WMA FIles Windows DRM

I just purchased a new Charlotte Martin CD and it will not transfer into my iTunes folder or onto my iPod. The files are WMA Windows DRM. I can only play them through Windows Media Player. How can I get them on my iPod?

You're the best Kevin87!! I have been working on this for the past month - nothing worked - if I wrote everything I did, I could write a novel...
This is what I did - it is long, but it actually worked...
copied original CD to hard drive
go into Windows Media - to change the format - right click on either Rip or Burn - Tools-Options-Rip Music tab - change format to MP3 - okay
burn hard drive copy to blank CD
rip copied CD - it automatically ripped into iTunes
then import to library through iTunes - as you normally would
Give that a try Timothy - hope it works for you as well...good luck

  • Zen Micro - copying WMA files with DRM using WM

I have Windows 98SE and Windows Media Player 9. I was wondering, if I get a Zen Micro, will I be able to use WMP 9 to copy DRM-protected WMA files to my device, or do I have to use the Creative software? I read in another post something about the 2.x branch of the firmware being needed for Plays For Sure compatibility -- does this mean I would need this firmware to use WMP? Does the 2.x firmware have the fixes for the battery drain problem, etc.
One more question. With my Muvo TX FM, Windows Explorer recognizes it as a removable dri've, and I can drag-and-drop non-DRM MP3s directly to it. Is this possible with the Zen Micro?
    Thanks,
    Huck

  • How to Identify whether my WMA file is DRM protected?

A friend just loaded some audio files of our lecture class onto my computer that are .wma files from a usb drive recorder she owns. I downloaded one or two programs to try to convert them so I could play them on iTunes but the programs didn't work.
I can play them on QuickTime but I would really like to be able to play them on my iPhone and format/organize them on my iTunes (since that is where all of my other audio files are).
I'm worried they aren't converting correctly because they are DRM-protected, though I don't know why they would be! Can anyone tell me where to find out in the audio file if the file is DRM protected or not?

I can play them on QuickTime
They're not protected. Try using Switch or EasyWMA.

  • Converting a wma file (windows media audio) to a Mp3 file for iTunes.

I copied all of my music from my external harddrive that i have had for a long time now onto my MacBook. Some of the files were wma while most were Mp3. is there anyway that i can convert the files on my mac to make them mp3 and playable on my itunes and put on my nano. I have tried many times to add the songs to my library and then convert them, but they don't appear in my library but they still play when i use quicktime.

The files play in Quicktime likely because you have the Flip4Mac plugin installed. As for iTunes, it doesn't support WMA files, so they won't be imported.
You can try EasyWMA to convert the WMA files to MP3, M4A, or WAV. I have not tried this program, though.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to play WMA files encoded with DRM on M

    Hi -
I downloaded and installed the drivers, firmware and apps recommended by Creative Labs to support transferring wma files with drm to the muvo through the creative media source. However when I attempt to transfer I encounter an "Error transferring files" every time. I can play the files on my laptop (windows 2000 sp4) using the cms player, but I still cannot transfer them to the muvo. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
    stpal

thanks for the quick reply. i should clarify that the files are downloaded (walmart.com) in .wma with drm. strange but i reinstalled the firmware (v.40) and out of the ten files I downloaded i was able to transfer 6 of them using cms or wmp 9.0. the remaining 4 still errored out with the same error. by trial and error i was able to figure out that by playing them locally (which acquires the license) I could then successfully transfer them. thanks for the help.

  • Possible to convert DRM protected WMA files to mp3?

I've been attempting to find a relatively simple way of converting DRM-protected WMA files to mp3 using my Mac and can't seem to find anything. Surely somebody must have figured this out by now. I can convert non-DRM WMA files to mp3 using EasyWMA, but this does not work for WMA files with DRM protection.
I want to purchase songs from the 7digital store that are in the WMA format and have DRM protection, convert them to MP3 on my iMac, and then import them into iTunes. Seems like it shouldn't be that hard.
    Any suggestions?

iTunes Windows will convert non-DRM tunes into .mp3. If you have iTS purchases that have DRM you can burn them to an audio format CD as AIFF file format.
Check the terms of use and see what your options are for converting them to another format. With iTunes the path is to burn an audio CD. See if that is possible with the wma DRM.
Likely in your case you are trying to crack DRM outside the original terms of use when you purchased the tunes.

  • WMA file to iTunes

I have thousands of WMA music files on a thumb drive and I want to bring them permanently into my iTunes. I have tried everything I understand, which is very little. Copy and drag. Downloads from Cnet and Windows and Apple but nothing works. Even though I have been using a PC for 30 years, this is my first Mac, I cannot figure out how to use this machine except for how to get on the Internet. The nearest Mac store is a 4 hour round trip drive so that is out of the question.

    You can use -> Switch.
If these WMA files have DRM, you cannot convert them.

  • N73 ME won't play WMA files

I've recently downloaded 1 music track as a WMA file and have transferred it to my N73. I updated the music library and it shows as 1 of my tracks but when I go to play it, it jumps to the next track.
I thought it might've needed to be converted so I tried to do that via Nokia Music Manager but it says it's "either unable to convert this file type or it's already in the correct file format".
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Is it a protected (DRM, Digital Rights Management) WMA file? Perhaps the N73 ME doesn't support WMA files with DRM?
Does an unprotected (without DRM) WMA file work?

  • Converting protected (DRM) WMA files

alright: so i got a song online from the [Ballyhoo Music Store|http://www.ballyhoomusic.com/P-1999999339/C-1999998609/eChannel.isl], but the only format it was available in was a protected (DRM) WMA file. i didn't read that it wasn't compatible with iTunes until afterword, so after i downloaded it i tried to import it into iTunes. however, iTunes said that the file needed to be converted to AAC. but, since it's a protected WMA file, iTunes couldn't convert it. Is there a way for me to get iTunes to be able to convert this???
also, while searching online, i found [this method|http://uk.geocities.com/thetomcatslair/Entertainment/DRM/drm.html] to removing the DRM from a WMA file, which, although lengthy, is supposed to help preserve much of the audio quality. however, this method requires Windows Media Player 9, and i have Window Media Player 11. I was able to uninstall WMP 11, but that just took me back to WMP 10. from there, i couldn't figure out how to uninstall WMP 10 to get to WMP 9 - WMP 10 didn't appear in the "add/remove programs" list - even when i chose to "show updates." so, as another part of this post, is there a way for me to get back to WMP 9???
    thanks in advance!!!

It is against the forum term of use to discuss evading DRM
    http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa#terms
However terms of use of your protected track may allow you to burn it onto and audio CD in WMP - which you could then use as you would any audio CD.

  • Split & Import WMA file from windows to mac

I have bought several wma files online that are rights managed that I want to play on my ipod. A few days ago, I found a workaround to getting them from the internet to my ipod - download file on the windows side of my mac (I have XP installed and use boot camp), play for a few seconds on the windows media player to acquire the license, burn to CD and then go back to the mac side and use CD to download songs to itunes, then to ipod. Works great except for this problem:
I just bought a file that is too large to get onto an audio CD. I am trying to use software to split the file but I think the license is preventing me from doing this. Anyone have a suggestion?

I'm not sure that solves my problem. I still have to start on the windows side to acquire the license by playing the file a few seconds on a windows media player. Then I have to burn the file onto an audio CD in order to import it into itunes on the mac side. My problem is the size of the file is preventing me from burning it onto a CD. I'm not sure how a program like Switch would help.

  • How to convert WMA files (from Windows Media Player) to play in iTunes

How do I convert WMA files (from Windows Media Player) to now play in iTunes?

Use Edit > Preferences > General tab > Import Settings to set your desired import format and bitrate. Note there is no point converting 128k wma into 320k mp3, you'll just get bigger files with no improvement in quality. Once you have set your import settings just drag & drop the files you want converted into iTunes.

i have ripped cds on to windows media player but i am trying to transfer them over to itunes except it does not like wma files is there anything i can do

It should work... when I got my first iPod I transferred my entire library over and it was all .wma files. What specific steps have you tried?

  • .wma file crashing finder

I can't open or even navigate to a .wma audio file without my finder crashing. I managed to almost get the Get Info to work, and it was halfway through opening the info before the finder froze, and crashed again.
Currently, my finder is non-existent, but Safari still works. I found a similar thread on Apple Discussions (where it was suggested that the Get Info be opened and "Open with" changed to Quicktime.
This is so weird. Not a biggie, but if there's some reason for this happening, I'd love to know why!
Edit: An online convertor doesn't even work, it can't seem to see the .wma file. So weird, I question Microsoft's conniving little schemes.

If EasyWMA converter doesn't work, it probably is a newer version, or has DRM applied to it, preventing conversion.

  • Importing a wma file into iTunes

How can import this file and, if it requires converting the file first to a different format, how do I do that?
    Thanks!

iTunes for OS X does not have the ability to import WMA files.
One issue I know about importing Windows Media Audio (wma) files is described here:
iTunes for Windows cannot import or play WMA files that are protected by Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM). These files usually come from other online music stores. Additionally, Windows Media Player encodes CDs to protected WMA format by default, though you may change that setting.
Both the above come from this article:

  • WMA file iss

Hi; I have a MuVo2 FM. purchased in December. I am trying to transfer files from my computer hard dri've using the Creative software to the player. My son has loaded files from MMJB as well as various CDs. All the files are listed in the inventory as WMA. All the MMJB files were the .99 purchases. I get an error message on the file transfer. I see much has been written on this, but most of the issues were re MMJB songs and not CDs. I am running Windows 98 (which might be a problem) but the MP3 files worked fine.
I checked and there were no SW upgrades. I don't know how to deal with the WMA files to change them.
Also the Quick Start book refers to a User Guide which does not appear to be on the CD?

    BigJuan,
Are you using MediaSource to transfer the files over? If not, try that and see if it makes a difference. The downloaded WMA files most likely have DRM-protection. Depending on what settings (and software) your son used to rip CDs to WMA, they may have DRM-protection aswell.
