WLCS 3.2 & WLS 6.0
Does Weblogic Commerce & Personalization run on top of Weblogic Server 6.0 ?
Hi Olivier,
WLC/PS 3.2 only works with WLS 5.1 and JDK 1.3.

WLS 6.0 & WLCS 3.2 & interop between 5.1 & 6.0
Hi,
Apparently, WLCS 3.2 will support WLS 6.0 in spring (cf various posts). We
are currently using WLS 5.1 for
EJB dev & WLCS for JSP dev but wanted to migrate our EJB dev to WLS 6.0. Not
possible !!! We thought of
having two servers one for running WLCS 3.2 (5.1) and one for our EJB (6.0).
Here it's a JNDI problem that
make the thing impossible (no interop between 5.1 and 6.0).
I find unacceptable that BEA delivers a new version of their server without
upgrading at the same time all
other applications running on top of that server (WLCS & WLPI). I find a lot
more unacceptable the non interop between 5.1 and 6.0 !!!
I evently tried to migrate WLCS 3.2 to WLS 6.0 (after all that should be
possible as it's possible to migrate 5.1
applications to 6.0) but got so many errors with EJB deployment that I will
stop.
Did anybody reach the same problem, did anybody succeed in migrating WLCS
3.2 to WLS 6.0 ?
Could BEA deliver a compatible version of WLCS 3.2 before "Spring" !!!! ?
Thanks for any ideas,
OlivierHello Olivier,
I am sorry that you are so frustrated by the lag between the WLS 6.0 release
and WLCS certification on WLS 6.0. It is a large task and we want to do a
thorough job to ensure the quality of our WLCS product.
This spring we plan to release a top-quality personalization and commerce
server that runs on the best application server in the world, just like we did
with WLCS 3.2 on WLS 5.1 in December. I am confident in the technical
superiority of WLCS over other personalization and commerce servers and I can
assure you that our team puts a high priority on WLS 6.0 certification.
If you have any problems using our products do not hesitate to contact our
support team at http://www.bea.com/support/index.jsp . If you are not
satisfied with any technical aspect of our product or our support, let me know.

Might be a configuration error. Could you tell me which version, including
service-pack level, of WLCS/WLPS and WLS that you are running? sp2 for WLCS
3.5 removes console.war from your WLCS installation. That is because WLCS 3.5
sp2 is the port from WLS 6.0 to WLS 6.1. In WLS 6.1, there is no console
application because it became internal.

Can anybody help?
Laura :-)Thanks for your help - everything fine with Oracle 8.1.7 - I had indeed not
loaded the data under the correct user. Now feel really quite positive -
what a success for first thing on a Monday morning! Placeholders etc all
loaded and displaying fine. Thanks again, Laura

Laura,
Did you re-apply the DDL scripts after you switched to the new DB? Itlooks
like the User tables (used by the security realm) are missing.
Sincerely,

Can you upgrade your Oracle database from 8.1.6.0.0 to
8.1.7 or the latest 8.1.6.3 patchset (I believe that would be
8.1.6.3.5)
and see
if this resolves the problem with loadsampledata? I suspect that it
will
due
to our usage of CLOB datatypes.
Also, any chance that your Oracle Client and Oracle Database are ofdifferent
release levels, or are they both running on the same box? -

JDBC issue when accessing an Entity Bean
Hi,
WLCS 3.1
WLS 5.1 sp6
Windows NT
Oracle 8.1.6
I am having problems with an Entity bean, I have originaly deployed and had it
running on cloudscape. I decided I need to deploy it to Oracle 8.1.6, on startup
of WLCS the bean was deployed to the connection pool correctly using Weblogic
JDriver.
The bit I cannot understand is when I try and do a FindByPrimaryKey on the Entity
Bean the following exception is thrown by oracle, which leads me to believe this
must be an Oracle/Jdbc problem.
Here you can see that the bean has been deployed on a valid connection pool.
Tue Sep 18 15:47:39 GMT+03:00 2001:<I> <EJB JAR deployment /export/home/mccann/tester2.jar>
EJB home interface: 'com.testerHome' deployed bound to the JNDI name
: 'tester'
Heres the exception raised when a findByPrimaryKey is invoked on the bean....

Any help here would be great, this is annoying problem because the Entity bean
deploys fine and no issues are raised at startup time, so the table must of existed
and the structure must of been correct. But minutes after the server started I
ran my client which tried to invoke this bean with the above exception.
Thanks
Wayne.Hi Wayne,
I'd recommend you installing of latest SP for WL plus installing of Oracle
8.1.7 thing driver.

Using WLS 6.1 and WLCS 3.5
We are looking to migrate a WLS 5.1 Sp8 and WLCS 3.2 environment to a later
release.
We are only using the Personalization components of WLCS. Has anyone used
the combination of WLS6.1 and WLCS 3.5, yet? What sort of problems are you
seeing? What sort of personalization problems are you seeing?
I know that WLCS 3.5 is only certified for WLS 6.0 sp2. My reason for
pushing WLS 6.1..
We have built an application that uses a lot of XML including XALAN-j 2.1.0,
(xalan.jar, xalanj1compat.jar, xerces.jar, xml.jar, xmlservlet.jar and
xsltc.jar). To get this working on WLS 5.1 SP8 with WLCS 3.2 was quite a lot
of work. In fact it only works if the WebLogic classpath is in a very
particular order. My initial read of WLS 6.1 would suggest that it includes
the XALAN features that we use. My concern with WLS 6.0 is that I may be
unable to get XALAN 2.1.0 working with it.
Let me know your experience,
Thanks

I have added content to the exampleportal from my web application. My
content shows up and works as expected. The only problem is that after I
login, and I want to personalize the content, the buttons (Add/Remove,
Change Layout ....) for changing the portal give the following error:
Invalid page access -- please access any portal content through the portal
URL.
The only one that works properly is the login/logout button. Any ideas as
to what would be giving me this invalid page access?
thanks
shaneHi Olivier,
WLC/PS 3.2 only works with WLS 5.1 and JDK 1.3.

Eric,
Sometimes WLS/WLCS can be very picky about the order of items in the
class
path. Check and make sure the sp1 jar is the first item in your path
order.
Let me know if you are still struggling...

using sp1 on wlcs 2.0, instead of 2.0.1. I was given the wrong version of
the wlcs by bea. but, I downloaded it off the website and all is well.

Login changes from WLCS 3.2 vs WLCS 3.5
I am upgrading my current prototype using WLCS3.2 to 3.5. I use the
exampleportal demo and plug in a few JSP's from my web application.
In 3.2, after you enter your login information the request object that all
portlets have access to contains 3 parameters: loginAction, username and
password. I use this information in order to log into my application which
allows me to have a single signon.
In 3.5, things have changed and the only parameter that I have access to
through the request object is 'dest' which has the path to
/something/loginSuccess.jsp. How do I now get access to login information
from the portal similar to what was available to me in 3.2?
thank you
shanePeter,
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll let you know how I make out.
thanks

Shane,
Excellent question. Let me point you to some reading:
1. There is a brand new security guide for 3.5 athttp://edocs.bea.com/wlcs/docs35/secguide/index.htm
>
2. Read the Security chapter of the Servlet 2.2 spec, found athttp://java.sun.com/products/servlet/index.html

Realize that the 3.2 portal's implementation of the security mechanismpredated
the standard J2EE declarative security model. The 3.5 release of portalreimplemented
security to adhere to the standard. So the missing attributes is aside-effect
of this change.
In 3.2, the portal was responsible for doing its own user authentication. Therefore
the username and password was available to the portal code. In 3.5, theservlet
container (WLS) performs the authentication on behalf of the portal. Asyou see
in the Servlet spec, the methods available to a servlet afterauthentication allow
you to get the username via request.getUserPrincipal(). But there is nostandard
way to get the password. So if you require the password to propagate theidentity
to another application, you are out of luck.
All is not lost though. I can think of three avenues for you.
1. Reread section 11.6 of the Servlet 2.2 spec. It declares that thecontainer
must maintain authentication at the container-scope, and not the web-appscope.
Know that the portal is deployed as a webapp. If your secondaryapplication can
be deployed as a J2EE web-app on the same server, authentication can bemaintained
across web-apps.
2. If you cannot deploy your app as a web-app, there is still anotheroption.
WLS supports an "Authentication Filter" which is invoked both immediatelyprior
and immediately after the j_security_check authentication mechanism. Thisallows
you to provide a callback which accepts the HttpRequest. Therefore, youshould
be able to stash the j_password into the Session before WLS clears it outof the
Request. I don't have time to try this today, but if you do please postyour results!
Read here for more info on the AuthFilterhttp://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs60//javadocs/weblogic/servlet/security/AuthFil
ter.html

3. If the above options don't work for you, you may wish to implement acustom
WLS security realm which will provide passwords for users upon request.
Post back to the newsgroup with your thoughts/results.
