Wmv and quicktime attachments in iphone 4

Hi, If someone sends me an email with either a .wmv or quicktime video, how on earth do I open it?????

Just found a free one that works beautifully. It's called OPlayer. It's a standard iPhone app, and the free version works fine. The first time you play a video from email, you'll likely have to select OPlayer. After that, it shows up automagically. Once in the OPlayer, the video is in the "My Documents" file location, under Inbox (at least that's what it did for me).
Above was with a .wmv - haven't had a chance to test it with an avi or other format.
Hope it works for you!

  • Problems with Flip4Mac WMV and QuickTime 10.1

I installed Flip4Mac WMV and when I try to listen to some audio in some sites, it starts playing and after about 1 second it starts playing again - so, I have the same thing playing with a delay. I use Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 and QuickTime 10.1. What is happening and how to fix it? Is there any way to play videos and audio for Windows Media Player without using Flip4Mac WMV?

First use the System Preference for Flip4Mac to check to make sure your uptodate. If you are and there is still a problem you could report it on the Flip4Mac website.
Other than that, you should be able to play WMV files using VLC which is available free for the Mac from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html

  • WMV and Quicktime

Does anyone know of an application that it capable of translating WMV files into quicktime friendly files? A free application is sorta what I was looking for, but I guess if they're around $10, that's okay too. I have looked at WMV Player, but are there others?

    Try flip4mac.com .
Flip4Mac is free and is a plugin for Quicktime. I am currently using Flip4Mac with Quicktime 7.0.4 and plays .wmv files very well, much better than the MS Windows Media Player. Flip4Mac enables .wmv files to play from within a Quicktime window. This download also includes a plugin (something MS never provided) for your browser so that .wmv files can play from the browser page.
If you want to install and use Flip4Mac make sure you install version 2.0.1 as all earlier versions are reported to conflict with QT 7.0.4.
Anyway Microsoft has recently announced the end of development of Windows Media Player for the Mac. This news is not that bad. The MS Windows Media Player was poorly designed and played files poorly. It also had not been updated in a long time and MS never provided a browser plugin.
The aanouncement I read about the discontinuation of WMP for the Mac stated that MS was recomending that Mac users download and use Flip4Mac to play Windows Media files. In addition to Flip4Mac there are two other solutions for playing Windows Media Files on MacOS X. Each has their streghts and weaknesses.
    1. MPlayer. I believe this palyer was ported to the Mac from a player originally developed for use with Linux.
    2. VLC.
Both MPlayer and VLC are able to play many of the MS .avi codecs but not all. MPlayer and VLC are useful when Windows Media Player and Quicktime fail to be able to play a Windows Media file, usually in the .avi codec.
If you want to be able to play as many MS media file formats on the Mac here are the programs you should have (all are free):
    1. Flip4Mac download from Flip4Mac.COM
    2. MPlayer Search VersionTracker.com for the player.
    3. VLC Search VersionTracker.com for the player.
I hope this info help. Does anyone else know of other solutions I failed to mention?

  • Since upgrading to Lion I have Quicktime problems, it will not let me export files to iTunes, it is telling me file maybe damaged this is with wmv and quicktime formats, I also have problems with quicktime freezing and no sound on some files

    Anyone got any ideas?

OK, I did as you suggested, the first step didn't seem to do anything, I selected to download it said immediatly "thankyou for downloading" but didn't ask permission as normal downloads do and it was also instantanious, no download time waited.
So I went onto the second step, downloaded and ran the free trial, showed lots of errors as I'd expect something selling a service to do. I have no idea what the registry does but am wary not to mess with it as if its damaged it makes things very very difficult. I don't know what to do with the results on that one. The messages all seem the same:
The Default Value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/App paths/Your App exe contains an invalid path...etc and then goes on to specify a file or someters and numbers and semi colons. There are 388 like this. Again, I have no idea what to do with that information or how essential a registry clean is. About 5 years ago I had a Sony Ericsson mobile which would not transfer pictures to my computer. I called Sony up and they did a registry clean for me. It did nothing, I was still unable to transfer pictures and made a mental not to never ever get another Sony Ericsson handset. I can't help feeling a sense od deja-vu with this so am reluctant to do anything to the registry unless someone is there to pick up the peices on the other end as I can't just afford to go out purchase another computer hard drive.
Then I went back, re-downloaded the itunes again, this time it did actually try to download something.
    I got an error message:
Error writing to file: C:/Config.Msi\2b8263.rbf. Verify that you have access to that directory
To which I said I did and to "retry"
It seemed to download fine! I have no idea what was different this time. Nothing I did was any different other then going from your link rather then the pop-up link I normally get. Maybe its just better to use a different link?
    Thanks again!

  • Convert WMV files to MPEG  and/or  get Quicktime plug-in for WMV and AVI

    Hi Apple experts,
I need to convert some WMV files to MPEG format or something that will play natively on a Mac in QuickTime or iTunes.
I was advised that the VLC app that will convert WMV to MPEG4?... but the page at the URL below indicates that this version of VLC is a player and does not say anything about converting WMV to MPEG...
    http://vlc-download.com/download-vlc/?gclid=COrY_NKghKYCFQN7gwoduQy4qA
I would like to convert WMV files to MPEG so they will play in QuickTime or in iTunes on a Mac by just double-clicking them... for family members with Macs like me.
I am working on a PC where I am right now, but I have Macs at home and at work. I am on a PC for the time being at a friends place and I've produced a few .wmv files in Windows Live Movie Maker 2011. (Sorry Steve, it's just for a test).
QuickTime will not play WMV files, nor AVI files, but it indicates that it can use a plug-in to do so, but the QuickTime webpage for plug-ins that it takes me to doesn't have any plug-ins for WMV or AVI format files.
Of course the Windows Media Player plays the WMV and AVI files, but is there also a way to make them play in QuickTime or iTunes besides converting them?
    Thanks so much,
    numetro

    Hi QTKirk,
I would like to be able to just give my family these files on a CD for high-res viewing on a computer, in addition to the DVDs that I have made for their TVs.
Since I don't control what they install on their computers, they don't necessarily have Flip4Mac on their Macs like I do... I just want them to be able to play MPEGs from a file on a CD or on their hard drives by simply double-clicking them.
After working with the recommended VLC player that also allegedly converts WMV files to MPEGs, for 8 hours, I have a result with the 7th attempt that mimics the worst kind of modern digital art that I've ever seen... I wish I could plug in the screenshot of the MPEG video that VLC produced... completely useless garbage.
Are there any other suggestions for a converter that simply handles converting WMV to any kind of MPEG file?
FFE was going to be the one that I tried until I read a post about VLC... that turned out to be a waste of 8 hours of sleepless time.

  • Downloaded the latest version of iTunes&quicktime and can't connect iphone

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and Quicktime but now when I tried to connect my iPhone 3Gs it says I must uninstall iTunes and mobile device support and then reinstall them. When I try uninstalling mobile device support it says "Error while installing"
    How do I fix this?

When I try uninstalling mobile device support it says "Error while installing"
Let's try the following procedure first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any *Apple Mobile Device Support* entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly? If so, do you get recognition for the iPhone this time around?

  • Just got a new Macbook Air. How can I get quicktime to play wmv and other video formats?

I just purchased a new Macbook Air. I have loaded quicktime, but it doesn't play all formats such as wmv and others. What is the best way to accomplish this?

Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac and operating system, of:
    RealPlayer SP for Mac from:
    http://www.real.com/realplayer/mac
Flip4Mac WMV Player from  http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm  (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from  http://perian.org/
You should read this support page  http://perian.org/#support   in case you need to delete older codecs.  In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them), particularly any DivX extension to Safari. However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from  http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFl ash
You can check here what version of Flash player you actually have installed:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

  • How do I convert wmv files to play on iPhone?

Since Apple and NBC are beefin', and we all know life goes on, I still want to at least make an attempt to keep up with my shows this fall. Amazon offers downloads from NBC in wmv(how convenient, right?) but I know this format won't play on iPhone. What's this Dunder Mifflin nut gonna do now?

try downloading "Flip4Mac" (plays wmv on quicktime) and then export the clip(s) to your iphone. I have that the quality is not that great though on the phone. good luck

  • Using Quicktime in 3G iPhone

I have a new 3G iPhone and have tried repeatedly to download "Quicktime" on to it as many of my email attachments are in Quicktime. When I download it, I get a note that says "Congratulations - you now have Quicktime" but I can't find it and the attachments I have in Qt will not open.
Can anyone offer any suggestions. I assume it should work, as Qt is an Apple product.

  • Mail app not showing some png and pdf attachments.

I'm using the iPhone 4s and recently, both mobileme and yahoo email accounts are not showing some png and pdf attachments. I'm seeing the attachment is there, but it doesn't load. Load remote images is turned on in settings. Does anyone have the same problem and a solution/explanation?

My work email account is an IMAP account.
I removed my work email account on my home computer this morning to test out this problem on my computer at work. I just sent a test message to my work account from my iPhone. My iPhone, iPad and computer at work still have my work email active on them and all the devices are showing the test message as new and unread. The problem seems to be that when I have my work email activated on my home computer, the messages do not show new and unread on the rest of my devices.
