Won't allow me to open new tabs

Firefox won't allow me to open new tabs anymore. When I click on the "open new tab" icon, nothing happens. How can I restore this feature to normal operation?

I'm having this problem, but I don't have the textarea cache add-on, nore the MozBar 2.3.
Now that I think about, I did just update an add-on (imtranslator), maybe that's what causing this to happen for me..
edit: yep, disabling it fixed the problem for me.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.

EDIT 2: GREASEMONKEY HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED with a workaround to fix the problem. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versions/ to install the update manually. I can press ctrl for a new tab but otherwise a new tab does not open. I actually need help regarding this new Synch which apparently will be in Firefox automatically in an upcoming version so I am asking how that will synch with people who use LastPass-of course because I use this very successfully and really am not eager to change the set up that I have in place at this time.
I have read through endless FAQ trying to find anyone else who has this question or concern but have found nothing. I've been working on this all day!!! I've tried everything I know of and can't get it to load either. Sounds like lots of people are having problems. Here is what I have so far...I have uninstalled EVERYTHING on my pc from apple and reinstalled itunes to no avail. I have tried all sorts of things I've read as fixes online. NOTHING has worked. Here is something interesting that i have noticed though. my main pc (which is the one i have always managed my itunes account with for years) is a 32 bit system running windows 7. Yesterday I installed itunes for the first time on my new netbook which is a 64 bit (windows 7) system and it works just fine. i have three other laptops (all window 7) in my household that are all 64 bit operating systems and ALL have updated to 10.5 and THEY ALL work fine. this is FOUR 64 bit systems ALL updated w/10.5 that work and ONE that is a 32 bit that will not. Can't get any help from apple. their suppot *****! I want to get someone on the **** phone or a live chat but cant. *** APPLE????? please let mw know if you find SOMETHING i can try next. I'm out of ideas and patience!

When trying to apply to jobs or respond to adds my firefox 4.0.1 just continuously opens new tabs until i am forced to manually shut down my pc , this was true in earlier versions of firefox also. I am forced to keep internet explorer and run their browser whenever their is a chance i may need to correspond and attach a resume. If i have an actual e-mail address from the employer i can avoid starting explorer by going to my e-mail inbox , but if i am given only a link to apply to i have to shutdown firefox and run explorer.
I just don't get it , firefox is brilliant and i do not care to run explorer at all , can anyone help me ??

They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:

Actually, it may be more to it. I just wasted good 7 hours on the issue: I transferred a big external drive from old WinXp system to my new W7 system, and faced the ownership mayhem ever since.
No matter what I did to the Volume Owner, Files Owner and attributes, recursive Directory Ownership jobs enduring tens of minutes at a time, nothing helped really.
Because you might have one more issue:
Use "Folder Options", either from Tools menu in Explorer, if menu shows, or via Control Panel.
Click on View tab, and find the box for "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)". Ignore that recommendation, uncheck.
Go now to the root directory of your troubled drive and you will see a hidden file "System Volume Information". This can be the "bad guy." Ensure that you have access to that file using the Properties / Security tab in a customary fashion! In my case that file was "padlocked", a small lock icon was placed over the folder icon to indicate that.
Only once I changed that, I was able to access the LR catalogs as a regular user. And only than LR was finally able to access existing previews and to display the grid image icons!
Ugrh.... Windows, the "personal computer system" is a mess, a labyrinth of convoluted intertwined dependencies, maybe created in competing departments and piled up atop of each other in an unseemly fashion. Compared to Unix and its derivatives it is a nightmare, which is a part of our lives for decades already.

Foxfire won't let me open a new tab. I have my setting set to open a new tab. I've clicked on it and nothing happens. I've right clicked and selected open new tab and nothing happens. When I go to Foxfire for help it will open a new tab for help. When I try to use this tab to browse, anything in the other window gets shut down.

1. In the Tools menu select Add-ons to open the add-ons manager.
2. In the Add-ons manager select the Extensions panel
3. In the list of Extensions click on Ask Toolbar, then click the Uninstall button
4. Restart Firefox and the Ask toolbar will be uninstalled.

Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

How can I put the "open new tab" button back to the right of the right most tab in FF 4?

It's very annoying to have to go up to the corner to click on the open new tab button when it used to be to the right of the right most tab. I have other buttons, like print up there and have to think about which one to click. What was wrong with where it was? It worked for me. At least tell me how, or allow me to change it back. It is one thing to make a product faster but allow the users to keep things in familiar places if they want. I've liked that option on Firefox with most things. I've been a Minefield then Shiretoko user for a number of years an I think I will stick with it for the foreseeable future.

Thanks. I don't know why it wouldn't just go back there when I tried putting it back? I didn't change anything, so I assumed the new "default" was over on the left. Glad it was a simple solution after all.

The "Use custom settings for history" setting allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting that setting doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings. 
Firefox shows the "Use custom settings for history" setting as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made. 
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".

It's strange. The problem apparently resolved itself after I ran TechTool on it. When I clicked on Firefox last night, I had no problem opening a window. Thanks for your help. (As to your previous post, the focus was on Firefox and neither the speed keys nor the menu bar would open a window or tab of allow me to enter a URL to open a window. Strange!)
