WLSE Fault Settings

I'm looking for a good explanation regarding the following:
XXXXX Aironet AP 1210 Radio-B Port Dot11Radio0 Packet Error is in Degraded state (29%) P4 Degraded 15:26:59 06/07/2004
I've set up the faults, but haven't came across and good explanation how will this affect my wireless network performance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

See "Table 2-2 Radio Interface Faults" for the details on this Fault: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cwparent/cw_1105/wlse/2_7/ts_gd/faults.htm#wp1035591

  • WLSE Fault: Appeared Up: Compensated for

    Hello,
I'm running WLSE 2.13 and I'm having this fault many times in many different APs:
"Appeared Up: Compensated for by 11 radio(s)"
I connect to the AP and there's nothing unusual. What could be happening?

This only happens when self healing has been applied.
And remember that self Healing modifies only the power setting, and not the channel frequency or beacon interval of the neighboring APs.
The indicated radio appeared up or down on this AP, so other radios were modified to maintain coverage.
After self healing has been applied to the other AP, this fault indicates the radio that had the failure.
If self healing is configured to automatically apply changes, then these are the values that were applied. You can select the document with the eyeglasses in the faults page of that particular fault. A list of radios with the old and new power settings is displayed. These radios can compensate for the downed or recovered radio.

  • WLSE fault message AP is in Overloaded state

I am running WLSE ver 2.5 with 1200 series access points, IOS ver 12.2(13)JA. I have the WLSE set to monitor associated clients and continue to recieve the fault AP is in Overloaded state (4294967295 associated clients. This only happens with a few AP's. I have compared configs with some of my other normally operating AP's and found nothing. I have been clearing the fault and rebooting the AP, this seems to solve it short-term. Any thoughts and ideas will be apreciated.

It's not a problem with WLSE itself, but a bug with the AP IOS->CSCec89492 which causes this as well as other problems in WLSE, including showing the associated clients in reports as negative. The bug also affects 13JA1. In WLSE you can disable these faults for now as a workaround.

  • LMS 4.2.3 Fault Monitor threshold question

Hello, I would like to know if anyone know how to find out which Fault Threshold group a specific interface belongs to.
The scenario is that in Fault Manager there is an alarm for which I want to change the Threshold Setting.
    Example Alarm:
    Event_Description HighUtilization
    Device IP x.x.x.x
    Device Type Routers
Fault Last Updated At 19-Mar-2013 09:44:25
    Component IF-router2.x.x/26 [Tu187] [x.x.x.x]
    Component Class Interface
    Component Event Code 1056
    Current Utilization 68.323204 %
    Duplex Mode FULLDUPLEX
    Event Category Utilization
    Event Source DFM
    If Description Tunnel187
    Max Speed 100000
    Traffic Rate 8540.4 BYPS
    Type TUNNEL
    Utilization Threshold 40
If I look in Monitor > Fault  Settings > Setup > Threshold  Settings.
Then expand all groups under DFM, there is no group called "Tunnel", so the question is which group this Interface belongs to?
    BR /Crille

Its defined as an 10/100 ethernet interface " Component Class Interface"  with a 40% threshold utilization which it fell below per the event notifiation of 68.3%.
    Component IF-router2.x.x/26 [Tu187] [x.x.x.x]
If Description Tunnel187 --> Interface on router
    Max Speed 100000 --> Interface type(Fast Ethernet)

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Fault Device Details Issue

We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 but when I go into,  Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
I get the following message (see attached document with screenshot) and being a LMS newbie am unsure what to do? As have tried to search for this
           file but no luck.
So thanks in advance for any advice.

Check if the fault management rediscovery page shows device as discovered and known or does it have any errors?
Are you able to generate any fault management reports and view other pages?
Just try to reboot the server/restart daemon to see if it is goes away.
Else it is mostly corrupt FM DB. Which would need to be re-initialized.
Fault Mgmt reinitialize is very simple task, which doesnt removes a lot of data, except past 31 days of FM history and custom notifications, if configured.
    Thanks

I have upgraded WLSE to version 2.13.
After upgrading, "Unable to verify MFP configuration","MFP Timebase Invalid (bad SNTP), Device was not reachable via SNMP" these messages are logging so many on WLSE fault status. What are these mean and How to solve this problems.
and "Client MAC Spoofing Detected on 004096ae4f8f , and on AP" this message also show up too many. What is this mean and what should i do clear this fault event log?

For both faults, refer to Table 2-3 in Fault FAQ: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cwparent/cw_1105/wlse/2_13/ts_gd/faults.htm for details on Fault Description, Explanation, Related Setting and Recommended Action

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Email Notifications Issue

We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 with over 1000 devices in the database. I'm a LMS novice. And have been assigned the task of minimising the amount of email notification’s we receive, as if one device goes Operationally Down all devices off that switch also send alerts to the email notification group, which in turn overwhelms the mailbox.
The ports are configured not to log or send snmp traps.
    no logging event link-status
    no snmp trap link-status
So any advice on how we can limit these alerts being generated would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nessie,
Go to Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
select the device and click on view  then Click on the hyperlink or the device name\ip address
that will bring a new window from there click on Interface and chanaged the Managed state from ture to FLASE for those interfaces for which you do not want ALERTS.
    Thanks-

  • CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 - some questions

    Hello community,
I would like to ask some questions about CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1.
We are using for a few days, and I can't set some request in the system. I hope someone could help me to customize the CW as I would like to use it.
    - We have some Catalyst 6500s, and between them there are Etherchannels. CiscoWorks sends us email because HighUtilization, and it relies on a Gi interface. I read that CW doesn't support etherchannels, is this true.
    - I would like to receive email notifications about errdisabled state, etc. I know this is dome by RME, not DFM. The CiscoWorks server acts as Syslog server, too, and it collects the syslogs. I see in the Syslog summary, that the device sends to CW the syslog, but I can't receive email. I did an automated actions, (Monitor-Syslog-Automated actions), I defined the parameters (Facility: *, Sub-facility: *, Severity: 2, Mnemonic: PSECURE_VIOLATION, Description: *), but CW doesn't send me an email.
    - I would like to customize interface threshould parameters per device. We have some router with Tunnel utilization 90%, but it's okay because we have a 10Mbit line for the external site. But when our distribution switch ethernet utilization would be 90%, it would be critical. Where can I set these parameters per device/interface?
Thank you for your help in advance.
    Ferenc KURIS

If you go to  Monitoring > Fault Settings > setup > fault device details
Select the device click view and click the device to open the detailed device view.
There you may see the tu interface under interfaces and set it to managed.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • Email alerts in LMS 4.0

    Hi,
I want to implement email based alerts like for interface down, node down in LMS 4.0. Kindly provide complete procedure/steps how to implement this in LMS.
Looking forward for a quick reply from your side.
    Thanks & regards,
    Majid Saeed

Sure, if you take a port that you can disconnect without causing any issue then you can go to the DFM detailed device view and put the port in a managed state.
To do this goto Monitor -> Fault Settings -> Setup -> Fault Device Details, select the device with the port you want to manage, and in the screen that appears click again on the devicename.
Under interface status select the port and change the managed state to true and hit submit and apply when it pops up.
Next time this port goes down you will se an event in Fault management.
When the device get rediscovered the state goes back to unmanaged.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • Customizing performance threshold for interface utilization in LMS 4.0

Am running LMS 4.0, i want to customize performance threshold for interface utilization from the default 40% to x%, please help.

Based on your other post, I think you're talking about Device Fault management.  You can go to Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Threshold Settings, and select the DFM > System Defined Groups > Interface and the interface type you want, then edit the thresholds for this group.  Change the default utilization threshold from 40% to your desired value.  Save your changes, then go to Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Apple Changes to apply them.

  • LMS E-Mail Notifications Errors Defination

    Dears,
LMS send email notification to the customer (critical) as i customized
    with error (authentication failure)
is there any sheet to know or identify what each error means ?
as i googled it and didnt find a solution
    Thanks in advance

You can check following document which describes what alerts mean, which are raised by LMS:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/user/guide/lms_monitor/Events.html#wp1078033
Also, LMS listens to some specific traps sent from device and process them to send some alerts.
For some SNMP traps, LMS either processes them or treats them as pass-through traps. These traps, and how LMS treats them, are described in these topics:
    Processed SNMP Traps
When LMS receives certain SNMP traps, it analyzes the data found in the following fields of each SNMP trap message, and changes the property value of the object property if required:
•Enterprise (the sysObjectID of the agent or object)
    •Generic Trap Identifier
    •Specific Trap Identifier
    •Variable-Bindings
•IP address of the SNMP agent
    Pass-Through SNMP Unidentified Traps
Pass-through traps are the traps that are generated from devices and are not processed by LMS. The traps appear in the alerts and activities page, if they are generated from the devices that are managed by LMS. LMS cannot process these traps and map them to a topology element such as cards and interfaces. However, LMS can forward the traps irrespective of the device state is either managed or unmanaged. Forwarding these traps is controlled using Monitor > Fault Settings > SNMP Traps > Forwarding.
Pass-through traps are displayed as follows:
•As one of the following events:
    –InformAlarm
    –MinorAlarm
    –MajorAlarm
•With the device type and the device name from which it was generated
    Unidentified Traps
LMS may display an event as an Unidentified Trap. Normally an Unidentified Trap is reported when an event occurs on a device that is being discovered by LMS. To get more information on an Unidentified Trap see the corresponding Events page.
    For more details check :
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/user/guide/lms_monitor/TrapFwd.html#wp1007519

  • LMS 4.2 forward traps to Netcool

We want to forward LMS 4.2 traps to a remote NMS (Netcool).
In order to translate the traps into an event, we need the MIB's which LMS 4.2.3 is using.
Does anyone know the location of the directory on the LMS server of these MIB's?

    Hi,
you can forward the traps directly  from here : Monitor > Fault Settings > SNMP Traps > Notification
check this location on the server:
    NMSROOT\CSCOpx\hum\mibmanager\mibcompiler\mibs
If you want to add a new MIB to LMS , you can LOAD the MIB to the server from here :
Admin > Network > Monitor / Troubleshoot > Load MIB
