WMA "Switch Free" MP3

I read a previous post on how to switch from wma to mp3 and they recommeneded Switch Free. Only thing is I think I converted the files but now I can't find them. Can someone tell me how Switch works and where my files are

    Tag editors are very much a personal choice. MP3 Library isn't flashy, but it's **bleep** powerful.

    Did you ever get an answer to your question about converting wma files?
    I received some promotional free downloads from a contest and when I downloaded them, they are all wma and I can not get them into my itunes. I click the button that says "convert" when prompted, but then it says it is illegal or something to convert it.

  • Converting wma's into mp3s

    Hi,
    I have a Zen Xtra with about a third of my files as mp3s and the rest in wma format. I've tried converting the remaining wma's into mp3s using Creatuve Media Source but it says that 'file conversion is not supported.' Even though its not necessary to turn my wma files into mp3s, I would still prefer all the files to be of the same format. Can anyone help me out? Do I need to download an update of Creative Media Source?

    Try updating to the latest version of MediaSource, 3.30.2, from this site.
    DRM stands for "digital rights management"; it's most commonly used on files downloaded from legal download services. However, some versions of WMP add DRM restrictions to ripped music, which may block certain actions. In WMP 0, choose Tools > Options, then the Rip Music tab; make sure the "Copy protect music" box is NOT checked. (It's unchecked by default in WMP 0, but was checked by default in some earlier versions of WMP.) If it is checked, uncheck it, then re-rip the CDs.

    iTunes for Mac can't handle WMA files, iTunes for winsloth can.
    if you have access to a PC, use iTunes there to convert the files. alternatively, you can get EasyWMA and use that app.
    the files need to be unprotected in both cases.

    I've been attempting to find a relatively simple way of converting DRM-protected WMA files to mp3 using my Mac and can't seem to find anything. Surely somebody must have figured this out by now. I can convert non-DRM WMA files to mp3 using EasyWMA, but this does not work for WMA files with DRM protection.
    I want to purchase songs from the 7digital store that are in the WMA format and have DRM protection, convert them to MP3 on my iMac, and then import them into iTunes. Seems like it shouldn't be that hard.
    Any suggestions?

    iTunes Windows will convert non-DRM tunes into .mp3. If you have iTS purchases that have DRM you can burn them to an audio format CD as AIFF file format.
    Check the terms of use and see what your options are for converting them to another format. With iTunes the path is to burn an audio CD. See if that is possible with the wma DRM.
    Likely in your case you are trying to crack DRM outside the original terms of use when you purchased the tunes.

    I need to find a way to convert .WMA files to .MP3 format; with Snow Leopard, I could do that using iTunes, but since upgrading to Lion, I can convert the files to a .mov format in Quick Time, but cannot move the file into iTunes in order to convert it to .MP3. If you can suggest a work-around or an app that will work with Lion, would be much appreciated.

    There is a free alternative, not that I condone getting angry in a forum. Theres a very good Quicktime plug-in called "Flip4Mac" that allows WMV files to be viewed in Quicktime. It also supports WMA files. Once this plug-in is installed you simply have to open the file in Quicktime and export it to some other format (anything but mp3 unfortunately) using the "Export" menu. It comes with the added bonus of being able to watch Windows Media files in Quicktime. It doesn't get any easier than that.
    And for the record, the frustration is quite unbecoming.
