WMP freezes up on

My Windows Media Player keeps freezing up when I start a Sync & am moving files to my Zen V. I can sometimes get it to work when I only try to send mp3. However, whenever I try to send multiple mp3s over to the device it will usually freeze up at about 40%. At that point, I cannot only go into Task Manager & shut down Media Player because it is "Not Responding".
I'm getting the same results w/ Winamp.
My Zen V is running .0.03 firmware. Do I need a better driver for my USB ?

Nobody has a suggestion for this ? I've done searches on the forum & was only able to find other threads about WMP freezing up - but no responses to those either !
Somebody help please ! Creative's phone support is a waste of time !
thank you !

  • ITunes & WMP freeze when importing 2nd CD

Sorry if this is repetitive, but haven't got this figured out yet. At first I thought it was just iTunes, but i've found that WMP 11 also freezes. I am able to import an initial CD without a problem, but when I put in the next one to rip/import, my computer completely freezes and I have to power off/on to get it started again. I've tried many suggestions in this and other forums with no luck. I also contaced Gateway computer support which didn't help. Any suggestions are grealy appreciated. Here's the diagnostics:

For anyone who may be having this same problem, I may have found a work-around! I still don't know what's causing the problem, but maybe this will give someone out there a clue to solve it. I have found a way to import consecutive CD's without the freeze-up. Try following these steps:
    1) Import the first CD (no problems)
    2) Eject the CD and CLOSE iTunes
    3) Load the next CD into the drive BEFORE opening iTunes
    4) Open iTunes and the CD imports without a problem!
Haven't tried to see if this works around the same problem I was having with WMP yet, but suspect it does. So it appears that the problem may be with the drive or program not being able to 'reset' after importing the first CD??? Hope this helps someone figure out the root of the problem, and in the mean time hopefully you can at least get your music onto your pod without having to power off/on after every CD!

  • WMP freezes when installing

    Hi
I can download Windows Media Player and Stuffit expands it into 'Windows Media Installer' but then it always freezes when installing...gah...does anyone know anything about this?
[I've read the other topics where people can't get it to expand, but this is different...no error messages or anything]
    Thanks!

  • Zen Micro freezed when syncing, now freezes when trying to reload or upgrade firmw

Got a Zen Micro, firmware 2..02
I started having problems syncing with my home PC, which uses XP SP2 with Windows Media Player . Trying to sync resulted in a freezed WMP an, after a while returned an error saying it couldn't communicate with Zen Micro or just showed that all the files to be transfer had been stopped.
Tried to sync in my office, XP SP2 with with Windows Media Player 0. It worked a bit better: could transfer files, but the speed of the transfers was unusually slow for USB 2.0. It ended with the WMP freezed and, after a while, all the files I use for testing where in the player.
In both computers, when the WMP freezed, the signal in the player remained with the lines in black, as if it was still communicating. I had to disconnected the player, disregarding the signal, which remained even with the player disconnected from the PC. When powered up the startup process ended in the "Creative" screen staying on forever, I had to remove the battery, go to recovery mode, Reboot the player and, after a library rebuilding it worked.
Read some threads and thoght that reloading the firmware would help. But the sign "erasing firmware" doesn't dissapear in my player's screen. I gave up after 2 hours. At that point, my player starting showing a "firmware error" at startup and going to the recovery screen every time it is powered up.
Tried to upgrade firmware. It gave a "player not connected" error using my home PC (WMP ) but not in my office (WMP 0). I try to "re-upgrade" to 2..02 but it returned a "failed to upgrade firmware" error (after a few minutes with the window freezed) and the player remained in "communicating" status (black lines in the screen's icon). Try then to "downgrade" to last .xx firmware version available, but the operation hangs after the "format completed successfully" message, with only two bars in the progress indicator, and it stays like this for a very long time (tried for 30 minutes), still with the communication black-lines-in-icon status.
If I try to re-run the firmware upgrade inmediately, it says "your player is not connected, please reconnect your player", as it is still in "communicating" status. I have to take battery out and reinsert it to be able to restart the firmware proess.
Any suggestions? I'm really restricted to not to send the player to Creative Customer Service, as it has just finished it warranty period and I'm nowadays in Argentina, from where the post cost would be huge.

  • Zen Touch upgrade prob

Hi, I upgraded my Touch to version 2 firmware, installed the latest driver and downloaded and installed all the latest versions of the Creative ap
    ps.
Since the upgrade I have had nothing but problems in trying to copy tracks to the Touch. Every app that I use including Creative Mediasource, Zen Touch Explorer, Notmad Explorer, Winamp and Windows Media Player (vers 0 and ) freezes or crashes when trying to write to the Touch. Winamp crashes straight away. WMP freezes when trying to synch. Zen Touch Explorer mostly doesn't see the Touch but freezes when it does and MediaSource sometimes manages to write a few tracks to the Touch and then freezes (or suspends, sometimes I can close it tidily). I have gone into Recovery mode and reformatted and done a cleanup, no disk errors are reported. I have reloaded the firmware and it reloads without a problem and does not report a firmware error. Windows XP reports it present as an MTB device. I have read these boards and also the nomadness boards and tried everything related to firmware upgrade problems with no success. Creative says my player is out of warrenty and won't offer any advice so I am completely out of ideas. Has anyone here had apps freezing on them after a firmware upgrade and managed to cure it's Any help would be great, thanks.

    Hi,
Sorry ot hear you are having problems.
One thing, have you upgraded to the the latest version of Media Source - 3.3. This supports MTP devices. Just curious and of course the unit should be working with WMP 0 and .
When you attach the player to the PC does it come up with a dialogue box reporting detection, successful install and asking you what you wish to do? Or do you get any notification at all?
If oyu can try re-installing Win XP SP2.
Finally are you based in the U.S?
    TIA

  • WMP 10 freezes when syncing my Zen Touch v.2.11

After updating my Zen Touch 20 GB to v.2..0 with the PlayForSure firmware, I have issues when trying to sync my library from WMP 0. It works fine for a few songs until WMP climbs to 99% of my CPU usage and then freezes (not responding). This only happens for me on my desktop PC, not my laptop, so I do not think it is the player. My WMP has all the updates available from MS.
If anyone has had this issue or knows how it may be resolve, I would like to know how -- WMP works great for everything else, and I use it to sync on my laptop often.

Install the latest version of MediaSource from the website. Also, be sure to install the Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative Zen Touch Players (43.44 MB) to enable MediaSource to detect the player. Nomad Explorer doesn't support PlayForSure device.

  • Fix? iTunes slow to import CD, sync iPod, freezes on credits - Page Faults

    All,
Using Windows XP on a computer with 512 M of memory (lightning fast for it's time) I found that iTunes would import CDs at 0.3x to 0.7x, way too slow. iTunes resonded slugglishly to UI commands. And the credits screen (help - about iTunes) would freeze. Other applications do not have this problem. I found that iTunes memory management is sub optimal, at best. This causes iTunes to swap portions of its active program memory to the hard disk, slowing the interface by a factor of x1000.
How to verify if this is happening:
    1. Open task manager by RIGHT clicking on the date on the windows control bar
    2. Click on the "Process" tab, then from the menu select "View" then "Select columns . . "
    3. Make sure "CPU", ("handles" (i.e. open files), "threads" (i.e. parallel processes), and "page faults" are checked. Page faults are swap of memory to the hard disk.
    4. Open iTunes, use as usual (e.g. view credits)
    5. If iTunes becomes slow (right away in my case), watch for increasing page faults (what I experience) or excessive threads or handles.
In my case I'm getting over 1000 page hits a second when viewing credits. Someone didn't use good programming skills. (Not necessarily Apple, see below)
Note: I see, and expect, the CPU to go to 100% while importing CDs.
Please note: ** I do not use a mail client on this machine. ** I use a web based mail program and do not use MS outlook, and I don't want to. I only mention this because when I used iTunes, it locked up and I also received an error saying that I needed to setup my outlook client. Turning off automatic updates seems to have solved this lockup.
Since I run Word, excel, iExlorer, games, and windows media manager without error I'm having trouble understanding why iTunes uses so much system resources. Poor development tools? Virtual machine? Bug in complier library?
    Thigs to try to fix:
Since this is a memory issue: Try one or more of the following:
Minimize the screen when importing CD (screen calls are a hog)
This is what made the most improvement for me.
    Stop all other programs
This allowed me to stop the credits screen.
Try stopping / halting your antivirus programs
Try updating your Video card driver.
Note: I have a 'business' style video card. Aboslutly no bells/whistles. I do not wish to upgrade to a directX card just to allow easy transfers to my iPod / iTouch. I am using an Intel 82810E Graphics Controller with drivers provided by Wicrosoft.
Set your performance for best performance:
+ Right click on the "My Computer" icon
+ Click on "advanced" - "Performance" - Visual
+ Click on "adjust for best performace"
Note: This changes the XP look, had no effect for me.
If you are still having trouble, close iTunes, open the Windows Media player to import your CD with the following settings: Tools - Options
Player - Deselect start player in media guide (unless you really like it)
Copy Music - Deselect Copy Protect Music (otherwise it only works in WMP)
    Root cause?
I suspect that the iTunes is calling a function that it expects the video card to do easily. I suspect that the video card doesn't have that functionality, so the video card driver tries to emulate the functionality. The slow response from the driver apparently causes iTunes to go haywire.
    If you read this far:
Please let me know if you found this helpful by writing a response.
If you can think of anything (other than buying a new computer) that would allow this applicaiton to work, let me know. BTW: A real old version of quicktime works just fine on my 486!
    Apple developers:
I would be open for a test bed if you need older HW to qualify on.
Any idea why the credits would cause the page faults?
Any way to use a bare bones video library (e.g. no scrolled fades etc.)?
For an application that essentially copies files to my iPod, it sure uses a lot of resources.

    Welcome to AD!
This is a user chat board - Apple developers won't be seeing your post. You could re-send it using
itunes menu > Help > Provide iTunes Feedback
    Hoewever, don't expect a reply.
the iTunes 8.1 system requirements page states
    +A DirectX 9.0-compatible video card with 32MB of video RAM; 64MB recommended+
It's not that surprising that itunes doesn't act right on your PC.

  • Problem Please Help - Itunes freezes when trying to play a tv show/movie

The other day I downloaded a couple movies I had rented. Something I had not done before on itunes. The three movies downloaded with no problems and then when I was on my flight I tried to start one of them. Itunes went black as if to start playing and then froze. I disregarded it at the time thinking it was just my computer being buggy. Which was odd because I hadn't an issue with itunes really. However since those downloads I cannot play anything I downloaded. The moment I try Itunes goes black as if to play and just freezes. I have now lost money in this because I was unable to watch that one rental, and am now trying to watch tv series that have already paid for but am having no luck. So what do I do? I've reinstalled several times, I've tried the little fixes that they suggest online but nothing is working! Also if you can tell me how to contact someone that would be a great help too because this just isn't working.

I have the same problem. I  purchased several episodes of a television program and they will not play either in iTunes or in Quicktime without stuttering, jerky video, choppy audio, and the video and audio being out of sync. As a new iTunes user, this experience has completely soured me and unless I find a solution.
I have absolutely no problem with playing video from any other source through any other player. I can stream videos fine from Amazon, YouTube, and everything in between, and videos downloaded from Amazon and elsewhere play just fine whether I'm using VLC, RealPlayer, or WMP. DVDs also play with absolutely no trouble whatsoever. It is only iTunes videos that have any trouble.
I have already consulted the page that was suggested here (and on other threads I've read), and nothing on that page was useful. (Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7 video playback performance issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718)
This is extremely frustrating. I have Win7 Premium with 4 GB RAM and an AMD dual core 1.65 GHz processor. It may not be the ultimate gaming machine, but it's performed really well up until it encountered iTunes.
I also tried using QuickTime, thinking that might work better, so I downloaded the most up-to-date version, and playback was marginally better but still unwatchable.
Considering that this is paid content, it is unacceptable that it cannot be played on my computer -- and I have watched trailers for the episodes on YouTube (it's newly released), and they play perfectly, so I know it's not the episodes themselves.
Is there a codec that I should install? Is there any fix at all for this issue?
It seems that a large number of people experience this, which means that a lot of people are paying for something and then getting nothing -- and it's not a problem that can be discovered before the content is purchased. This is a very frustrating situation!

  • Loathe iTunes...always freezing!

I absolutely hate iTunes! I've never been able to smoothly run the darn program, EVER! It always freezes on the first try, and it takes at least 3 tries to get it going without freezing and sometimes still doesn't recognize my iPod is even connected. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling/updating/starting without iPod connected, etc, etc...
I have no problems with any other programs, my PC is rather new (Windows 7, up to date).
I try to use other media programs when I can (MusicBee, WMP, etc), because iTunes is so frustrating. Really, they need to think of a better way to do this, scrap the whole program altogether and start over.  And make it more user friendly while they're at it, because iTunes is anything BUT.
Until they start listening to their users and we're all forced to endure this crap program, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it at least stop freezing up????

same thing happens to me. I use a shuffle and i-tunes only seems to open when it wants to.

  • ITunes Freezes when determining gapless playback information

I have a library of about 10,000 songs stored on an external hard drive. I imported them all into iTunes, and then when it tries to determine gapless playback information, it always freezes. First it froze on one particular song that I removed. It went a little longer the next time but then froze on a different song. Is there anyway I can have it skip songs? Or is it freezing because of a different reason? I basically can't use iTunes because it freezes within 2 minutes of me opening it..

    Welcome to AD!
I'm not sure this will work, but it's what I would try on my PC.
I would rename the folders containing those new music albums to something else. Then itunes will not be able to find them, so should skip the determining gapless info for them.
Specifically, use Windows Explorer to rename the folder they are in from "Artist A" to "Artist A re-do"
I would also check to see if another player such as WMP could play them. They might be damaged files.

  • . FF Ver 4 is very slow and does perform as well as 3.6. I uninstalled 4 after downloading ver 3.6.16 and that is causing colorfultabs not to color and the Add-ons page is freezing making it unable to use it. Ver 4 runs very slow. Please help.

It seems my machine does not like your ver4 and 3.6.16. I want the ver prior to 3.6.16. . Since the last 2 updates have not been able to use FF to browse or play Webkinz. It is way too slow. Following the install of 3.6.16 the Colorfultabs is not working and I can't fix it or adjust it because the Add-ons list/page freezes. I have removed/disabled several add-ons and extensions and nothing seems to help. If it were not for IE I would not be able to use my machine. I have 2.5 GB of memory and 30 percent plus of free space on my hard drive. I use Windows XP SP3 if that makes a difference. I don't think I need a lot of add-ons but need to know what I can remove. The feature to open FF without any add-ons is gone for some reason. Please give me back my simple smooth operating FF. Thank you.

I had all the dot nets in add/remove but discovered they were not installed. Got all up to date. Puter is 2005, I have all that U listed except Win7. I just don't know if I need that or not. Did U say that I need more than the 2.5 GB
memory that I have? Please tell me why Win7 is better than WinXP.
FF is running much better now but Webkinz accounts are still loading slower than in IE. I am wondering if maybe I should totally remove all of FF including customizations and personal info and start over fresh with a clean install of ver 4. I am still using ver 3.6.16. Is it possible that this is reason for Webkinz (a flash, java and Unity game) not loading good? Also, are there some of the Plug-ins that I can remove? What Audio players do I need? I have wmp, real player, aol media playback, realarcade, realjukebox, also is Zylom usable? Thank you so much for your help.

  • Firefox freezes while trying to download embedded media via Flashgot while Tor is enabled

I have both plugins of Flashgot (1.2.8.2) and Tor button (1.2.5). For example, I want to grab a video from Youtube (while the video is running) using Flashgot while Tor is enabled, Firefox will freeze but the download is not progressing and window cannot be closed. I have to kill the firefox.exe process to reactivate it. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.
This does not happen when Tor is disabled. So there might be some conflicts between Flashgot and Tor plugins. But hopefully, firefox team can help to get around with it. TIA!

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).
You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

  • Plug ins are up to date but still having touble with not responding & freezing

my plug ins are up to date. why am i still getting a mozilla not responding message and computer freezing?'''bold text'''

I have had this problem for a few days, no sound in Firefox, but IE and WMP (offline) have sound, this is a Firefox ONLY problem, so the volumes are all set correctly and the drivers and needed files are there, I've tried every fix that people have suggested on Google like checking the flash player settings, creating the "missing.reg" registry file and importing it, etc...
nothing works, I may just have to switch to Safari or Chrome, I watch a lot of video online (Youtube, ESPN3, NFL.com, etc.) so this is a huge problem...

  • Zen Micro Freezes when I plug in USB cable+USB not recognized at ti

Ok, I know you, the reader, has heard this complaint posted over and over on the Creative forums, and you would probably tell me to SEARCH THE FORUMS. Well, I did, and I found no answer or solution to my problems. So..here goes nothing.
I recently purchased a Black 5gb Creative Zen Micro, I was really content and happy with it...that is until I plugged it into my USB 2.0 Card. The moment I do that (I've tried plugging it in into every USB 2.0 slot, and NO, this isn't a hub, but a PCI card), The Zen Micro freezes! I have to resolve this by removing the cover and taking out the battery, then reinserting the battery. At the same time my Zen Micro freezes, a little bubble pops up on my computer screen saying "USB Device Not Recognized". I'm going absolutely out of my mind here, and am on the verge of returning the Zen Micro, and might get a replacement, and if that doesn't work, just returning the Zen altogether for a refund and getting a Rio Carbon. I really like the Zen, so PLEASE PLEASE help me out here!
Things I've Tried That Did Not Work:
-Uninstall/Reinstalling Zen Explorer, Mediasource (basically everything on CD)
-Updating the drivers for Zen Micro found on Nomadness.net
    -Updating Firmware for Zen Micro
-Going into rescue mode and cleaning up, Formatting, reloading firmware, and rebooting.
-Trying the USB 2.0 Card in different PCI Slots
-Rotating the order in which I connect the USB cable to Zen Micro and PC
-Uninstalling/Reinstalling the drivers, even when the Zen Micro pops up as "Unknown Device"
    -Reading tips/hints on Nomadness.net
I have scoured the forums, and have not found anything useful or new. I know its not the USB 2.0 Card's problem, since I plugged in my USB mouse into all the ports on the USB Card, and it worked fine.
Note: When I plug the USB cable that came with the Zen Micro into the integrated USB slots on the motherboard (USB .), it at times, does work, but even then, not a high chance of it happening. Even if I do successfully connect the Zen to a USB . slot without it freezing up, the Zen ends up not being detected by any program, like Window Media Player, Mediasource, or Creative Zen Micro Explorer.
I am going out this weekend and am gonna try to buy a new USB Cable, and if that doesn't work, returning the cable, and returning the Zen Micro to be replaced. AND IF THAT DOES NOT WORK...GOODBYE CREATIVE! HELLO RIO! But please, any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated. I will also try to contact Creative Customer Support, but I doubt they'll tell me anything new, if I could even connect to them without being put on hold.
    System Specs:
    Windows XP Professional SP2
    Creative Zen Micro Firmware .02.05
    USB 2.0

Yep, that's exactly my issues to.....no matter what I've done, including replacing the USB 2.0 card which WAS and Adaptec DuoConnect 2.0 card which works fine with every other USB device ever connected to it, the Zen Micro 6g is NOT recognized by Creative Media Source or WMP. It is only recognized by the PC in Device Manager, and it has a yellow marker on it, which tells me the drivers are not installed. I know I don't need the drivers installed, but even after installing them, it tells me the drivers are not installed.
However, the answer is: it's definitely not the Micro, since it works flawlessly on my other PC and on my Toshiba notebook. So, it's some compatibility issue on that one PC. Since I refuse to let things be, I am reformatting that PC, reinstalling from scratch with WinXP and sp2. This PC has WinXP Pro but it has other issues so a reformat is in order anyway. Hopefully, this will resolve the issues. If not, then I say it's incompatibility with the Intel 865Perl m.b. But I'm at a loss as to why it won't work when plugged into the Adaptec card too.

  • Just installed iTunes and it freezes when I open it

I just downloaded the current version of iTunes (4-8-09). when I open the program it just freezes. I use Firefox as my default browser. WMP has always been my default music player although during the installation i checked the box for iTunes to be the default. I also have Real Player installed (but I never use it). is there any reason iTunes freezes with these conditions? I am so lost. I have already uninstalled it and re-downloaded and re-installed it twice just to be sure I had a good file. PLEASE help me!
