WLPI 1.2 with WebLogic 6.0 sp1

Is the configuration supported yet?
If not when is the expected date for such a support?
I have a situation where a client of mine needs both WLS and WLPI, but
wants to have WLS 6.0. However the client also wants its portal release
by September, so I am just kind of skeptic about the situation.
I tried to deploy the WLPI jars on WLS 6.0 after converting its
weblogic.properties to a corresponding domain's config.xml in WLS 6.0
but the beans still don't deploy. The error seems to indicate that I'll
need to recompile the WLPI Beans with WLS6.0 and ofcourse I don't have
the code. So it is my feeling that only Bea can port it.
any help on either porting WLPI to WLS6.0 or in letting know the time
frame for when to expect it is welcome.
thanks and regards,

painlessly, except for having to repackage (note - NOT rebuild) the
EJBs.
If you need detailed instructions on what needs changing, please
contact me directly. (Remove the REMOVETHIS bit from my email :-)
Note: the WLPI1.2 / WLS60 config is NOT supported by BEA in any way.

Hi Santosh,
The BEA WebLogic Commerce Server (WLCS) 3.2 does not work with the
BEA WebLogic Server (WLS) 6.0. It only works with WLS 5.1 with the
appropriate service pack. The next version of WLCS, 3.5, is due in
late April and is based on WLS 6.0 SP1.
Thanks,

• Solaris Server VM under Weblogic 7.0 sp1

I have noticed that bea has dropped platform support
for the Sun SPARC Solaris Server VM (java 1.3 -server option)
and only allows the use of the client VM (-hotspot)
I was under the impression that -server mode was much more scalable than -hotspot
mode, which is now the only option
on solaris.
Has anyone tried using -server mode under with weblogic 7
with any success or greater performance?

I heard for corporate customers there is a patch for weblogic 7 with that you can
use jdk141.
Am i right?

• Help with Weblogic 6 sp1 Custom Realm !!!!

We are trying to run Weblogic 6.0 sp1 with our current environment (ejb 1.1, custom
security realm)
We can compile and deploy our ejb 1.1 beans. We wish to start with ejb1.1 and
move to ejb2.0 once we can get our custom security working.
The JDBC connection pools are fine.
Our custom security realm uses LDAP for user authentication and an Oracle table
for authorization (acls).
Earlier, I wrote to the board and received the below following instructions to
use our existing custom realm in wl 60. You can read below, but I followed these
instructions on Solaris 5.6.
1. I ensured the SunOS patches were up to date.
2. We ensured the LD_LIBRARY_PATH reflected weblogic 6 (and not 5.1). We moved
the 5.1 classes over to wl6.
3. We copied our custom realm properties file to the weblogic root and/or the
config subdirectory (tried them both).
4. We ensured the security realm class we wrote is in the classpath (we bunch
all our serverside classes in a jar file anyway).
5. Then we created a custom realm via the console – name BFXRealm and it’s
class name <package>.BFXRealm, left configuration box blank.
6. Then we created a custom caching realm BFXCachingREalm and set its basic realm
as the custom realm, BFXRealm. All of the enable caches are checked to true.
7. Then we set the default realm to the BFXCachingRealm.
Now, when we perform a query, the everyone group should be implied. We don’t
implement LDAP lookup on queries. If I try to run a query from a client, I see
the client box connecting with the server:

Yes this can be done. Here's how:
1) I'll assume that the classname to your custom realm is "com.yourcompany.YourCustomRealm"
2) I'll assume that your custom realm has some kind of properties file from which
it reads its configuration data. Let's call this file "YourCustomRealm.properties"
3) Copy YourCustomRealm.properties to every machine that you're running wls on
(you are probably already doing this today).
4) Make sure that com.yourcompany.YourCustomRealm is in the classpath when you
start wls (you should already be doing this today)
5) In 5.1, there used to be some utility classes that customers used for their
custom realms - something about Pools & Factories. These have been renamed in
6.0. If you're using these classes, then go to your 5.1 weblogic jar file and
pull out these classes and add them to your classpath for 6.0.
6) In the console, create a custom realm and set it's realm class name to com.yourcompany.YourCustomRealm.
Leave the configuration data section blank.
7) In the console, configure your custom realm as the alternate realm. That is,
create a caching realm and set it's basic realm to your custom realm, then set
the realm's caching realm to the caching realm you just created.
I'm pretty sure this should work for you. We did this to provide a patch that
let 6.0 users uses the LDAPRealm rewrite from 5.1.
The downside is that you don't get single point of administration - that is, you
have to make your custom realm's configuration data (YourCustomRealm.properties)
available on all the machines you're running WLS on. If you rework your custom
realm, then the configuration data gets put in the custom realm configuration
you create via the console and automatically copied to other machines for you.

it reads its configuration data.

• Error while using TXDataSource with Weblogic 6.1 & Oracle 8.1.6

Hi,
I am using Weblogic 6.1 and Oracle 8.1.6.
I have configured JDBC XA Connection Pool with Oracle thin driver. These are my settings...
Connection Pool:
Name - myXAPool
URL - jdbc:oracle:thin:@myServer:1521:myDb
DriverClassname - oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource
TXDataSource:
Name - myXADS
JNDIName - myXADS
PoolName - myXAPool
I get the following error when I try to lookup the datasource. I am not sure where the problem is as I have configured Connection Pool and TXDataSource as mentioned in the documentation.
java.sql.SQLException: XA error: XAER_RMERR : A resource manager error has occured in the transaction branch start() failed on resource 'myXAPool' Unexpected error during start for XAResource 'myXAPool': null
It would be really great if you can help me out.
Thanks in Advance,

Hi Sergi,
Thanks a lot for the class file, I figured out what the problem was. Actually
the
database version I was working with was 8.0.6.0. The Oracle driver doesn't
work with
this but the JDriver worked. This is the output of running CheckDriver..
DatabaseProductName : Oracle
DatabaseProductVersion : Oracle8 Enterprise Edition Release 8.0.6.0.0 -
Production
With the Partitioning and Objects options
PL/SQL Release 8.0.6.0.0 - Production
DriverName : Oracle JDBC driver
DriverVersion : 8.1.7.1.0
Then I tried on using the Oracle Driver on another instance which has the
version
8.1.7.1.0 and it worked. The JDriver and Oracle driver both work with this
database.
The output of CheckDriver for this Oracle instance is..
DatabaseProductName : Oracle
DatabaseProductVersion : Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.1.0 -
Production
With the Partitioning option
JServer Release 8.1.7.1.0 - Production
DriverName : Oracle JDBC driver
DriverVersion : 8.1.7.0.0
By the way I am working on WLS 6.1 SP1. What is the advantage of SP2 ? Should
I upgrade
Thanks once again,

On which platform are you running your WLSP2 ?

Hi Sergi,
I just checked the things you mentioned. The connection pool starts correctly
without
any errors. I also made sure SELECT previlege was granted to DBA_PENDING_TRANSACTIONS.
I do have the JAVA_XA package installed and it has EXECUTE permission
to
PUBLIC.
I actually tried using the Weblogic JDriver (weblogic.jdbc.oci.xa.XADataSource)
and
it works perfect without any issue. The only consideration is that itis
a Type 2
Driver and needs to have the Oracle Client installed. But right now Ido
have it
installed on the same machine.
Do you know any known issues with Weblogic JDriver. Do you think it'sa
good idea
to go with it ?

Hi Sudhir,
does your connection pool start correctly ?
Check the setup of your Oracle server too:
1) grant select on DBA_PENDING_TRANSACTIONS table to PUBLIC
2) package JAVA_XA installed (with grant execute to PUBLIC)

I have the following situation:
WebLogic Application Server 6.1 sp1. A deployed mdb does nothing - just sits idle

I have 2 questions and these are very urgent :-
1. Where the mapping can be defined between LDAP groups and WebLogic Roles. I have
2 groups in iPLanet :- Contarctors and employees and I have 2 security roles in weblogic:-

2. I have not defined contarctors and employeees under People container in IPlanet.
e.g. The RDN for contractor is
uid=1234,ou=dir,dc=orams,dc=com
Can I still use the defualt security realm of weblogic (the WebLogic Security Realm

Hi Ariel,
The driver is bundled with the product in WLS 6.1sp1. you don't have to
download any additional driver. Use it as you normally would only thing to
remember is if you are trying to write standalone java code then you have to
have weblogic.jar in your classpath. For the rest of the info follow the wls
docs for 6.1

• Multiple applications: weblogic 6.0 sp1 and apache 1.3.12 proxy

Hi,
We are testing the following setup:
Weblogic 6.0 SP1 running on Solaris 8 (SUN, ip: 192.168.0.1)
Apache 1.3.12 running on Linux (ip: 192.168.0.2)
We have two applications setup on weblogic in the following
directories:
$WL_HOME/config/mydomain/applications/app1 and
$WL_HOME/config/mydomain/applications/app2
The idea is to set up virtual hosts on the apache server and
depending on the url, redirect the client to a specific
application. So for the application app1 we have the following
setup in httpd.conf:
<Files ~ "*.jsp>
SetHandler weblogic-handler
PathPrepend /app1
</Files>
<IfModule mod_weblogic.c>
WebLogicHost 192.168.0.1
WebLogicPort 7001
DebugConfigInfo ON
Debug ALL
</IfModule>
This seems to work fine, e.g. if the client requests a page
http://app1.url.com/index.jsp this gets correctly passed to
weblogic as http://192.168.0.1:7001/app1/index.jsp.
BUT when a jsp page does a response.sendRedirect
(redirectpage.jsp), weblogic tells the client to redirect to
http://app1.url.com/app1/redirectpage.jsp. *Apache* immediately
comes back with an error 404. Is there a way of stripping
the /app1 path from the redirect page that gets sent
to the client?
OR is there a better way of hosting multiple applications on a
server?
This is only a problem when we use sendRedirect.
Any ideas
Thanks

• Access to Weblogic 7.0 SP1 datasource throws Oracle Exception

Hi,
I am trying to access a DataSource & Connection Pool set up in a Weblogic 7.0

itself. The code I used is given below,
Hashtable ht = new Hashtable();

ht.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://localhost:7001");

if (ctx != null) ds = (DataSource) ctx.lookup("sample.SQLServer2KDS");
Connection conn = ds.getConnection("system", "password");
The connection pool points to a SQL Server 2000 database. But the getConnection
throws an Oracle exception, given below. We don't have any reference to oracle
drivers anywhere and we don't have any installations of Oracle. When I put the
Oracle JDBC driver in the classpath of my client application, this problem went

Hi,
I am using I-net Opta 2000 v2.05 JDBC XADriver with WLS 6.0 sp1.
I create a connection pool using com.inet.tds. XDatasouce. In
WLS startup script, I put in -Dweblogic.Debug=weblogic.JTAJDBC
debug switch. The output reports UnknownMethod datasourceName
exception. I attached stack trace at the end. I didn't create datasourceName.
the next thing I want to do is:
1) Create one CMP entity bean name cmpBean_1 using XA Pool one
connects with MS SQL Database DB1.
2) Create second CMP entity bean name cmpBean_2 using XA Pool
two connects with MS SQL Database DB2.
3) In a sessionless bean, I will do
ut = ctx.getUserTransaction();
ut.begin();
cmpBean_1.doSomething();
cmpBean_2.doSomething();
ut.commit();
Could I do like this?
Thanks in advance.

• Running the J2EE CA implementation on Solaris (weblogic 6.0 sp1)

Hi! I am trying to run the J2EE CA Beta 2 implementation on weblogic 6.0 sp1. Everytimg
I run the server I get the following exception:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: zip file closed

Seems like the RevisedBlackBoxNoTx.rar is causing this problem. Could someone
please tell me how I should fix this problem.
Regards,
Nehal.

Edit the registry.xml file and change "6.0 Beta" to "6.0"

Thanks for helping me figure this out. If this doesn't work,

Hi,
I'm trying to get the service pack SP1 ((wls60sp1_upgrade_win.exe)

After unpacking and choosing my bea home directory (D:\bea),I
get an error that says "Weblogic Server Service Pack1 Installation
failed. You do not seem to have Weblogic server 6.0installed for
BEAHOME D:\bea".
But that is untrue. I DO have it installed in D:\bea,and I have
the environment shell up by running setEnv.cmd and Iinvoked the
service pack installer from within that shell.
Is there anything I'm missing? Has anyone else encounteredthis
problem? Any help with this would be much appreciated.

• WebLogic 6.0 SP1 Duplicates JSP Request

I have run into a problem where WebLogic seems to be duplicating
page requests, which causes my web application to enter duplicate data items.
Essentially I have one JSP page,
ItemMaster.jsp, that includes a couple of pages that do
supplemental processing depending on which tab is chosen by the user. The error
only seems to occur when adding records, as processing the other requests twice
in succession doesn't duplicate database data. I have placed debug statements
at the
beginning and ending of the main page, ItemMaster.jsp. Once the
app server hits "End Item Master JSP", there should be no processing left, as
it is the last line in the JSP. The first set of trace statements executes correctly
if I wait at least one minute from the end of processing the last request. Otherwise
at the bottom set of trace statements, you see that it
processes the same page twice, duplicating data.
One other note, the browser window the JSP is processing in is
another spawned window to create a dialog like look-and-feel. So there are two
physical browser windows open at the same time. Coincidence? I don't know.
I'm using WebLogic 6.0 SP1.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Matt Parker

This happens in WebLogic 6.1 SP2 as well when using IE5.5 + and Netscape
6.0. It also seems to slow things down since the response waits for this
second request. I'm curious if anyone can expand on why this is happening
and what is meant by "add logic that prevents multiple updates in your
page". If you try out the BEA demo apps, you might notice that this happens
with their pages as well. At least it does with Stockportal...
