the logs and told me to update to 8.
So I did, and *smack* the wireless dropped to speeds around 5-10Mbits with 80+ ms. Yielding that exchange, fileservers and alot if not all programs did not function/lost connection.
To make a longer story short.
After the upgrade the upgrade. The upgrade itself had enabled interim update under the AAA accounting with a value of 0. I tried on our lab controller to turn on interim with the same value but the system wouldnt let me since its not an accepted value. So I turned the function off on one of the live controllers (that just had a few AP's heh) and immedietally the Wirelss were back delivering good speeds and answering times again.

WLC 7.6.120.0 Radius problems with FreeRadius server
Hi there
we have 3 WLC 5508 with version 7.6.120.0 and 2 FreeRadius servers. In the WLC log we see a lot of "radius auth-server unavailable" messages and some users can not authenticate against our dot1x (PEAP).
The problems occur most of the time, when there are a lot of WLAN clients trying to connect to the SSID at the same time.
Does anybody have the same problems or are there any known bug for this phenomena?

Symptom:
Clients are not able to Authenticate at Peak loads when using FreeRadius.
Conditions:
Using Freed radius (most susceptible), we observe at high auth rate and if Radius server is not responding to all Radius packets in seq order or if the server is slow, WLC when wraps around 0-255 Radius ID's, it does not do a check when posting new packet.
So essentially you have 2 packets with same ID being presented to AAA server.
Workaround:
Recover's when load is reduced.
Further Problem Description:
So far, issue has not been brought to notice while using ISE/ACS/NPS.
There are two possible solutions I see:
1. Downgrade to an earlier WLC version <7.6 (e.g. 7.4.121.0)
2. Try to have another radius server in between (radius proxy, e.g. Cisco ACS or Microsoft NPS)

5508 WLC going to the 11ac level, any issues running ver 7.6.120?
We do have 3850's to use. Do they have to be mobility members to the wireless system? or will the LAN base work for the connections?
The 3850 must have IP Base or IP Services to terminate Access Points in a Converged Access wireless network. If you are running a non-converged access network then you can use your 3850 to connect access points to the network like you would any other switch.
You must also have RTU licenses for each AP you want to connect to your 3850/3650 switches.
7.6.120 is non-converged access code so I am assuming you want to do the latter.

LAP 1240 won't join WLC across subnets
I am having a problem getting LAPs that are in other subnets to join our WLC. If I take the LAP and place it on the same VLAN/subnet as the WLC, it joins as expected. If I move it to another subnet, I get the following:

1. How many APs can the WLC4402 support and how many are currently joined?
2. What is your WLC's firmware?
3. Is there a possibility of a duplicate IP address in your network?

What is this client?
Try upgrading the driver or the firmware. That sort it out.

Hi all,
we are planning to upgrade our WLC to 7.6 to fix a bug with FlexConnect Client ACLs but I have just seen on the Cisco ISE Compatibility table that the it only recommends up to v7.5 of the WLC 5508...
Cisco have told me to steer clear of 7.5 as it is in a defferred status, so does anyone know, or have running in a lab or production, ISE1.2 with a 5508 WLC v7.6 NAD ?
I would much rather know of any issues people are experiencing before hand than to have to go through a software upgrade and then rollback.

right I have this almost working now.
I have simplified the setup. I am not going to do any client provisioning at the moment.
So I can connect to the corporate SSID using EAP-TLS and I can successfully push the branch data VLAN upon successful authorisation.
Now I am trying to introduce the posture element & per user ACLs.
I have defined the redirect ACL & Flex ACL on the vWLC however the NAC agent will not pop-up. The client is in the right VLAN and the redirect ACL seems to be getting applied as the client does get an IP through DHCP. However, the client cannot ping the ISE or access the guest portal when I open the browser.
DNS resolution seems to be working fine.
VLAN220 is my datacentre VLAN which the Management Interface on the controller is plugged in to.
VLAN10 is the branch DATA VLAN.

WLC 5508 - EAP-TLS - Windows 8.1 Third Party PKI
Hello,
Does anybody know what could prevent a Windows 8/8.1 system to connect to a WLC via EAP-TLS? Windows 7/XP do not have any problems here.The radius server accepts the request, but WIndows 8 still tries to authenticate.
Software is updated to 7.6.120.0, I tried to setup timeout values, but no success at all.
Did anyone have similar problems with Windows 8/81?

The client uses a machine-certificate, the PKI is not a microsoft one, but a third party PKI. The certificate is fresh and valid, the root-cert is installed and checked to be validated against it for the login.
Clock is correct too. The same setup works flawlessly in Windows 7 and XP.
EKU is set on the certificate (1.3.6.1.5.5.7.3.2)
I suspect the cert-setup itself, but don't get a clue where this might stuck...
