WLS 6.1 SP2 and Struts 1.1b3 Manifest Problem

When I try to deploy the struts-example.war or if I add the struts.jar
to any other web app I've created, I get this error when I start WLS and it
tries to deploy that war.
java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException
at weblogic.servlet.internal.WebAppHelper.resolveManifestName
(WebAppHelper.java:469)
I'm using version 1.1b3 of struts. I'm having no problems with version
1.0.2 of struts.
I'm guessing its complaining about the manifest file in struts.jar, but I
don't understand why.
Here's my version info and the stack trace (my web app is called findme in
this example). Thanks in advance.

I've solved my own problem. I learned that there was a sp4 (let alone a
sp3) for WLS. Installed that and the problem went away. Sorry for the
noise.

    (WebAppHelper.java:469)
I'm using version 1.1b3 of struts. I'm having no problems with
    version 1.0.2 of struts.
I'm guessing its complaining about the manifest file in struts.jar,
    but I don't understand why.
Here's my version info and the stack trace (my web app is called
findme in this example). Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Generally this type of exception raised by a class or the serialization runtime when a class may not be serialized. The argument should be the name of the class.
You might be forgot to implement the serializable interface for the class in struts frame work.
    check it properly.

I have recently tested my application in WLS 6.1 SP3 (who work normally in WLS

What need I do to correct it ?

    Steven,
The CGIServlet for WebLogic will not run a CGI that doesn't have an extension.
Just add and extension to your executable and it should run fine.

  • WLS 6.1 SP2 NSAPI and iPlanet (Sun One) issues

Hi. I am going nuts with this NSAPI issue. I am working in a Solaris 8 environment,
WLS 6.1 SP2 and iPlanet (Sun One)and NSAPI. I can get everything to work fine
and dandy in aniPlanet 4.1 environment. I can not get it to work in an Iplanet
(Sun One) 6.x environment. It appears that some things work differently between
the versions of iPlanet (ie. things contained in magnus.conf and/or obj.conf).
I have tried moving things, removing things, adding things and nothing seems
to work....it's almost as though the NSAPI, etc. are being ignored.
I've attached my magnus.conf and obj.conf files (I cut and pasted them into a
single file so I could upload it). Can anyone help me out here...I've been working
for weeks on this and can't seem to get any answers.
    Thanks!
    Doug
P.S. For security purpses I changed the first part of the IP add. in the files
    to 1234567, etc.
    Thanks
    [conf_files.txt]

    Hi Doug
U have to put the following section
    Init fn="load-modules" funcs="wl_proxy,wl_init" shlib="./libproxy.so"
    Init fn="wl_init"
    into magus.conf
and put the rest into obj.conf

Does anybody know of a good reference document on how to properly install
    the NSAPI
plug-in for WLS6.1 & iPlanet6(SunOne) on Unix (Solaris). Many of the references
    that
I have been finding are either incomplete, have typo's and are mostly Windows
    oriented
(ie. with the .dll's, paths, examples, etc.)
My problem is that our old iPlanet 4.x works fine...everything proxies,
    etc. iPlanet
6 just doesn't want to seem to communicate with WLS 6.1 SP2 We tried many
    of the
saem things from the 4.x magnus & obj.confs...but things look somewhat different
in iPlanet 6.x (did they move tings..such as the fn's from one to the other,
    etc.)
If so..and there are big differences in installing iPlanet 4.x vs. 6.x
    then many
of the docs out there are inaccurate. Does anyone know if there is a newer
    version
of the NSAPI plug-in for Unix.
I would love to see a basic, working set of magnus.conf obj.conf, MIME,etc
    from someone
who has actually gotten NSAPI to work between WLS 6.1 and iPlanet 6 on Unix
    (Solaris)
It blows my mind that 4.x works and 6.x doesn't. An updated NSAPI plug-in
, if it exists and perhaps fixes the problem, would make my day. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

While XMLSPY Special Edition for BEA WebLogic (version 5.4 something, built in 2003) is indeed packaged with WLS 8.1 sp2 and can be installed, but it'll pop up a window (ALTOVA License Manager) everytime when I try to use it. This window pops up because the license key is not installed during the installation and therefore can't be used unless a valid key is provided.
I wonder whether I really need to get XMLSPY Special Edition for BEA WebLogic 8.1 working in order to use WLS 8.1 just for the purpose of learning. If so, can someone share with me the the key-code for XMLSPY Special Edition for BEA WebLogic 8.1 please?
BTW, I tried to find something useful to this question/problem at ALTOVA website, no luck at all.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Ravi,
Thanks very much for your very helpful reply.
I got into the problem with xmlspy while I was trying to figure out why the WLS admin console missing the left pane/sidebar. There was only one non-expandable dot sign at the lefttop in the admin console. When I right-click on that little dot icon, the pulldown menu shows one option is to use XMLSPY to check (something along that line). Also, I see the XMLSPY button at the left bottom of my W2003 windows (just next to IE button). So, either way when I invoked XMLSPY I would get that pop up window which tells me there choices: type in a key-code, request for a trial key, or buy a license key. But eventually, I figured out the way to fix my problem - installing a newer version of j2sdk code. However, I wasn't sure whether the xmlspy issue would a hidden problem further down the road for me to learn WLS 8.1.
You're absoluately right commenting on the the right version of WLS to use at the beginning of learning WLS.
I have been VMWare Workstation for several months. I've created a CentOS 5.4 VM with WLS 11g installed. I played with with WLS 11g for a while and even followed through an Oracle online tutorial for that version. But I'm just used to learn something with a hard copy of book and I happen to have this old book on WLS 8.1 which seems to be highly rated before. I may continue to go through this book quickly if I can. However, if I experience too many hard problems down the road, I won't waste too much more time on this path. My long term goal is of course to learn more and better about WLS 11g and other Oracle related framework and tools. There is too much to learn. But the good thing is that Oracle provides everything free to learn. Also, I'm very encouraged by the quality of the Oracle tech group where I can turn for very useful help.
    Thanks again and best regards,

  • WLS 8.1 Deployment and memory usage

Running WLS 8.1 SP2 and deploying (always manually) our application using the weblogic.Deployer tool, I am noticing a 6-8MB loss of available heap after each deploy. As you might imagine, these add up, if we redeploy 10 times in a given server instance, we end up with an Out of Memory error.
This really isn't an issue with our production apps, but is for us during development. Have there been any reports of memory/resource leaks in 8.1 deployments? I had thought it might be the JMS queues that start up and are shut down as part of our ApplicationListener, but it seems (via the console) that there is nothing extra lying around (at least not that's visible). In fact, the deployment seems to do what is promised - the system is in a consistent state after each one - except for this reduction in available memory. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, I'm using WLS 8.1 SP2 and wondering whether WLS support automatic DB-reconnection
(to Oracle 9.x) if for some reason Oracle connection crashes while WLS is active

way. Hi. At the connection-request time, the pool can be configured to test the connection,
and replace it if needed. While a connection is in user hands, the pool and weblogic won't
be able to interfere or interpret any problem so the user code should close the connection
and obtain a new one (which the pool will verify is good if configured to test).
Second question: is WebLogic server (Administration or managed server) automatically

  • Iplanet 6.x, NSAP & WLS 6.1 SP2

This is very strange. I can get NSAPI with iplanet 4.x to come up fine (everything proxies, etc. as it should). When we try to get iPlane 6.x working with NSAPI and WLS 6.1 SP2...nothing..doesn't work. We're running everything on Solaris.
Does anyone have or know of some good documentation that might describe how to get NSAPI working between WLS 6.1 and iPlanet 6...all the examples I've been seeing are mostly Windows paths, .dlls', etc. I'd love to see some working magnus.conf & obj.conf, etc. using WLS6.1 SP2 and iPlanet 6...we're not clustered and we're not using SSL (yet) so it's pretty vanilla.
What's blowing my mind is why iplanet 4.x works and 6.x doesn;t?? I wonder if the differences between the two are really that great. I checked BEA's doc...and like I said...it seemed a bit cryptic...someone told me ther was a typo or two regarding what was to go in magnus or was it obj.conf...I don't recall..it's just frustrating trying to get NSAPI up and running with WLS 6.1 SP2 and iPlanet 6. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Thanks Kumar. Does the syntax change (such as WebLogicCluster=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) if
we are running a single instance of WebLogic (a non-clustered environment)?

              Hi,
We are using Weblogic 6.1 SP2, NT 4.0 and java 1.3.1. We have also encountered
the same error message. We have 1 admin and 2 managed servers. We have tried connecting
in using weblogic.admin to check the idle thread and we are able to connect. However,
when we connect from IIS to Weblogic, the application failed to response. We have
tried connect direct to weblogic but it does not response as well. We have seen
that the idle thread left has been reduced but there is no activites from the
weblogic console. The thread is used but not releasing and the console is not
moving. When we shutdown one of the managed server, the application is able to
process as seen from the console.
We have turned off native io and this behavior is not seen. When we turn on native
io, it appear. So we can conclude that it is related to native io.
Is there any solution or intermediate patch without upgrading to the later SP
              Thanks

  • DB2 type 2 driver blocking WLS 8.1 SP2  on startup

    Hi,
I use DB2 type 2 driver with WLS 8.1 SP2 and did configure a jdbc connection pool as described in edocs. But when I start the server and the server tries to deploy the jdbc connection pool, the server hangs. I took some thread dumps and the thread to load the driver seems to be stuck, as it always shows the same stack trace.
Did anybody manage to use this driver? Any suggestions?

Sorry, it is running now. There was a misspelling in the environment variable DB2INSTANCE and therefore the requested instance was not reachable. Still interesting, that this can even prevent the server from booting. Now that I corrected the variable in the environment, everything is fine.

  • Wls 8.1 sp2: weblogic.jspc complains about struts-html tags

              Hi,
I am trying to compile jsps with weblogic.jspc, which use struts' html tags. However,
the compilation fails with the following message:
[java] Translation of /views/viewPageBody.jsp failed: (line 3): Error in using
tag library uri='/tags/struts-html' prefix='html': The Tag class 'org.apache.struts.taglib.html.BaseTag'
has no setter method corresponding to TLD declared attribute 'server', (JSP 1.1
              spec, 5.4.1)
I opened the BaseTag class from the struts jar and found the setter exists for
the attribute 'server' of html tld. So does the property 'server'. The property
'server' is a string and the parameter in the setter is a string. I read about
the jspc errors in wls 8.1 about the setter parameter being of different type
than the property. However, that is not the case here. I tried using both Sun's
and BEA's jdk. None of them help. Btw, there is another attribute mentioned in
the html tld, which is 'target'. The compiler doesn't complain yet about this.:(
Also, I happened to compile other apps which have struts logic tags.
              My environment:
              OS: Win2k sp3
              WLS: 8.1 sp2
              JDK: Sun's 1.4.2 sp4 / Bea's 1.4.1 sp5 (tried both)
Ant: 1.5.3 (I had an issue earlier with ant until I found that Bea officially
without any mention supports only ant 1.5.3.)
I would appreciate any help in this regard.
              Thanks,
              Abbas

What version of Struts are you trying to use?
Are you certain you're not encountering a different instance of that class in
an unexpected location in your classpath?

  • WLS 6.1 and Struts Applications

I've been able to deploy a Struts 1.1b2 application on WLS 6.1...but only by
altering the startweblogic.cmd file (Adding all required jar files to the
classpath for the server - not an optimal solution by any means.)
I have not been able to get the application working by simply dumping struts
jar files in the application's WEB-INF\lib directory (as should be the
    case).
So, is there any secret to making struts work under WLS 6.1 without
resorting to editing the startweblogic.cmd file?
    Thanks.

    Oyvind,
I believe using LDAPv2 with that release of Commerce Server is not supported.
If you would like more information please contact BEA Support.

    Hi,
We have a problem with WLS 6.1 and LDAPRealm v2. Our application was
    working with
WLS 6.0 and the LDAPRealm v2 patch. It is also working with 6.1 and LDAPRealm
    v1.
When upgrading to WLS 6.1 we experience problems looking up user properties
    from
LDAP. I put the same properties in the <CustomRealm> properties in config.xml
as we had in the old ldaprealm.properties file.
We are using WLCS 3.5 SP2, and we are looking up the user properties
    using the
<um:getProperty> tag but it always returns null.
Any idea what's wrong? This could be both a WLCS or a realm problem I
    guess?
Below is the realm declaration in config.xml
    <CustomRealm
    ConfigurationData="user.dn=ou=People, o=my.com;server.principal=cn=Directory
    Manager;server.credential=adminadmin;user.filter=(&(cn=%u)(objectclass=person));group.dn=ou=Groups,
    o=my.com;group.filter=(&(cn=%g)(objectclass=groupofuniquenames));server.host=aaa.my.com;membership.filter=(&(uniquemember=%M)(objectclass=groupofuniquenames))"
    Name="LDAPRealmV2" RealmClassName="weblogic.security.ldaprealmv2.LDAPRealm"/>
    Any input is appreciated,
    Oyvind
