WLS 6.1 SP2 NSAPI and iPlanet (Sun One) issues

Hi. I am going nuts with this NSAPI issue. I am working in a Solaris 8 environment,
WLS 6.1 SP2 and iPlanet (Sun One)and NSAPI. I can get everything to work fine
and dandy in aniPlanet 4.1 environment. I can not get it to work in an Iplanet
(Sun One) 6.x environment. It appears that some things work differently between
the versions of iPlanet (ie. things contained in magnus.conf and/or obj.conf).
I have tried moving things, removing things, adding things and nothing seems
to work....it's almost as though the NSAPI, etc. are being ignored.
I've attached my magnus.conf and obj.conf files (I cut and pasted them into a
single file so I could upload it). Can anyone help me out here...I've been working
for weeks on this and can't seem to get any answers.
Thanks!
Doug
P.S. For security purpses I changed the first part of the IP add. in the files
to 1234567, etc.
Thanks
[conf_files.txt]

Hi Doug
U have to put the following section
Init fn="load-modules" funcs="wl_proxy,wl_init" shlib="./libproxy.so"
Init fn="wl_init"
into magus.conf
and put the rest into obj.conf
Best Regards

• Help!! How to install and use Sun ONE Directory Server Resource Kit 5.2

Hi ! Friend:
I have some problem on install and use Sun ONE Directory Server Resource Kit 5.2, when I execute "java DSRK", afterwards something like this : com.iplanet.install.until.wbResource::gerstring:resource bundle"locale.resources.S1DSRKResource" not found appeared in the window ,that's why?
Meanwhile ,can you give some data about it on how to use it ?
Thank you !

You should be aware of the following characteristics of your directory when using this tool:
Size and number of entries.
Directory structure and access permissions.
Virtual attributes, class of service, and indexing.
Usage, types of access, and access patterns.
Post your error messages completely.

• IPlanet Sun ONE Web Proxy Server 3.6 SP6 terminating

I have a problem with my proxy server server.
I use iPlanet Sun ONE Web Proxy Server 3.6 SP6
It is terminating and the service is restarting. This happens about 10-15 times a day. The message I get from the log is :
[22/Mar/2005:09:29:30] info: server terminating... each time it terminates.
I know for sure that this is no hardware issue (as I have changed the hard disk recently). My OS is win2000 server SP4 + all released patches from MS.
Also I have reinstalled the OS several times (clean install after format) and I got the same result.
Also I tried to use the proxy with/without LDAP server for authentication - the same.
Any suggestions/recommendations are mostly welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Kaloyan

Dear Kaloyan,
Migration to another proxy (e.g. ISA) seems to be quickest solution for your problem, as WebProxy doesn't work well on w2k platform.

• Iplanet/sun one 6 and redhat 8

Has anyone been able to migrate to RedHat Linux 8.0 on a server that already has Sun One 6 installed? My web server is currently running 7.1, but that's no longer supported by RH. I'd like to go ahead and move it to something newer. I have the installation media for 7.3 and 8.0.

It may work but here's a list of officially tested and supported versions:
http://docs.sun.com/source/816-6770-10/rn60sp6.html#36474
I hear that you can make things run by installing Red Hat's compat RPMs but again this will be unsupported/untested.

• Accesing Oracle 8i Database from iPlanet (Sun ONE) web server

Hi all,
I am trying to set up basic authentication mechanism on an iPlanet web server hosted web application. Instead of using the iPlanet LDAP directory, I would like to access the Oracle RDBMS for userid/password authentication. Does Oracle provide a means/plugin for enabling such communication with the iPlanet web server.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kavita

This just happened to me.
The problem is that iPlanet seems to goof up if you insert any non-alphabetical characters (such as underscore) into your virtual server class name.
To resolve this issue I had to open up the backups.conf file located in the conf_bk subfolder under your server folder.
<server root>\conf_bk\backups.conf
There are three sections divided by an empty line. The first section is 1 line and just has the version #, something like this:
backups.conf:Version 4.0
The next section has a list of conf files to keep backups of, when the last backup was made, etc..
The problem is that in deleting the obj.conf file for the virtual class, iPlanet does NOT remove the entry from this file for that virtual server class. You need to do this manually.
So locate the line in this section (most probably the last line in this section) that contains (virtual server class name).conf in it and delete that line.
You should now be able to operate as normal.
This is an aggravating bug that I hope has been addressed in iPlanet 6.1

• IPlanet/Sun ONE Directory Server 5.1 configuration help needed.

Hi from Finland.
We have a SunFire 420 running Solaris 8.
It has 2 network adaptors each configured to have separate IP addresses. Eventually these cards will be on quite separate networks... one for intranet users and one for the rest.
What I am wanting to know is how do I configure the iDS 5.1 to be listening on port 389 for both IPs
When I installed iDS 5.1 I could only see one hostname and one domainname so the install went fine.
Is the Directory with multiple network adaptors setup an O/S issue or an iDS issue???
Any tips or help would be gratefully accepted!!

All my PROD systems have dual n/w cards listenning on different IPs(subnets for that matter). Data can be accessed over LDAP on both IPs with the same port. We did not have to do anything special at the Directory or the OS level.

• Problem with SUN ONE STUDIO Update 4

Hi,
I created a simple entity bean with finder methods and business methods.
But when I am trying to test the entity bean by generating the New EJB Client, and at the time executing the EJB client test client the following error as occured.
[b][b]Deploying... EAR Unable to deploy theC:/developer/JavaProject/test/test.earApplication
Deployment Error -- Error while running ejbc -- Fatal Error from EJB Compiler -- -- Error while processing CMP beans.
Please help me
Thank you

Hi ,
To know the reasons for deployment failure , you
could run your application using the Sun One verifier tool. Right click your application node and select Sun one verifier under the tools category.
Please post the results of the verifier tool in case you are not able to resolve the problem.

• SUN ONE Studio : How do I develop CMP2.0 from scratch

I am trying to develop a CMP 2.0 bean from scratch i.e I do not want EJB Builder to construct CMP bean based on an existing table. Can somebody tell me, once I have specified the persistent fields etc, where and how do I define the mappings in Forte and does Sun ONE appserver generate the table automatically?
Thanks

Repost your code, but this time wrapped in

tags, so it's legible. And indent it meaningfully.
It sounds like ultimately the answer is: you have to store some state representing whether there is an appointment on that day, and you have to set the color of the button to indicate that state.

• Can't uninstall Sun One Web Server

Hello -
I can't uninstall Sun One Web Server. I want to do this inorder to reinstall it, but the uninstaller didn't work. You can't reinstall without uninstalling. I'm running Windows XP.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any help would be appreciated.
Joanna

Hey people, I did it!
You should do the following, in order to remove and reinstall Sun One Web Server:
#1 - Uninstall through Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs
#2 - Delete the Sun One Webserver folder
#3 - Delete all sun one folders that are on your Documents and Settings
#4 - Delete the register in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Sun / Webserver
#5 - Delete the registers for the services you created in Sun One in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / System / CurrentControlSet / Services
After doing the step 6 (removing the services created), I was able to reinstall the webserver. I believe that the install program checks if there are any Sun One Webserver services in order to determine if it is already installed or not.
I hope it could help you.

• Re-install Sun One Studio 5

Hi,
I have download and install Sun ONE studio 5 the first time and it was very successful. It install both the Studio 5 and the application server 7
Because of some setting problem, I uninstall studio 5 and deleted the application server. Now I try to re-install, it will only install the core platform & modules.
It refuses to let me check the Sun One application server 7 & pointbase option. It says Sun ONE application server is detected on the system already. But I have physcially deleted the directory.
What should I do now to install the integrated Sun ONE studio 5 with application server 7?

It is very important to note that you should not delete the whole productregistry file. Only application server specific entries should be removed from it.

• Adding a windows client to a sun one Directory server running on Win 2000

Hi,
I am a newbie to sun one directory server but i am familiar with windows active directory.
I have followed the instructions and installed Sun One Directory Server on Windows 2000 Server using a typical setup and create a domain and also created some users in that domain.
The next thing i wanted to do was to add a windows 2000 professional desktop on this domain and login with one of the user accounts. I tried to adding the computer to the domain via the "My Computer->Network Identification->Properties->Domain" option and gave the domain name as the one i created on the Sun One Directory Server, but i get an error saying that domain was not found.
Am i missing something here. Do i need to install some client piece on the windows 2000 desktop to add the box on the sun one domain and login in as one of the users.
Any help will be deeply appreciated?
Thanks,
Raj...

yes, you can use samba for a windows client to login to ldap
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#id2536158
, but for windows XP clients you need to tweak the registry

• WLS 6.0 and Iplanet 4.1 proxy problems

Could someone confirm what is the latest version of IPlanet webserver
that is supported under WLS 6.0 SP2.
We are running under AIX 4.3.3 and have a Iplanet 4.0 sp4 webserver
running a connection to a backend WLS 6.0 sp2 instance also on AIX.
We are also running the libproxy_4x.so wl proxy file which allows us
to specify which IP in the obj.conf to have WLS 6.0 respond to vs. the
default ip on the server. The webserver runs on an aliased IP address
and due to firewall restrictions we must have WLS 6.0 talk back to the
IP that called the wl proxy. This does work correctly.
We have tried to duplicate this configuration under IPlanet 4.1 sp8
and we are getting the following errors with the wl proxy file:
[13/Oct/2001:03:42:15] failure (20564): for host x.x.x.x trying to GET
/testpath, wl-proxy reports: exception occurred for backend host
'x.x.x.x/6100': 'CONNECTION_REFUSED [os error=78, line 1282 of
URL.cpp]: x.x.x.x:6100'
This leads me to believe that it is the version of IPlanet server that
is causing the problem when it is calling the wl proxy. If someone is
running Iplanet 4.1 on AIX and using the wl proxy could you reply with
which service pack for Iplanet 4.1 works. We need to upgrade our

I have a question. Will WebLogic only listen to connections being
established from NES on the aliased IP? From what it looks like, with the
version of NES that you have, the NSAPI plugin is trying to establish a
connection to Weblogic on the primary IP, not the aliased IP.
There was a new feature added to the NES Plugin that allows you to bind the
plugin to a certain IP address in the case that you are using an IP Alias.
When the plugin makes a connection to WebLogic, it will first bind to the
specified IP address in the obj.conf.
The new parameter is: WLLocalIP.
I do believe the latest service pack for 6.1 (SP01) has the AIX plugin that
has this new parameter.

I've solved my own problem. I learned that there was a sp4 (let alone a
sp3) for WLS. Installed that and the problem went away. Sorry for the
noise.

I'm using version 1.1b3 of struts. I'm having no problems with
version 1.0.2 of struts.
I'm guessing its complaining about the manifest file in struts.jar,
but I don't understand why.
Here's my version info and the stack trace (my web app is called
findme in this example). Thanks in advance.
