  • Update SNMP to v3 on WLCs. Update also required on WCS?

    Hi all,
I need to update the SNMP version on our WLCs to v3, using MD5 and aes128.  This looks easy enough to do:
    Management > SNMP > SNMP v3 users > new
From here i can add a new user (ie SNMPV3) and set MD5 and aes128 passwords. I will update our monitoring software to match the SNMP version and credentils, and our monitoring of the WLCs will then run under SNMP v3.
However, we also use a WCS to manage the WLCs (we use templates for wireless key changes etc)
I suspect i will need to update the SNMP details on here too, PER WLC ?
Configure > Controllers > (IP of specific WLC) > Properties > SNMP Properties
Within here i believe i need to add the MATCHING SNMPv3 credentials that i added to the WLC in queston, presumably so the WCS can still talk to the WLC..?  Is this correct, or is there more than this that is required?
I also assume that any SNMP update on the WLCs and WCS will NOT impact the APs, because they chat to the WLCs via LWAPP and *not* SNMP...?
    Thoughts appreciated,
    Thanks in advance!

You are quite correct.  You will need to update the v3 user on the WCS per WLC.  And yes, it will not affect the AP.
    Cheers,
    Steve

  • WLC 5.2.193.0 with WCS 6.0.132.0 a supported config?

I know of a large site (not one of mine) that is running WLC 5.2.193.0 code paired up with WCS 6.0.132.0. The release notes for each product make no mention of support for this configuration.
    Is this is supported configuration?

Thanks to both of you who replied. I just need to ensure that Cisco will support this scenario. The larger site is actually a "parent" site, and we try to keep our configs in parallel, but I'm not going to put the smaller site into an unsupported configuration.
I found this document, updated September 1st, which still doesn't list WLC 5.2.193.0 and WCS 6.0.132.0 as a supported config:

  • MSE added to WCS, cannot assign services to controller

I have a 30 day trial license of WCS and have added my WLC controller and APs.
I installed the new MSE virtual appliance and added it to the WCS, it shows up fine however I see no services.
When I SSH to the MSE and do a /etc/init.d/msed status I see that the CAS is up and running!
However when I try to synchronize services and add mobility services to a controller CAS is greyed out and won't let me check it
Where should I go from here?

    Hello Pavel,
I can provide some background for what you've faced - it's on my blog to-do list, but hasn't come out yet to have helped you.
There was a change in the internals of User-UserGroup relationship handling between XI Release 2 and XI 3.x.
Previously, the relationship was exposed via the SI_GROUP_MEMBERS property for the UserGroup InfoObject, tied to the Users property in BIPlatform Web Services.
Now, the SI_GROUP_MEMBERS is read-only, listing all the members, but trying to change the value using getUsers() is ignored.
New properties (all properties named SI_ENT_* for both User and UserGroup, check the Query Builder for their names) have been defined for User and UserGroup InfoObjects, specifically for Enterprise authentication UserGroups.  This is to separate the handling of Enterprise UserGroups from those created for third-party authentication UserGroups (such as Windows AD user groups), such that you can add/remove memberships only for Enterprise UserGroups.
The Enterprise SDKs have been modified internally to make this change invisible when migrating from XI Release 2 -> XI 3.x.
However, since the BIPlatform Web Services work more directly with the InfoObject properties (via the BIAR API), it exposes the SI_ENT_* properties explicitly.
The gist is that, to affect User-UserGroup memberships, you have to use the getEnt*() methods for either User or UserGroup.

    Ted Ueda

  • Unable to generate heatmap on WCS

    Hi,
I have a WCS server running the version 6.0.170.0. I have already added few WLCs running the version 7.0  to this WCS. It is working fine. And now I have added two new controllers running the version 7.0.98.0 to the existing WCS server. When i add the floor layouts to the WCS and position the access points from the new controllers, the heat map is not generated automatically. Please let me know what could be the possible reasons for this?

  • Virtual WLC Ports Confusion -or- ADDING ports to the vWLC

I am a struggling with configuring a virtual wireless controller (vWLC).
I am working with the newest vWLC, 8.0.100.0
I currently own an elderly 2504 WLC with 4 ports. (four physical interfaces on the box)
On this 2504, I use one port for the management of the WLC and for WLC to communicate with the APs.
The APs are on the same network as the 2504. The other port is the interface that all my wireless traffic from the clients use.
Now with this vWLC, the virtual machine has two network interface, but once I get to a point that I am able to login to the vWLC, I only see one 'port'. According to this posting, I am suppose to take the service port and point it too a dummy virtual switch or a 'Black Hole' https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/12098556/vwlc-getting-started-key-points-and-common-issues.
Okay, I've done this and it works, but it not what I am accustomed to.
I enjoy having the web console of the WLC and the AP on separate networks from the wireless clients.
To complicate things my desire is for this new vWLC and my 2504 to work together.
I want over time to migrate APs from the 2504 to the vWLC without re-addressing them.
Can I add "ports" to my vWLC controller? Do I need to rethink my wireless infrastructure?
I am confused and am seeking your help, advice, suggestions, opinions and flames.

I think you need to re-look at your wireless design. I would prefer the 2504 over a vWLC, but that's me. I would not of separated the ports also on the WLC.  No real reason to, to be honest. Keep AP's on a seperate subnet and the traffic to and from the WLC is tunneled using capwap. Breaking up ports was an old design to be honest and that was also done back them with the 4400's. You have to also look at the pro's and con's of FlexConnect AP's vs local mode.  I never create an ap manager interface on the newer WLC's. I have always kept the dynamic ap manager in the managemt. Traffic is tunneled and you control user traffic when it leaves the WLC.

  • Unable to print added text only in Acrobat Pro XI

User is trying to print added text that's been added to an existing PDF page.  In Acrobat X she chose "Form fields only" under Comments & Forms from the Print menu.  In XI it produces a blank page.  The added text only shows up if she chooses Document or Document and Markups, but then she gets the entire document.  She only wants the added text to print.

Thanks to all who commented here.  I found that adding text using Tools>Content Editing>Add Text will not allow the user to print solely the added text.  As everyone responded here, that's as designed.  However, using Comment>Annotations>Add Text does allow the user to print solely the added text as she was used to doing in Acrobat X.  I thought it was the same tool under two different headings, but obviously they interact differently in the print menu.  Choosing Form fields only from the Print Menu's Comments & Forms panel will produce solely the text added under the Comment panel's Add Text tool without printing the rest of the document page.  And the user doesn't have to turn the document into a form to do so.

  • Adding Controller to WCS

I currently have a 4400 controller and I am looking at implementing WCS.  Will adding the controller to WCS change the controller settings? I don't want to take down my production network.

    Hi Mike,
Simply adding the WLC to WCS will not change any settings on the WLC itself.
Settings on the WLC can be changed afterwards through WCS with specific operations/configuration templates.

  • Rogue AP - Not in sync with WCS and WLC

    WCS - 7.0.164.0 and WLC - 7.0.98.0.
For some reason, I am seeing rogue ap alert on WLC and am not seeing on WCS.   How do I clean up database and sync with WCS and WLC.
I am seeing same thing with coverage holes.
    - Allen -

    Allen,
On the WLC go to Management > SNMP > Trap Controls, make sure that you have the traps checked.

  • How to sync AP names from WLC to WCS

when AP names are updated on a WLC, how to propagate the changes to the WCS? WCS still shows the AP names as MAC addresses instead of user-friendly names that were set on the WLC.

In 4.2.61 you go under the controller tab on the WCS and select the controllers that you would like to update. Select the drop down for 'Refresh config from controller' Select then select the delete tab on the following screen. This will take all the information from the WLC and move it to the WCS and delete any outdated information on the WCS. Hope this helps.

  • WCS WLC support

    Hi,
We are running version 4.2.62 of Cisco WCS.
I'd like to upgrade to 4.2.128.  We run version 4.2.209.0 on our WLCs.
The release notes for WCS version 4.2.128 does not list WLC version 4.2.209 as a supported version.
I would think it would be OK but can anyone confirm if this will actually work?
Also, is it worth upgrading the WCS to the more recent 7x versions?
    thanks.

    Hi,
The release notes mention with which version the WCS has been tested. So since 4.2.62 WCS came at the same time as 4.2.61 WLC it doesn't state it supports other 4.2 versions since it could not have been tested with those. However, since they are the same major release, all should be ok but you'll maybe face minor bugs here and there.
So just upgrade your WCS to the last 4.2 version of WCS and you'll be good to go :-)
    Regards,
    Nicolas

  • Question on migrating production WLCs to a new WCS

I'm working for a client that has probably 8 or 9 sites, each with a
4402 WLC. They're now talking about implementing a WCS. Is there a way
to add these production WLCs easily, or do we need to wipe their
configurations and add them to the WCS server as if they were new?
    Thanks!

You shouldnt have a problem but some things you want to keep in mind:
    1) Make sure the WCS license is enough to cover all the access points for all 8 - 9 sites
    2) Make sure the WLC can route to the the WCS server
You will not need to clear the configs of the WLCs. When you bring up WCS and add the controllers you can sync the controllers to WCS where WCS will learn the config of the controller...

  • WCS with 4402 WLC?

Is the WCS software necessary to manage a single 4402 WLC or is it just additional bells and whistles?
    Thanks - RV

    Hi Ron,
You do NOT need the WCS to manage the WLC. We are running 3 WLC 4402-25's without the WCS. The WCS does add some nice funtionality but it is not a must.
    Hope this helps!

  • Migrating WLC from existing WCS to another WCS

    Dear tecahers:
We support a campus with 8 WLC with 600 APs managed by our own WCS.
Recently we are going to support a new site. They have 4 WLC with about 250 APs managed by another WCS.
What we want to do is migrate 4 WLC with 250 APs from their WCS to our own WCS, thus we can use our own WCS to manage all the WLC and APs.
My question is How can we migrate these 4 WLC from the existing WCS to our own WCS with the configuration and maps?
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Regards,
    Steven

Do you have enough licenses on the new WCS for the additional access points you plan to add ? As for migration, I recall there arent any migration tools from wcs to wcs. I recall there being tools for WLSE to WCS. Depending on how many maps you have, it shouldnt take all that long to import maps and place aps.

  • Message on WCS/NCS: Attempted to use IP Address assigned to another device

    Hi
i have two WLCs AIR-CT5508-K9, monitored by WCS (in retiring stage) and NCS.
All APs are grouped in HREAP groups based on their locations. The wireless users are getting ip from a dhcp pool running on routers located at each site. All dhcp commands on every routers are the identical. Eg. rtr1, located on site 1 has ip pool for wifi users 192.168.8.0/24. Rtr2 on site 2 has a ip pool for wifi users in range 192.168.8.0/24. Occasionally i am getting bellow message when some wifi users are unable to connect. After creating a HREAP group and associating APs to correct group, this message stops showing for a while but now i am getting them again.
The temp solution to get it all running is to clear ip dhcp pool on router located at affected site.
Any suggestions for a better solution?
    Thanks

    endpoint,
You are locally switching your networks, yes, but even without HREAP and WLCs, they are still connected networks in your overall topology, correct? I would never have site A with a given network that overlaps with a network in site B. With few exceptions, they should be completely separate, unique, non-overlapping network spaces. HREAP doesn’t even come into it.
The problem you’re likely having is that the WLC is seeing clients coming in from two different sites and because you are duplicating your configurations from site to site, the WLC sees duplicate IP assignment.
That said, you can try to turn off client IP address learning on the WLAN Advanced tab to see if that helps.
