WMP library suddenly empty?

I have a hp pavilion dv6-2100 notebook, just under 2 years old.
About 3 days ago, I opened Windows Media Player and received the following message (this is roughly translated from Danish): "There are no elements in this library right now. The player is searching for digital media in the background. Click here to add elements to the library now."
I cannot add elements to the library, however. I don't know what triggered this, I had listened to music previously that day on WMP and I didn't have any problems.
I've restarted the computer several times since then, I've scanned the computer twice and looked around the web to see if anyone else had similar problems, but could find nothing.
Does anyone know what I can do about this? (Before you say "iTunes", iTunes has never worked on this laptop)

• Library suddenly empty

hi, my books have vanished from my ipad library. still in itunes but not the ipad. help

Bom dia...
Tom ...

• Podcast Library Suddenly Empty

All gone! Tried looking through these forums but no joy. I don't understand why. Using 7.0.1.8 My podcast folder is there (on my hdd), where the Advanced/General setting thinks it is. What now? Search for all the subscribe URLs and add them all again?

• My Apeture library is suddenly empty. I think it happened when I was trying to use Prism to upload a video into my computer. My memory quantity is unchanged so can I hope that the over 7000 photos are still available- just missing? My imac is 5 yrs ol

My Aperture library is suddenly empty. I think it happened because I was attempting to import a video with Prism. I did not actually figure out how to complete that and gave up. The next time I opened my computer the library of over 7000 photos was completely empty. My memory quantity has not changed however,
could this mean that the photos are still in there somewhere? My imac is over 5 years old and I just don't know where to go for help.

Just to eliminate some possibilities, since you said that memory has not changed (and I'm assuming that you mean there is no more free space on your hard drive than you had before), have you looked to see if you have a filter activated?
Does your search field read "Unrated or better" or "Show All"? I'd check that first:

• Itunes library appears empty

I have about 5GB of music but all of a sudden my itunes library appears empty... I am pretty sure the music is still in my computer but I can't access it.
Windows XP

do you know where on your machine the files are at (start in "my computer", then into your hard drive, and so on)??? If you do then make sure that the directory that itunes has for your music is the same as where they are actually at. If you can't find them do a search for "all files and folders" using an audio extension such as .mp3 or .aac and see if you can locate where they are at.

• ITunes library goin empty outta nowhere

When I open iTunes, my entire library is suddenly empty, and automatically sends library, "library extra's" , and library genius files into my recycle bin. I had everything in my library previously, and suddently, the next time I open iTunes, it just appears empty, and the window shape changes.
What can be done to fix this???
Also, when i connect my iPhone on my computer with iTunes, wat is the cause of it re-syncing after being idle for a period of time?

Hmm, new one on me. Perhaps you should create a new empty library at say C:\iTunes and see if that is stable. Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and contiune to hold down SHIFT until this dialog appears.
If iTunes opens normally you got it wrong, try again.

Flakey connection to the computer plus sync on connect settings? I disable automatic syncing of devices and launching iTunes when devices connect.
If your iPhone syncs to your (empty?) library then switching libraries might be an issue. Then again, if the new library proves stable, and you can add your content into it, then switching your iPhone to the new library should be a good move.

I
got your message about making sure to use the machine specific disk that came with my machine. Unfortunately, Apple no longer sells Tiger replacement disks. I've got a couple of bids out on ebay, and will update when I have news to add to this post.
Thank you for your help, Frank!
To be clear you called the 800 number and explained what the situation was, old machine and lost the original DVD's?
Just checking because if you just called and tried to buy the DVD's they might tell you they no longer sell them but you aren't really trying to buy them your trying to replace the ones that are missing.
Ebay may work but there is a certain specificity to the DVD's required which, even if they seem right, might not work.
Good luck either way. If you get a chance when you get the DVD's I'd be interested in hearing how it all works out.

I am unable to access my digital editions library on a new computer with my existing account, it shows that my library is empty? Can anyone offer a suggestion to fix this?

If you have given correct info about you ios 6.1.3 - all you need to do is delete account. You will be able to sign in with new one afterwards. Make sure you don't delete any info when you see those prompts.

• Contents in Documents Folder Suddenly Empty

I'm a single user and I found that today my contents in documents folder suddenly empty. I also noticed that my free space doesn't have any change (the documents folder contents contain of thousands SVG, Ai, EPS, PSD, PNG, JPG, files). Unfortunately I don't have time machine, I just bought this mac for about three months ago. This is so frustrating.
I tried to:
-check my trash bin, nothing found
-search my files over spotlight and finder, nothing found
-restart my mac, nothing happened
-verify disk permissions, found one invalid permissions, fixed
-verify disk, no problems found
I tried another solutions:
in terminal (ls -ael ~/Documents)
ls -ael ~/Documents

Tried recover through diskdrill (both quick scan and deep scan)
BUT NOTHING FOUND what's in my documents folder.
What would cause the contents of my "documents" folder to suddenly disappear?
Right now I'm scanning my Mac if there's any virus. I'll update soon if I found any.

There is not malware involved. It's extremely unlikely that you would have any Mac malware, though the scan may well turn up some Windows malware attached to e-mail messages or something similar.
As to what the problem is, that's hard to say. One possibility is that you have somehow accidentally moved them to a different folder. Since Spotlight does not search everywhere and could be handicapped if something is wrong with the search indices, try searching for one file whose name you know with certainty using EasyFind.
Unfortunately, whatever may have happened, if those files can no longer be found on your hard drive and cannot be found by data recovery tools, they are gone for good since you don't have any backups.

• After installing yosemite and the latest version of iPhoto all my photos want missing. I have tried everything but my library is empty. Why on earth apple changed iPhoto. It wasn't broken who fix it. I am seriously consider to get ríd of my iMac

Yosemite made all my photos dissapear

Which version of iPhoto did you upgrade from? What happens when you try to launch iPhoto? Do you get any warnings, when iPhoto upgraded the library?
I have tried everything but my library is empty.
What have you tried already?
Where did you store your iPhoto library? On an external drive or your system drive?
iPhoto will create a new, empty library, if it cannot open or find your previous iPhoto library.
If you upgraded from iPhoto '08 or earlier, the iPhoto library needs to be prepared with iPhoto Library Upgrader. See this link: iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
If you got error messages during the upgrade of the library, restore your iPhoto Library from your most current backup.

• I was listening to a station on iTunes radio and now my library is empty. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I was done listening so I closed iTunes and eventually I shut off my computer. But the next time I turned it on and opened iTunes my entire library was empty, and the playlists were set to the system default. I tried doing a system restore to my laptop but that didn't change anything. I'm really hoping there's a way to fix this without reloading my entire library song by song, or (and this is the absolute last resort) contacting Apple. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any help!

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.
''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.''
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
* You can open the Firefox 4.0+ SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running.
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
'''''If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
• Help! I moved my songs, and now my library is empty

I just moved all my music from the My Music folder on my hard drive onto my external HD, and I followed all the directions in the iTunes Help file. But when I restarted iTunes, the entire library was empty.
Is there a step here I'm missing? How do I get iTunes to recognize where my library is? I already went into the Preferences -> Advanced menu and changed the location of the library, but it still doesn't show up.
I'd hate to have to manually re-import all the songs (well over 1000 files). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
HP zv5000 Windows XP iTunes 7.0.2

I just did the same exact thing (but recovered!). I hope you didn't empty your recycle bin/trash yet! Your library information is there - get it out!
The instructions on the web are a bit obtuse - what you need to do is delete ONLY the "iTunes Music" folder within the default iTunes location; I deleted the ENTIRE "iTunes" folder and saw exactly what you do now. You need to restore the "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" files, and you'll be back in business.
Not sure how you'll recover if you can't get those files back...

• Moved music folders to external hard drive - now library is empty ?

I moved 27gb of music to my xternal hard drive as was getting too big for my laptop. i followed the instructions here at support, and consolidated. I clicked on the itunes icon and the itunes front page(library is empty). What did I do wrong ? and how can I restore it. Any help, much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me. I followed the instructions in the post, and was able to recover a substantial part of my library in iTunes. But now I'm worried that when I synch my iPod to iTunes, it will reduce the content on the iPod to match iTunes. I searched more in the discussions, and see that I might be able to use 3rd party software to copy from iPod to iTunes. any advice if I go that route? Thanks again!

• Moved iTunes to external hard drive, now library is empty

I moved my iTunes ver 7 from my full hard drive to an external hard drive. It worked fine, was able to synch iPod. Then I upgraded to ver 8.0.2 and when I open iTunes the library is empty. I changed the "path" in the Preferences/Advanced window but it didn't help. I know my music is still there- the folder shows 38.0 gb, but how do I get iTunes to find it? Thanks for any help.
