WM/Menu/Panel - Need Help/Suggestions

At the moment, I'm running KDE 3.5... with OpenBox3 as the window manager. I like the KDE apps, and the OpenBox look and feel. I really, really like Xfce4's panel and right click on desktop menu, and was wondering if it is possible to give up the DE and just have OpenBox with Xfce4's menu and panel. I could still use the KDE apps but I would not use the DE. I do not like the OpenBox menu, even if it is xml/standard. I know the panel is possible, but not so sure about the menu. I don't want to have to download all of Xfce4 though. I don't need Terminal or Thunar or that stuff.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'd appreciate it.

If you want to run XFCE and just substitute Openbox as the window manager, you can look here:

It's also possible to run Openbox, and then launch the XFCE panel on top of it (xfce4-panel).
I'll also second that the XFCE apps (Thunar and their terminal program) are quite light and fast.  If you don't want them, they shouldn't get in the way.

  • Rollover Button + Drop-down menu = I need HELP!

    I'm fairly new to this whole Flash thing, but i seem to be
    doing really well so far. I have created a website that is in
    functional, working order - all of my buttons, actions, links, etc.
    are working, (which i'm quite proud of), but i'm now at a loss. I'm
    trying to create a rollover button/dropdown menu effect for two of
    my galleries, and although i've successfully created the pop-up
    effect of the menu by utilizing the "Over" and "Down" states inside
    of the button itself, when i render out the file and test it, the
    drop-down text flickers. Placing the mouse over the original
    button, everything seems to work fine, but as soon as i move the
    pointer down over the pop-up/drop-down text, it flickers! i've
    tried creating this is separate layers, i've tried increasing my
    Hit state, i've even tried a stop action, but nothing works, and
    i'm out of ideas. Help!?

    If you are hoping to make linkable buttons for the drop down
    portions, then they need to be separate buttons. If they are
    internal to the main button, then they are the main button and will
    only link where it links (if they don't totally throw it out of
    whack--I forget what one of my client's doing that resulted in, but
    the bottom line is... buttons inside buttons are bad news.).
    My suggestion: Google "AS2 drop down menu tutorials" and see
    what you can find. Googling is a great resource for finding things.
    There will likely be a number to choose from, so read thru them and
    see which ones match what you're trying to create and are easy to
    follow (some may not explain things well... everybody and their
    uncles apparently want to try to teach the world what they know,
    regardless of their ability to explain things (or lack thereof)).
    Some, if not many, will provide source files you can build
    from.

  • How to hide/disable certain features in left panel, need help...

    Heya,
    So I upgraded to Leopard recently and I see that Mail has some lovely new features that appear in the left panel. Things like "On My Mac", "RSS", "Reminders" and my IMAP drive. Basically all I want to see is my "Inbox" drop down (this connects to GMail via IMAP) and all of it's sub-folders - nothing else.
    I can't seem to figure out how to "turn off" these other features, can anyone help?

    I will have to experiment, when time permits, to see if a user created folder on the server appears both places for me. I think it should only appear in the lower section of the Sidebar. In the meantime, please review the info at the two links below:

    for consistency with what you are doing and observing?
    A Gmail account is not exactly a POP is accessed as POP, and not exactly an IMAP, if accessed as IMAP. For example you are told to not use your own email client's Junk filter, but if you have more than one account, and that additional account is not Gmail, then you lose the ability for Mail to filter Junk for that account.
    The bottom line is that every feature of Gmail is set to encourage your accessing via a Browser rather than an email client to expose you to the maximum ads.

    i need to develop a report --
    a report with columns: emp_id, emp_name, manager_number
    Basically i have 4 tables -- dept_table, emp_table, time_table, role_table
    dept_table has columns ---> dept_id, dept_name
    emp_table has columns --> emp_name, dept_number, emp_key, emp_id
    time_table ---> time_key, year
    role_table --> time_key, emp_key
    joins:
    emp_table and role_table are joined thru ---- emp_key
    role_table and time_table are joined thru ------ time_key
    dept_table.dept_id = emp_table.dept_number
    parameter of the report:
    year from time_table.
    for example
    the dept_table has 20 depts => 20 dept ids
    the emp_table has 100 employees.
    these 100 employees wud be assigned to one of the 20 depts. (some employees might be given a wrong dept id which actually doesn’t exist)
    Now i need to develop a report with the field columns of the emp_table: emp_id, emp_name, dept_number
    where dept_number is not a valid dept_number (i.e. dept_id not present in dept_table)
    how shud i proceed?
    In discoverer admin, how shud i create the join between the database folders dept_table and emp_table like
    master_item detail_item
    dept_table.dept_id = emp_table.dept_number (???)
    or the other way round???
    under options of create join: what shud be the join details which i need to select ??

    Thanks for the suggestion. But did not work.
    (i) For all the employees that are not assigned to a department.
    I have created the join and the report as u suggested. I have put 4 fields from emp_table and 1 field (i.e. dept_table.dept_id).
    There I could see the employees who are not assigned to any dept has dept_table.dept_id as NULL. So, when I apply the condition dept_table.dept_id IS NULL to pick up all employees without a valid department, it still shows some employees with valid depts.
    i dont understand what to do.
    (ii) I have proceeded just as u suggested. But I dont see all the depts. some depts are filtered by the parameters (this is the main issue).
    I need to have all the depts. and its corresponding employee count irrespective of the parameters.
    Some depts are filtered by the parameters. the dept_table doesnt have any of the parameters. There are three parameters, one from time_table and 2 from emp_table. These 3 parameters are filtering the dept_id s and is not allowing all the depts to show up.

  • I need help/suggestions with the HTC Rhyme

    Hello,
        I have the HTC Rhyme and I am so unhappy with it.  I hate knowing I have to wait until 2014 until I can upgrade.  I am wondering if anyone else has the issues I have with mine.  1.)  Drops calls alot even when I have all bars.  2.) It is very slow if I try to pull something up online.  3.)  My phone numbers seem to disappear at nothing.  3.)  My phone cuts off randomly without my knowing it.  4.)  My charge never lasts long at all.  In fact I had straight talk before and that phone stayed charged forever and it was a smart phone as well.  5.) My apps disappear as well.  6.) When I am talking to family and friends they are always asking me to repeat myself or I cant hear them. 7.)  Trying to send a picture is like pulling teeth about near impossible for me to do.  8.)  Text messages gets to where they are going sometimes and sometimes not.  9.)  And try to find a decent case for this phone is not easy.  In fact I've not found one yet that I like thats not plastic or silicone.
       Is anyone else having these problems.?? I believe my phone is a lemon if I'm the only one having these problems.  I am not a person to complain about things but even my family and friends say I have a piece of crap for a phone.  What do I do??  Just got the phone in May.

    I totally agree with Ginny.  I have had my phone for about a month.  It won't hold a charge.  Someone suggested turning it off overnight to see if it will take a full charge.  After I did, it wouln't come on.  Still didn't get a full charge.  When I place it in the docking station, it gets so hot I can't hold it to my ear.  It is dropping calls even when I have the full bars.  At times, my phone shows that I am still connected on the call, but the other person can't hear me and hang up.  This is crap.  I can't go until 2014 to get a decent phone.  I want a different phone.  I had a little crappy Samsung Galaxy with TMOBILE and it stayed charged, never over heated, seldom dropped calls and I gave it up for THIS?  Surely you people must have some kind of replacement plan with this phone given all the people that are having the same issues that apparently are not getting fixed.  When I switched from TMOBILE, the guy that helped me with my new phone and plan swore by this phone.  I had done my homework and had seen all the negative responses to the phone, so when I asked him about it during his sales pitch, he assured me everything had been updated and it wasn't happening any longer.  Given that he was a Verizon representative, I believed him.

    i made a spry menu bar, and it works on my computers at my house and my computers at school, but on other computers the home page menu bar is in the middle of the page (not on the left side) and on the other pages the menu bar submenus dont go out to the side of that button, its hard to explain but the "designs" button has a sub menu that is supposed to go out to the side of it but it goes out to the side at the top!.. please look at it for me...?

  • Need help/suggestions for an older Macbook a1342 display

    I dropped my A1342 and the display went dead... I could still get video to an external monitor from the side port but the lcd was completely out. It also had a small crack on the top corner so I just assumed that the LCD was shot, but I just replaced it with a new one and the display is still dead. What else could I be missing or should I try?

    These are the directions of OS 10.7. Some of the details are different on other OS.
    1. On your husband's computer, go to System Preferences / Users & Groups and click the padlock to unlock.
    (U & G was called Accounts in older OS - not sure what you have on that older Macbook.)
    2. Click the + sign. That will give you a new pane.
    3. In New Account, select Administrator ( the default is "Standard").
    4. Complete all the other fields.
    After this is done, close that pane. Now back in U & G, select Login Options.
    Set Automatic login to your husband's name.
    Restart the computer, and select your husband's name. Check that all is well.
    You can now, if you wish, go back to U & G, unlock and select your own name and click the - sign. That will remove your name from the computer.
    You will also need to configure Mail for your husband's email with his password. When he first clicks on Mail he will be guided through the setup steps.

    You can find the Crash log in the Windows Event Viewer.
    What you want to do is to get into the Windows Event Viewer.  On a modern system you can hit Start then type event log into the search box, then when View event logs comes up, click it.
    A Photoshop crash will be in the Windows Logs - Application section as an Application Error.
    You'll want to copy the textual description, which should include the Faulting module, and paste it here.  Usually the Faulting module tells us what part of your system is failing.

  • Getting Rid of my Old 14" Analog TV-Need Help & Suggestions

    I am thinking about getting rid of my old 14" analog TV and Verizon provided me with a digital box. I want to replace the TV but it has to be smaller in size. Right now, I have just a white cable going into it.
    1) When I buy a new digital (I need it small in size), will I be able to simply plug this white cable back into the new TV?
    2) I believe I have to return the digital converter but I don't see anywhere on the website on how to do this.
    I am limited in space and would need the same type of connection (not using HDMI). Can anyone recommend a TV small and thin in size that would work?

    Try searching (Google, Amazon,) or looking at R/S, Target, Best Buy, etc for a "portable HDTV".  Mostly all have AC/DC capability and a wall wart so you can plug it in for power.  Then look for one that has a coax connection for a signal in so that you can use a box and won't need to use the antenna provided.
    Most are like small tablets, with a stand.
    On the other hand, there are small (15") HDTVs out there.
    Anything you get in the digital world should be much thinner than your SD.  I'm running  12" and a 15" RCAs SD, and even my 55" HDTV is thinner than either of those
    You will find that you will undoubtedly need a box and when you get an HD box, it will be larger.  That may change your mind
    Otherwise, you can look at thrift stores, etc, to see if there is an old smaller used SD around.

  • Need Help Putting Together a rMBP so I Have Everything I Need...

    Hello-
    I am having trouble getting the right kind of help from "Chat Now" on apple.com and calling in to get my questions/needs taken care of so that when I get the rMBP I will be sure I wil have what I need to go right online and teach the online courses. I even went to the local apple store and woked with a couple sames guys there, but they were not clear in a couple situations on what I would need with the different options the rMBP gives. so I am truning to the great apple forum for additional help.  this might be too much to ask even for tis forum, but if I can learn a little at a time, maybe I can gradually gain the knowledge I need to have a complete and functioning home office for my personal computing needs and my needs as an online teacher at a university back East. My technical knowledge is not the best, so as far as the rMBP goes, a big problem for me is that I do not have the knowledge to make sure I order everything I need with the changes a new rMBP will bring to my current setup (which is just a basic MBP using a wireless router and a USB cable for the printer that I just connect when I need to print). I realizee my current set up on my desk is not the most advanced, but I would need a pro to come to my office and help me get the best set-up for what I am curently using. It seems that the agents I chat with and/or talk to on the phone are aslo lacking in knowledge to help me put together a rMBP that will be ready to fully use and have with the order all that I need so that I do not have to order additional items in a mad rush to be ready for the courses I am teaching online. I have read several articles about the rMBP so that I cold have some knowledge about what I will need but as I said my techie knowledge is lacking. I am looking at the 15" rMBP with all of the full upgrades that the configure option allows one to get. I am not clear if I do run into trouble with my wi fi and have to use my ethernet cable what I will need to do this. I also have programs that are older that I am guesing I will need to install using a DVD player. I would like to hook up the printer I have or a new Canon printer and use it wirelessly, but for now I will most likely be using it with a USB cable. I am not clear on the thunderbolt technology and if I should get any of these cables for any of the connections. I also would like to get a great speaker system and will need to hook that up, but I am not clear on the best way to do this. I have been wanting an iMac, but I am not sure what is a good slection to get and how to connect it to the rMBP or one of the other 2 older MBPs I currently have.
    If somebody could list for me what I would need to have a complete rMBP that will allow me to do these hookups and connections and explain what would be the best way to complete the various connections so that I have all that I will need to get up and running, I would really appreciate it. Because I do not have any USB 3.0 cables or cables for various additional connections, I would need help/suggestions in this area. I realize this is hard to do not seeing my office, but since I will be starting new with the purchase of the new rMBP and hopefully an iMac (and a new Canon printer and new set of great sounding speakers) getting some advice on what I should order for the various connections would be a hugh help. Part of the problem is with the rMBP and not having used one of these in the past. I know some of the differences with this machine like the lack of an internal SuperDrive and the new ports, but I do not know what cables I will need that will utilize the newer technology this machine and an imac will bring to my office.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, even if you do not give me specific answers, but an idea, for example, of what I might need to connect the speaker system (knowing the best way the new speaker system shold be connected to the rMBP and/or the iMac. I am not even clear if I do want to use the iMac with the rMBP for teaching with a larger display what I will need to connect the imac to the rMBP. is this done by an HDMI cable and if so is there a specific type or example you could mention that is on apple.com?

    There are many differences with the new rMBP. There are ports that I am not sure what I would use them for.  Even the ethernet cable I use now to get the internet will not work with the rMBP.  I thought there would be some additional help on here.  as far as configuring the rMBP there are just a few options but the differences between an older MBP and the new rMBP is great.  No need to reply I will turn off email notifications. I gave as much information as I did because in the past I was told to give more information.

    Im a bit a newbie myslef but i think you make flash
    commuincate to javascript wich will make the browser goto the URL.
    do a search on getURL and javascript together and i am sure
    you will find something.
    And when slecting to redirct i think its on?(onPress)
    something so maybe look throught the help section in flash 8 and
    look at componets. I think there is some actionscript help there.

    I can give a few suggestions on Photoshop CC 2014, but Lightroom is a separate forum and you should ask Lr questions there.
    First close Photoshop.
    Then start Photoshop by double-clicking on it's icon and very quickly after that, hold down the ctrl-alt-shift keys until you see the reset dialog. answer "Yes" to delete settings, and let Photoshop continue to load.
    It's tricky to do and may take a few tries, but at least it should reset Photoshop CC 2014 to defaults.
