WMV-to-avi/mp4/3gp converter on the phone?

I am looking for a Symbian converter that willl turn WMV files into S60v3 playable files, e.g. 3gp, mp4 or avi.
What I have found is a whole range of apps which convert on the pc and then you transfer the file to the phone, but what I would need is a converter in the phone.
Is there anything like that?

Hi rolanda:
be sure to understand that .avi files are just containers and not just one type of file. Please read what Dan Slagle says here and be certain to click on to all of his links:

  • Recommend MP4 editor / converter for the PC

I am accumulating MP4 videos on my PC (Vista64) and would like to edit/convert them for sharing and uploading on various sites (blogger, facebook, etc)
I thought that PC Suite or Ovi Suite included something but it only converts to the phone, not the other direction.
Any recommendations? Free apps are always appreciated, but I don't mind spending some cash on a solid application.
    thanks,

If you just require basic edit (cutting, joining, filtering) with no prior conversion, Avidemux supports MP4 input and is free: http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/ Some info here: http://forum.videohelp.com/topic357763.html (to get started just drag and drop MP4 file into program window).
There's also Xilisoft (free trial): http://www.xilisoft.com/video-editing-software.html, and QuickTime Pro.
Check sites for preferred output formats.
See what you think, I'm sure others will have their own suggestions.

  • What is the best avi tp 3gp video converter?

Hi could i have advice on this please, because when i try to load my avi into nokia multimedia player it is not recognised, so i;d like to know which free avi to 3gp converter is best
    thanks!

Those other posters are steering you in the right direction. Flip4Mac is the best thing for this, and all the paid functions will work in the free downloaded version, there's just some limitations on the length of any one clip, and a watermark on the video, but it will let you see how well it works...well worth the affordable $.

  • Convert WMV files to MPEG  and/or  get Quicktime plug-in for WMV and AVI

    Hi Apple experts,
I need to convert some WMV files to MPEG format or something that will play natively on a Mac in QuickTime or iTunes.
I was advised that the VLC app that will convert WMV to MPEG4?... but the page at the URL below indicates that this version of VLC is a player and does not say anything about converting WMV to MPEG...
    http://vlc-download.com/download-vlc/?gclid=COrY_NKghKYCFQN7gwoduQy4qA
I would like to convert WMV files to MPEG so they will play in QuickTime or in iTunes on a Mac by just double-clicking them... for family members with Macs like me.
I am working on a PC where I am right now, but I have Macs at home and at work. I am on a PC for the time being at a friends place and I've produced a few .wmv files in Windows Live Movie Maker 2011. (Sorry Steve, it's just for a test).
QuickTime will not play WMV files, nor AVI files, but it indicates that it can use a plug-in to do so, but the QuickTime webpage for plug-ins that it takes me to doesn't have any plug-ins for WMV or AVI format files.
Of course the Windows Media Player plays the WMV and AVI files, but is there also a way to make them play in QuickTime or iTunes besides converting them?
    Thanks so much,

    Hi QTKirk,
I would like to be able to just give my family these files on a CD for high-res viewing on a computer, in addition to the DVDs that I have made for their TVs.
Since I don't control what they install on their computers, they don't necessarily have Flip4Mac on their Macs like I do... I just want them to be able to play MPEGs from a file on a CD or on their hard drives by simply double-clicking them.
After working with the recommended VLC player that also allegedly converts WMV files to MPEGs, for 8 hours, I have a result with the 7th attempt that mimics the worst kind of modern digital art that I've ever seen... I wish I could plug in the screenshot of the MPEG video that VLC produced... completely useless garbage.
Are there any other suggestions for a converter that simply handles converting WMV to any kind of MPEG file?
FFE was going to be the one that I tried until I read a post about VLC... that turned out to be a waste of 8 hours of sleepless time.

  • How to convert AVI-files to work on the Nano

How can I convert AVI-files to work on the Nano? What file-type does it support and what software do I use to convert the files?

    Hello RoyalOak,
Compatible video formats for your iPod can be found on your iPod's specs page, which can be found below. However, I decided to include the long list in this thread anyways, so here it is.
    _*Compatible Video Formats*_
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

There are several third party applications available to help convert your movies to a more iPod friendly format. Here are a few.
    [HandBrake|http://handbrake.fr>
    [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com>
Once you have the videos in an iPod friendly format, import it into iTunes, configure your iPod to sync videos, and then be on your way.

  • I would like to know how to put my .mp4 music videos into the .....

    Hello
I finally learned how to turn my music videos into a format that will play on my ipod and I am excited as **** about the whole thing. My one problem is I can't seem to put the music videos into the music video section. I would like to put my music videos in the music video section and I plan on making some of my favorite movies into .mp4 and keep them in the movies section. I would also like to know if I can have different folders for my movies? probably not eh? I guess they might just have to be in one big pile. That's ok I guess. So what's with the music video section? It would be nice to put them there. I guess while I am waiting for a response I am just going to convert the music videos and put them in the movies section..
Also I would like to share what program I am using to convert the files .. it's called
    " WinAVI iPod/PSP/3GP/MP4 Video Converter "
And it works great! Someone on my Facebook account told me about it. I tried to ask people here what I should use but I don't think I got a straight answer ( either that or I am mildly ******** or something )
One more question. How to I put my pictures into separate folders on my ipod?
    Aaron

    Hi everyone !
please forget about the pictures question because I figured that out ok !!
I just need to know if it is possible to put my .mp4 music videos in the music video section of iTunes and my iPod. Like I said I want to just put full length movies in the movie section. And I would like to have my movies in maybe separate folders like I said. One for Anime, One for Animation ect ect ..
ALSO I am wondering can I make my Windows Media Player Classic the default for .mp4 files? I tried to do that but it was giving me some weird error message
when I try and make it the default for .mp4 I get this message
" Windows Media Player Classic does not have enough privileges to change file formats. Please click on " Modify " button To Get Administrator rights. "
Does this mean that only Apple programs should be used to view these files?

... or am I really going to be forced to pay 50$ just to burn a DVD?
    what makes you thinking that?
avi is just a media-container, a 'wrapper', no format, no codec.
depending on what codec(s) are in use, iDVD or other DVD-creator-apps can transcode 'out of the box'.
teaching the Quicktime-engine new codecs is done by the free tool www.perian.org
if your files need conversion, the free tool Mpeg Streamclip is highly recommended.
paying licences is only needed, when wmv is in use - Microsoft likes to get paid, if you use its proprietary codecs outside Windows (flip4mac is a MS-owned company).
most $$ converters on the market are based upon the free ffmpeg-library, so you pay for a nice GUI, some one-click-convenience. but the free tools, mentioned above, do same ...

  • Wmv and avi Won't play on new iMac

I used to be able to play wmv and avi on my old G4. I can't play either now. Technically an avi file will open and play on Real Player, but as it "plays" is has neither images nor sound. wmv won't play at all. When I try to open them in Quicktime I get a message that they're not movie files. I downloaded and installed applications called DivX and 3ivx, which apparently are supposed to play wmv or allow Quicktime to play them, but so far they don't.
When I try to drag a wmv file to the DivX converter, I get an error message with that says "The movie could not be converted. It contains no recognizable movie. (-2048). This happens with both new wmv files I download on my iMac, and old ones I transferred from my G4.d
When I drag an avi file to DivX, it says it has converted it, but then it "plays" the way it did on Real Player, with neither image nor sound.
Well it just "converted" an old wmv from 2001, and now it's "playing" without image or sound!
Well I THOUGHT I'd downloaded 3ivx, but it installs a 3ivx folder in my Applications file that doesn't contain the 3ivx application so far as I can tell. The two applications are Get 3ivx! and Uninstall 3ivx.
Can anyone help me out here?

Ok, with the AVI files that say "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file." I can't do do that. With the file that gives me sound but not image, it says that the format is Indeo 3 (Perian). One that plays but has neither sound nor image says the same thing. Another that plays with neither sound nor image says IV31. Does that mean anything to you? Thanks.
I don't actually know what a codec is either.

  • AVI to DVD, is Toast the best video quality I can get?

I have a bunch of DIVX AVI's, DVD quality, to convert to DVD, I know it can be done in iMovie exported to iDVD. But that takes too long and I don't want a Menu. I've been using Toast on my MINI 1.25 but it takes forever to encode. I've seen encoding take up to, but not limited to 6hrs.
I am not as much worried about the time it takes as I usually do this as I go to bed, in the morning it's done. However, the picture quality is not as good as it was on my MAC, or the camera. I have all settings to best picture quality, taking the most time encoding.
What am I doing wrong if anything? Is toast the best I can get?
When I had a basement Windows Server, I used Roxio's Media Creator 7 and it had a DIVX AVI to DVD converter (also took hours to encode), but at least the picture quality was better if not the same as a DVD.
    PLEASE HELP.

    Hello shane3547,
Bumping threads is considered very rude.
divx AVI's are highly compressed files and will take as long to uncompress them as it would to have made the divx avi in the first place.
It takes an imac G5 about 6 hours to rip and compress a DVD into an mp4, xvid or divx file.
It takes my 2ghz dual core intel imac approx 50 mins to rip and compress a DVD.
Unfortunately until Roxio bring out a intel native version of Toast you wont see speeds like that converting divx to dvd.
As far as quality goes you wont gain any quality at converting divx back into DVD. divx is lossy compression.
In my opinion it a waste of time and effort converting divx to dvd, it is easier to purchase a DVD player that can play all formats of movies. You can get dvd divx players in the UK for as little as £30.

  • Player for E63 which supports Wmv MPeg Avi...forma...

I need Multi Media player for E63 which supports Wmv MPeg Avi...formats.
where can i get that ..any help?
    Thanks in advance.

All formats not possible you would require a very large number of codecs .
Mpeg   has many formats  and AVI is only a container not a format .
    E63 playbacks
Video playback file formats: .Flash Lite 3, mp4, .3gp; codecs: H.263, MPEG-4 VSP

  • AVI to MOV converter

Any1 knows a good avi to mov converter that is free of charge??
    THX

Does MPEG Streamclip do what you want? Note that AVI is a container, not a file format; the audio and video parts of it may be encoded with any codec.

How do I export wmv and avi files from media encoder on a mac in CC2014?

    Nonsense.
Apple Compressor has been doing wmf exports for a decade. I have the Quicktime export components from Telestream and they appear as presets in Compressor. They should be available in Media Encoder or they should be importable. Adove apparently refuses to see them. Still trying to figure that out.

  • Nokia N86 - AVI/MP4 with higher resolution

hi, I have a new N86 - very pleased with it do far. One thing I'd like to do though, is use the TV-out to play video files on a TV almost like a DVD player (eg to watch a film in a hotel through the phone). It works for "normal" MP4 files that have a resolution less than the mobile can view, but it didn't play a higher resolution clip that would be needed to get a decent picture on a TV. Is there anything I can do about this? I think I saw somewhere that Coreplayer may be able to play AVI files around 700mb, which may do it.

Yep, just get a core player. Its not free though.

  • How to import two AVI video files & convert to one FLV ?

    Status:
    - Newbie using PC & Flash CS3 ver9l
    - I can import a single AVI video file and convert it to an FLV video.
    Problem:
    - I have two AVI video files... one 4GB (20 minute) long and one 2GB (10 minute) long... and want to combine them to have a single 30 minute long FLV video file.
    Question:
    - Can I do this in Flash? When I "convert" a single AVI video to a FLV using the File, Import method... I can't really see the video on the Flash time line. I'm a newbie so I'm probably doing something wrong.
    - I tried doing a File, Import for file-1.avi and then doing it for file-2.avi... but the two were on top of each other... and not end to end.
Maybe some kind sould will walk me through this.
    Thanks for any help.

Your not going to be able to combine two videos as one in flash, if your using Win try Win Movie Maker, I believe you can drag both into a WMVM timeline and can then save as one file, then you can use AVC video converter or the like to encode them into an .flv or.f4v file.

How do I export an AVI file from a Mac?
Using CS6, Media Encoder 6.0.2 on Mac OS 10.8.2.
You would need to buy an application called Flip4Mac from Telestream.  There's a free tryout version, but it only transcodes half the clip.
With it, you can transcode to any sort of Windows-centric media.
