WLS 5.1 restriction of processor usage possible?

Hi,
I want to run the WLS 5.1 on a WIN NT4 server together with a SYbase ASE database
server.
The server machine has four processors and I want to define that WLS uses only
two
wheras ASE uses the other two.
We already know that this is possible with ASE.
What about WLS? Can we define (how?) that WLS should use only two processors.
I know that this is possible at
runtime with WIN NT Server Taskmanager. But I do not want that somebody needs
to adjust this
every time a WLS is restartet.
Or is this totally unnecessary, since WLS takes overall processor usage into account?

WLS doesn't count CPUs, just IP addresses. You should check your system
doc's to see if there's a way in NT to restrict execution to a set of
processors at start time. It's possible in Solaris. This may just be a
limitation of NT.

Looking to buying time capsule 3TB for my department.
I have about 20 Staff, within them a few macs but primarilty windows 7.
I was wondering if i can set up the time capsule to allow fixed ip-address only, and even possibly restrict the internet usage, to prevent my staff from downloading big data??

Yes, but you will need to have the MAC Address of each wireless device to set this up. This will only work on wireless devices, not any devices that are connected using Ethernet.

The Time Capsule does not have this type of capability. Look at appropriate Cisco or Netgear products if you need this feature.

The Time Capsule would need to be configured in Bridge Mode to operate correctly on the network.

Windows 98 Processor Usage

Hello,
I have found that any LabVIEW program (I am developing in LV 7.0 on a WIn200 machine) I write has a very bizarre effect when it is run on a PII Win98 Machine. I'll take you through the sequence of events.
I'll restart the computer and then display the processor usage monitor. I'll then run a LabVIEW developed program. The Processor usage is now around 8%. I'll close out of the program. Now my processor usage jumps up to about 65% and stays there forever more. If I run anything else, the processor usage accumulates. However, if I run another LV exe, the usage percent will drop down to the typical 8% or so.
I believe I am closing my application out just fine. I even tried the "Close LV" vi and it had no different effect.
Does
anyone have a possible reason for this or solution?

Hm, this is strange behavior indeed! Have you tested this out on any other Win98 machines to verify that it is a Win98-related issue?
Also, are you communicating to any hardware in your executable (i.e, using NI-DAQ or VISA). In particular, if you are using VISA, there is a 'SyncVisa' environment setting for LabVIEW executables that needs to be set in the .ini file. If you are making any Traditional DAQ calls, then a CPU usage of 100% is expected. Refer to the following KB for more information: KB 2ZK7NQB9: NI-DAQmx CPU Usage at 100%

Does installing Desktop Experience on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 slow down the server / increase processor usage?

I'm running a tekkit classic (Minecraft) Server on a dedicated server I got from OVH, Im just wondering - Im currently using ClamAV for an antivirus, But I would like windows defender.
Im wondering if installing Desktop Experience on my dedi would increase processor usage or slow down the dedi even slightly.
System Specs:
RAM: 32GB DDR3 ECC 1600MHz
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1245v2
HDD: 2x2TB SATA (Both used, specified as different drives)
OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
Theres only 1 indev tekkit server currently running on there, Im getting 0-5% processor usage. I may be setting up more modpack servers - but im wondering if installing desktop experience would increase the processor usage or slow the dedi down.

Any way that I can restrict my ipad usage

I am constantly on my ipad 24/7 and it's getting very distracting especially when I want to go to bed. It will keep me up for hours since I am unable to put it down. Is there an app or a feature that can restrict my app usage between certain hours or anything like that?

Go to the clock app and set the alarm for your bed time. Use the sci-fi sound, you'll be glad to turn it off. Even if there were an app to to restrict usage you'd delete it the first time you wanted to stay up longer.

ITunes + Safari = Over 50% of Processor Usage

When running nothing more than iTunes and Safari, my processor usage varies from 50%-80%.
I wasn't aware of these apps being such resource hogs. Would a downgrade to Tiger help?

Do you have a large Play List on iTunes? Are you browsing a (or many) Flash sites at the moment?
I have a 20 GB Play List, and with iTunes and Safari open, the CPU tops at, say, 15% for each max (monitored via Activity Monitor).

You can also turn cellular data on the phone. What phone do you have so I can provide the steps? May I ask the reason you're looking to turn off data on the line? SA520W - High memory usage, possible fix in 2.2.0 firmware?

As suggested by Thomas Watts, I'm starting a new thread to discuss the new SA520W firmware (2.2.0) and a possible resolution to high memory usage I'm experiencing on my network.
My current setup is: 16Mbit DSL > SA520W > SA300-10, all with stock settings (no fancy VLAN's etc.)
I have 4 CentOS 5/6 servers and a Windows 7 Ultimate station connected to the switch. I use CIFS to connect from Windows station to the other Linux servers and send large files. I currently notice the following behavior:
When the file transfer starts, the Intel 1Gbit NIC is nearly saturated, hitting 115MB/sec. After few seconds, the data transfer comes to a halt and the transfer speed drops to around 50MB/sec. If I check the memory usage before the file transfer, it is approximately to 50-60% (on a fresh router reboot). Every time I send large files to other machines, the router memory consumption increases and it does not lower after a reasonable delay. I end-up with high memory near 90% and the only solution I have is to reboot the router in order to bring it back to 50%.
Now, Thomas told me that this is simply a cosmetic issue, the memory is not actually 90% used. Yet, when the memory hits this threshold, I'm not capable to send files are normal LAN speeds I'm used to. Rebooting the router allows me to send only ONCE (and for few seconds) data at the expected LAN speeds.
I would apreciate any input from Cisco engineers as well other users who experience the same issue. I would also like to know if any related work was done into 2.2.0 firmware and when we expect to have it released to users.

Hardware wise, I did not changed anything on machines. All boxes have dual Intel EXPI9301CT NIC's (LACP was planned) but I currently use single connections for sanity reasons (disks won't allow greater speeds anyway). Previous to Cisco, I used a Netgear ProSafe router + switch which did not encountered the issues I mention. Honestly, at first I thought I'm dealing with some stupid disk issues on Windows. So I ran a quick test and the stats are proper:

As I mentioned before, everything is pretty much stock on router/switch settings. If you have any tips that allow me to identify the cause, I would appreciate the input. What puzzles me is the speed drop and quick memory usage increase. It occurs 7-10 seconds after the transfers begins. It looks like the data transfer hangs for a very short period of time (less than half of second) and the transfer speed decreases from 110-115MB/sec to 50-60MB/sec. The transfer is completed at this speed. No matter how many other files I try to transfer after, the speed won't go higher than 60MB/sec. If I reboot the router, I get the same cycle.

Why does my facebook say restricted under data usage?

For some reason my phone is using a lot of data when I only use the internet when I'm at home and its connected to our internet. I checked on my phone under data usage to see where it is all going and everything is using very little data except under facebook it doesnt give me an amount used, instead it says restricted? I can use facebook but its very limited. Does anyone know what is going on?

FB is set to restrict background data maybe? If so, it only uses data when in the forefront, or while using it. Check to see and disable if need be under your settings then Mobile Data and scroll down to FB and tap it. Should see a box stating Restrict Background Data.

Restrict TECO if Usage decesion has not been made

Hi All,
I have a requirement. Can I restrict system status TECO for an Order for which Usage decision has not been made just only by SPRO settings ?
I do not want to use User exit.
Also, I do not need automatic TECO status set at the time of UD which I see in majority of threads.

Hope you can achieve this with the help of assignment of User Status in Order type.
Go to OIBS transaction there we can give status profile to the order.
you can give 2 statuses by using TECO allowed or NOT ALLOWED you can control the status change.
In transaction OIOG you can assign this status profile to Order.
if it is not full fill then you have to for the enhancement.

In the VAR scenario, key users should not be able to choose/assign a message processor.
Is the Key User in your system allowed to access queries and CRM_DNO_MONITOR.

PSE 8 ... Email Sending & Processor Usage

I had to start a new thread ... the other one was answered, thanks.
All transferred successfully. I made a mistake the first time by selecting Restore original folder structure and this dumped all the Adobe Calalogue information in my Pictures folder!
Maybe you can also assist with the following:
1. It seems that to send an email direct from PSE is not possible using Windows Live Mail? ( I used Windows Mail before on my old pc)
2. When PSE is not being eg Edited, my processor is running at a level higher than I would have thought necessary. I have unchecked all Auto Analyser Options and also Recognise People and it is not Reconnecting Missing Files. What else can I check?

Reduce cron processor usage

We have 2 machines that we use for quicktime broadcaster for webcasting/recording live events. While one is fairly powerful and never uses a ton of CPU power, the other is a older powerbook which jumps up to the 90%'s when running.
On each machine, we have a script in root's crontab that runs every minute, and it seems to take up ~5% or so when it runs. It's important that the script runs every minute but not important how long it takes.. right now, its usually just a second or two. However when the powerbook in webcasting and the script runs, sometimes there's a little hiccup in the video that's recording, im guessing cause the processor reaches 100%.
Is there any possible way to reduce the importance/load of cron to fix this?
P.S. the cron command that runs is a "cat file > file2" command

cron itself isn't the problem, it's the command that cron's running that's the problem. You could change the nice value of the command so that it becomes "nicer" and let's other processes go ahead of it in the run queue. Check out the man pages on nice and renice:
man -k nice
