  • Need to convert a long into a string, please

    hi there
i need to convert a long into a string. can i just cast it like this:
    (String)longNumber = some function that returns a long;

Why not just use Long.toString()? If you start with a long value, you can create a Long object and get it's value as a String.

  • Can no longer see projects in library viewer in imovie '08 and need to find a different apple editing program

Can no longer see projects in library viewer in imovie ’08 and need to find a different apple editing program
I had approximately 15 projects that I can no longer see in imovie. I have read almost every thread on this community for imovie regarding error messages associated with looking for clips. In each case I have rebuilt the project.  However, today I continually received a message to search for a .dv file. I have located the file and even changed the .dv file to .mov file and yet none of my projects will appear. I have rebooted, deleted the plist and nothing works.
I was planning on buying a new Mac in 2014 with new editing, and use my old Mac as a backup for imovie files. Very frustrated that I can’t work with any projects now! I se the files in my Movies/imovies/iprojects folder but they don’t appear in the viewer.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get back my projects into the viewer? Or, can someone recommend a basic program compatible with imovie 08 that I can use to import my exiting projects into?

No, Wasn't sure if I could continue to upgrade to 9.0.9 since my Mac is relatively old.
Just don't understand why I have to keep starting a project over and over again. As I type this, the imovie icon is jumping and asking for "clip 135-02-05-05;27:15" cannot be found. Without this file, the movie cannot play properly."  I have located this clip and pointed imovie to the clip, and nothing happens. I even try to locate the corresponding clip in the event viewer but it is not there.
Today is the first time I have not been able to see my projects in the viewer.

  • My long-term Goal

Iam a java beginer, just I can develop simple java applications.
But I want to be an expert JSP web developer .
What are the things that I should do, the techniques that I should study and what are the short-tearm goals that I should achieve to accomplish my long-term goal . What the time and the experiences that are needed to achieve my goal?

Write your goal down and yes a technical architect would be the correct goal to achive as a java developer. Then write down what price you will have to pay to achive it. I'm working towards that same goal myself and I asked the people that had already achieved what I was trying to do and then I wrote what they said down as my plan.
Basically, it's as follows and it's the same in any profession:
1.) Pick something you enjoy doing. I assume you like programming as more than a job. If you don't do this, you won't be able to get through the inevitable problems and frustrations that occur in the daily work.
2.) Put in extra time everyday towards your goal. It could be learning a new technology like Hibernate or Ajax or whatever. Set goals to achive certifications or accomplishments at work. 40 hours a week is for survival, anything over that puts you on the side of the angels. The top java devs put in an extra 2-3 hours of self-study daily. They don't quit this after 6 months either.
    3.)Don't quit on your plan.
4.)I don't like to set timelines for this, but I would think in 3 to 5 years you will be at the technical architect level.

  • Need to output sound in CVI project through sound card

I've been adding a software mod to one of our long standing projects, that involves sound output. Certain pieces of our kit require orientating in a certain way before they can be calibrated, but due to them also being adversely affected by magnetic fields and large lumps of ferrous metal, they are often positioned well away from whereever the PC is that is being used to calibrate them. I've come up with a solution that involves a series of beeps transmitted via walkie talkie, a bit like sonar pings, that can be used to determine when the kit is within tolerance of its required position. Unfortunately whilst developing I hadnt realised that the StartPCSound / StopPCSound only worked on the internal speaker, as I develop on a laptop where all the sound comes through the same speakers. However now I would like to be able to output this sound through external speakers, so can no longer use this functionality - shame as its very easy to use.
So firstly, I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway - is there anything already in LabWindows CVI that would allow me to do the same sort of thing as StartPCSound - I'm not after glorious sound quality - a square wave will be just fine!
Secondly, has anyone come across any easily configurable .NET or C++ libraries that would allow me to do something similar, and if so can you share you experiences and if possibly some code examples to get me started.
    Regards
    Gavin Summers

I had looked at playing wav files as an option. However I'd need a few. My post originally was a bit misleading as sonar pings are all the same frequency, but closer or further apart. My original solution keeps the pings the same distance apart, but varies the pitch, so as you get closer to the desired alignment, the pings get higher in pitch. When the desired alignment is reached you get a two tones one after another.
However having said that the way you've suggested isn't actually a bad idea, and I certainly could make use of it. Record two tones, use one played at differing frequencies depending on how close to required position I am, and then the other continuously when within acceptable range. I'll check wav playing out as an alternative option.
    Cheers

  • Ask the Expert: Demystifying Long-Term Evolution

With Rahul Pal, Arpit Menaria and Krishna Kishore
Welcome to this Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about evolution of long-term evolution (LTE) and the future with experts Rahul Pal, Krishna Kishore, and Arpit Menaria.
LTE, commonly marketed as 4G LTE, is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals. It is based on the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA network technologies, increasing the capacity and speed using a different radio interface together with core network improvements. The standard is developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
Rahul Pal is a customer support engineer based in Bangalore, India. He has seven years of experience in the field of GPRS/UMTS/LTE technologies specializing in R&D and customer support. Rahul has worked with multiple vendors such as Nortel, NSN, and now Cisco, gaining expertise in packet core products such as SGSN and MME. Rahul has also worked as an escalation engineer handling customer escalations (technical troubleshooting and handling customer management). Rahul also has international experience of working directly with telco customers in the United States, Europe, and APAC and holds an engineering degree in information technology.
Krishna Kishore is currently working as a customer support engineer based in Bangalore, India, focusing on ASR5000/ASR5500, SAMI, and HWIC products providing support to 3G/4G mobility solutions deployed across the world. He has more than eight years of experience in mobility technologies such as GPRS/UMTS/LTE/CDMA, with experience in development and customer support. Krishna has worked with multiple vendor platforms such as Nortel, Hitachi, NSN, and Cisco. He holds a bachelor's degree in electrical and electronics engineering and CCNA certification.
Arpit Menaria  is a customer support engineer based in Bangalore, India. He has been with the Cisco TAC for the past two and a half years (since July 2013) and has worked in FTS and TAC roles. Throughout his seven and half years of industry experience, he's worked for Ericsson and Tata Communications getting exposed to the telecom and Internet service provider environment. His technical skills span mobility, routing, switching, Linux, and Solaris. He has CCIE certification in routing and switching (written), RHCE, and WWSP mobility expert (written). Challenges Faced by operators while deploying LTE Solutions
1.) No Global standards in LTE Spectrum Bands allocation and usage
Operators have to support  range of spectrum bands to  support. A lower spectrum band (e.g. 1800MHz) provides better indoor  signal strength and travels further compared to one of a higher spectrum  band (e.g. 2600MHz). However, the higher spectrum bands are better  suited for covering densely-populated areas and managing heavy data  volumes due to their larger bandwidth. lower frequency spectrums are  more affordable to build and signals travel further, whereas higher  frequency spectrums require a lot of base stations to cover a similar  distance. This could very well be another possible reason why different  Operators around the world use different spectrum bands, besides the  obvious fact that they are also limited by the availability of these  bands.
2.) Building a New or Converged Network and Backward compatibility with Legacy Networks:
Some Operators  will build a completely new 4G network  along the existing networks. Other Operators will create a converged  network, where they try to make the different generations of  technologies work together.  In both cases, the process is highly  complex and cost intensive. The transition to 4G network will require  new radio access technology and core network expansion, while  maintaining existing 2G/3G networks alongside the new 4G network will  result in additional burden on Operators.
LTE  is flat IP architecture so there is a need to create high capacity IP  core network to connect MME(mobility management entity) ,S-GW,P-GW.  All  the interworking nodes including non- 3GPP systems is to be  re-dimensioned. Backward compatibility is a very complex task during LTE  deployment.
3.) Return on Investment (ROI) on 4G LTE
The migration to LTE or upgrading of existing mobile  networks will incur high costs. Moreover, 4G LTE is expected to disrupt  the traditional business models of Operators: voice calls and SMS. On  LTE, we still don’t have Voice call Support and Proposed launch of VoLTE  is still not widely deployed and in testing phases at many places.
With faster mobile data connectivity, consumers will be more inclined  to use services and apps such as Skype and Whatsapp for communication.  This change in consumer's usage behaviour will pose a challenge for  Operators to profit from their investments in 4G networks.
4.) Operators have to devise new Data plans
To justify the investments in the new 4G networks, Operators have to change their data price models.
First, Operators will charge higher prices for their LTE offerings  compared to their existing mobile data plans and maintain a higher  quality of service to justify the higher Pricings.
Second,.  They should implement "pay-for-what-you-use" pricing models, where  consumers are charged based on their usage behaviors.
Third, Operators can adopt a value-based pricing model  where consumers can pay a premium for a better experience, raising the  possibility of introducing tiered service levels that guarantee certain  connection speeds.
Biggest problem  is customer cannot relate to all data plans and  have to constantly monitor data usage to ensure that they receive high  data speeds.
5.) Security Concerns from Untrusted Domains
While operators can theoretically benefit from reduced  latency and greater ease of management within the LTE architecture,  there is a very real possibility that overall LTE performance will  degrade due to the high volume of transactions required to ensure that  high levels of service quality are maintained and proper policy control  decisions are implemented. Operators face significant challenges in the  area of network security as traffic in emerging architectures is  increasingly likely to flow within spheres of "trusted" and "untrusted"  networks. framework allows operators to handle security gateway  functionality.
Within the LTE network elements, including the ability  to implement IPsec — the IP network security standard. Operators facing  this new, unfamiliar environment face a key choice: whether to rely on  the functionality provided within the standards-defined LTE network  elements to address security and other requirements or whether to adopt  standalone solutions. Cash-Strapped Operators might Opt for LTE  solutions as they need not invest separately in Security Devices and  functions.
6.) True 4G Global Roaming is not possible unlike 3G
Due  to the lack of harmonization of LTE spectrum bands across different  countries, it is almost impossible within the near future to support LTE  global roaming.
To  use a LTE device for data roaming, based on the current worldwide  spectrum usage, the device needs to support at least 15 bands.  Supporting so many band on LTE handset is not possible. So 3G data  roaming for international traveler is here to stay for very long time  still we standardize LTE Spectrum Bands Globally

  • Need help in exporting my FCP project to work on my laptop

I'm taking a long trip and I'd like to export all that's needed to work on my FCP project from my PowerMac G5 to my Powerbook Pro. I could really use some advice on this.
    1. It's most likely that all of my files will not fit on the Powerbook hard drive (half is devoted to Windows). I know there are issues with importing footage to a firewire drive, but what if my footage is already imported? Can I get a tiny firewire external drive and move all my video files to work with? Or will I still be at a risk of dropped frames or other problems? Can I even get a USB drive for this? WD makes a great tiny one. I've got a huge Maxtor firewire drive, but I need one that is portable and doesn't need external power. Any recommendations? Is this just a stupid question and there's no way this is possible?
    2. Will I run into a problem of installing my Final Cut Studio on my Powerbook Pro since it's already installed on my PowerMac? I guess if I absolutely had to, I could uninstall FCP from my Powermac, then install it on my Powerbook, then uninstall it from my powerbook when i'm done with my trip, then reinstall it on my PowerMac. But it'd be much simpler if I could just install it on my Powerbook and leave the already installed version on my PowerMac alone.
I'd love some advice with this. Thanks!

I'm taking a long trip and I'd like to export all
that's needed to work on my FCP project from my
PowerMac G5 to my Powerbook Pro. I could really use
    some advice on this.
First, do you mean Macbook Pro? Also what version of FCP are you running? If you have a Macbook Pro then you must have FCP 5.1 in order for it to run on your notebook.
    1. It's most likely that all of my files will not fit

You are correct in assuming that you need not put your media files on your system drive. Get a small Firewire drive that is bus powered, I recommend on from G-Technologies, maker of the G-Raid.
    2. Will I run into a problem of installing my Final
Cut Studio on my Powerbook Pro since it's already
installed on my PowerMac? I guess if I absolutely had

This depends on what version you are using. I believe that you can have 5.1 installed on both a desktop and notebook with one license. However, be sure to check the license that came with your software just to be sure. If you do not have 5.1 (and you don't have a MBP but instead a Powerbook (not Pro) then you will have to uninstall and reinstall.
Once you have these issues worked out it is a matter of transferring your project files to your new FW drive.

We have a GL account (GL111) created for Long term accounts. this is a reconciliation account for customer. However, we have another GL account (GL222) assigned to our customer group this account is being invoiced for some expenses. Because of this we cannot assing GL111 to customer master data.
We need to post in the same customer expense and loans. How can we create a new special gl indicator that will allow the posting from GL222 to GL111?
Any inputs are very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

  • Need help on viability of a project

    Hi all
I'm looking for a profissional point of view for the project I'm developing
I need to create an Applet that uses a DLL from the server to communicate with a machine connected to the serial port, and there will be plenty of this Applets running at once at different locations.
I would appreciate any comment about the viability of this project.

Yes you'll do better with 512MB of GDDR3 memory (for graphic manipulation) but you won't notice a great deal of difference between 2.4 GHZ and 2.66GHZ in the CPU speed. Selecting the 7200 rpm drive option is a good idea but what could make the biggest impact of all is to install the maximum amount of RAM you can afford. 4GB kits (2x2GB) are relatively cheap and will speed up your work. e.g.

    hello all,
i am quite new to JSP.
as part of my MS course work i am building a OnLine Bidding system or an Auction system.
hope u all might have seen sites like. yahooauctions and ubid.com..
i want to know wether it is easy to do with JSP or completely use Servlets. if some one has sample code regarding this type of applications. And any sample code for creating SessionObjects thru JSP.
please send it to [email protected] the subject which i posted regarding jdbc-odbc connection is also for this.

I want to develop a Smart Card for student as mention
    in the link
    http://java.sun.com/products/javacard/examples.html
Well then you have a number of points that can be solved very differently. Does exist any legacy hardware or software that need to be included into your project?
    1. when student insert the card in card accepantance
device in entrance of the university all
    information(Name, ID,Photo, Department.....) will be
displayed in the monitor of the entrance. After see
the pic get keeper have no confusion about the
student.Where do you want do store the student information? On card or in a centralised database? Who should be able to change information?
    2. Student can also use this card to use the
facilities of Library and Cafe.Looks like money comes into play. "Stealing money" is always a good impulsion for any attacker. You should consider this in your system design.
    1. What kind of hardware i need to complete the
project and successfully deploy it to my university.Sorry, but except for the hardware parts "chipcard terminal" (with or without pin-pad) and several smartcards I can give you only the answer: "That depends on what you want to achieve and how you want to do it"
    2. What kind of Smart Card I have to use exactly. If you want to store the student image on the card, on of your main requirements would be a smartcard that has enough EEPROM for storing the image. Common JavaCards have 10 to 30kb for data and the applet code.

  • Long-term  retention backup strategy for Oracle 10g

    Hello,
I need design a Archivelog, Level 0 and Level 1 long-term retention backup strategy for Oracle 10g, It must be based in Rman with tapes.
¿Somebody could tell me what it's the best option to configure long-term retention backups in Oracle?, "CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 1825 DAYS;" It's posibble ?
    Regards and thanks in advance

    Hello;
RECOVERY WINDOW is an integer so yes its possible. Does it make sense?
Later My bad, this is Oracle 11 only ( the gavinsoorma link ) . Getting harder and harder to think about 10. Don't think I would use RECOVERY WINDOW.
I would let the tape backup system handle the retention of your rman backups.
Using crosscheck and delete expired commands you can keep the catalog current with the available backups on tape.
    Oracle 10

    Oracle 11
If you want to keep 5 years worth of backups I might just use KEEP specific date using the UNTIL TIME clause :
keep until time 'sysdate+1825'More info :

  • Long term: Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard

    Hi,
Had to have new hard drive installed a few days ago. System was "upgraded" to Mountain Lion. I had a backup from TimeMachine but for whatever reason, when configuring hard drive it would not see my external hard drive so I had to restore applications manually (read one by one) after "blank canvas" configuration. Now I find out all my powerpc-based applications wont work because Apple has not renewed licensing for Rosetta (info gathered from Communities). My powerpc applications are Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Microsoft Office 2011, turboCad, etc.
I found out I have two options:
    1) Erase hard drive and Restore from TimeMachine to previous hard drive contents from 10 days ago, which run on Snow Leopard (which I had downloaded, so no disks). Will this work?
    2) Install Parallels 7 or VM firmware, and somehow install Snow Leopard there and run my powerpc applications from there. How to do this I have no idea...
    Long term:
If Apple will never restore Rosetta or powerpc capabilities, should I go with option 2 and get on with the "new world"? I'm not too technically savvy and not sure how I can do this on my own... so would need to go see the Geniuses for this, I guess...  But I'm not sure what the advantages of Mountain Lion are! So far, I dont see much, and I am not sure I would know how to maintain a "Parallel PC universe" without doubling everything.
Since I'm not sure of any advantages to Mountain Lion, I should maybe go back to my Snow Leopard version, then? but I am not sure how, exactly, without loosing everything once more.
Of course, if someone knows there are powerpc capabilities for Mountain Lion in the future, then I am all set, right? Does anyone know how Apple or Microsoft plan to "help" us poor souls who choose Mountain Lion without being aware of these issues?
(note: I have moved three times in the past two years and cannot get my hands on my iWorks CDs or my Microsoft Office 2011 CDs)
    Any recommendations?

Dropping Rosetta was a technical decision. As stated, Apple has traditionally only supported it's current and last OS versions.
There are tons of advantages to updating to Mountain Lion, assuming your hardware supports it. Look HERE for details and HERE for hardware compatibility and instructions on how to upgrade properly.
Alansky is correct that this is not new news as well. He also is correct in saying that Rosetta will never again be supported. If I remember correctly, the last PowerPC version of Photoshop is CS2 released in 2005. That's 7 years and 4 major releases ago. Sorry to say, but it is time to bit the bullet, move to Mountain Lion and update your legacy software.
I am using Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 and it runs fine on Mountain Lion 10.8.
You can certainly install and run Snow Leopard in a Parallels partition but I don't recommend it. Take a look HERE for details.
Not having your Office install disks sounds suspicious but we'll assume that you have a legal copy. In that case, you should be abe to contact Microsoft HERE for assistance in retrieving your product key and getting a download link.
