WMV files in powerpoint on a mac

New to macs
How can I load WMV files into a powerpoint presentation. My new IMAC won't let me put them into a presentation to be played later on a PC
Thanks

Do you have Flip4mac installed? OSX and Quicktime cannot play them without this component. You do not need and should not have the crummy, dated, non working MS WMP application on your mac at all, despite the misguided advice.

  • Converting QT to WMV files for PowerPoint presentation on PC

    Hi All,
I have a client on a tight budget who wants to incorporate some talking heads into their Powerpoint presentation on their PC. I did a test with a full resolution Quicktime file but they could not play it.
My plan is to export as a Windows Media Player file but I'm not sure if there are any settings that I should be aware of before I deliver.
I am editing in DV 720 x 480. Can I keep this file size and just export at full quality?
I have both VisualHub and Flip4Mac software.
    Thanks for your help.
    Cheers,
    Chris

Thanks for the reminder on the size, Jim.
quick question. I've done a test using the Flip4Mac preset - One pass VBR, Presentation (high) and the clips play fine of their PC. The client is happy, But, and this is a big but for me.... I can see some green leaking through around the heads. I have worked very hard on the key using the DVGarage plug-in and it's clean on my computer.
Is something happening during the conversion to wmv? The bitrate on the presentation preset is only 80 with a peak bit rate of 160, a far cry from the 1600k cbr that you suggested. I need to deliver today and I'm not sure if I should be experimenting too much at this stage, but, on the other hand, they will be using a projector.
I could really use some advice.
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • Inserting a .wmv file into a powerpoint 2011 for mac

When I try to insert a wmv file in powerpoint 2011 for mac I get the following error.  "Powerpoint couldn't insert a movie from the selected file.  Either the file is non standard or Quicktime is not installed properly."    I do have Flip4Mac installed.  I also tried to rename the .wmv file as a .mov file.  Thanks in advance for your help.

I do have Flip4Mac installed.  I also tried to rename the .wmv file as a .mov file.
Do you have the $29 (or greater) Flip4Mac decoder component installed? Changing the file extension at the Finder level does not change the data type contained within the file nor the file container type. If you want the WMV data in an MOV file container, you must use the QT 7 Pro (or MPEG Streamclip) "Save As..." option (together with the decoder component) to partially expand the WMV data (file will be noticeably larger) and place the expanded data in a "real" MOV file container.

  • Downloading Flip4mac and Mac OS X Update to read .wmv files

    G'day,
I'm completely new to macs-just got a macbook pro. I have downloaded flip4mac to view .wmv files. This required an update (due to not being intel processor compliant I think) so I downlaoded Mac OS X Update (Intel). When I download this I get the message "This volume does not meet the requirements for this update"
What should I do to overcome the download problem or is there an easier way to view .wmv files?
    Thanks
Macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Flip4Mac doesn't yet work on Intel, it's not an issue with the MacOS X update. If you need to view .wmv files, you can still use Windows Media Player 9
As for the update... Are you really still on OS 10.4.5? If so, which update did you download? To go from 10.4.5 to the current version, 10.4.7, you need to download the Mac OS X Update 10.4.7 Combo Intel. The best (most convenient) way to update Apple software is usually with Software Update in the Apple menu. It will automatically select the proper version to bring you up-to-date on all your Apple software.

  • Downloading wmv file to disk

I have a link on a webpage which directly connects to a wmv file that i 'd like to download, for some reason this is not possible with windows media player (it's the first time i ever used a wind med pl)... how do i do that or do i use quicktime instead?
    thanks
    jazz

Unfortunately, not all WMV files will play in the Mac version of Windows Media Player. Also, some of them might have played but they are protected by MicroSofts Digital Rights Management. You could try the demo version of the $10 player from this outfit to see if can play it. If it will not play it you likely can't view it in MacOS.

  • Problem when saving a PowerPoint 2008 for Mac file to PDF.

When I save my PowerPoint 2008 for Mac file as a PDF, the text/font comes out wrong in the PDF -- kind of looks degraded (thinner, darker, more pixilated). I've tried changing the font in the PowerPoint file many times and tried saving it as a PDF both directly and through print -- but each time the text/font doesn't come through correctly in the PDF.  The images/photos in the PowerPoint file all convert to the PDF just fine.  Can anyone help?

  • Can't open wmv files on my mac leopard

I have Mac OSX Leopard. I tried to download wmv file to my mac and they did not open.
Then I downloaded flip4mac in order to watch windows media files.
After I downloaded flip4mac the movie goes to my downloads but they wont open or play. When i click on it (downloaded icon, it just kind of grow a bit biger, comes back and that's it.
Could someone try to simplify this for me since I am new in Mac Technology.
    Thanks.

You'll normally get the fastest and most accurate responses if you ask in the QuickTime for Mac forum.
Answering quickly, there are codecs in Windows Media that have never been ported to Mac OS X. This particularly applies to any copy-protected content; there is no way to play any WMV that's copy-protected in Mac OS X.
Beyond that, there's not much we can say without knowing more about these videos. If you can tell us where you got these videos, we may be able to offer additional suggestions.
    Regards.

  • .wmv files on intel macs

I would recommend you use Videolan's VLC Player, which has now been updated.
This is now Intel Mac compatible and can play many different file formats including ASF, WMV and WMA.

  • HT3775 What is required to play a .wmv file on a MAC OS X 10.6.8?

I have a MAC desktop with an MAC OS X 10.6.8 and have tried everything known to man to be able to play an .wmv file.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

Not all of Microsoft's codecs have been licensed to be ported to other platforms, so it's quite possible that you cannot play that WMV in Mac OS X, even though it does not contain DRM. You can try asking for assistance in the Flip4Mac forums:
    http://forum.telestream.net/forum/default.aspx?FTVAR_SUBCAT=5&NoCookies=y&subcat name=Flip4Mac%20WMV%20Components%20For%20QuickTime
and they may be able to help. Otherwise you'll probably have to use a Windows system, either on your Mac or another computer, to view that video.

  • Working with .wmv files on my new Mac

    Hi everyone,
I have some videos that I downloaded onto my older pc that I would like to use in iMovie. Does anyone know how I can edit and/or convert it into a format to use on my mac?
    Thanks,
    Karen

You can use the shareware program ReelBean to convert your .wmv to an mpeg-4 file (I think it does this in the free mode, but if not a license is $15), and then import that iMovie.
To view the .wmv files, you need the freeware Flip4Mac. I suspect you will need the components installed by Flip4Mac for ReelBean to work with wmv files - not sure, but it won't hurt to install it.
    Hope this helps...

  • How do you play MPG and WMV files on a MAC?

I am no longer able to play MPG and WMV files on my MAC. I have Flip4MAC, which is I think what I used to use to play them (but not sure). All I know is that I used to be able to before but now they won't play. Do I need some sort of different software or has Microsoft started making these files in a way that won't allow MAC users to play them? If anyone is kind enough to help, please explain in the most basic terms as I'm not that computer literate.

If the .mpg/.mpeg files are non-rights-protected you should be able to play them in Quicktime or iTunes. If the wmv files are non-rights-protected you should be able to use Flip4Mac. If the mpg/mpeg or wmv files are rights-protected you'll need the software or subscription that allows you to view copyrighted files.

  • Exporting from a MAC in FCP to a WMV file

    Hi,
Having some issues with exporting a WMV file on Final Cut 5. It will only export a 30 second clip. I have been reading that I need to buy Flip4Mac or Quicktime Pro to convert a Quicktime file into a full lenth WMV file. Do I really need to purchase more software? Or is there a way to to do that in Final Cut or Compressor? I am trying to export a 720x480 WMV file from a 1280x720 file.
    Thanks in advance.

I have used Media Converter for mac by iSkysoft for the past year - $50.

Use the free version of Flip4Mac. If those WMV files contain DRM, you don't.
