Won't accept serial number after migrations

I just bought a new imac and after migration, I can't launch Aperture 3. Says my serial number is not valid. I typed in my Aperture 2 and Aperture 3 upgrade serial numbers from the boxes. Still says not valid. Any tips on what to do? Thanks!

How did you migrate Aperture? Did you reinstall it or simply migrated it using Migration assistant? Pro Apps are best reinstalled using the installation media. You can reinstall directly the Aperture 3 upgrade and then update to the current version using Software update.
See this:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2005
Check, if all letters are typed correctly. Don't use the numerical keypad to enter the numbers and check if caps lock is accidentally enabled.
Enter all serial numbers for all previous versions, beginning from Aperture 1, if your Aperture 2 is an upgrade.
If you cannot get Aperture to accept your serial number, contact Apple: Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers

  • Aperture asks for original serial number after migration to new MAC

After migrating my software and files from my iMac to a new Mac Mini. Aperture asks for serial number first time I wanted to use it. Will not accept the serial number from either my first, Aperture 2 version of my Aperture 3 upgrade. I believe I never had version 1 - can't find amongst my software collection. Website support doesn't seem to allow me to display the software dtails I have registered with Apple over the years. How can I get this information?

Try Troubleshooting Professional Application Serial Numbers and if that doesn't help see Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers
Apple support has been pretty good in the past suplying new serial numbers with the bare minimun of documentation.
    good luck
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - reading your post it is not clear but if this version of 3 is an upgrade from 2 you will need both serial numbers. First enter the serial number from version 2 then the number from 3

  • Original serial number after migration

    Hi,
This is not a new issue on these forums - but I've been through other posts, and my question remains unanswered.
Ok, so I used Migration Assistant to move applications to my new Macbook Pro. And now Aperture 3 won't accept the serial number from my old Macbook Pro, because it's an 'upgrade serial number'.
But I don't have the old DVD of Aperture 3, and I can't find a receipt or any documentation - it was 2009, and I may have thrown much of that old stuff away.
So what can I do?  I am a legal owner of Aperture through to v3.x.x - is there a (hidden?) ID file on the old mac that I can move across?
I've looked in Library/Application Support/ProApps/ and trashed the ProAppsSystemID as one poster suggested. Didn't fix the problem.
I'm running Mavericks - on the old Macbook Pro, and on the new one.
I can supply a screenshot of Aperture 3 happily launched on my old Mac, with the 'About Aperture' box showing my upgrade serial number.
But other than that - how do I get Aperture working on my new Macbook Pro?  I can't really go to Apple with no receipt.
Is there some place in the Apple universe where my original copy would be registered online, when I first bought the software?
I've looked in the order status of the Apple Store, but I can only see orders going back 18 months.  I don't know if I bought Aperture 2 there or not.
    thanks,
    Charles

So what can I do?  I am a legal owner of Aperture through to v3.x.x - is there a (hidden?) ID file on the old mac that I can move across?
Charles, any IDFile - ProAppSystem ID is bound to the hardware of your old Mac, so you cannot copy these files over. And your Aperture 3 Upgrade serial is only valid in combination with the Aperture 2 serial.
But other than that - how do I get Aperture working on my new Macbook Pro?  I can't really go to Apple with no receipt.
Ask Apple for a replacement Seriel number:  Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers
You will need a proof of purchase, to be able to do this. Talk to the Store, you bought your new Mac from and show them your Aperure 3 upgrade serial.
Alternately - since Aperture 3 is running on your old Mac - is there any chance to upgrade the old mac to Mavericks and Aperture 3.5 as well? Mavericks needs Snowleopard 10.6.8 installed. The upgrade from Aperture 3.4.5 to 3.5 will turn your retail licence into an AppStore licence bound to your AppleID. If you succeed to upgrade your old Mac to Mavericks, and Aperture to 3.5., you will be able to install Aperture from the "Purchased" tab on the App Store on your new Mac, if you sign into the Store with the same AppleID.

  • Had CS4 on Power PC Mac (Non Intel) Now have new iMac and trying to install CS6 but won't accept serial number

Had CS4 on Power PC Mac (Non Intel) along with prior Photoshop versions. Now I have new iMac and trying to install CS6 but it won't accept my original serial number (Starts with PSW401, etc.).

I know what you are saying. I had purchased the CS5.5 upgrade, and a week later got the CS6 upgrade. I did this back in 2012. I had a old Mac Power PC which does not allow you to install CS5.5 or CS6 because it was not an intel processor. So even though I had the upgrades I never installed them. I waited until my old MAC died which it did this past weekend. And now that I have a new iMac I tried to install the new software. All of my past upgrades referenced my original Photoshop that was still resident on my old Mac. But since the install no longer has that reference because of the new computer, it will not accept any of my past serial numbers that it needs for the install.

  • CS4 Web Premium Acrobat won't accept serial number

Acrobat 9 keeps asking for a serial number and doesn't accept the CS4 serial number. I upgraded from CS3WP and all the other applications work fine. I hate to reinstall again because that means reinstalling CS3 and CS4... any ideas?
    MBP 15" (late 2007) 2.6Ghz, 4GB RAM running 10.5.5

Bob - it seems that Adobe support don't provide much help either.  After taking about half an hour to grasp the situation, the support rep I spoke to suggested wiping CS4, running the clean script, running Windows Installer Cleanup, and then reinstalling everything - a good eight hours work when we have better things to do.
The best method is to uninstall Acrobat using its own .msi file: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Setup Files\{some-random-string}\AcroPro.msi - rick-click in Windows Explorer, select uninstall, and reboot when its done.
Then use the CS4 disks to reinstall Acrobat (it will be down towards the bottom of the component list), run another CS4 application to update the registration data (which will happen automatically if the rest od CS4 is still activated) and then Acrobat will behave itself.
However, it has to be sad that this particular registration system is very counterproductive, as can be seen by searching this forum of online. Why not just provide the Acrobat key with the software and save customers all the hassle?

  • Aperture won't accept serial number on new iMac

Got a new iMac and copied over everything from the old G5 and the ONLY application that won't work is Aperture! It asks for the install product serial number - I enter it and it says it's invalid! I've done everything the 'installing professional products' troubleshooting thingy says and it still won't execute. It's frustrating when you have the original serial number and you're the only owner and it's your new machine and you can't get Apple software to work and you have jobs waiting to be done.
Any helpful suggestions besides buying Adobe products instead of Apple's?
    thx
    Greg

    Call Apple support, 1-800-SOS-APPL.
On a long term basis for heavy graphics apps users IMO the healthiest approach by far with new boxes is to do clean new installations of applications rather than "migrating."
As to switching to Adobe apps to make transfers easier, I have been using Adobe apps for many years, many upgrades (currently the Premium Design Suite of apps), and over the years I have almost always ended up with call(s) to Adobe Customer Support to make app upgrades work. Copy protection is a pain, Apple or Adobe.

  • IWork asking for my serial number after migration

I have recentlly migrated to a new MBP. I had bought previous versions of iWork, but I decided against having iWork preinstalled this time when buying the MBP.
Today I start up Keynote for the first time after the Migration. I realize that, even though I used the MIgration Assistant, my computer does not understand that I actually have bought these versions of iWork; iWork asks me to enter the serial number, or else to use it as a "trial version" for 30 days. I am now using it as a trial version, since I cannot retrieve the original serial number. Is there any way to retrieve the serial number (I am now on travels and there's no way for me to find the original DVD sleeves, provided I have those), or to fix this issue and let my computer know that, yes, I did pay for this copy of iWork already?
    Thanks.

If you bought the inBox version, there is a registration code printed on a small eight pages booklet.
If you bought a registration code, it was your duty to store it in a safe location.
In this case, you may ask Apple for a replicate of your code. You will be asked for an identifier. I hope that the # of the new machine will be OK but I'm afraid that you will be asked for the # of the old one.
If your are back home in less than 30 days, you will be able to retrieve your DVD or your registration code and everything will be OK.
At this time, there is no problem, the trial version behaves exactly like the registred version. And of course, it may be updated to revision 0.2.

  • Asked for serial number after migration to new computer

I did a migration to a new MacBook pro from my old iMac and now Aperture is asking me for the serial number.
I thought using the Apple migration would take care of the complete migration.
This is the only SW that I have noticed that have this issue. All other of my licensed SW is working just fine after the migration.
    Suggestions?
    / Christer

Enter the serial number. Not all software magically transfers serial numbers.

  • Aperture won't take serial number after transfer to new computer

I used the Migration Assistant to move from an old computer to a new one.  Now Aperture asks for a serial number and it won't take the one I have.  It's the orginal number that came with the software.

Pro Apps like Aperture don;' take to being installed that way. You'd be best to re-install it from the media you received it on (I'm assuming you didn't get it from the App Store as you mentioned a serial number).
If you don;' have the original media you can download the trial version and use the serial number you have to authorize it.

  • Won't accept serial number

Order #AD005692008AU: I cannot activate my licence. After the download, it won't open. I tried it by itself. Then I tried through a trial subscription. It won't let me licence the trial edition. It says my serial number is invalid. Help! I need to get it going to send a job application and I have been trying to launch it for three hours.

How can I start to write this ...? Wow, eventually, I succeeded to contact Adobe's service center.
But, ... Actually, I also considered the worst possibility and it was the worst. The staff of the
service center said politely but with flat voice, "The number is not correct at all. Perhaps, you
might get the product from wrong route, not official."
I send an e-mail to the distributor. That is all. I think my case would be nothing worth for
case studies for the others. I suppose someone can delete my messages, if necessary.
I should not write where I got the package from (at that time, I was not expected the worst
case, even though counting it). I am sorry for many things and thanks for all members.
You are very cheerful for me.
I also need to apologize to S. M. Salvaneschi about my interruption. I just want to show you
my sympathy as the one under the similar situation. I am afraid that I might failed it.

  • RohoHelp 7 - Won't accept Serial Number

    HI,
I've installed the trail version of RoboHelp 7.Our company
has now bought licenses for RoboHelp 7. When I enter the proper
Serial on the activation screen, the key is not accepted
(markedwith a red cross). On a machine without the trail, the
    installation + serial works 100%.
    What can I do?
    D.

    Hello dmostert,
I suspect that the issue here has already been partially
identified. You need to get a successful uninstall of the trial
version product prior to attempting to install the full retail
copy. Given that you have already partially uninstalled the trial,
    I would suggest the following:
    1) Download the trial version again (unless you still have
    the download available).
    2) Reinstall the trial version. It is possible that this
install will give a setup maintenance dialog. If this is the case,
simply uninstall and then skip to #4.
    3) Once the trial has successfully been reinstalled, you
should be able to uninstall from add/remove programs. If it is not
listed there, simply re-launch the trial installer and it should
    give you that option.
    4) Install your full retail version and enter your serial
    number.
    Other things to note:
    * The zeros and o's thing mention above is a common reason
    for this failure.
    * Fdisking the MBR is not likely to help in this particular
scenario as you still have many of the registry entries and files
left over from the trial install on your system, even after
deleting robo*. I would strongly advise against doing this.
    * If the above solution does not work for you, you can use
the CS3 clean script to fully remove this product. Yes, it will
work, even though its not a CS3 application. You will need to run
it at level 4 (you will need to key in 4 manually). Please note,
this should be the last used solution as it will remove *all* Adobe
    applications that you have installed.

    I hope this helps.

  • Application install damaged. Reinstall won't accept serial number. How can I reinstall?

I purchased Acrobat Pro 6 for Mac in 2004 and over the years, upgraded to 11.0, which I've used successfully until this morning. When I tried to open the app, I got a message saying it was damaged and needs to be reinstalled. I have not changed computers or OS since last week when it was working fine.
To correct the problem, I downloaded the program from the Adobe web site, but it won't accept my serial number to complete installation.

The options depend on your type of query, something which seems designed to frustrate. Adobe support do not answer "how to" (though they should help with troubleshooting, sure). Adobe must know that most people just click wildly rather than spending hours agonising over exactly the right description, and even if they did, the categories are poor.

  • Acrobat Pro reinstall won't accept serial number.

I have an iMac running Yosemite. I had to reinstall Adobe CS3 suite on a partition because I have some files that I need to keep the older software for, but when I open the program Acrobat Pro after the install, which went OK, it says my serial number is not valid. I also entered the serial number for the previous version of Acrobat Pro, and the serial number for CS2, but still get the same message. All the other programs opened OK and accepted the serial number, and I have reinstalled before on both Snow Leopard and Mavericks with no problem.  Any thoughts on the problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi rolandk43,
Are you still facing this issue.
Do you have separate serial number for Acrobat and CS3 suite?
Also attach the screen shot of your problem when you reply.

  • Finding Serial Number after migration to new laptop

    Hi there,
I have finally (and emotionally) retired my beloved G4 Powerbook for one of these new fangled MacBooks - very nice as I expected. To do this I used the migration tool as I always do and everything appeared hunky dory and exactly as it should be......until I fired up ARD. It is now prompting me for the serial number - this would of course be easy to get hold of if I had kept the box when I installed it about two years ago - however I didn't - my bad. I still have the Powerbook (luckily as I am a network administrator and kinda need ARD!) and was wondering of there was any way that anyone knew of to get the old serial number out of it so I can finally, properly retire her and run ARD on my new laptop. Any help gratefully appreciated !
    Cheers
    Si

Templeton is correct; there's no way to read the serial number off your existing computer since ARD keeps the number in an encrypted form. You might be able to get it to work by copying the com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist file in Library/Preferences to the same location on your new computer, but I haven't tried it so I'm not sure it will work. If not, the serial would have been on a small card that came in the package, so you'll need to find that. If you can't, you can try calling Apple and see if there's anything they can do for you, but it's doubtful.
    Good luck.
