My friend in the baja is sharing his connection w/ me but his router is in a concrete building, and my place is located about 100 feet from his place and am wondering what kind of external antenna would help me connect better?   Here is the equipment he has!   Where canI get one pronto???? Thanks
LINKSYS,BEFW11S4, IT TAKES AN,RP-TNC, CABLE CONNECTOR, IT HAS A SCREW CONNECTOR WITH A CENTER PIN

The Distance between you computer and router is around 100fts, i think if you are planning to buy an antenna i think it wont help you. Its better you go for a WRE54G, I think this will solve your Problem.

  • When I use a GSI external antenna for WiFi I first get a message that "Firefox is already running but not responding etc", and then Firefox crashes. Can anyone help please?

Because of weak WiFi signal I need to use an external antenna (GSI USB wireless WIFI long range network adapter). My computer can see the signal clearly and shows that I am connected to the right network. But when I try to launch Firefox I get a message that "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." When I click "OK" Firefox tries to load websites but gives up and reports "Problem Loading". It looks like Firefox is having trouble "seeing" the signal from the external antenna. What do I need to do please?

Try Ubuntu support, I don't think your problem is with Firefox - it will use the connection that the Operating System "makes". I'm a real noob with Ubuntu myself, and don't think I can help you figure out the problem.

  • External Antenna Not Recognized

I am having trouble with a weak signal on one of my Mac PB laptops(titanium model) when I am in the furthest bedroom from my Airport, so I recently purchased a used Dr. Bott external antenna for my AEBS (the white dome-shaped one) which has an external antenna jack. I powered down everything and disconnected the ATT modem, the AEBS, connected the antenna and then proceeded to power up everything. I still get an internet connection on all of my computers, but there is no noticeable difference in signal strength. I was under the impression that the AEBS would recognize the antenna and it would show up in the Airport Admin Utility. Is there some kind of software that needs to be installed or uploaded to the AEBS? I tried disconnecting and reconnecting everything a second time but got the same results. Are there any other Dr. Bott antenna/AEBS users out there that have done this with success? Perhaps I'm overlooking something obvious or the antenna is inoperable. Thanks for your feedback.

These are the SoundStick speakers that connect using a regular mini-jack to the iMac audio output, correct? I ask, because earlier SoundStick speakers connected using USB.
If you connect regular headphones, such as iPod earbuds, to the iMac's audio output mini-jack, do they work? If they do not, the problem is more general than the SoundStick speakers.
If you connect the speakers to some other device, such as an iPod, do they work?

  • Problem on Cisco AP 1240AG and External Antenna

    Hi all :
I am setting and configure the Cisco AP 1240AG with 5GHz External Antenna extension. The whole product is called iWap. The problem now is that the wireless signal amplitude only can reach 3 bars instaed of ful 5 bars.
Please help below few questions I have for this setup and configuration :
    1. What is the default or original frequency of antenna of Cisco AP1240AG? Can a 5GHz antenna work with the AP 1240AG whereby it is run with 802.11a and 802.11g?
    2. If 5GHz antenna can work with 802.11a or 802.11g, what is the setting or configuration needed to be done at the Cisco 1240AG? Or, no setting or configuration needed because it will automatically work by default?
Many Thanks in advance and best regards,
    tangsuan

1240 is the product "line," 1242 is the specific model.  The come in both G and AG variants. The link below is a picture of an AG variant (with both an 2.4 Ghz "A" radio and a 5 Ghz "G" radio).  The two antenna ports on the top in the blow image are for the 5 Ghz radio, and there should be some blue text indicating as much.

If you don't have the two antenna ports on top, and just have two near the ethernet and console ports, then you have a "G" model, which only have a 2.4 Ghz radio.  See my pic below.  G model on the left, AG on the right.

  • External Antenna for 1240AG is Required?

    Hi guys,
    1. Do the external antennas are required for 1240AG or they are optional or it depends on mounting location and location size?
    2. If it's required and I want to just use 2.4Ghz radio, do I need to buy two antennas or one is enough?
3.If it's required, do you have any recommendation for a small office with a small warehouse? something like AIR-ANT4941 maybe?

    Hi,
    here are the answers..
    1. Do the external antennas are required for 1240AG or they are optional or it depends on mounting location and location size?
ANS - 1242 NEED the External antennas, without the antena 1242 APs will not work.
    2. If it's required and I want to just use 2.4Ghz radio, do I need to buy two antennas or one is enough?
ANS - There are many advantages of using 2 antennas, one of them is Multipath and there are many to pen down..
3.If it's required, do you have any recommendation for a small office with a small warehouse? something like AIR-ANT4941 maybe?
ANS - Here is the antenna accessories link, choose the one which meets your requirements!!

  • External antenna or external AP

    Morning
I've been asked a question, to which I think I know the answer, but I'm just after some clarification.
When looking at providing wi-fi access to an outside seating area (grassy area overspill from cafe inside) is it better to use an purpose build external AP or have an AP mounted internally but run an external antenna outside? I guess I'm asking if the external antenna is suitable for outside or will it get ruined by the elements?
My take is that it probably isn't rated for outside use, so we'd be better off using an outside rated AP that is sealed against the elements.

It's depends... Some antennas are rated for outdoor use, but others are not, so when choosing an antenna, makes sure it meets your needs. Now using a mesh AP outdoors is a better solution, but also a more expensive solution.

  • External antennas for 802.1g for computer?

Ive been having a lot of problems with airport reception on one specific computer. Ive replaced the airport card, tried a bunch of preference tricks and what not, nothing seems to help.
Are there any external antennas i can plug in via usb or firewire to give a better reception? Im beginning to think my antenna may be broken as i can take almost any other wireless device to the same location and get perfect reception.
    Thanks again
    Grant

What kind of computer is this?
Note that when installing the AirPort card that there is an internal antenna which needs to be attached to the card or you will have severely degraded range.

  • External antenna to extend the range of an Airport Extreme 802.11g

What is the best external antenna for extending the range of my Airport Extreme? My studio is in an old metal building and I want to send the single to my house which is about 50' away. The metal blocks the signal so I believe I need some kind of directional antenna. Any advise?

  • Usb wi fi external antenna

We live on a small (26') sailboat and are presently in a marina at Joe
Wheeler State Park in Alabama. Currently we are on the fringes of both
the verizon network and the marina wi fi. Very frustrating to sit on
the boat  and not get either connection.
So. I am hunting for an antenna that I can mount outside and plug into the Verizon 760 and a
seperate one I can use for wi fi through USB. My mast is 34 ft. tall and the
spreaders are at about 20 ft. so would need about 20+ feet of wire. I
could mount them lower but it might get hung up in the sail.

    Hi Harry and Barbara,
With an external antenna (if at all applicable), signal loss in the antenna cable could be considerable.
A plain USB cable extension has its limitations, too:
    http://www.usb.org/about/faq/ans5
Alternatively, for the Wi-Fi part, you could possibly experiment with a method where a properly positioned wireless Ethernet bridge (also known as a gaming adapter) is used. The device would have to be made weather-proof  to begin with. With Ethernet and low-voltage power cables connected,  the unit should be able to act as a remote transceiver, thus allowing you to gain access to the local Wi-Fi network.

    http://www.netgear.com/home/products/wireless-adapters/high-performance/WNCE2001 .aspx
For the mobile broadband, a mobile broadband router (with support for the USB modem stick in question) could make it easier to find a position with better reception. It might even be possible to, somehow, connect the wireless Ethernet bridge to the router.

  • External antenna connection

I have poor coverage at home (all networks), and am using a car kit antenna to boost the signal on my 6310i.
I want to upgrade to a Symbian 60 handset, probably Nokia N70, but as far as I can see, there is no external antenna connection point.
Is one of the pins in the POP Port a proper antenna connection? If not, can you suggest an alternative Symbian 60 model which has an external antenna connection point.
I read also about acoustic couplers, but never seen or used one. I wd be grateful for comments on their efficacy, I am doubtful whether an indirect connection will give me the boost I need.

The new pop port cradles do not have the same hard wired connection like on your 6310I, it uses a passive repeat system which transmits into the back of the phone, these are not as good as the old type but it mainly depends on what type of antenna you have on the car & where it is mounted.
    Hope this helps

  • Two TNC connectors on Aironet 1310 for external antennas

    Hi All,
I have been checking the "Cisco Systems Aironet 1310 Intallation" manuals, and have noticed that the external antenna model has connectors for two antennas.
My question is if this device could be used as repetitor (logically splitting the signal between the two antennas)?
    I will appreciate any comments.
    Best Regards,
    Igor Sotelo.

Although you can't fit two antenna to service two connections you might be able to get it to work with a single omni on the "relay" station so it can "see" both the remote stations. I've used this setup before and sometimes you can route traffic end to end, sometimes not. A certain solution would be 2 x 1310 at the central point connected with a cross lead. That way you are running two separate bridge connections and everything will work just fine, needs another bridge though : (

  • WAP200E and WAP200 as repeaters, external antennas, poor signal

I am having some weird things happen...
I have setup a WAP200E external w/o optional antenna and using (2) WAP200 internal units in separate buildings setup as repeaters.  I have added a external
Yagi 10Dbi directional antenna to both repeaters with short cables and using the standard antenna for the internal wireless needs.
Both buildings are about 200' line of sight from the WAP200E with a angle of less then 45 degrees from the WAP200E,
I am getting a signal that continually jumps from 20% - 60% Channel keep changing etc...  looks like a typically poor signal connection
I am able to access the internet from either repeater, but not reliably
    Question 1: External Antenna....
I was going to install a similar external Yagi antenna on WAP200E but I was reading that the external antenna in turned on automatically when the WAP200E
senses a antenna. Cisco only certifies one particular antenna to connect to the WAP200E and that is the  HGA9N which is a 9DBI omni directional antenna
I would much rather use a directional antenna, but I was reading that the WAP200E may not reconize any other antenna's, plus I cant find any way to determine if the WAP200E actually turns on the external antenna.   Does anyone have any experience using the WAP200E with external antennas?
    Question 2:
    SSID's on repeaters
On the WAP200E and WAP200 units, It show that that repeaters can have unique SSID's I tested them using the same SSID as the A/P and also with unique SSID's  Which approach would be the more reliable?
    Question 3:
    Freq Channels setting:
Typically I would set the channel to be fixed on all three units to keep them from hopping from channel to channel. Is my logic correct?
Is there any way to determine which channel is the best, beside trial and error?
Also, can I lock the speed to a slower setting to help improve reliability?
    Question 4:
    Bridging:
I was considering setting up one of the repeaters as a bridge can the WAP200E A/P handle communicating with a bridge and a repeater at the same time?
Does anyone have any experience using these as bridges?  I see a few issues online regarding briging with these units
Wireless is tough enough, but flakey wireless product can make you wish had a wire
Firmware... 1.20 on the WAP200E A/P unit.. I guess I will try 1.20a but the blogs say it doesnt matter
Firmware on the WAP200 unit is unknown at the moment
    Thanks in advance

    Update...
After speaking with Linksys support staff, they informed me that the antenna jacks on the WAP200 are slightly different
One jack is TX & RX and the other jack is RX only...
It is not documented or labeled as such on the device.
The support person told me it was the right jack when facing the rear of the unit with the network jack facing you. but this is the way I
had it configured... so for giggles I swapped the antenna jacks and presto it works fine
    Many thanks
    Bob

  • Airport express external antenna and socket.

Hi Everyone - I'm new to this, so please excuse me if my question is naive.
I have a fault with my airport extreme card, which I believe I've narrowed down to either the external antenna or the socket it plugs into on the rear panel. I know I can replace the antenna, but can anyone help with the rear antenna socket - is it possible to replace this and, if so, where could I get one from?
I would be most grateful for any advice.

It is possible to replace the antenna board. AppleComponents.com has the parts, but you'll need to be careful to select the correct computer. Your signature states that you have a dual 2.0, but there were three different 2.0 DP machines. The part is not common amongst all of the models.
The install is not the easiest either. It will require you to remove the upper processor and a few other components. If you remove a processor, you'll need to run the thermal recalibration routine from the service discs. This is true even if you reinstall the processor in the same socket. An Apple Authorized Service Provider will have this disc, or you can locate it yourself with enough searching.

  • Wrt54g with 2 external antennas?

I want to know if I can attach two external antennas to my wrt54g router. I have to cover two opposite areas from the building where I have my wrt54g router and instead of using an omnidirectional antenna I am thinking if I can use 2 sectorial antennas as they are cheaper than omnidirectional antennas and range covered are longer too.
Can I use two external antennas in my wrt54g router to cover two aerial sectors that do not overlap?
    Thanks

not sure whether u can use more than one external antenna on the router....however if u need more help go through this links
