.wma protected files not importing to iTunes

i just bought a few songs from Puretracks, only to find out that when I try to import them to iTunes it won't let me because the files are "protected." Does anybody know how unprotect them or just make it so I can listen to them on my iPod?
thanks

I forgot to mention: when I try to import the files
iTunes prompts me to convert to AAC. After I click
'convert' it says it can't because it's a protected
file.
iTunes is trying to do what you want since iTunes doesn't PLAY .wma ... apparently it doesn't know the music is protected until it tries to do the conversion.

  • ALAC files not importing into iTunes

I'm using the latest 12.0.1.26 iTunes on a Dell Studio XPS (with an intel i7 processor and 2 TB SSD drive), which I use to run three Apple Airports dotted around the house and am having a problem playing ALAC files which I've converted from FLAC files bought from HighResAudio.com.
They play ok with VLC but when I try to add the folder or file into iTunes nothing seems to happen, or if I select 'play with' and pick iTunes, then iTunes starts up ok but the file doesn't appear or play at all.
I've just started re-recording my cd collection in ALAC format which all play fine when recorded directly into iTunes.
The problem is with these high resolution files (Mike Oldfield's new Man On The Rocks album) which I bought to try the supposedly 'better than cd/studio' quality sound which were only available as FLAC files. I then converted these with 'free studio audio converter' and as I said, the converted files play fine on VLC.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

    Thanks ad2345.
I tried a different converter and also changed the playback preferences -which was down at 44.1kHz- up to 96kHz as I know the hi res files are supposed to be up at this level.
Not sure if it was one or the other of your suggestions, or both, but it has worked, so many thanks for your quick and effective help!

  • Video Files not importing into iTunes Library.

I have been converting my movie file into mp4 format so i can use them on my iPod video. I converted all of the files and then added their folder to the iTunes Library, but only some fo the videos show up. I have tried to add these files individually, changing their names, even moving them to antoher folder and adding them. What can I do to get these files into the library and on to my iPod?

I wish i knew. It seems to be very random in which videos it doesn't add. Is it too much to ask to watch SNL clips on my iPod?

  • Getting protected wma files to import into itunes

i have a couple of wma files that are protected and will not import into itunes because of the protected content. is there any way around this?

If you are able to burn those protected files to an audio CD, then that audio CD will act like any CD that you would purchase in your local store.

  • WMA protected files

hello all, I am sure this topic has been addressed before, but I couldnt find the information needed. My grandkids gave me an IPod Nano which I want to download EAudiobooks to. I followed the procedure outlined by the library, but when transfering to the IPod, got the error message that it cannot convert 'wma protected' files. Any hope of making this work? or do I need a different type of IPod? Thanks in advance and happy Holidays!

Neither the iPod or iTunes can read WMA files, nor can iTunes convert "protected" WMA files into a format that the iPod can read and play.
The only way would be to burn these files to an "audio" cd and import that into iTunes as you would any other cd.

Real Media files are proprietary and are not supported by iTunes in any way shape or form

  • ITunes cannot get CD track names for CDs that were not imported with iTunes

I have a number of WAV files and MP3 files that already have album information. I would like to erase that information and have it replaced using the "Get CD Track Names" function, but keep receiving an error message of "iTunes cannot get CD track names for CDs that were not imported with iTunes." Is there some way to strip the previous information and replace it with information that iTunes receives with the "Get CD Track Names" function?

Programs like itunes use characteristics of the CD such as track duration and sequence to identify CDs. Potentially this could be modified in a very small manner (maybe even a millisecond) in converting to a different format so maybe itunes doesn't even want to try getting the information for other formats.
You can certainly replace whatever information you wish by "get info" on a single or multiple selection of files and entering the data by hand.

Files not imported because they could not be read.  L5.3 on Mac from SD card in reader RAW photos and video visible when card inserted but not able to import.  Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

This message means that you don't have permission to write to the destination folder or disk drive. This is an operating system issue that can be resolved by changing permissions. And you can get plenty of information on how to do that by doing a web search for "change disk permissions".

  • I've just changed from a PC to a mac and have a large number of downloaded WMA music files (not i-tunes purchases) which I just can't get into my i-tunes library. File converters don't seem to work either. Any ideas?

I've just changed from a PC to a mac and have a large number of downloaded WMA music files which I can't get into i-tunes. When the library was in Windows, i-tunes would convert the files automatically, but this doesn't happen now. I've downloaded a couple of file converters, but these don't seem to work either. Any ideas?

iTunes for Windows (but not iTunes for Mac) can import and convert unprotected WMA tracks. If the tracks are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) then it will not accept them.
One option would be to install iTunes on your PC, do the conversion, and then transfer the converted tracks from iTunes on your PC to iTunes on your Mac.

  • Protected songs not showing in iTunes

I recently moved my iTunes to a new computer. Everything showed up in iTunes except for an audiobook that was purchased from the iTunes store. It is in the iTunes music folder. It shows the files as protected, but other things that were purchased from the store that also have protection work fine. What are the other reasons that the audiobook wouldn't be importing into iTunes? Could it have anything to do with the fact that the individual pieces of the (unabridged) audiobook are so long, routinely well more than an hour apiece?
I'd appreciate any help that I can get.

Not familiar with that software, but protected AAC files contain DRM protection and can only be played by iTunes or an Apple device.
You can burn to CD and rip back into your library.

  • Sound files not importing

I have a problem while trying to import any sound file into flash CS5.5. I have not successfully done it since purchasing the program. I have tried opening the file in a sound editor and saving it, as well as trying to convert to a different sound type that is still Flash compatible. I'm trying with .mp3 and .wav files mostly. The error messages i receive are "Couldn't import C://*file location* or else i get"One or more files were not imported because there were problems reading them." I havent figured out a pattern as to why either might be showing or the connection to the file.

there may be something wrong with the mp3. sometimes i receive mp3 files from clients that i can't import into flash. when that happens, i drag the mp3 into iTunes, select the file, click advanced, click create mp3 version. iTunes creates a new mp3 file which i click and drag out of iTunes (which creates a copy of that new file) into my job folder. flash imports the mp3 i dragged into the job folder. then i go back and delete both versions out of iTunes.
note: if you don't see that option in iTunes, go to iTunes preferences > general > import settings > mp3 encoder

  • Files not created with iTunes do not play from remote iTunes library

I hve ripped a large part of my CD collection into music files into FLAC format. I have since converted my music files from FLAC into Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) format and imprted them into iTunes.
The files play with no problem on iTunes if they are on a local iTunes library. Furthermore, all metadata such as tags and album cover art information are properly displayed in iTunes. This is true whether I'm running iTunes on a Windows XP box or a Mac OS X box. I have since imported many other CDs into my iTunes library using iTunes to encode into ALAC.
If I share the iTunes library on my Windows XP machine to iTunes running on a Mac OS X box or to an Apple TV, I can:
*play songs that were imported directly using iTunes
*not play any songs that were not created with iTunes
This behavior is true whether I'm trying to play them from either a Mac or from an Apple TV.
If I copy the *.m4a files to the Mac and import them to the iTunes library I have no problems playing them on the Mac. I have not tried sharing the iTunes library on the Mac and tried accessing the files from the Apple TV or the Windows PC.
    Any thoughts?

Fix: optimize m4a files moving the meta data to the beginning, whilst optionally creating a hint track (used for streaming m4a over Apple Airtunes).
