WLC8500 WLC - HA Failure Simulation

Hi
Just running some tests on the 8500 running 7.6.120.0, one of the test was to simulate the HA box failing, by removing the layer 2 connection and shutting down the interface.
The test  bed APs were on the primary box and with test clients active, running skype, youtube and cont pings.
When we failed the HA, the cont ping to the primary box carried on pinging but lost all conectivity on the live box.
Even when we reconneected the HA layer 2 connection and brought the interface back up, the primary box still wouldn't allow clients till it was rebooted.
Looking on http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/7-5/High_Availability_DG.html#pgfId-43710 , doesn't mention this scenario.
Any ideas?
thanks in advance

Hi Craig,
I'm not sure whether you are doing AP SSO or N+1 but I suspect that your problem is the 7.6.120.0 code. There are many issues with this code version and I would recommend upgrading to 7.6.130.0 as a start.

  • Automatically start VMs after server reboot

    Hello,
I use a OVM server (3.0.3) without clustering, and I'm doing failure simulations before going to production.
When the server reboots after a electrical failure, all VM are in "offline" state, and I need to acknowledge all events before be able to start them (thanks the forum for this information).
I would like to automatically boot the VM after the reboot, is there a way to do this ?
    Thanks,
    TM

Have you tried to put a symlink to the vm.cfg in /etc/xen/auto? That works independent of VM Manager. I beleive VM Manager will update the machine to running in that situation. If not, at least your machines are running while you sort out the problems with VM Manager.
    ln -s /OVS/Repository/<repositoryUUID>/VirtualMachines/<vmUUID>/vm.cfg /etc/xen/auto/<simplename>
Where repositoryUUID (hopefully the only one because the manager doesn't display it)
vmUUID shows as ID on the Info page for the VM
simplename is any name you like. I chose the name that shows as Name on the machine's Info page.
Let us know if the Manager figures it out OK or if you have to jump through some hoops to get it to show "running" for these VMs.

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Collection Failure for WLC 5508

    Hi,
We have installed prime infrastructure 2.0 as a VM.
I added 2 WLCs (AIR-CT5508) in the device work center.
Both the WLCs are showing as "Managed" but under the collection status it says "Collection Failure".
When I hover over the message it reads:
Other Error: Wireless Controller added successfully but some tables had their records dropped as their key fields failed validation"
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi Satyaki,
Try to reboot the WLC ,if possible and then check the status of the issue.

  • Simulation-failure captions won't display

The failure captions won't disply in a simulation, only the hint caption. I removed other interacitve buttons and it still doesn't work.

I've created a simple project that recreates this issue, with hopes that someone here or someone from the Captivate team can take a look and see if I'm missing something, or acknowledge as a bug.
    http://www.eternal-visions.com/FailureCap.cptx.zip
If you test the project, as is, the failure captions will not work.  If you uncheck the "remain on top" box of the smart shape button on slide 1.. failure caps return.  But, then the smart shape gets burried under other objects.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Disk Witness Failover with simulated network failure

    Hello everyone,
I am running two windows server 2012 R2 machines clustered with a disk witness.  The disk witness is a LUN created on our SAN, presented to both machines.  SAN is connected through two fiber channels per server both servers are networked on split
out network connections teamed together.  Now on a hard server fault or simulated power failure  (i.e. pulling the power cords from a server) Disk witness will fail over to second node and Cluster survives.  But, when simulating a Network card
failure (disconnecting the cat5) from the Node hosting the Disk witness, I see the cluster attempt to offload hosting to UP node.   But, the Disk witness will not come online.   I think that the issue is because the server is technically
still running and the disk Witness has not really failed on the primary host, so it never releases ownership.  I am new to clustering and could use a little guidance here.  Is there anyway to make the disk witness
    Thank you

    Hi,
Please try to modify network settings for a failover cluster
    1. In the Failover Cluster Manager snap-in, if the cluster that you want to configure is not displayed, in the console tree, right-click Failover Cluster Manager, click Manage
a Cluster, and then select or specify the cluster that you want.
    2. If the console tree is collapsed, expand the tree under the cluster that you want to configure.
    3. Expand Networks.
    4. Right-click the network that you want to modify settings for, and then click Properties.
    5. If needed, change the name of the network.
    6. Select one of the following options:
-Allow cluster network communication on this network
If you select this option and you want the network to be used by the nodes only (not clients), clear Allow clients to connect through this network. Otherwise, make sure it
    is selected.
-Do not allow cluster network communication on this network
Select this option if you are using a network only for iSCSI (communication with storage) or only for backup. (These are among the most common reasons for
    selecting this option.)

Did you use the AXI4 interface for the block memory generator IP?
This kind of failure is typically seen when master and slave AXI are not initialized. e.g. when the slave TVALID and TDATA are in an 'U' or 'X' state.
You need to firstly examine the testbench (or the AXI bus drivers) and ensure they're all initialized.
    For instance,
      -- Data slave channel signals
      signal s_axis_data_tvalid              : std_logic := '0';  -- payload is valid
      signal s_axis_data_tready              : std_logic := '1';  -- slave is ready
      signal s_axis_data_tdata               : std_logic_vector(15 downto 0) := (others => '0');  -- data payload
      -- Data master channel signals
      signal m_axis_data_tvalid              : std_logic := '0';  -- payload is valid
      signal m_axis_data_tdata               : std_logic_vector(23 downto 0) := (others => '0');  -- data payload

  • CPI1.3: WLC Configuration Archive - Failure

    Good day, everybody!
I try to make Configuration Archive for Wireless Lan Controller. WLC managed without any mistaces, SNMP v3 and SSH v2 have already configured.
But, when I start Configuration Archive task and check Status in Jobs Dashboard - I always have Failure, like this:
Does anybody know why I can't normally save configuration? Thanks for advices!

In the Jobs Dashboard I choose Configuration Archive Results - Failure and see Fetch Running information:
SNMP: Failed to establish SNMP connection to 10.0.10.101 - Cause: Device is Unreachable. Check the ReadOnly community string. SNMP: Failed to establish SNMP connection to 10.0.10.101 - Cause: Device is Unreachable. Check the ReadOnly community string.
But I don't understand, why Check the ReadOnly community string? I use SNMP v3!
For example, I've successfully got Configuration Archive from c3560G by using same SNMP v3 and SSH parametres.
    Does anybody have ideas?

  • Cp6 - Building assessment type simulations - failure caption occurs too soon!

Greetings and happy day before the end of the world.
Assuming that life will exist (in its current form) after Friday, I've got a job to do so, here is my question.
I am building assessment simulations and I am wondering if there is an easy way to either default or change the number of guesses the learner can make *before* they see the failure caption.
Currently the default in Captivate 5.5 (simulations are recorded in version 5.5 and then published in version 6) is that the failure caption appears immediately after the learner clicks on the incorrect area.
Can this be changed so that the learner is able to click twice before they see the failure caption?
The hint caption is useless because it only appears when the learner hovers over the correct location. Is there something I am missing? But remember, time is money, so the effort to make this change, either during the recording (as a default change) or in post editing must be simple and quick, otherwise it isn't worth it.
    Thank you
.... hmm, I think everyone is on holidays. :-) Stay safe and happy all!

  • WLC 5508 HA SSO configuration failure

I've just replaced an older 5508 with two new 5508 controllers that we wanted to run in redundancy mode.  I've followed the directions here: to configure my units.  at this time i have my management, and redundancy management IP addresses configured in the same vlan on both units, also the service port addresses are in the same vlan, and the virtual interface is the same on both units.  I setup the mirrored reference in the redundancy global configuration for redundancy mgmt IP and Peer redundancy mgmt IP on both units.  I have designated the primary and the secondary units.  after doing all of this i connected (with a patch cable) the RP ports on both units.  On either unit i enable the SSO option and get the following message:
"Please configure Redundancy Management VLAN before enabling redundancy"
Clicking OK on this disables the option and returns me to the redundancy global configuration page.  I have searched all over and have been unable to find a working resolution for this problem.  I'm not finding much reference to this at all actually.
    Thanks in advance.
    Beer

I read that but i'm confused as to what it actually means.  I have no redundancy VLAN unless it refers to the network created by the two service port IP addresses.  the devices are setup back to back, and only connect through the RP ports on each device.  here are the steps i took in setting this up.  before taking these steps the primary unit was configured and fully operational and the secondary only had a management ip address on it.  (I expected the secondary to sync it's configuration from the primary so did not set anything up further than needed for connectivity.)
Log into both controllers using their web interfaces
    Navigate Controller > Interfaces
Set the Management IP addressBoth units must have the management addresses within the same VLAN
Set the redundancy-management IP addressBoth units must have the redundancy management address  in the same VLAN as the management interfaces
Set the Service-port Ip addressBoth units should be setup so their service ports are in the same VLAN
Set the virtual port IP addressThis should be the same on both units.
Navigate to Controller > redundancy > Global configuration
Verify the redundancy mgmt IP is prepopulated with the IP address from the redundancy-Management interface
Set the Peer redundancy mgmt IPThis is the redundancy management IP Address form the opposing WLC
On the primary unit set the redundant unit to Primary
On the secondary unit set the redundant unit to secondary
    Click apply on both units
Verify physical connection is in place between the RP ports on both WLC units
Set the SSO option to Enable and click Apply on both units, starting with the primary unitThis will trigger a reboot on each unit after clicking apply.  The redundancy configuration setup will cause both units to reboot 2-3 times as the configuration is synced from the primary unit to the secondary unit
Did I somehow miss a critical step in this process?

  • Failure to synchronize simulated PXI 5124 cards, but they synchronize without error on physical hardware.

I need to create a software development machine based on our existing experimental machine. We use two PXI 5124 cards mounted in a PXI 1042 Chassis and run LabVIEW 2013.
According to what google has returned, it is currently impossible to simulate a PXI Chassis, so I have the two devices mounted individually. Here is the experimental machine device list:
and here are the simulated devices on my development machine.
I have verified that the simulated devices are working by creating a simple program that graphs the output of the simulated devices. See attached.
However, when I run the program that we use on our experimental machine, the program fails to synchronize the clocks. I'm not sure if I would be allowed to post this program, so I have merely attached a picture of the part that creates an error.
Up to this point, there are no errors, but when synchronization begins, I receive the following error:
Error -250027 occurred at niTClk Configure For Homogeneous Triggers.vi:2010001
    Possible reason(s):
NI-TClk does not support the specified session.
Make sure that the sessions you pass to NI-TClk are supported by NI-TClk.
Session index (starts at zero): 0
Using probes, I can determine that there are (seemingly) valid resource names [9] going into the Configure VI:
These are not fundamentally different from the resource names [2] on our experimental machine:
According to this page I should be able to synchronize. While no longer in the same chassis, the two devices are still in the "same computer," are they not? Nevertheless, the error message makes me think I'm trying to do something that isn't allowed.
I've tried to look at other posts, but they are mainly concerned with FGEN, which I am not using.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,
By default, arbitrary waveform generators use High-Resolution Clocking to generate a waveform if the sampling rate that you choose is not an exact integer division of the maximum frequency of function generator. When High-Resolution Clocking is used, the sampling rate you specify can actually be coerced to a slightly different value than specified.
The problem with this is that if your specified sample rate is coerced into a non interger it will not be evenly divisible into other frequencies. When synchronizing multiple devices using NI-TClk, the algorithm will attempt to choose a TClk frequency that all sampling rates can be divided into evenly. Having an actual sampling rate that has been coerced into a non devisable value throws off the NI-TClk algorithm resulting in error -250016.
Could you try to disable High-Resolution Clocking and use Divide-Down Clocking instead. You can do this in LabVIEW using the Clock Mode property of the niFgen Property Node, and setting the value to NIFGEN_VAL_DIVIDE_DOWN.
Please let me know if this helps.
