WMA- mp3

I was looking to convert WMA files to something my iTunes can read. Are there any free apps out there that can do the trick?

EasyWMA is another possibility. This of course presumes that the WMAs are not copy protected. If they are copy protected, there is no Mac application that can play nor convert them.

  • WMA v MP3 format - advice please

WMA v MP3 format - advice pleaseT I have a Zen Vision M and previously had a Zen Touch.
I have always used WMA format when ripping CD's as it is the default setting in Media Player, which is my preferred program. The rest of my family have gone over to the "dark side" (!)?and have iPod's and the iPlayer uses MP3 format as its default. My husband who used to have a Zen Touch, is very smug about how much less space what used to almost fill his Zen now takes in his?iPod.
So, I now have very little room left on my 60 GB and was wondering about converting everything into MP3 format to make more space, but seem to remember being told?once about MP3 format being poorer quality?
I'd be grateful for any comments/advice on the following:
    - Is converting everything worth the effort and will it actually take less space?
    - Is MP3 better/worse quality, is there any difference anymore?
    - Are MP3 files ok on the Zen?
    - I understand I'll need conversion software - any recommendations?
    Thank you for your help!

This has been a "raging" discussion for years and years! Here's my take (long time digital music user):
WMA is far better for low bitrate (under 28kbs). 28 kbs is nowhere near "cd quality" in ANY format (wma, mp3, acc). 92kbs is good quality in all formats. Audiophiles (picky listeners) will insist on Ogg Vorbis (?), Lossless wma, etc. files no matter what. I can't tell the difference between aac, wma or mp3 at 92kbs or above. I listen to compressed files on a portable player or in a car (or worse...on a motorcycle). The background noise is usually enough and earphones/speakers poor enough that it really does not make a huge difference what format (or often what bitrate) you use in these instances.
Here's what I've been doing; rip to mp3 92kbs VBR--good quality, reasonable file size. Transfer to my Zen(s) using WMP. I set the player options to re-code files to 64kbs wma files for the Zen(s). Max number of songs that way, small file size, good battery life (wma uses more power than mp3 AT THE SAME BITRATE--but at 64kbs is uses LESS power than a higher bitrate mp3--you'll notice longer battery life).
Many may cringe at my 64kbs wma choice (except Microsoft, who claim this sounds "cd quality" ---NOT). For me, it sounds good enough for a portable copy, but NOT my main copy. WMP will automatically recode these for you on the fly and not clutter up your hard dri've with multiple copies of the same song. It also only puts the 64kps file on your Zen and leaves the better copy (in my case, my 92kbs mp3 file) intact. I now rip to mp3 because it is the defacto default format for everything.
This is just what I've been doing. I tried a lot of different things before, but my latest system seems to work fine.
Note: Most of the new "DRM Free" mp3 downloads are 256kbs mp3. They sound great. Honestly, I cannot tell the difference in nearly all cases from a 92kbs mp3 file, but on a good stereo I'm sure there are those who can. I really never listen to mp3 files? on my good stereo. I have REAL cds (and even a bunch of "super audio cds" ) for that.

  • Jukebox lockup with WMA &

When I have audio files of both MP3 and WMA on my 20G Jukebox 3 and using the latest firmware (.40.06p) my pplayer lock-up. At first I thought that I had hardri've problems. I did everything but reformat. Finally I removed the library and reloaded with mainly WMA (28) files with some MP3. I typically select a bunch of songs/artisits/albums and play in radmon mode. If I have MP3 files in my playlist my jukebox will lockup (freeze, stay powered-on but not playing and no response to any buttons). I have selected a group of WMA songs only and it plays all day no problem. I only started noticing this problem with the last two (?) versions of firmware.
I know that the firmware has not been updated in over a year so I assume that no one is working on it, but it would be nice to be able to mix music formats. I had almost stopped using my jukebox but decided to give it another try (I don't know why I decided to focus on music format as a potential issue, I think I had read somewhere that there were issues with WMA files and the jukebox locking up).

Maybe it was on your page that I saw that WMA cause lockup. I've been playing both WMA & MP3 for years. It maybe the transistion from MP3 to WMA that causes my lockup. I prefer the quality of WMA-28 over MP3-28 so all of my new ripping is WMA.
My solution now is not to mix the two formats and everything is fine. I'll convert my MP3 files to WMA (I know the quality may suffer a little) but now I can use my player.
    Thanks.

  • Itunes crashes when importing music (v10.5.2.11, Win 7 (64))

iTunes crashes whenever I try to import either a file or folder - regardless of the file format (e.g. WMA, MP3 etc.).
This is only a recent problem.  Is the only option to try to re-install iTunes?
    Thanks for any assistance.

I have had the same problem & itunes crashes when i try to import a file. Now i can't even start itune. I've reinstalled itunes so many times, without a fix, I've lost count.

  • Help -- can't transfer ANYTHING to my new visio

I just bought a new zen vision:m. it looks nice, but i am having a very difficult time transfering anything to it.
    here is the problem:
I plugged the vision:m into my computer the first day and was able to charge it. Using Napster, I was able to transfer ~200 songs before getting "Unknown transfer error"s. Since then, when I connect the device to my computer, the vision:m says "docked", it charges, and the arrows on the screen dance around for about 90 seconds. During this 90 second period after plugging the device into my computer, any program that I have opened to transfer files (i.e., Napster, the Creative Zen Vision M Media Explorer, or Windows Media Player) freezes. After some time, the arrows stop dancing (but the screen still says "docked" and the battery continues to charge) and I have control of the software again. However, none of the programs can access the device. Trying to transfer music using Napster results in more "transfer error"s ... using the Creative Media Explorer results in an "unable to read from or write to device error" or just shows me an empty explorer window (i.e., "drag files here" ) ... Win Media Player gives similar complaints ("can't sync with device", etc.).
    here are the basics:
    --vision:m (2 days old, firmware version .40.02)
    --WinXP (service pack 2)
    --Windows Media player 0.00.00.4036
    --downloaded/installed recommended fixes
    Windows Media Format 9.5 Runtime:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/8922
    DRM performance fix:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902344
    Fix for large data transfers
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/89536
--Napster to-go subscription (shouldn't really matter because I can't transfer DRM-WMA, MP3, photos, or videos)
Does anyone have any ideas? Please help. I should also mention that this is replacing an old Dell 20GB DJ (weren't the Dell's just Creatives in sheep's clothing?) that does work on this computer. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. I really like my Vision:M ... although I don't think I can justify keeping it as a $200 radio if the file transfers don't work.
    Thanks in advance,
    ~Jeff

veggiegirl (and anyone else reading this thread),
thanks for the info ... unfortunately, it didn't help.
i ran "clean disk" and tried again. same as before ... when i plug the vision into my computer, the arrows spin around for some time (during this time, napster, media player, and zen media explorer freeze up), then the arrows stop and i get control of the software back. it's almost like the vision "times out" because both napster and zen media explorer both know when the device is plugged in versus unplugged, but neither one of them can actually "talk" to the vision.
ideas? anyone? anyone? please tell me i don't have to get an iPod.
    thanks again.

  • No 24-bit 96 kHz audio in media pla

I have a vista premium HTPC and a Audigy 2 NX USB sound card connected to a NAD analogue stereo used mainly for TV and music listening with a 2. focal system. Vista is fully updated. I checked 24 bit 96-kHz audio in Vista when i installed it in march -06 and had no audio problems. Some time ago i experienced audio cutting of suddenly while watching or recording TV. I checked the audio settings and found that all ripped audio (wma/mp3) in media player was dead silent without error messages. CD audio works but no ripped material. 24-bit 48 kHz worked, but not 96kHz. Other media players like winamp or foobar2000 plays in 96 kHz, but not media player/media center, is the codec broken or what?. How is the bit depth and frequency you set in creative media console related to the settings in vista? Does it matter what signal the nx is getting in the USB cable? What is the optimal setting in vista and creative audio console?

Doen't matter which faders you use. The final output is all that matters.
For digital broadcasting we use -20dB as the standard tone level. Our max peak (max) runs around -6 dB. Most of the music is much lower because it's RMS value is so much higher that the music is a lot fuller in volume. It goes over poorly when they flip on the video and get blasted out of their chairs.

  • Does Pre7 support BWF wave files?

I understand a little about BWF files, but I was looking at purchasing a recorder that only records to BWF format. I was wondering if Premiere Elements 7 supports BWF files or will I need to work the files in another software program before Pre can use it.

    Hi,
BWF, short from Broadcast Wave Format, is an extension of the popular Microsoft WAVE audio format. BWF is the recording format of most file-based non-linear digital recorders used for motion picture, radio and television production. BWF is a WAV audio format to a certain degree. The only difference between a BWF and a "normal" WAV is the extended information in the file header (Bext-Chunk, Coding-History, etc...), which also limits the compatibility of BWF files. BWF is incompatible with Mac computers, most media players, portable devices or editing software.
To get rid of the file compatibility limitation, a recommended way is to convert BWF to WAV,WMA,MP3 and so on.
Recommend Bigasoft Audio Converter. This converter can solve the issue for you.

  • Okay Creative - what's going

Is Creative trying to purposely alienate its current customer base?
There was a time when I would sing their praises over virtually all other MP3 player manufacturers, but now?
    No more.
Since installing this plays for sure firmware, hundreds of consumers have had problems. You only want to look at this forum for an idea of how many. And they're only the English speaking ones who've happened across this board!
I used to use MediaSource to convert my CDs to MP3, direct to my player. What do I now find? The MediaSource version that is compatible with my new firmware "update" does not have the facility to do this. No - you have to buy the WAV/WMA -> MP3 converter from Creative for US$0...
Great news for me who lost hundreds of MP3 music files for some unknown reason when transferring to and from my PC in order to...you guessed it..."upgrade" my firmware. Sure, it's only 0 bucks, but why pay for something that was free before we were unwittingly seduced into installing this crappy firmware?
Now getting my PC to recognise my player is a struggle. I get there eventually, but whereas it used to take seconds, now we're talking minutes.
Especially with the once ultra-quick Red Chair Notmad which has now become just another $30 download sitting on my PC underperforming.
    Great.
Can't just be coincidence that this is all since the firmware update, can it's

    Nail.
    On.
    Head.
However - you would expect Creative to hold their hands up and say "Look - we know there are problems, here's how to fix them, here's a troubleshooter which works, here's the email address for our customer service department in case you're still struggling and we WILL get back to you..." but, no.
It seems they're just content to sit on their hands and get slagged off by all and sundry.
    Why?

I downloaded and installed the SDK of Motorola and when i run my application i get the error:
    "createPlayer() filed"
I added to my code the following lines:
    String[] types = Manager.getSupportedContentTypes(protocol);
              for(int i = 0; i < types.length; i++) {
                   append(new TextField("http", types, 20, TextField.ANY));
When i run the RAZR_v3x Emolator i get that the only video format which it supports is .mng, but i checked in Motorola web site about this device and i saw that it supports MPEG4, WMA, MP3 and Real Video/Audio files.
    Do you something about that??
    Thanks

  • MuVo TX FM Adding song prob

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me. I reci'ved an MuVo TX FM for Christmas and i can't figure out how to add songs to it. I have look all over this site and can not find anything on how to add them. My computer is a Dell Windows Xp, also. Please help me out!
    --Michael

It should be in the manual... but basically you connect the player to the PC and it should appear as a dri've letter in Windows Explorer. You then copy supported audio files e.g. WMA, MP3, to the player as the dri've letter. Once copied you disconnect the player and the songs should be there and available to play.

The weird thing is that the player works just fine, I can listen to the music already stored inside, but when I connect it to any computer (I tried about 5 different now), there is no response at all!! It is not even recognized as 'new hardware' or 'other hardware' in the device manager!!
However, the player shows the tipical "connected" screen when I plug it in!
    Someone Help me!! XD
And Thanks for at least trying

It should be in the manual... but basically you connect the player to the PC and it should appear as a dri've letter in Windows Explorer. You then copy supported audio files e.g. WMA, MP3, to the player as the dri've letter. Once copied you disconnect the player and the songs should be there and available to play.

  • Will there be a patch beta?

I, like many, have experienced the iTunes 5 services related problem.
Is sounds as if Apple is working to correct this problem with a patch
My question is - Does Apple run a (closed or open) Beta for their patches and product revs?
I have found runnin a real (not marketing driven) beta to be quite valuable in improving robustness, ensuring compatibility, and exposing problems that the (often overworked and underpowered) SQA team simply isn't going to catch (esp if we're talking a port to a system that isn't native to the dev)
I would expect, like other products, there to be technical folks who use your products perfectly willing to run beta SW and so equipped to run on a test platform so that danger to data or functionality of a primary working system is not compromised
I realize that marketing tends to want to use Betas as a "buzz generator" and that the "product image" tends to be more of the "monolithic/automagic it just works" tenor, but I think we all realize that it is still a technical product and that even the sleekest automobile has an engine under the aerodynamic hood and I honestly don't see running betas (probably closed) as being counter to this. Instead it would show the development as responsve and dilligent.

    You're right. It's a joke.
I enable 24bit crystalizer and cmss-3dsurround/cmss-3dheadphone and encode in wma format. The superrip sound come out hollow and dull compare to a normal rip wma/mp3 format. Any creative representati've can reply to this?
Why would you like to add permanent effects to your music files?
