WLS6.1, Oracle Thin XA, Oracle DB on Solaris = no dice

I am having the exact same problem.
The only hint to an answer I have been able to find in the WL newsgroups is
that it may be related to a Solaris Oracle install. ????
BEA... any ideas?
me: WLS6.1 on W2000, Oracle 8.1.7 thin driver (tried both with and without
the jta.zip and jndi.zip on classpath), Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris... also
tried with Oracle 9.0.1 (Solaris) and 9.0.1 thin driver, and 9.0.1
thin->Oracle 8.1.7(Solaris).
On a sidenote... I don't think you should have "ENABLE 2 PHASE COMMIT
ACTIVE" set. According
to the docs, this is only for drivers which need to fake 2 phase commit
capability... the option is poorly worded in the console if this is the
case. Regardless - I've tried with this setting both on and off and it
doesn't make a difference.

I am trying to create a connection pool in WS 5.1 with sp #6 using Oracle Thin Driver (oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver) on a Sun box. But I am able to create the pool using weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver. I get an DBMS Driver exception when I use thin driver. I have LD library path and weblogic class path set correctly. WL shows the following exception :

Please post your connection pool setting here. You might have missed some

I want to use oracle thin driver for jdbc2.0 in WLS6.1.
I just set it like what it look in jdbc1.2.
In my code, I import the classes under package oracle.sql.* and oracle.jdbc.*.
When I cast the connection from (DataSource)ctx.lookup("myPool").getConnection();
to oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection,
it raise the exception java.lang.ClassCastException: weblogic.jdbc.rmi.SerialConnection.

You can not cast a connection returned from datasource
to oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection as it's a kind of an RMI
stub thus has nothing to do with oracle. Could you tell us
what you're going to acomplish? We'll try to offer a solution.

and that program works fine.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong?? it seems that everything is in order (with

Oracle Thin and IE4

Hi,
I have written an applet using Oracle Thin (classes111.zip and Oracle 7.3.4 and JDK 1.1.4).
I have my Oracle Server and my Web Server on the same machine.
Everything works fine with Netscape 4.7.
But with IE4 I have this message:
java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver
java.lang.NullPointerException
Can anyone explain me what it means and what I have to do ?

Can you try registering the driver explicitly using DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver()). I think that there was some issue with Microsoft's VM that doing Class.forName() doesn't register the driver automatically. But I am not 100% sure.

Database connection encryption and integrity with ColdFusion and Oracle thin client

As ColdFusion datasource we are using the Oracle thin client to connect with the database. So, basically we are using a JDBC URL such as jdbc:oracle:thin:@... and as Driver Class oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver. This works successfully however we would like to set encryption and integrity parameters as well. In Java this is done similarly by setting a Properties object prior to getting a connection as follows:

Is there a way that I can pass these parameters to the ColdFusion datasource. Ideally, I would love to do this centrally in such way that a change to all the cfquery or cfstoredproc is not needed.
I also know that in application servers such as Oracle AS there is an option when creating a datasource which says "Add Properties". In there you can add such properties. So, I was thinking of maybe creating a JNDI DS in the app. server and then magically connecting to it but this may have some impacts on the app.
Besides this I was also thinking of communicating with the CF datasource through the CF admin API (cfide.adminapi.administrator) and also the option of extending the Oracle driver so that when CF connects with it these params are already set.
I would love to have your professional opinion and suggestions on this.

I believe the thin driver actually needs the IP address (not the DNS name). Also, is "java" the name of the Oracle instance to which you are trying to connect?

How to configure oracle thin drivers for SUN APPLICATION SERVER

I am working with EJB with oracle as back-end. I wants to know how to configure oracle thin drivers for the SUN APPLICATION SERVER. Please explain me breifly.

Any ideas on a MS Jet Access Error on Oracle Thin Driver?

I am getting the following error when attempting to connect to an Oracle 8i database on a UNIX server from a servlet on an NT server using Jrun:
Error
java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'EMPLOYEE'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly.
Where could this come from since I am importing the Oracle classes and have the JRun and system classpath set to where classes12.jar is located. There are no ODBC DSN settings for this DB on the server.
I am using this syntax to get the connection:
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
conn = DriverManager.getConnection(
"jdbc:oracle:thin:@10.20.10.112:1521:databasename",

it seems like the connection is being made successfully, otherwise you would get a different error.
Maybe your SQL has to be case sensitive in relation to the tablename??

Oci8 and oracle thin

I am using developer 3.0 on the NT server machine, with oracle 8
First of all when i start my computer one error message raise that is "one of your service is not running please check the event log". I saw the event log that service is oraclestartorc1. who can i start this service. the other oraclelistener service is also give error message in starting.
so next thing is when i click on the connection UI to make a new connection. I click on the oracle oci8 and use localhost = 127.0.0.1 and protocol = TCP and SID = orcl then error message comes that "ocijdbc8 is not in share path" who can i remove this problem also. I also use BEQ protocol to connect but the error message is same. When i use oracle thin driver then it raise message "could not establish the connection with adapter". Who can i remove this also. when i use the jdbc-odbc bridge it success the connection in test. But it does not show in connection. Who can i get driver for oci8, oci7 or for thin. Simply i want to connect my computer local database. my oracle directory is "orant" please help me thanks..

Try the following:
1. Make sure your ORACLE_HOME directory is in your PATH (JDeveloper needs this so it can find the OCI driver's client-side DLL).
2. Make sure you have an alias set up for your database in your TNSNAMES.ORA file (usually located in ORACLE_HOME\network\admin). I believe previous posts to your other questions provided instructions for this.
3. Within JDeveloper, select Tools | IDE Options... from the menu. Choose the Environment Tab, and in the Oracle Home section, choose the name of your Oracle Home or choose Default Home from the Select an Oracle Home list. (this isn't really required unless you have multiple Oracle Home's installed on your machine).
4. When creating your connection within JDeveloper:
a. Choose Oracle JDBC OCI-8 from the Select a JDBC Driver list.
b. Choose Existing TNS Names from the Select a Connection Method list.
c. Choose the alias for your database from the TNS Service list (this list will not appear until you choose Existing TNS Names from the Connection Method list.

The TNSNAME.ora that the OBIEE11g uses is insede the folder <OBIEE11g_HOME>\Middleware_Home\Oracle_BI1\network\admin

FYI: OTN Message:
1. If you just need one TNS alias, then copy the database connection descriptor from database tnsnames.ora file to the tnsnames.ora file under the BIEE directory:
[middleware home]/[oracle home]/Oracle_BI1/network/admin
2. You may also copy the entire tnsnames.ora file
3. Another alternative is to set the TNS_ADMIN environment varaible which would point to the directory where a tnsnames.ora file is located. This would need to be set as a System Environment variable in Windows or in the command shell if starting from a command-line. For Unix/Linux, it would need to configured in the user profile that owns the software or set explicitly in the shell if starting from the command-line. See Note 111942.1 Setting TNS_ADMIN Environment Variable for more information on adding this environment variable.

Using oracle thin driver with to_char gives invalid column name

select x,y,z, to_char(event_time,'YYYY-MMM-DD') from eventtable;
if i execute the above query using oracle thin driver it gives me invalid column name. It works fine if i use weblogic driver. So what could be the problem ???

Sorry , forgot to add that 'YYYY-MM-DD' or 'YYYY-Month-DD' or 'Year-MM-DD' or 'Year-Month-DD' are also allowed(please cheek also for other combinations), not 'YYYY-MMM-DD'.

CachedRowSet problem in Weblogic 6.1 and Oracle thin driver 9.0.1

Has anyone used the CachedRowSet class successfully? (this classes are
new and from the JDBC extension pack)
I am experiencing "Not in a transaction" errors when executing
cachedrowset.populate(resultset), even though I'm inside a correct
ut.begin and ut.commit transaction.
Note I don't have these problems when I don't use the CachedRowSet
classes.
If I remove the setFetchSize(50) line, then I receive the ORA-01002:
fetch out of sequence error, which is discussed in another post on
this newsgroup.
I don't have any of these problems at all, if I use the Oracle Thin
Driver directly (i.e. not using Weblogic 6.1).

Connection reset using JDBC Oracle thin Driver (towards 10g DB)

Hi we have a home-grown application and a Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) database.
We created a scheduled servlet that gets a JDBC connection from a persistent connected cache (an OracleDataSource object registered using OracleConnectionCacheManager). The servlet runs every 15 minutes and runs the query "SELECT SYSTIME FROM DUAL" on 10g Database as XYZ user. The datapool was created yday on web-app and all queries ran successfully for about 5 hours after which it reported a connection reset error.
I can then conclude that we cannot keep the server session alive for the JDBC client by running frequent SQL queries.
We didnt get any messages on the DB server side that indicate the release of the session
Ultimately, we are struggling with reset connections from our applications that are
using the JDBC thin oracle driver; after a couple of hours of idle
connections, we receive the below error from the JDBC driver:

The code itself is fine; the problem is with one of:
1) the connection URL
2) intermediate networking
3) the database itself
1) your connection URL is "jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:orcl"
- is Oracle really running on the default port, 1521
- is the installation SID really "orcl"
2) lots of possibilities, but only a couple are likely
- is TCP/IP configured and running on your host
- is there a persoanl firewall rpduct running? perhaps it's blocking the connection
3) Is Oracle running?
Is the listener running?

When I get a date field value using the Oracle thin (type 4) JDBC driver...

....in 'DD-MMM-YY' format from an Oracle 8i database and pass it in to the java.util.Date() constructor, I get a IllegalArgumentException. This error doesn't occur when I use the type 2 driver, so it is apparently a driver-specific thing. It happens on both Win32 and Linux.
Has anyone seen this before? Is there a newer version of the Oracle thin (i.e., type 4) driver than is listed here?

Yup, that original post didn't make much sense, did it? Let's try again.
I've got an EJB app that runs on WebLogic 6.0 (on Solaris in production, on Win2K for development) and accesses an Oracle 8i database. This app currently uses the Oracle type 2 JDBC drivers. All is well.
So I wanted to see how it would run on Linux. I've got a Redhat 7.1 box handy, so I installed the JDK and WL6.0 and slapped the ear file on there. Problem! Can't deploy because there are no Oracle drivers on this machine!
Makes sense. So I started looking around, and it seems installing Oracle on a RH 7.1 box involves patching glibc and other such nastiness. So let's just try the type 4 JDBC driver - no glibc patch, no shared object libraries, just good 'ol pure Java talking to Oracle on port 1521.
Once I had the URLs and whatnot set up, the app connected to the DB just fine, created the connection pool, read some data, etc. But when my app read a date from the DB and instantiates a new java.util.Date object, I got an IllegalArgumentException - i.e., the date can't be parsed.
"Hmm... that's odd", I thought, so back I went to my trusty Win2K machine, modified my configuration files to use the type 4 driver and - same error! So I switched back to the type 2 driver - and everything works fine, Dates and all. Hmmm.....
As you correctly state, that Date constructor is deprecated and I should use DateFormats and GregorianCalendars and whatnot instead.
But has anyone seen this weird behavior before - code that works fine on a type 2 driver starts throwing exceptions when used with a type 4 driver? Anyone have any solutions?
