I have a pair of WLC 5508 in HA pair running version 7.4.121.0, last week I have two sudden reload on my active WLC. Here's the error from my syslog server on the first sudden reload. The second reload has almost the same logs.

Cisco TAC recommends to disable monitoring the default gateway.

I was wondering if someone has the issue with what I have.
Second issue I have is when it fails over to the standby WLC, I do get a web-auth certificate error from the WLC when clients login. This only happens after a sudden reload. If I do a redundancy force-switchover during maintenance window, the certificate error doesn't show up. To fix the certificate error I have to bounce both WLCs one after the other.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I exeprienced a reload problem in standby WLC, with HA in release 7.6.100.0.
I use a dedicated VLAN to transport the redundancy sync and info, 'cause the two WLCs are in different buildings.
The standby WLC reload continuously 'cause it doesn,t find the default gateway.

Rebooting as default GW is not reachable from Standby Controller
Restarting system. Reason: Default Gateway is not reachable ..
The problem is that the WLC tries to ping the DGW using the primary IP management address belonging to the active WLC, so we have duplicated IP problem, ARP problem and so on .....
The standby WLC should use the redundancy managemet address to ping the default gateway, instead the primary IP management address!!!!!!
So the workaround is the CLI command :
    config redundancy management-gateway-failover disable
on the primary WLC, via console or in SSH.
When the standby will reload it will inherit the config from the active primary WLC

  • ACE sudden reload

ACE module reload sudden , i need to know what is the cause of this
kindly provide me how can i know the cause

    Hi,
We would require following information to determine the root cause. You can attach it through a TAC raise or send them over to me.
1- 'show tech' on the switch
2- 'show tech' on the Admin context on the ACE
3- Logs on the switch covering the period when the reload happened.
4- Crash files from ACE located under "dire core:"

  • Safari 4.0.4 will suddenly reload previous page while I'm reading new page

I'll be happily reading down a column of text on a webpage and suddenly the browser will load the previous page as if I'd hit the back button.
    Any ideas?

I am having the same problem with my wireless mouse! It has been happening for months, since I bought my iMac in November. The mouse was, obviously, included with my purchase. I keep forgetting to complain about the problem, until today when this odd occurrence happened for the 500th time.
Sometimes, not always, a page I am reading will suddenly jump back a page when I reach for the mouse to slide it. I have not clicked anything, nor have I touched anything on the keyboard. It is random, and when it happens as I am composing text it is incredibly maddening! How do I make this stop? I have checked my setting and all are compatible.

  • TFTP 'configuration update' from 5508 WLC fails stating reason as '%Error: Config file transfer failed – Unknown error –refer to log'

    Dear Experts,
I have two WLCs and other management devices as part of same subnet. I am able to upload ‘configs’ from all the devices on to my TFTP server. However when I am attempting to do the same from one of my WLC, it is failing consistently stating error message as:
‘%Error: Config file transfer failed – Unknown error –refer to log
Has anyone else too faced the same issue and how would we overcome this? Any specific debug that could help get more details on it?
Though the error message says, refer to log but still I don’t see anything that gets reflected in ‘Monitor logs’ which is related to ‘configuration file’ upload failure.
    WLC code: 7.4.100.0
    PFA as the error snippet.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Kaneswaran,
Just a soft reboot helped me solved the problem :). Still I am on 7.4 and facing no issues after this.
Apologies for coming too late to respond. Getting a down time window was not that easy and so was much delayed to try soft reload. I am still on 7.4 and facing no issue.
Glad that in your case it starting working all of a sudden. Could you please verify from 'show tech-support' to confirm if by chance your WLC had undergone any crash that could have caused the WLC to reload and thus accidently fixing the issue :)
    Best Regards,

  • Wlc 5508 inaccessible after upgrade to version 8

    dear all,
I have a problem after upgrading wlc 5508,
at first after upgrade everything works fine, but while waiting for APs to rejoin, wlc suddenly inaccessible either via SSH, telnet or console
I have restart the wlc with no luck

any suggestion will be highly appreciated

If the appliance failed in the first month after delivery, you might be able to squeeze off an RMA.
If the appliance failed in the first year after delivery, I don't care what is written in the "warranty", you can't do anything until you have a valid Service Contract.

  • WLC 5508 reboots itself after upgrading to 7.5.102.0

    Hello all.
We have two WLC 5508 and we upgraded both to software release 7.5.102.0 two weeks ago. We also upgrade the FUS to version 1.7.
Since then both WLC reboot randomly once or twice a day with no obvious reason.
Is anyone else facing the same issue?
    Many thanks.

Ok, in that case it is very difficult to pin-point the cause for these sorts reboots. It may be due to a unknown bug. Go through below 7.5.102.0 release notes and see any unresolved caveats related to your issue
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn75.html#wp1030058
Have you configure syslog on your WLC ?  If so see what is the last syslog message sent by WLC before reloading, it may indicate something.
Do more observation & see whetehr controller reboot every time it hit 1k client limit. Try to narrow down the criteria to identify under what conditions this will trigger.
In my controller I do not have that many clients & cannot comment if it is related.

  • Safari reloads excessively, with unusual effects

Starting today, Safari has refused to let me log into different websites. For some, right at the point that it appears to log in successfully, it suddenly reloads and goes back to the log in screen. For others, where I have previously clicked "keep me logged in" or an equivalent checkbox, it tries for a few minutes, and then comes up with
    Safari can't display this webpage
Safari has repeatedly encountered an error while trying to display
    "https://www.facebook.com".
It also affects some websites I don't have to log into.
I have closed safari and re-opened it. The problem is still there. I've reset safari. That didn't help. I followed the instructions in this article, but safari was still acting up, so I put everything back. I guessed that the problem was either safari or my computer either overheating (a frequent problem it has, which has been slowly getting worse as it ages) or failing to connect to the network. It was easiest to try another browser, so I did that first. Lo and behold, Chrome works, so I know the trouble is with Safari, not with my computer or its internet connection. I'm just running out of ideas of how to fix it.
The weird thing is, a few pages constantly reload until they come up with an error message, some only reload when I try to log in, and some are perfectly fine. I could view www.xkcd.com with no problems, but what-if.xkcd.com refused to load. Gmail only reloads (which causes logging out, as though the browser had been restarted rather than the page refreshed) right when the progress bar loading the inbox reaches 100%, before the actual messages appear. Pokefarm reloaded with the effect of causing me to be logged out every couple of pages that would load, until I checked the "automatically log me in" box one time when I logged back in, and now it only reloads the page every once in a while. Facebook (which I've left logged in near-permanently on my computer) refuses to load. My student account logs in, sometimes long enough to click the email link, then almost immediately goes to the "session has expired" link on both tabs. I'm not finding any particular pattern except that each website is consistent in how it acts. I'm really getting frustrated
    Ideas, anyone?

Bee: Those are all good questions.
As a college student with a campus-wide network, I have no clue if anything's been changed, though we usually get emails about planned outages for maintainence. I also wouldn't know who to call. But as I said, my other browsers worked just fine (I specifically tried Chrome) so I'm pretty sure the trouble wasn't in the network.
The account with my name is an administrator, and I keep a second accont around, called "Admin" for when programs die and are harder to troubleshoot, mainly to figure out if I've just done something stupid and messed up my account rather than the whole program acting up. I didn't use that, because I tried another browser first. If that hadn't worked, I would have rebooted and seen if that helped. If that didn't help, then I would have experimented with the Admin account. I probably would have suspected the network at that point, and borrowed a friend's computer to test it.
Anyway, those two are the only accounts currently on the computer, and both are password protected. No one else has access to it, (even my roommate won't brave the disaster area that is my desk) and I didn't change any settings recently. I don't think I've downloaded anything in the past week or more. The last thing I installed was months ago. (That's the long version of "no new security apps")
That aside, I'm still not sure exactly what the problem was, but I think it was exacerbated by my laptop's heat issues. Because in the morning, Safari worked normally again. At that point, my computer had been asleep all night and had cooled down. If it had been off I would probably conclude that clearing the RAM helped, because it feels like memory is more closely related to how applications behave than heat is, but it was asleep and held onto all of my session data.
The issue is resolved as of ~16 hours after the fact. Is there a way to mark it as such?
I mean, I wouldn't mind continued discussion, in case that happens again, but it hasn't happened since. My computer has reacted much more predictably to heat and simply crashed. I think I like that better: I know what the problem is and how to fix it.

  • WLC upgrade

hi! I'm planning to upgrade my WLC5500 from version 7.0.x to 7.6.x.
I've 2 WLCs with one served as a Primary and the other one as a Backup Unit. Currently all the APs are associated to the Primary Unit. The APs will only fall back to the backup WLC when the Primary unit failed.
    My question would be:
    1) Can I upgrade the Backup unit first, and move a few APs to the backup unit to make sure everything is working before I upgrade the Primary unit?
    Will that plan work fine?
    2) If my WLC is out of maintenance contract, can I still do this upgrade? Does it work like those VMware licensing, whereby I need the license to go from 4.x to 5.x?
    Thanks.

    1) Can I upgrade the Backup unit first, and move a few APs to the backup unit to make sure everything is working before I upgrade the Primary unit?
I've got a better idea for you.
    1.  Upload the new firmware to the two controllers.  DO NOT REBOOT the primary controllers when you are prompted.  You can reload the secondary controller.
    2.  Save the configuration.
    3.  On the WLC with all the APs, go to Wireless > Access Points > Global Configuration.  Scroll down to the bottom under the heading  "AP Image Pre-Download" and choose "Download Primary".
    4.  Go Monitor > All APs and click Details and scroll to the right-hand.  Look under "Download Status".  Wait until all the APs have their respective "Download Status" to DONE and then you reload the primary WLC.
What will happen is the APs will be loaded with the new IOS.  So the APs and WLC will reload simultaneously and cut your wireless outage to a bare minimum.

  • Safari keeps reloading

Still having problems with Safari reloading pages , mostly huffington, even after resetting, Any help?

This has been bothering me too, and I might have a possible fix for it.
I did some digging around, and I'm pretty sure this is happening because of a new feature in Safari 5 (more specifically, it's new to Webkit2) called "multi-process windows". You can read some info about it here, but the essential point is that Safari now runs on two separate processes -- one for the user interface (the "UI process"), and one for the content (the "web process"). If any page misbehaves, it can crash the web process, but instead of causing the entire application to quit (which is what would have happened in Safari 4 and earlier), Safari now just silently restarts the web process and then reloads all the tabs you had open.
That's great in theory, but for whatever reason, the web process seems to crash or hang quite often; I see Safari 5 suddenly reloading tabs far more frequently than outright crashes used to occur in earlier versions. The net effect is that this feature that's meant to make Safari more stable has so far caused a lot more problems than it has actually solved.
Anyway, if you enable the Debug menu in Safari (you can do this with TinkerTool or any of several other similar apps; note that this is not a hack, it's simply a hidden setting in Safari, so there should be no problem with me mentioning it here), there's an option in that menu called "Use multi-process windows". I haven't tested it yet (I don't have time at the moment), but disabling that option might stop this "spontaneously reloading tabs" nonsense from happening. I'll look into it later and post a blog entry if I can confirm that this solves the issue (in which case I'll come back and post a link to it in this thread).

  • Mail reloads and show old/deleted messages as new ones

I have a  MacBook Pro, 13-inch Retina, Late 2013. Current system is OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.
I have over a longer period of time experienced problem with my mail program. The application suddenly reloads old, both deleted and not deleted, messages as they were new once. This issue has been on older versions of Yosemite also. I use POP, and the mail is a hotmail account.
    Hope anyone can help.

    Hello,
I have the same problem but with my iphone 3gs. After the new upgrade to 5.0.1 I realized that all of my old text messages disappear after every new one I receive. I just spoke to an engineer at Apple support and he said he will be calling me back in a few days, once their team finds out what the underlying issue with the software is, that is causing this. As soon as I hear back I will post the outcome. Until then, I suggest you all call and make it apparent to the support line, because when I told them the issue I was having they had no idea, and said it was good that I brought it to heir attention otherwise they hadn't heard about such a situation until now. Hope tha helps :-)

  • Downgrade versions of WLC controller code.

    Hi All,
We have recently upgraded controller code to 7.3.101.0 from Version 7.0.116.0. after that users started reporting wirless disconnction issues.
we wanted to roolback to older code 7.0.116.0.
    But WLC shows....
    Primary images as 7.3.101.0
    Backup images as 7.2.110.0
We need some clarification to procees further...please help
Can we simply downgrade to 7.2.110.0 ? --- by setecting secondary code in WLC ... command -->Config boot --> by selecting seondary code.
    Is there any impact ?
or upload 7.0.116.0 code on WLC and reload of WLC will work ?
    Thanks
    Sri

    Sri,
First off... Did you upgrade the FUS image when you upgraded to 7.3? This FUS image is required when the WLC is upgraded to v7.2.x.
Also note that if you have 3602 AP's you need v7.2.x.
If you want to downgrade, just load the code you want and it will replace one of the code versions and I believe it will replace the secondary, but that doesn't matter. After you upload the code, then push that code to all the AP's. When that completes, interchange the image on the ap and verify that the ap image has the code you are going to as primary and then you can reboot the WLC.

  • ISR 4451-X reloading without crash logs

    Hi All,
I have recently had multiple reloads on two of our routers (ISR 4451-X) installed at different sites.
I can't find any crash logs after this sudden reload. It could be a crash of the Kernel which I believe do not produce any logs.
Has anyone encountered a similar crash on any of the IOS-XE platforms?
    Cheers
    Ashil

I recently experienced an unexplained reload on an ISR 4451-X. Anyone have any clues?
