WMV export

I was wondering if there is a way to use Media Encoder to export files in WMV format using a Mac. It says here "Windows Media (WMV; Windows only)". Is there any possiblity to integrate a Mac - WMV converter like Flip4Mac into the Adobe Media Encoder.
I know that I can use Flip4Mac to export WMVs from QT Pro. But It would be nice to have one program where I can save all of my export presets for.

  • Need help with a unique WMV export

Hi, everyone! This is my first post on this board. I have a sequence in Final Cut Pro that is three 640x480 clips laid out end-to-end to make a 1920x480 movie. The total length of the program is 7-8 minutes.
I am needing to export this from Compressor to a Windows Media format to run on a high-end PC that will show it on 3 projectors using a Matrox TripleHead2Go box in a theatre environment. The PC is a Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, and has an ATI Radeon X1300 Pro video card with 256 RAM.
The movie needs to be as close to DVD quality as possible. I have WMV Studio Pro HD installed. What recommendations can anyone make for the best settings I should use - in Final Cut, Compressor and with the WMV export - to get a full 1920x480 movie that will run smooth and as high quality as possible on the theatre PC?
    Thanks in advance.

I've found a wealth of knowledge at the Flip4Mac forum HERE.......Craig, the moderator, is quite the expert for questions like this.

  • Where is WMV export?

Sadly a client needs WMV files for a project (we prefer H264 Quicktime!) and although it clearly says in the Compressor Introduction video http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/compressor/ that WMV export is included, we can't find it anywhere! Where is it?
    Thanks!

Yeah...I ran into this too. Had to get Flip4Mac...Studio version for export. Very good, though...didn't break my bank, either.

  • QT 7 Pro (Windows) missing WMV export option?  It's in QT/Mac...

Bought QT Pro for my wife's XP computer, so she can convert small .mov files from textbook-bundled CDs to .avi/cinepak or wmv so that powerpoint can import them natively, and she can give them to teaching assistants to use in class sections. The exported file, when properties are viewed, has the exact same specs and codec as an avi file that plays fine within powerpoint. WMV plays them fine standalone.
Except, using the Window QT 7 pro, the converted .avi files will play within powerpoint (2003). It thinks it can read the avi (powerpoint will import them) and the slide shows the preview, but things just goes blank when you attempt to play. No error messages, no sound, no disk activity.
If I put the original .mov on my Mac, and export it with QT Pro, I have WMV 9 audio and video export formats available. QT Pro 7 Windows, has only mp4 (no formats of which are readable natively in powerpoint) and other non-useful formats, not including WMV9. It's just not there. avi w/cinepak/InterVideo etc. also fail to be properly formatted- they don't play in powerpoint.
What gives? The Windows version of QT Pro can't export to WMV format, the only one that goes natively into powerpoint?
The mp4 might be playable if I update to the latest directX, but you can't count on everyone having that, while WMV just works. And the Mac version actually works?
Granted powerpoint isn't the best thing but it is clear to me that the QT-exported avi is not properly formatted. And wy is there no WMV option- it's not ghosted as if the file was wont bit depth or or something for the format, it's just not an option when exporting from the Windows version of QT Pro.
If I wanted to et her up with ffmpegX and make this complicated, I could have. Buying the QT Pro was supposed to make it easy.
    Thoughts?

sorry for typos, to make it clear, .avi files converted by QT 7 Pro Windows from .mov do NOT play in Powerpoint 2003, although they do import. The video codec and audio are same settings as .avi files that DO import (and were not converted by QT).
Performing a conversion to WMV9 format on my Mac QT Pro 7 imports fine into Windows powerpoint. There is not a WMV export option on the Windows QT pro.
I'd prefer to have WMV export but would settle for .avi it it would import and play as I need it to.
The converted .avi file plays fine in Windows Media Player under XP. Just not in Powerpoint.
Office and XP updates are very recent, within 2 months for sure.
    Thanks for help.

  • FCP truncates .wmv export?

Does FCP Pro stop exporting a .wmv file from a sequence because of some setting that I can control? I've tried on several projects and it stops half way through.

    Welcome to the forum!
Can you post a little more about your system and what steps you're taking? OS, QT, FCP flip4mac versions as well as Mac info might help in diagnosing the problem.
Also, does the export stop at the exact same place every time? If so, it may be a corrupted media or render file. And one last thing; if you have the trail version of flip4mac, your WMV exports will be limited to 30 seconds or so.

  • Flip4Mac WMV Export, QT Pro 7.04, Mac OS 10.4.5 not working together....?

    Hello guys,
If this has been asked and answered, excuse me then.
Ever since i updated to 10.4.5, i have been unable to export files that i normally export to WMV. Now, i was transferring files from my PB to my new iMac, and keeping the iMac up to date by downloading updates to this point. After all said and done, i started my favourite past time on the iMac, which is video conversion and noticed that everytime i tried to export a movie file like .AVI to .WMV for example using QT 7 Pro (like i've done hundreds of times on my PB), i get an error.
The weird thing was that when i went back to my PB and exported a movie to WMV, it worked fine. Now i had not done any software updates to my PB since 10.4.3, and did not correlate that the iMac might be having problems exporting as a result of 10.4.5.
Several days go by and i realize that software update indicates that 10.4.5 is out, so i update my PB as such. Now, i am having the exact same problems exporting to .WMV on my PB from QT Pro 7 using the Flip4Mac Exporter.
I tried everything under the sun that i know, tried reinstalling and updating the components to no avail. I checked the Flip4Mac website and can't find any support relating to my specific case.
Maybe i am the unluckiest person on earth, but is anyone experiencing my scenario and any solutions?

You didn't mention which version of Flip4Mac you are using. Flip4Mac 2.0 had problems with Quicktime 7.0.4 and was quickly updated to the current version: 2.0.1
I just use Flip4Mac for playback purposes only, but one wild quess might be to try reverting to Quicktime 7.0.1 and see of that has any impact on the trouble, since you mentioned earlier versions of the OS seemed to work fine . Apple provides a reinstaller for Quicktime 7.0.4 (removes 7.0.4 from your system and replaces it with 7.0.1) and it can be downloaded here. You can upgrade back to Quicktime 7.0.4 afterwards if it doesn't resolve the problem

  • Wmv export directly from Shake?

    hi
caused off short production time, i need to export wmv´s directly out of shake. For a recoding in Quicktime won´t be time at the end of the production workflow. The clips i generate will be part of an realtime »PC« 3d engine. That´s why it must be wmv.
I know about a macro called MPEG writer 1.3, allowing to export mpeg1 directly out of shake. I need a way for wmv.
hear is the link for the MPEG writer 1.3:

    I´ve got flip4mac components
I need help and time is running out
    thanks for quick answering.

    thank´s for the hint.
this is a good wmv component for qt but it does not allow to write a wmv container out of shake. In shake only the codecs and components are available, that are used in a .mov container. (and of course a lot of other things like picsequ).I need the cabability to write out into a wmv container. I need something like a macros. A wmv sdk would also help.

  • Will Adobe be applying their Premiere CS6 Sync fix for MP4 and WMV exports to CS5?

I noticed that Adobe FINALLY fixed the sync issue for WMV and H.264 MP4 exports in their latest CS6 release.  This is very much overdue. Given that all of us who paid good money for CS5 have had to live with this issue for more than a year, will Adobe be applying the same fix for us?

I also never have had any synch issues with WMV and H.264 MP4 exports (or anything else) in any of the CS versions.
I also have never noticed any posts regarding this as an issue either ...so not sure who  ..

  • WMV export on Windows CS6 version 6.0.3

Hi!  I have Adobe Media Encoder CS6 on a Windows machine at work.
Despite having the version 6.0.3 update, the export presets for WMV format video files appear to be missing.
Edit >> Export Settings (Export Settings > Format)
    The list includes only:
    F4V
    FLV
    H.264
    H.264 (Legacy)
    MP3
The 6.0.1 and subsequent updates presumably included WMV, but evidently not in this case.
Any insight would be greatly appeciated!  Thank you,
    Sonia (a.k.a. SpaceBender)

Available formats depends on which license you have.  In order to use WMV format, you need to have a license to either Adobe Master Collection, Adobe Production Premium, Adobe Premiere Pro or After Effects.  Looking at the list of format you have, it seems you don't have any of those app licences?
Please refer to the the bottom of the following page.

  • QT Pro to wmv export question

I made a small audio file from QT Pro 7.6. Exported it to wmv format. Works fine, except that the end is clipped off. Seems that I can get the whole thing if I stop recording after a lot of silence at the end.
What is the best way to send an audio file to a friend running Vista?
    Thanks,
    Sonny

    Hi Jeffery,
I am a complete novice at this.
I recorded the file with my Logitech USB mic, and got a .mov file.
    Then, File > Export...
    Save As: window came up
Near the bottom, Export: pop-up menu. I chose "Movie to Windows Media".
Considering that this is just an audio file, I guess that this choice was not correct.
As I mentioned before, as a .wmv file, it played fine in QT, but the end was clipped off.
Is there a good source to learn more about the file formats? I haven't had a chance to try Jeffery's advice yet.

  • Mac, wmv export from Premiere or MediaEncoder

    Hi,
    I use a mac
and worked with FCP and flip4mac.
How can I export wmv files from Premiere CC or Media Encoder ?
    br
    phil

Very strange that they want it in the Quicktime container. The only thing I can think of that you might be able to do is to use the MXF option in Premiere, then from there use FFMBC to rewrap the files into the Quicktime container. I know for the hyperdeck studio I used to be able to take the .mxf (DnxHD) files and wrap them into the .mov container ysubg ffmbc. According to their site it can do what you want it to do so I think it's worth a shot. If you're not sure about working with a CMD prompt though you might want to download a GUI that works with ffmpeg since if it works with ffmpeg it will work with ffmbc.  It says right on the front page it can do the task you need so I'd at least try it.
    http://code.google.com/p/ffmbc/
Also here is a link to the page where they show you the command line for encoding to xdcam 422 in the .mov container. If you do it this way you could export to a uncompressed or another lossless format and then use ffmbc to encode it to xdcam in the Quicktime container if you wanted.

  • .WMV exporting issues in FCP7

I have a 58 minute sequence in my timeline, and when I go to export the sequence as a .wmv, it only exports the first 25 seconds of the sequence. Why is this? Can it be fixed?

  • Quicktime shortens WMV exported video

When I export to Windows Media format my short video becomes even shorter and about a third is missing. I tried from mpeg4 and .mov. Any ideas why?

I think it stinks. I just sprung for the Quicktime Pro upgrade (yes, I paid for it) just so I could convert from QT to WMV files and now I find out that I have to shell out for more? That really stinks.
Why? WMV is owned by Microsoft and it is pretty clear Apple and them are not buddies. There are other licensed codecs as well that you have to pay for as well, not just WMV.
