WMV to AAC

My friend has a zune and has a copy of 300. the file he gave me is in WMV format. Im not sure how to add the file to my itunes library. it is in my WMP library and i can play it with WMP. i checked the support guides on itunes and tried to import the file as well as add it to my library. neither will work. i need to know if i need to convert the file from WMV to AAC. i also need to know how to start the conversion process.

I am not sure there's a legal way to own 300 in WMV format. Kind of a legal grey area, and not sure it can be discussed here. Sorry.

  • Importing WMV files into iTunes

    Hey folks!
I did this before when changing from PC to Mac, I moved all my music onto my mac and iTunes converted them from WMV to AAC, or M4A I'm not sure.
I'm trying to do the same thing now and it's doing nothing, like ignoring the command to import. Really annoying.
Any help or suggestions? I know it's possible.
    Cheers.

iTunes Mac cannot convert wma files - iTunes PC can.
Convert the files on a PC then bring them into iTunes Mac.

  • Pocket Playlist- how to convert mp4 file to use on pocket playlist

I have an mp4 video that i would like to use on my pocket playlist, but not sure how to convert the file?

    Hello Andy,
I do not have an HP Pocket drive but according to the manual...
The pocket acts as any other drive to store files on. Its the media player that you use that has to support the type of file you are playing.
This is cut from the manual.
"File types supported by HP Pocket PlaylistYour playback device may not support all of the following formats. If your playback device does not support a format, use the ArcSoft MediaConverter 7 computer application to convert (transcode) the files into a format that will play back on your mobile device.
HP Pocket Playlist supports the following file formats:
Video: .avi, .3gp, .flv, .m4v, .m4p, .mov, mp4, .mpeg, .mpeg2, .mpg, .ogg, .qt, .ts, .tts, .wmv
Music: .aac, .ac3, .adts, asf, .lpcm, .m4a, .mp3, wav, wma
Photo: .bmp, .gif, .jpeg, .png, .tiff, .tif
You need to import files with the "Arcsoft Media Converter" which will convert the format for you.
Here are the links to all the info for HP Pocket Drives.

  • How to converting WMV files?

How to converting WMV files from PC to iPod playable files? thanks for all your help

I just found this tip on allexperts.com...
I'm on a windows box at work, so I cant verify the accuracy.
I have one at home...name escapes me right now...icon is a blue square with 5 black dots (like on a die). It converts audio formats, video formats, extracts audio from video, and will batch process.
Maybe someone will recognize the desciption and be able to name it.

Tunes will convert wma to mp3 (or acc) format. Here are the instructions:
To convert a song's file format:
Choose iTunes > Preferences, then click the Advanced button at the top of the window and click Importing.
From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
Select one or more songs in your library, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3, Convert Selection to AAC, Convert Selection to Apple Lossless, Convert Selection to AIFF, or Convert Selection to WAV. (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences.)
To convert all the songs in a folder or on a disk, hold down the Option key and choose Advanced > "Convert Selection to," then choose the folder or disk containing the songs you want to convert. All the songs in the folder or on the disk will be converted except songs you purchased from the iTunes Store. (Purchased songs are encoded using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted.)

  • Best settings for conversion from .wmv to .mov

    Hi,
I have been given an old video clip supplied as .wmv file (4:3). I need to edit it and and deliver a new version in the same settings. My question is what is the best way to convert this to edit in FCP and export out.
Using quicktime (and Flip4mac Studio), I export > Movie to Quicktime Movie, but which compression type should I use to limit any loss of picture. I've tried Uncompressed 8-bit the file has massively increased in size from 90MB to 10GB.
    Any ideas?

  • Export all chapters to wmv

When I try to export an m4v video with multiple chapters, quicktime 7 pro only exports the first chapter.
How do I export the entire movie with all chapters to wmv ?
    Thanks in Advance
    ~D

When I try to export an m4v video with multiple chapters, quicktime 7 pro only exports the first chapter.
I am surprised you got any. QT 7 does not support the muxing of a chapter track during export and normally "flattens" the content to just the audio/video content during such operations. You can, of course, perform the conversion to WMV and then open the new WMV file, add a "Chapter" track, and save the content to an MOV file container.
Alternatively, you can convert the file to WMV, open the WMV file in QT 7 Pro, save the file to an MOV container, open the new file in GarageBand, graphically chapter the file manually, export the file as "Full Quality", open the "full quality" file delete the added extraneous AAC audio track, re-activate the original WMA track, and save the MOV file which now contains WMV, WMA, and working "Chapter" track content. This may sound like an arduous work flow, but actually is very fast if you already know where you want the chapter tacks placed.
While I know you can do this, I don't normally deal with WMV content and don't know if these QT "WMV" files are compatible with available players for all platforms. (I.e., for me it was just an exercise in "solution" finding.)

  • Unable to play wmv videos on Nokia X6

    Hello All,
I have Nokia X6 (S60V5) phone and I am trying to play wmv videos on it with no luck. Its Device details says that it can play wmv9
    Video Playback Formats    3GPP formats (H.263), Flash Video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, RealVideo 7,8, WMV 9
I did encode a sample video with following config.
    Resolution:        480x360
    Video Bit rate   : 1024K
Video Codec:     wmv3 (which is WMV9)
    Audio codec:      wmav3
    Sampling Rate: 44100
    Audio bitrate:     128K
This configuration is not supprted on X6
Could anyone tell me what should be the configuration of wmv file inorder to be played on Nokia X6?
    Thanks in advance,

I usually use flv or mp4 as the container and encode to:
    Video:
    MPEG-4 Video (mp4v)
    640x360 resolution
Approx 700 to 800 kbps bitrate
    29.9 fps framerate
    Audio:
    MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)
    stereo,
    Approx 128 kbps bitrate
    44.1 kHz sample rate
Although the X6 is meant to be able to play H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC (Part 10) I find it fails to play any videos using this codec at resolutions of 640x360 at any decent bitrates and framerates which can be a real pain.
I think the X6 can also playback MPEG-4 (Part 2) / H.263 but I don't normally use this particular standard.
    According to
    http://www.forum.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/X6-00/
Compatible codecs are 3GPP formats (H.263), Flash Video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, RealVideo 7,8, WMV 9 with video playback frame rate of 30 fps.

  • Why don't WMV files Act like MPG files?

I use a mid 2012 Mac Pro; run OS X 10.9 Mavericks.  When I was using OS X 10.5.8 Leopard the icons on my WMV files were flipped to show a picture of the video; just like all my MPG files.  Why doesn't Mavericks do that?  And is there a way I can flip the icons on my WMV files to show a picture again?

    How do I convert a file to a QL/QT X v10.3 compatible file?
    1) This depends on the software you have installed on your system. Basically you need to either have one of the purchase Flip4Mac products installed on your system or a conversion app that has built-in codec support and the source file will have to be unprotected. I have Telestream's Flip4Mac Studio (includes basic import and ecport codecs) so I can use QT 7 Pro, MPEG Streamclip, QT X v10.3, the Mavericks Finder level AV Convert software, or the free Flip Player to perform these conversions. If you don't have a paid Flip4Mac codec installed for use with apps that access you system QT codec components configuration, then you could try a free app like HandBreake or on of the commercial converters available for the Mac.
    2) If you already have the Player Pro (or greater) codec package installed on your system, then you can simply open your unencrypted WMV file in the QT X v10.3 player and it will automatically be converted to an H.264/AAC MOV file.
    3) If you already have the Player Pro (or greater) codec package installed on your system, then you can simply select one or more WMV file icons in the Finder that you want to convert and then select the Context Adaptive menu (Control-Click menu) and select the "Servoices > Encode Selected Video Files" option. This option will open a widow allowing you select a few conversion options like "High/Low" quality settings for targerted H.264/AAC display settings or the selection of the Apple ProRes 422/PCM codec best used as an inermediate codec if you plan to edit the converted file in a video editor at a later time.
    4) If you already have the Player Pro (or greater) codec package installed on your system, then you can simply open your unencrypted WMV file in the free Flip Player and export your file(s) to app or device targeted presets.
    5) If you already have the Player Pro (or greater) codec package installed on your system, then you can simply open your unencrypted WMV file in the either QT 7 Pro v7.6.6 player or free MPEG Streamclip app (if installed) for export to device targeted M4V, "Movie to MPEG-4" MP4, or compatible "Movie to QuickTime" MOV files (e.g., H.264/AAC, MJPEG/PCM, etc. compression format files.
    6) If you don't have a WMV support codec package installed on your system, then you can try opening the file in the Free HandBrake app and us it to convert to one of available Apple compatible presets or create a custom preset of your own. (Note: I have only used this with common WMV downloaded files like WMA 9 audio with WMV 8 video in the WMV container.)
    7) If you already have a commercial converter with WMV support built into the application installed on your system then you can use it to perform a conversion of your WMV files.
How do I create an icon manually?
    1) Basically you select a compatible image file of a compatible size and shape and drop it to the "Info" window (Finder "Command-I" shortcut) icon area. I would normally recommend a JPEG image of VGA-like dimensions and in the shape you prefer. For instance, you can export/capture a frame from your movie and convert it to a JPEG image having the same aspect as your video with a 640 pixel width at 72dpi, create a 640x640 JPEG image if you prefer a more "record" album-like icon, create aposter or DVD case-like JPEG image if desired, or anything in betweem. Just be aware that if the images are too large in an incompatible format, they will be rejected when you try to drag 'n drop them to the info window. (I.e., it would be ridiculous to try and use an 8-, 10-, or 12-megapixel image as your icon.)
    2) Where compatible, you can also assign a custom designed metadata "poster-frame" wich I believ is still used by the finder as an icon image. (Don't quote me on this yet as I have not confirmed it yet under Mavericks as it is taking som much time to just run down what is and is not still working video-wise un this new system.)

  • Mp2 or aac support

I must be missing something here, but I can't find a way of importing mp2 files or saving aac files. Any one have any idea?

    Hi Ray,
I may have made an slight error in the beta forums. I thought that our trial version would support all the license-restricted codecs that we were unable to provide in the beta releases, but it appears only our mp3 license allows for release in the trial. During the installation of Soundbooth, you may have noticed a disabled checkbox entry to install Soundbooth Codecs, with the note that it requires a serial number to activate. This codec pack contains the necessary libraries for MP2 support.
Here's a list of the full direct import and export formats supported by the retail edition of Soundbooth CS3:
    AVI Movie (*.avi)
    DV Stream (*.dv)
MP3 Audio (*.mp3, *.mpeg, *.mpg, *.mpa, *.mpe)
    MPEG Movie (*.mpeg, *.mpe, *.mpg, *.m2v, *.mpa, *.mp2, *.m2a, *.mpv, *.m2p, *.m2t)
    MPEG Movie (*.mpeg, *.vob, *.mpe, *.mpg, *.m2v, *.mpa, *.mp2, *.m2a, *.mpv, *.m2p, *.m2t, *.m2ts, *.m1v, *.mp4, *.m4v, *.m4a, *.aac, *.3gp, *.avc, *.264)
    Macintosh Audio AIFF (*.aif, *.aiff)
    Quick Time Movie (*.mov)
    Windows Media (*.wmv, *.wma, *.asf)
    Windows WAVE audio file (*.wav)
    Soundbooth Score Template (*.sbst)
    Soundbooth Score Document (*.sbsc)
I believe the Windows Media formats may be limited to the Windows platform only. The reason you see multiple MPEG listings is due to multiple MPEG codecs including MainConcept and Apple Quicktime. If you save as H.264 (mp4) and choose "Audio Only" it will export as a standard AAC file.

I am trying to export an .mov file to a .wmv file using Quicktime 7.0 Pro. It exports the file fine, but it does not convert the entire file, the last part of the file is not there. You can use VisualHub to convert to WMV without restrictions.
It's only available in the wild, because it's no longer supported. You can also download it on this page:
    http://www.wyodor.net/MoreEmbed/embedmedia.html
Edit: To convert WMV to a h264/AAC movie without restrictions you need the Beta version of the free Flip4Mac for Snow Leopard.
It contains a bug that was later fixed. [Read my blog about it|http://translate.google.nl/translate?js=y&prev=t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wyodor.net%2Fblog%2Farchives %2F10-01-200910-31-2009.html&sl=nl&tl=en] (Google translation, so smile) where you can download the Beta. Simply Install it and be happy.

  • Quality degradation when editing a WMV file

I have a long duration WMV file (more than one hour) that I want to edit, with the goal of creating multiple files that can be uploaded to YouTube. The file is recording of a PowerPoint presentation with voiceover. It was delivered live on Webex (Cisco's online meeting service), recorded using Webex's built-in recording, then converted from their proprietary format (file extension .ARF) to WMV using the converter utility that Webex provides.
The resulting WMV is quite large (approx 150 MB) and quite sharp/clear to watch/listen when played in the Windows media player.
As stated above, I want to edit the video into chunks that are 15 minutes or shorter, and post to YouTube.
I am using Adobe Premiere Elements v. 8.
So, I do my editing, resulting in content that is less than 15 minutes. I go to the Share tab, click on Personal Computer as the type of share, and choose Windows Media. The file renders. What results is a new WMV that, when played in the Windows media player, has just awful visual quality - the smaller text in the PowerPoint cannot even be read, whereas it was quite easy to read in the original WMV recording.
Any ideas how I can get output that is as good as my original recording?
Is it really necessary to "re-render" the project, since I am going from WMV to WMV? Can't I just snip/delete to get the content that I want to keep, without rendering?

I am still struggling to get a slide show of decent clarity. Am looking at the article you mentioned - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/450798?tstart=0 – but it raises a number of questions for me.
I’m working on Windows Vista with Adobe Premiere Elements v. 10 (I have upgraded). I also have Adobe Photoshop CS3.
You write “This workflow is for NTSC 4:3 720x480 with a PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) of 0.9. If your Project’s Presets are different, use those specs to resize to.”
That’s a good place to start. The slides I am working with are TIF images extracted from PowerPoint and saved at 300 DPI. Their default size is 3070 x 2302, but I can open them in Photoshop and resize.
My goal is to create a slide show for uploading to YouTube. I have already extracted the audio as an AAC file and will add that in.
Given my goal and the materials I am starting with, what are the ideal pre-sets to choose when I begin the project?
Or, how do I choose the Project Presets that you use? The default project settings (shown in the dialogue box where I give my project a name and storage location) appear to be NTSC-AVCHD-AVCHD LITE 720p24. If I click the “Change settings” button I am shown a number of choices (for example, the sub-categories within NTSC are AVCHD, DSLR, DV, FLIP, Hard disk flash memory camcorders, and HDV. Which matches the “NTSC 4:3 720x480 with a PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) of 0.9” that you use?
4:3 refers to the image’s aspect ratio, correct? I did not look at every Project Preset that is offered, but in the ones I did look at, I did not see a 4:3 aspect ratio specified…
    Can you clarify?
