Woes With the Magic Mouse...

I am a proud new owner of an iMac 27 Inch computer. Everything is working flawlessly, except for one thing. I have had the computer for maybe two days, transferred all the info from my old iMac.
Recently, I was playing World of Warcraft when the game froze on me and forced me to power down the computer. Upon rebooting my computer, I noticed the mouse cursor speed had been set to an ungodly speed, and the cursor was zooming around the screen like crazy. I nearly had to set the tracking speed all the way down for it to be tolerable. Afterwards, I also noticed that my scroll features on the mouse were no longer working. I opened up the preferences to check and see what was wrong, and now my Mouse Preferences window doesn't even recognize it as a Magic Mouse, but a standard wireless one.
I want to get the Magic Mouse back up and working, but I have no idea where to go from here. As far as I know, I have all the drivers installed and working, am up to date with Snow Leopard 10.6.4, but the mouse is not being recognized as anything but a standard wireless.
Please help.

Hi m:
There are several things you can try (more or less one at a time) to try to fix the problem.
1. Run repair disk from your software install DVD.
2. Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.
3. Reset the SMC:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
4. Reset PRAM:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
5. Go to system preferences>bluetooth and delete the mouse. Restart and see if it is discovered as a magic mouse.
6. If everything else fails, reinstall OS X 10.6 from your software install DVD (over your existing system) and then run software update.

  • I use an iMac (27" 3.4) and have problems with the Magic Mouse. It does not use contact, but opens useless and unrelated submenus with every click, even on the empty desktop. I can't shift, open or close pages. Has anyone out there the same problem?

I use an iMac 27" (mid 2011). Until recently I had OSX 10.6.8 installed, but both, the HDD and SSD had to be replaced, and I lost all the memory.
After the repair through Apple Care I had OSX 10.7.5. (Lion) installed, which developed a Magic Mouse problem.
Unlike with most users, I have no problems with connection, but grapple with a different kind of erratic behaviour.
All fancy stuff is turned off in the mouse preferences. When I try to move, open or close pages, unrelated submenus pop up and hinder the
required task. No matter how often I click, these menus stay there, and they even come up when clicking on the bare desktop.
It renders the mouse absolutely useless, as no work can be done with it.
The first 'Magic Mouse' had depleted batteries every few days, despite switching it off after use.
I was supplied a new Mouse, which does better battery-wise, but the problems are the same. I can't get a result by clicking on any link, due to
the pop-up menus, so both 'Magic Mice' are totally useless.
At present I am using the old USB mouse from my Mac Pro, and that works still o.k.
The problem are not the mice, but the software. The first 2 weeks after installation of OSX 10.7.5 the Magic Mouse worked though.
I have no idea as to what the reason may be.
Has anyone in the community ever experienced that particular problem. Any hint would be welcomed.
    Thank you!

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee
    Cheers, Gerd

  • My macbook pro(Lion 10.7.2) continually lost connection with the magic mouse, which charged well.

There is something wrong with my new macbook pro MD322(Lion 10.7.2). It continually lost connection with the magic mouse. I ensure that the mouse is charged well. I also looked up the matter on Web. It looks that the matter is familiar for many users.

I have a m-audio fast track pro that I'm having a similar problem when using it with my new Macbook Air. I found changing it to 16 bit will work.
I have a Apogee iMic that works fine so my guess is we will have to wait for Avid/M-Audio to update drivers.

  • Is there a large, clear desk pad suitable for use with the Magic Mouse?

My well-loved Magic Mouse will not track on my clear, 36" X 24" desk pad and, thus, I'm looking to replace it with  a clear desk pad at least as large, but suitable for use with the Magic Mouse.  Currently, I'm using an extra-large Wowpad for my mouse.  Would a clear, matte desk pad work as well as the Wowpad with my Magic Mouse, or must I continue to use the Wowpad and seperate desk pad?  All suggestions grartefully accepted!

This will be possible once improved sharing and collaboration are released. This will be soon by is not yet available. You will see several threads in the forums of customers requesting folder sharing. Folder sharing will be one part of it, but also there will be private sharing with specific individuals.
Currently you can only share individual files and the shared url is public.

  • I know that I am not the first one, but again troubles with the magic mouse

    Perhaps somebody can help me?
I still have troubles connecting my magic mouse with a Mac Pro (Mac OS 10.6.4). The same mouse works fine with my Macbook (again with 10.6.4). I uninstalled all the additional mouse software that I previously installed (Logitech) and installed the magic mouse software, but it is always only recognized as an Apple wireless mouse, no matter what I do.
    Any ideas what to do?

The window could be opening off screen.

  • Used the dot on old mouse to bring up Fandango and calendar. How do I do that with the Magic Mouse?

How do I bring up Fandango and the tiny calendar to my Desktop with my new Magic Mouse? The old mouse had a roller ball that I would press and they would spring from the right side of the screen.

That sounds like Dashboard.  Don't know of way to set a gesture for that but you could set a hot corner in System Preferences > Expose and Spaces > Expose tab.  Just set one of the corners to Dashboard and when you move the cursor to that corner dashboard will pop up.
Also the F4 key for newer keyboards and F12 for older keyboards will do the same thing.
You can also start the program Dashboard that appears in the dock.

  • TS3048 are there any known issues with the magic mouse? i believe mine is buggy and  has been crashing Logic

magic mouse behaves very erratically; seems buggy and tracks slow. will crash Logic when rubber-banding or moving events in piano roll edit windeo. very frustrating. have not been able to duplicate this crash using my old wired mouse (from my G4)
someone at a Mac store suggested i may have a"bad" mouse... what gives? any help would be appreciated. i will be happy to replace the mouse if that is the issue...robert

    Hello,
In answer to your question, I have not heard of any "known problems."
The device may, indeed, be faulty.  Try resetting the PRAM and SMC before you buy a new one.

  • Did the double click to open a file or folder go away with the Magic Mouse?

I see that you can set up the right or left "secondary click" and when you click o a folder or file you get the menu to open, etc. But I really perfer to just double click on a file or folder to open it. I see there is a "Double-Click" option at the top of the preferences, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I am on an iMac running 10.6.7
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Cindy Davis

Okay, I am officially embarrassed. I thought I had changed enough things around to see if I could get this to work. I had the “Double-Click’ in the preferences set to the far right to be “fast,” the same way I have “Tracking”and “Scrolling,” and those two work fine.  I decided to move the slider to the left a bit and it now works. So, if anyone else has this problem – here’s the solution!

  • Ugly issue with my Magic Mouse

I have a Magic Mouse that has work essentially flawlessly for quite a while.
I run VMware Fusion so I can run Windows XP and the Magic Mouse worked great there as well. Tonight I was trying something and I told VMware Fusion to connect the Apple Bluetooth USB Host Controller to Windows XP. Well, at this point my Magic Mouse connectivity stopped and man did my troubles begin.
I quickly told Vmware to disconnect the USB Host Controller from Windows but this hasn't fixed my new issues with the Magic Mouse. At this point my Magic Mouse is barely functional.
    The symptoms are this:
    - If I disconnect the mouse using the tool bar blue tooth indicator and then reconnect it, the blue tooth indicator says the mouse is connected but it doesn't work. I have to physically power down the mouse and back on before it work.
    - When it does kinda work, the mouse at times "jumps" across the screen so I have to be very careful how quickly I move it at times.
    - The multi-touch scroll feature no longer works. It worked in Windows XP as well ... not any more.
    - When I click on the bluetooth icon and try to bring up the Mouse Properties it takes QUITE a long time.
When I try to get the system to "discover" the mouse again, it can take quite a long time and the following shows up in the Console App:

    <snip>
I want my Magic Mouse back !!!!
    Any idea anyone ?
P.S. I'm sssssoooo freak'n mad to VMware right now.

Sounds to me like you have one of several issues going on there.
You may have a lot of interference in the same frequency as your bluetooth device.
Or - you may have a bad bluetooth transceiver in either your mouse or your computer.
Take the mouse to another computer with bluetooth on it and sync it to that - if it works fine then your computer or your environment is the culprit there ( um this assumes that you took your mouse to another location, say your friends house where the interference threshold is bound to be different than at your house), and you should then take your computer out of the house for the day, and see how the mouse works away from home.
If the mouse is bad - you will have issues if you take it to another location - replace it - check warranty
If you think is is your house / place you have your computer, that may contain an the interference that messes with your mouse:
Try turning everything off you can think of in your house / office, and see if it gets better. Also - a big one - make sure that your computer and mouse are not to close to any speakers / etc, as they do have a magnetic field that could cause a mess with bluetooth mice. (rare but it happens)
As you can see in your error message:
    10/7/10 2:32:59 AM kernel 0f5f3900AppleMultitouchHIDEventDriver::start entered
10/7/10 2:33:02 AM kernel BNBMouseDevicewaitForDatad8-30-62-38-b8-ff Timeout waiting for data
10/7/10 2:33:02 AM kernel BNBMouseDevicegetExtendedReport getReport returned error e00002d6
it made a connection - then timed out -
Also check the silly things - like are the batteries dead?
Last thing I can think of - is to delete the mouse all together, then re-discover it -
Um - after replacing the batteries of coursse - just to be SURE.
Then you can turn everything back on in vmware etc - you may also want to make sure that you have the latest version and additions etc installed.
    Good luck!

  • How to uninstall the magic mouse progam ?

Hello , happy new year !
I got just a little question, i am on leopard and after a test of the magic mouse i would like to remove the magic mouse program, do you know what files i have to removed and where ? thanks!
Cause now i got big trouble with my logitech mouse !!! help lol

Check /Library/Receipts/boms/ for the one associated with the magic mouse and run this command in the Terminal.app:
    *lsbom <path to bom file>*
Easiest way to get the path is to type in lsbom followed by a space followed by dragging the bom file into the Terminal window. Hit the return key and you'll get a listing of every installed file and its location.

  • What is the best battery for the magic mouse? I replace every month

What is the best batteries to use with the Magic Mouse? I am changing mine every month, I purchased the IMAC in April this year.

Good choice...even if that do not last as long as Apple claims (like any batteris DO ) you have a set charged and ready to go...no trip to the store for batteries at 2:00 AM.  And far be it for me to advocate doing thie, any rechargeable batteries of the same specs will work with the Apple charger...they don't have to be the shiney silver batteries

  • It is possible to connect the magic mouse, magic trackpad and the apple wireless keyboard at once on the same Bluetooth network on the new iMac?

I want to buy a new iMac but in my country the iMac just come with the magic mouse and I want the trackpad for the multitouch geastures. Can you help me with this question?

Yes you can have multiple Bluetooth devices connected simultaneously. I believe you have have up to 7 BT devices at one time.

  • Is it possible to tap-to-click on the Magic Mouse?

I know this is a simple question, but is it possible to set up tap-to-click on the Magic Mouse? I've opened up the mouse set-up and the mouse preferences with the Magic Mouse detected. There are options for swiping and right-clicking, and so on, but there's no option for tap-to-click. I don't like the full manual click on the Magic Mouse (the "throw" is way too long), so I'm hoping someone knows a solution.
    Thank you!

It's pretty safe. I used it for a while. It's also easy to uninstall.
Maybe Lion will provide something when it comes out this summer. Here's what's known at this point:
