Woeful state of font management on windows

anyone out there who has font managment software that
autoactivates in indesign at least
doesn't make your system slow or unstable even with 5000 fonts.
doesn't slow down opening of documents
I've now tried font agent pro (no auto activation in cs6), really crap support, auto activation made photoshop cs5 unstable, failed to activate type 1 fonts in x64 adobe software, clunky
Type DNA manager (no official support for windows 8, no autoactivation, slow, no support?)
Extensis suitcase fusion 4 (delays photoshop docs opening by 25 seconds, delays photoshop opening by 15 seconds, clashes with other software, buggy, crap support).
I'm just about to try maintype, but notice on their support forum issues that havn't been answered for over a month.
Really this is pathetic

FYI for anyone who stumbles on this thread.  Maintype font activation does not work with indesign CC and may not ever.
http://forum.high-logic.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4214
which means that the only windows 8 solution for font activation is suitcase.
If anyone knows different, post here!
EDIT: me, I know different! - Apparently this one offers autoactivation, I'm trialing it now

  • Good Font manager for Windows 7/8

    Hello,
Like the topic says, I'm looking for a good font manager for my Windows machine. I saw NexusFont at xiles.net, and wanted to see if anyone had experience with that or any other programs. Maybe something Adobe has that I overlooked. Obviously, I'm new to the font management game.
    Thanks!

I downloaded the trial of this (Extensis Suitcase Fusion), installed it, and Photoshop came grinding to a halt. I had to uninstall. Any ideas why? I'm running Windows 7, CC 2014. Still looking for a decent font manager on Windows.

  • Font management in windows 7

I've put up with font agent pro on w7 x64 for years now, finally had enough of the fact that photoshop does not see type one fonts that are acivated by this software.  Can anyone reccommend an alternative (and one that will let me build sets and prefferably do auto-activation in adobe products)

    Hello Dov
At risk of being a cheeky ***** I have another question that I think you will be able to help with.  We have a great deal of publications still in Pagemaker (7.0).  We are using Indesign CS4 but some users need to have access to pagemaker on a daily basis.  So I am trying to avoind seperate PC's or XP mode in Win 7.  is it as risky to install Pagemaker on Win 7.  i know it sounds crazy but these are the problems I am facing.
Thanks very much for your time and input.

  • Font management with InDesign and Windows 7

    Hello
I am presently looking to upgrade to Windows 7 and use InDesign CS4.  I have had a play with installing postscript type 1 fonts using the windows font manager and it seems absoloutley average, but it worked (I think).  I was wondering if you had any suggestions of what would be best practice in this setup.
    Thanks for your time

Thanks for that.  I spoke to the team using indesign and they would love to move to Extensis Suitcase but they had experienced problems with MathMagic pro.  I am going to test this out and hopefully resolve it but I wondered if you had any knowledge of compatibility issues?
    Thanks again

  • PC Font Management, CS4 and Windows 7

    I have a new PC.
Starting from scratch I had Windows Vista 64 installed as this was just before the Microsnot launch of Windows 7. I bought CS4 Design Premium and had this pre-loaded. I downloaded Extensis Font Fusion 2 and loaded that. After loading this I had issues with Illustrator crashing and also Indesign and Flash. Also Photoshop 64 pretty much wouldn't work at all. I removed Font Fusion2 and found the Adobe products were less flakey but still not solid. I then upgraded Windows to V7 64bit. This also improved matters though PS64 still wasn't 100% stable.I called extensis and they said that they had released a version that answered this issue, but since loading the latest version of Suitcase Fusion 2 Illustrator has become very much less stable and also PS64 is now unusable, which is a bit of a shag as I have paid to have 12 gB of ram in this machine which is only used by the 64bit apps.
I have called Adobe technical who were pretty unhelpful.
Has anyone found a good type manager for under £100 that actually works with Adobe CS4?

If you're working on a stand-alone machine, why not trying to work without font management?
I worked with suitcase 11,  and all went fine. (running on xp64).
Since we're in a network, we opted for universal type server and client, both working well. I'm sure that on the web the're several free managers can be found

  • Edit/Manage Font Favorites in Font Manager Window?

Is there a way to delete, reset, and/or re-order Favorites from the Font Favorites list in the Font Manager that is used by the iWork apps? My goal is to remove all or several of them and re-establish my favorites. Thanks!

User library > Font Collections > Drop the Favourites collection in the trash.
Or drag the fonts out of the list to the desktop .... Poof
I can't try to reorder them because I don't have any left...

  • Font Management Software for PC

Hi folks, I'm new to the adobe forums so excuse me if this question is redundant.  I was wondering if anyone here knows of something like font suitcase for windows that lets you activate and deactivate fonts but a less expensive/free version   Help is much appreciated!!

If you want a round-up of the many options for Windows, see this blog post I did when I was back at Adobe a couple of years ago. Some of the details of versions are going to be off, but for identifying the cheaper options and getting a few ideas of what they're like, it might be helpful:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/typblography/2007/10/win_font_mgmt.html
Of course, now that I'm the product manager for font solutions at Extensis, I'd rather you bought our brand-new Suitcase Fusion 2 for Windows, which is pretty cool.
    Cheers,

  • Indesign CS5.5 - Error signature - font manager.rpln

OS : Microsoft Windows XP SP3
    Indesign CS 5.5  version 7.5.2
    font manager.rpln - file version 7.5.2.318, product version 7.5.2 - checksum  md5 a06eb67598ab75fb0bd4520cdf37ebf7
    Error signature
AppName: indesign.exe     AppVer: 7.5.2.318     Mod Name: font manager.rpln
    ModVer: 7.5.2.318     Offset: 000099f1
    link: http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/6335/indddd.png
This error occurs apparently at a random time. Still, I noticed that is occurs more ofter when using 'Balance Columns' from 'Text Frame Options' and the 'Preview' box is checked.
    Any suggestions to fix it?

    To be more clearly:
    1. With Cambria Fonts installed (files: CAMBRIA.TTC, CAMBRIAB.TTF, CAMBRIAI.TTF, CAMBRIAZ.TTF  all 4 version 5.96 located in windows\fonts folder)  ID crashes and Office 2010 equations if is just fine.
    2. Without Cambria Fonts, ID is ok, but Office 2010 equations (from Word) are blank, the design of the equation is not shown (missing font - wich is Cambria Regulat - realised that Math Cambria is included there) and soon Word 2010 crashes.
So the Cambria font is version 5.96 and those 4 files are for Regular, Bold, Italic and Bold-Italic.
There is no other file or font with prefix Cambria, in Fonts folder or available in any application.
    New experiment:
    1. Installed just Cambria Regular font (CAMBRIA.TTC file version 5.96). Word 2010 equations are ok but ID crashes.
Here is the Word 2010 equations problem:

  • Font Management Guidance

Just installed CS4 for Windows. Currently using Extensis Suitcase for Windows (v11x). I don't believe that the "auto activation" feature works with CS4. What type of font management program that incorporates that type of feature would you folks recommend?
    Thanks in advance...
    ~Vince

I would recommend you stay clear of any auto-activation in Windows. We see a lot of reported porblems here that are solved by turning it off. I've been running without a font manager (still looking for one I like) since upgrading to XP when CCS3 was released, and I don't miss it that much anymore.

  • Font Management for PC

    Hi,
I was surprised that I didn't find any thread on Font Management. It can be a designer's nightmare if there is no good font management.
On the mac I am using FontExplorer X. It was free till lately and very good. Now it is a commercial application.
My problem, though, is on the Windows machines. I have Bitsream Font Navigator, that came with the Corel Suite. It is not good, but at least it reduces the headache a bit.
What are the best options for a mixed (Mac and Windows) environment? With or without a server.

Jim, I have FontExplorerX 1.2.3. I already downloaded the trial and will probably purchase the Pro version.
Thanks for the windows link. A few weeks ago I found it but didn't have time to download. since then, they removed the link from their site, or I was unable to find it.
I know I am not alone, and many other print designers have the same issues, and yet I could not find any post in this Print Design Discussion about font management.

  • Font Management - No Fonts Found

CFDocument does not work due to having no fonts found in Font Management in CF9 Administrator.
also, registering fonts via Font Management fails - nothing but a blank page is displayed when a font path is submitted. here's my system info:
    - Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition
    - ColdFusion 9.01 Enterprise
I've also installed Acrobat X Pro to see if its fonts would be listed in CF9 Administrator, but failed.
any help would be greatly appreicated.
    thanks!

Just out of curiosity, by “uninstalling the CHF2”, do you mean you just removed the cfh9010002.jar? or did you also revert the changes made to the CFIDE, \lib, and \wwwroot]WEB-INF\lib directories? It would just be interesting to know if you did only the former (the jar) and not the latter. Similarly, if you really mean you uninstalled CF and reinstalled it to not include the CHF2, I’ll just note that sometimes problems with the Admin breaking are due instead to mistakes made in updating those other 3 directories. Just sharing the observation.

It appears in my case this was caused by the Cumulative Hot Fix 2. After uninstalling the hot fix 2 the fonts are again listed in the CF9 administrator.
    System details:
    CF9.0.1
    Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard (64 bit)

  • What is the best font management software to use with CS6?

I currently use Extensis Fusion 3 but it cannot auto-activate my fonts in CS6. It looks like Fusion 5 is also limited. Is there a better font management software to use with CS6?

Get rid of Norton a/k/a Symantec. It is one of the worst pieces of trash you can install on a Mac.
You do not need any additional anti-virus software than is already designed into OS X to protect your Mac against malware. I assume you paid enough for your iMac and that's part of what you paid.
If you use Windows, or are concerned about harboring viruses that target Windows, or care about friends who use Windows, then get ClamXav. It's in the App Store and it is free.
Since friends don't let friends use Windows, I have no use for it.

  • Which font management software to use?

    Hi friends

    Max,
But tell me.. if this app manages font in the way where only a certain selected fonts are loaded into the windows when its boots and the rest just stay on the hard disk till they are selected? Like wat ATM deluxe used to do...

  • Which Font Management Software Do You Like?

    Hi,
I currently use Suitcase and am a little frustrated with it, mostly because I find it difficult to manage client fonts and your own font library and make sure that the correct font is activated. I dont' like the concept of the font vault.
So, I'm shoppping around for other font management software. I'm curious to hear which ones you all think are best? I've heard great things about FontAgent Pro and Font Xplorer. Which do you recommend for a graphic designer needing to manage client's fonts and a very large font libarary (20,000+ fonts)?

Look into the "Sets" feature of FontAgent Pro.  You can create Sets for each of your different (arbitrary) classifications.
Command+click on the thumbnail to open full-size image in a separate window.

  • Font management software windows7

I'm using Windows 7 now and CS5. Used to use suitcase for my temporary fonts needs, but I hear of users having problems with it now. Problems deactivating, ghost fonts in de windows/fonts folder etc. So I'm looking for alternatives.
Which are the best font managers for windows 7? I want to be able to temporarily install fonts from e.g. cd's or usb drives. But without it touching the windows/fonts folder so when I deactivate the font it won't make the windows/fonts folder bigger or mess up my windows installation in other ways. Preferably it should have auto-activation plugins for cs5 too. Don't know if suitcase 3 has improved much? Can it really make the windows/fonts folder bigger when installing temporary fonts? Or mess up the build in Windows Font Manager like it's said in forums?
Anyway, don't know of other, better, most used tools but basically it should do the same as suitcase dit. Organise font sets with the fonts being located in my own folders instead of windows/fonts. Activate/deactivate them. Add temporary fonts from e.g. cd. All without enlarging my windows/fonts folder.
    Suggestions?

Any advice on what font manager works well under windows 7 without bloating the windows/font folder or mess up windows 7's build in 'windows font manager'? What do graphic designers working with a w7 machine use as a font manager? I've read that a font could also be installed temporarilly by opening the font file and keeping its window open, but that doesn't seem to work anymore. There doesn't seem to be many font managers around for windows. And the few that do exist aren't updated to include cs5 auto activation plugins or compatible with w7.
