WOL ZCM11sp3 satellite device to act as a WOL proxy

Hi!
I have read in the ZENworks Configuration Management - Best Practices Guide
"The Primary Server and the managed devices being awakened are on separate IP subnets. The
the router or switch is not configured to pass subnet broadcasts, but a Satellite Server exists on
the subnet. In this case, you can configure the satellite device to act as a WOL proxy to wake up
the devices on its subnet."
How can I configure the satellite server to act as a WOL proxy?
In the Novell Zenworks Controll Center I have already configure satellite for Authentication, Collection, Content, Imaging, and i set in the Management Zone settings-> Device Management -> Wake-on-Lan -> Wake-on-LAN Timeout Settings. I cannot find any wake on lan option in the stattelite server-> settings -> Device management.
I use sles11 for satellite server.
Thank you for your help.

I thought I cannot ping from satellite server cause of the routers whish are stands between the servers. I have one Primary server and 7 satellite server.
Thank you help.

Do you have port 7628 open from the primary to the satellites?

  • Why does the fan of my Satellite A500-19W acts weird?

I bought this computer one week ago. I have Windows 7 64 bit. When i surf the net or watch a movie or play music the fan starts for 2 minutes, than stops for 2 minutes than starts again. It's a cycle that never ends and the sound of it annoys me, making me think something is wrong. The computer is not hot other than the vent area. It can't be filled with dust since it's brand new. Is this normal? Should I be worried?

    Hi,
My satellite A500 also acts like this, even if I surf the Internet, watching movie and CPU shows only 5%. I don't play games at all. It's not because of dust because I clean it regularly, installed all drivers, bios updated. Mostly, I run it in Power Saver mode but still makes noise.
The only way to make it less noisy to run the fan at constant speed like 54%, I just load the CPU with some applications that keeps fan running almost everytime and no annoying noise noticable

  • Delete old satellite device objects

Having dusted off our old test environment we have a couple of satellites that are no longer with us.... One was physical and has been 're-tasked' the other was a VM that was 'tidied up'.
I inadvertently forgot about these prior to modelling our 11.3.1 update, so now they are considered 'older' and can't be re-configured (i.e. sat roles removed) to enable deletion...
Is it possible to force some zman commands or is there some other way of getting these out of the system?
    Cheers

  • Can I use a NI 6009 DAQ device to act as a switch to close a circuit?

Can I use (and how do I do it)a NI 6009 DAQ Device as a swith to close a ciruit?

You can't use the 6009 as a switch. You can use the DIO to control a switch (like a FET or transitor).  How you would do this really depends on your application.

  • ATV not showing in the iTunes device list? Check your HTTP proxy config

Seems like many people are having trouble getting their ATV to show up in the iTunes Devices list. Here's my situation, and the root cause:
    1. I have a small network at home consisting of one LAN with a number of computers, and a gateway router that provides DHCP, DNS and HTTP (web) proxy services
    2. I found that my ATV would display in the Devices list only when the ATV and at least one Mac were isolated from the rest of my network; when I connected them back to the rest of the LAN the ATV disappeared from the Devices list (in the simplest case this isolation was a crossover cable between the Mac and ATV)
    3. when connected to the whole LAN, the ATV could successfully contact the iTunes Store (trailers, etc) but would not show up in the Devices list
    4. I could ping the ATV from the Mac running iTunes every time (i.e. I did not have a basic connectivity problem; e.g. "ping appletv.local." always worked)
    5. I started with my ATV on v1.1, when I upgraded to 2.0 and turned on the the iTunes' "Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes" option ATV always appeared in the speaker list (i.e. even when it wasn't in the Devices list)
I had gone through the Apple troubleshooting guides, with no change.
After a lot of elimination I discovered that my problem was with my web proxy settings: my Macs were configured to use my gateway router for HTTP, and it seems that iTunes connects back to the Apple TV via HTTP - these requests were sent to the proxy and rejected (as they were for an address on the inside LAN; this is the way my proxy was configured).
I fixed the problem by using a PAC file specifying my LAN as "DIRECT" (e.g. below). An alternative would have been to configure my proxy to allow connections from the LAN back into the LAN (but be careful about allowing access from elsewhere, e.g. the Internet).
Here's my PAC file: my LAN is in the 10.0.0.0/8 address space, domain *.home.lan. (iTunes seems to contact the AppleTV via it's IP address, e.g. http://10.0.0.169:3689/ript/fp-setup?fairPlayID=4a5...):
    function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
    // simple hostname
    if (dnsDomainLevels(host) == 0) {return "DIRECT";}
// match Host against local domains (w/ optional :port)
    var dom = /(127\.\d.d+.d+|.local.?|10.d+.d+.d+|.home.lan.?)(:d)?/;
    if(dom.test(host)) { return "DIRECT"; }
// All other requests go through port 8080 of proxy
// should that fail to respond, go directly to the WWW:
    return "PROXY proxy.home.lan:8080; DIRECT";
The reason the ATV was successfully appearing in the Devices list when it and a Mac were isolated from the rest of the LAN was that the Mac was unable to reach the proxy, and falling back to the 'DIRECT' connection.
Note: if you don't have basic connectivity, e.g. if ping appletv.local. doesn't work, then the above is almost certainly not your problem.

    Hi There,
I have the exact same issue going on that this person described in this thread, but with the EXCEPTION in my case being that, after I have plugged my device into my laptop and uplugged it (about 10 consecutive times), my iTunes FINALLY recognizes my iPod Touch.
This is extremely frustrating to have to go through this scenerio each and every single time I want to synch and charge my Touch. Is there any way to correct it, so that the device would be recognized immediately when I first plug it in? It used to work this way (prior to the v.10 update, most likely).
    Thanks!

  • AppleTV3 will not act as Bonjour sleep proxy

Hi everyone - I'm one of these people who has a 'little bit of everything' in my local network, so its only as I'm tearing it down to move house that I'm starting to find a few things.     This one in particular relates to the Bonjour Sleep Proxy on the network - specifically that my AppleTV3s (I have 2 of them), neither will advertise a sleep proxy service (checked using 'dns-sd -B _sleep-proxy._udp local'), resulting in me being unable to wake sleeping machines (which do have 'wake for network' access enabled).
    Now I have an old TimeCapsule, and also an old AppleTV2 - which, when I plug them in both will advertise as sleep proxies on the local network - but based on my understanding from this article;
About Wake on Demand and Bonjour Sleep Proxy - Apple Support
Anything later than an ATV2 should also work (i.e. either of the ATV3's).  I've tried resetting to defaults, they are both running the latest firmware, and I have confirmed that it doesn't offer the service either over wifi or ethernet.  I'm getting rid of unnecessary hardware as I move, the ATV2 and TC being both surplus.
Anyone else come across this and have a solution for ATV3's as a sleep proxy? (other than leaving the ATV2 and old TimeCapsule installed, purely for this purpose)

    Hello blindjudge,
I was looking through our resources for information that may help you to troubleshoot the AppleTV not showing in the iTunes sidebar. Check out this article named: Troubleshooting Apple TV not recognized in iTunes found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1453.
    This section in particular:
    1. Restart iTunes (quit or exit and then reopen iTunes).
    2. Reconnect Apple TV to iTunes.
Choose iTunes > Preferences (Mac) or Edit > Preferences (Windows), click Apple TV, and make sure "Look for Apple TVs" is selected.
If Firewall is on in Mac OS X (in the Sharing pane of System Preferences), make sure iTunes Music Sharing is selected.
    Open iTunes on your computer.
Select the Apple TV icon with "Click to set up" next to it in the Devices list.
Enter the five-digit passcode from your TV screen.
    3. Reset. If you are still having trouble, you can try to reset your equipment by unplugging power cords for the following:
    Apple TV
    Your TV
Your wireless networking equipment or AirPort Base Station
Your router from the power outlet.
Wait thirty seconds and then plug everything back in again.4. Restart your computer.5. Rejoin the network (wireless) or restart your network router. If you have an AirPort Base Station, see the troubleshooting section of the setup guide for your model. If you have a third-party router, check the documentation that came with it.

  • OSB 11g acting as a JMS Proxy

I was hoping that someone can clear my understanding of OSB and how it interacts with JMS.
I created a JMS server, connection and topic in WLS. It works great. I am able to subscribe and publish from a java client and from an OSB business service.
Our use case is to use OSB as a "front end" to JMS if you will. We want JMS clients to be able to connect to OSB and subscribe to our JMS topic (durable). Is it possible to subscribe to a proxy service from a JMS client? How do I do it?
The next thing we are going to try to do is have an OSB process listen to our JMS topic and invoke a web service when a new message is published. Any guides on this?
    Thanks so much,
    Sam

We want JMS clients to be able to connect to OSB and subscribe to our JMS topic (durable). Is it possible to subscribe to a proxy service from a JMS client? How do I do it?I don't think subscribing to a proxy service is possible. Instead create a separate queue (or any other storage), for your client application and let OSB pull the message from source queue and pass it to target storage (may be another JMS queue)
The next thing we are going to try to do is have an OSB process listen to our JMS topic and invoke a web service when a new message is published. Any guides on this? This approach is quite similar to what I mentioned above. Just create a JMS proxy service to let it consume messages from topic and create a Business Service (WSDL based web-service) to invoke the target web-service. In the message flow of JMS proxy you may have transformation if required, and then route the message to business service which will eventually deliver the message to target web-service.

  • Use of CE/WCCP with Microsoft ISA server acting as an authentication proxy.

We have a design where all web users are authenticated against Active Directory by Microsofts ISA server proxy service prior to accessing web resources.
Is it possible to implement a CE behind the ISA server, and still have the proxy authenticate users credentials?
My concern is that WCCP will redirect traffic to the content engine first, if the content is not available, wil the content engine then forward to the proxy for authentication prior to the request going out to the web?

  • SRP527W not acting a DNS Server/Proxy

    Hi Guys
    We have a SRP527W with 1.1.24 firmware.
We have DHCP disabled and have assigned a IP address of 10.65.73.254 on the Interface Setup/Lan/VLAN Settings/data_lan.
When I configure a client to use 10.65.73.254 as its DNS server it cannot resolve hostnames eg (www.cisco.com).  Obviously I have 10.65.73.254 as the default gateway on the client and it can ping the external host via IP Address so it only appears to be the modems function as a DNS Server that is not working.
From the diagnostics ping I can put in www.cisco.com and it resolved and works, so the modem is correctly getting it's DNS Settings from the ISP
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Darren

    Hi Daniele,
Thanks for confirming what I was seeing.
I have done some further testing, it seems it is a bug introduced in 1.1.24, a modem with 1.1.23 does not seem to show the same problem, although it does take some time to resolved DNS addresses with the 1.1.23 release.
I got around the problem by renabled DHCP on vlan 1 (therefore removing the ip address on the vlan), went back to the quicksetup /lan put the 10.65.73.254 address on the lan, then went back to interface/lan/vlan and change it back to static and put the 10.65.73.254 address back.  Now it seems to be resolving.
So even though lan address seems to be disabled, it must still be working for DNS
    Cheers

  • Can a WOL Proxy be a SLES10 ZCM Satellite?

    Hello All,
I am struggling to get WOL to work accross multiple subnets using a WOL Proxy. I am running ZCM 10.3.1 on SLES 10, with SLES10 Satellites at each 'branch' location. I am aware that Satellites on Linux can't be used for device discovery and was wondering if some similar limitiation exists with Linux Sats also?
I have also installed the ZCM remote mangement proxy with no success as well.

Resolved this myself - Essentially although SLES10 is a fully supported OS to use as a ZCM Satellite device the Satellite code does not contain the required sections to act as a WOL proxy. If the ZCM Agent is installed in on a Windows Device then this can act as a WOL proxy.
I was fully aware that you cant perform a device discovery & deployment using Linux only Satellites due to the MS RPC requirements; but find it really odd that WOL doesnt work either especially given that Linux has a native WOL command that is part of the SLES distro.

  • Satellite C855D-S5106 - when lid is closed/reopened, backlight resumes, picture does not.

Win. 7 Ult. 64-bit, Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5106, all BIOS and display drivers updated... Things to note: This NOT an issue with sleep or hibernation, or waking up from such states, as it wakes up just fine. It is also not a BIOS or drivers issue. I have it set in Power Settings that closing the lid does nothing. Yet whenever I open the lid after it has been closed, the backlight comes back on, but the picture does not. To get the picture to return, I either have to put the laptop to sleep and then wake it back up again, or, more convieniently, by using a program called Hotkeycontrol to set a custom hotkey to turn the the display on and off, and this works every time. I had this problem a couple years ago (a recent Windows repair "corrected" this solution), and I vaguely remember the solution being to change something display or policy-related, like, change it so that the lid closing action action looks for a trigger related to volume or a sound device, to act as an inactive placeholder of sorts, instead of what it really tries to do, which causes the problem in the first place, as weird as that seems. Unfortunately, that's about all I can remember, as it's been so long since I had to do it. All the Googling I do just brings me to posts about changing power settings again, or updating various BIOS and display drivers (when it's not bringing me to questions about waking up from sleep or hibernation, that is), which I've already done, and I know not to be the solution in this instance. I'm trying to remember where I went to make the changes, but I'm blanking out completely, sadly. Here is a minute-long video of exactly what is happening to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alhg_zbmKZ4 If any of this sounds or looks at all (even remotely) familiar, the help would be very much appreciated.

This model shipped with Windows 8 and support.toshiba.com seems to have very limited Windows 7 driver support (e.g. no chipset drivers, display drivers, or power utilities.)
If you can't solve your issue and no one in the community can help, contact support to speak with a tech support agent at (800) 457-7777.

  • Multiple devices with the same GUID

    Hi,
According to the Zenworks Command line utilities reference https://www.novell.com/documentation...a/bb15p2z.html
There exists an option to register a device with a new GUID by doing the following...
    register (reg) [-g] [-k <key>] [-u <username> -p <password] <ZENworks Server addressort>
Registers the device in a Management Zone.
You can use the following options:
g - Lets you create a new device object with a new GUID and password for the device if you have multiple devices with the same GUID. When you register a device by using this switch, all the associations (policies and bundles) assigned to the original device object are removed. You cannot use this option to create a new GUID for a Primary Server or a Satellite device. The local user must have Local Administrator rights to use this option.
I would like to know if it is possible to have such a command line option for the agent installation. So built into the agent installer, a command line option to force the agent to register with a new GUID.
We are having CONTINUOUS problems with the above scenario. When we move devices from one computer lab to another and re-image the device, Zenworks keps trying to assign the same GUID to the device and this mixes up our Dynamic Workstation groups, which then affect the applicable policies to each device.
I would like to know if there is an option to tell the installer to stop remembering the GUID and simply register the device with a new guid on agent installation.
This way we can build that into the post imaging scripts which install the zenworks agent.

    Hi Craig,
OK, I've had a look at the ZCM Reconcile rules and run a few tests to see if it is possible to get the machines not to reconcile (use a new GUID after imaging).
As I have explained before, sometimes this result is desired in our case especially when we move machines around from lab to lab.
So far, no matter what configuration I use, I cannot get Zenworks to generate a new GUID for a device that is getting re-imaged (without doing so only after the fact by unregistering the machine and reregistering the machine via the zac und and zac reg -g).
We use dynamic workstation groups to assign policies and bundles to machines so reconciling the devices is not necessary most of the time. We need an option to tell the machine to register with a new GUID on installation of the agent. Surely such an option can be built into the agent installer?
The options in the ZCM config management "reconcile settings" I tested with are:
    Serial Number - Unticked/Unselected
    Mac Address - Unticked/Unselected
    Machine Name - Unticked/Unselected
    Enable Differentiation - Unticked/Unselected
    I then also tested:
    Serial Number - Unticked/Unselected
    Mac Address - Unticked/Unselected
    Machine Name - Ticked/Selected
    Enable Differentation - Ticked/Selected
    and also:
    Serial Number - Unticked/Unselected
    Mac Address - Unticked/Unselected
    Machine Name - Ticked/Selected
    Enable Differentation - Unticked/Unselected
With all three different configurations, I re-imaged the same machine, which renames the machine via the first post imaging installation script to match the DNS name. Thereafter the Zenworks agent gets installed, which then renames the machine back to what it was registered into the Zenworks database with on first installation.
We need a method of telling Zenworks NOT to reconcile when we want it to. It should not reconcile every time and thereby rename the machine netBIOS name.
Is there any way to achieve this?

The same thing could apply if bringing in new Hardware.
If a new computer were to replace an old computer but the name stayed the same, everything could be automatic depending on the rules setup.
It is all a matter of how you tell ZCM to reconcile devices.
The Help in the ZCC under these items should explain how it works so you can setup your rules to meet your use cases.

  • USB Mass Storage Device won't Eject/Unmount

My brother bought a Sanyo ICR-B180NX digital voice recorder last year to use with his iBook. It was working very well up until about August of 2005. At that point, the recorder would mount on the desktop, and he could get all the files off (it records direct to MP3 format rather than WMV, so he can edit his files very easily), but when it came time to eject it, the device icon would disappear and then immediately re-appear on the desktop. The display on the voice recorder remained static at the "Connect" screen.
I believe this happened in conjunction with some sort of OS update, as it was a "sudden" thing. We can't quite recall what happened between the times it worked and the time it stopped working.
I have tried the device on a PC, and it works the way it should, so I don't believe there's anything wrong with it.
Now, I know the system requirements on the website say that you must have Windows, but a statement from a support company (we returned it to the place where we got it, and they sent it out for repairs, and it came back with a letter) states that the device does act as a generic Mass Storage device, and thus may work with most systems.
All my other USB storage devices (ie. SanDisk 12-in-1 card reader, SanDisk Cruzer Titanium 2GB, iPod Photo), and FireWire devices (ie. WiebeTech TrayDock Extreme) work fine and unmount fine.
Does anyone know of any changes to the way Mass Storage devices are ejected in the current iteration of the OS? I haven't had a chance to test the device under an older OS, but will soon.
Alternately, if anyone has any suggestions regarding replacements (not really looking forward to that, given this recorder cost almost $300CAD), let me know. We need a device that can plug in via USB and transfer files to his iBook which he can edit together (he's a newspaper reporter in training, and needs to edit the interviews to take out such things like dead air, etc).
    Thanks!
    Mike Ma.

    Hi
+USB mass storage device. An error occurred during the installation of the device the data is invalid+
This typical error message appears if the installation of external USB devices failed.
Why? This is not easy to say
What you could do firstly is to clean your registry using the freeware software called CCleaner (Google for that).
Install it and clean your OS and the registry entries.
After cleaning access the device manager and remove all USB root hubs and all USB Host controllers from the device list and reboot the notebook.
New reboot should cause a new installation of USB drivers.
Finally try to connect and try to install your external USB devices again.

  • Any recourse for a failed device?

Help. I upgraded to a Droid RazR in 2012 which never worked. Twice, it died and wiped out all data.  I abandoned it to stop the "bleeding" & had my old Blackberry reactivated for phone service. Is there any recourse or credit for a failed device I'm still paying for that prevents an upgrade until 06/14?  I have no faith in a Motorola device after this debacle, so I don't want another Motorola.  I love my old Blackberry, but it is old, the battery is failing, and I don't want to pay to maintain an old device when I pay for -- but get no benefit from -- an "upgraded" device.  I am willing to try most smartphones, but not Motorola at this point, and I want a keyboard.  So far, I've been told by Verizon store reps that I have to wait for my next upgrade which I can't believe is really true.  Very frustrating.

Spirit of the law is not enforceable , but the letter of the law is.
Verizon Wireless sells devices to their customers, they manufacturer nothing. They provide a warranty replacement service for the makers of the devices. Act as agent so you the customer do not have to deal with all the different device makers.
Verizon wireless sells you a wireless connection to their talk and data network. That is all.
Samsung, Motorola, NEC, HTC, Pantech, and Apple make and warrant their products.
You as the consumer should research the devices prior to buying or replacing them. The net has tons of information out tgere for you. http://www.phonescoop.com is a nice place to look, and Cnet is another good site.
    Good Luck
