Won't boot to CMOS

a6518f won't boot to CMOS; all drives disconnected; added new power supply; removed motherboard battery and down-powered everything/battery back in -- still won't boot to CMOS

Hi,
Perhaps the new power supply is bad or too big.  What is the wattage size of the new power supply?
Did you try re-installing the old power supply?

  • Pc won't boot after cmos reset

Hi i was working on my m92p thinkcentre and everything worked properly, after i finished working i powered off my computer properly(start->shutdown).
The next day when i pressed the power button it booted but than showed a message saying that it couldn't find an operating system and rebooted and so on (infinite loop of this message). So my first idea was to reset the cmos, i went into the cmos menu by pressing f1 and weiredly it suggested resseting the cmos setting (It never did it before) and so i did but after resseting the cmos i rebooted the computer and the monitor stopped working (No signal).
What i did next was opening the computer case, pulling the cmos battery and putting it back in after a minute but it only made the problem worse.
Now every time i boot my computer nothing appears in the monitor and i hear 2 beeps and that's it, nothing happens next.
    What should i do??
    Thanks for the help

if the computer making a beeping sound, one of the memory sticks or both of them may have a loose connection. try one memory stick first then try to boot up the pc...if it works attach the seconed memory stick...if its making a beeping sound you have to reattach the memory stick.  another thing to consider is the memory sticks should be compatible to your computers specs.

  • Satellite m300 won't boot! please help!

    Hi,
I've got a bit of an issue here.. I have a Satellite m300.. a white one..
and it won't boot... I've had this very issue before but it turned out to be an external USB HDD that stopped it from booting up but now even with everything removed it still won't boot.
And it was fine until yesterday, it just gave up.. I am away from home for work so I have all the work stuff and unfortunately without my recovery cd, but my guess is that it won't even read it..
    So this is what happens..
    turn on..
all light come on.. including power and all the white lights around the keypad..
and then maybe 5 sedconds later caplock and numlock(?) green lights flash..
then it's a dead still.. no HDD activities or sound.. just dead quite..
the screen remains black blank through out..
it seems to get stuck here before reaching the post screen.
i thought the power button usually took more than just a push to turn off? it instantly swithces off with a single push of the power button..
I think this laptop is like on sleep or something and can't seem to wak up.. maybe?
    And it has vista.
Please help.. I have some important work files I need to recover at least before formatting..
and that has to wait till I get home which won't be for a month or so..
which also lets me take it back for warranty as well..
    any help appreciated!!!
    cheers,
    Min

Turn off all power incl. AC .
Disconnect all devices from motherboard : AGP/memory/drives/floppy/USB/PCI cards etc. take out the 20pin & 4pin PSU connectors and reset the motherboards
    cmos .
Assemble PSU connectors ,only one DIMM module and graphics card and turn it on and se if you get a post .
Just removed all components. I reset the CMOS. I then reconnected the 20pin and 4pin, 1 stick ram, and the video card (no ide devices, no mouse, keyboard cd drives) and the monitor doesn't show up. I also tried another monitor so it isn't the monitor.
Could it have a bad AGP port?
Any other suggestions? I am thouroughly stumped. Also the power and reset buttons don't work no matter what configuaration I put the front panel connectors in. The Power LED is lit up and it doesn't work and the reset light is off and it doesn't work.
Also noticed one of my fans connected to one of the two other fan pins on the motherboard isn't working.
    What a nightmare.

  • Satellite C660 won't boot to disc or USB

My Toshiba Satellite C660-DSC0QE, running BIOS version 1.80, won't boot into Windows any more - it just goes to the dreaded black screen with white cursor.
I've tried a Win 7 system recovery disc, a USB stick with Kaspersky recovery software on it, and even a full Win 7 installation disc, and it won't boot to any of them.
The boot order is set correctly, the devices (optical drive or USB port) do get read, but they never actually boot into them - there's either an obscure error message or it acts like they weren't there at all.
The obvious answer from these forums seems to be to turn off secure boot mode and to then switch the boot mode from UEFI to CSM. Easier said than done - those menu options don't exist at all in my BIOS/CMOS screens.
Finally, I don't see a way in the instructions to get a BIOS update to happen without being in Windows on the PC already - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9502M10000R01.htm I'm assuming BIOS version 2.00 would have these options.
    Any help gratefully accepted!

    Hi
I assume youve got an white, blinking cursor in the left upper corner.
    Is this correct?
Such symptoms appear in case the system cannot find a bootable device (HDD) or in case of memory (RAM module) problems.
First of all you said that you dont have UEFI / CSM boot mode in the BIOS settings.
So Im asking you what boot mode settings do appear in BIOS exactly?
Did you search for these settings in the right area?
Usually you should have in BIOS an area (tab) called security.
In most cases there you will find secure boot option but the Satellite C660 does not support such option because its too old.
But boot mode (UEFI /CSM) should be available in BIOS. Check the BIOS area System settings
Anyway, as I said above; it could be also an memory issue therefore I would recommend you to check if memory is OK.

  • Ms-6183 won't boot after storm

Following a recent thunderstorm, my ms-6183 system no longer boots.  After powering on, I get the normal single beep, fans, hard drives, etc start up, but screen stays blank (no signal message).  There is no HDD activity, and it won't boot from floppy or CD.  Power light is on.  It's like the BIOS is not being activated, but that single beep confuses me.  I thought that meant that the POST was successful.  I suspect the mainboard has blown, but is it likely to be something more straightforward. I have a surge protector in place for the power, but I think it's been hit through the broadband modem, because that is dead too.  Is it likely that the mainboard has been blown via the USB connection to the modem.  I've tried taking the USB card out but still no good.

    Hi john123
If you make a signature of your hardware (In PROFILE next to where you login) it will help to see what you have when answering questions.
Yes you do it to the board.. You have to take the side off.
Find your manual and have a read, or look it up on line  For best results OR
    Remove the powerlead.
You can clear the cmos by shorting 2-3pin while the system is off. Then return to 1-2 position. You will know if you have done it correctly because the clock and date will be wrong.
The 3pins that you are looking for should be somewhere near the battery. It will be 3pins in a row, 2 of them will be covered with a rectange shaped bit of plastic. ( it will be on pin 1-2 now, so pin 3 is the one that you can see)Make a note of its position and move it to cover 2-3 pin. leave to 20 seconds then put it back as it was.
If in any doubt take a digi photo of your boards layout before you start any work on it then if all else fails you know exactly where the plugs and leads went.
If you cannot find a manual, removing the battery will also do the same job. BUT it is best to reset with the jumper.
If you do not have a anti static wrist band touch the case to remove any static from yourself before touching any parts inside your pc.
    Good luck. Hope this helps.

  • MSI X99S XPOWER won't boot after a Windows 8.1 Update

Hi all, two days ago I was using my PC as normally and Windows needed to restart because of an update from Windows Update. It restarted and won't be able to boot again. I get a 04 debug code (Power on South Bridge Initialization) and I've tried clearing CMOS, without SSD/HDD... and there is no way.
I'm reading something about an Intel drivers update that can modify the firmware, do you know anything about it?
    Board: MSI X99S XPOWER
    Bios: Version 1.4
    VGA:   MATRIX GTX 780Ti
    PSU:   Enermax Platimax 850W
    Intel Core i7 5820K
    MEM: G.Skill 32GB in 4 sticks (8 GB each) @2400 MHz XMP
    HDD: OCZ Vertex 450 256GB
    COOLER: Akasa Venom Vodoo
    OC: 4 GHz 1.15v
    OS: Windows 8.1 x64
    Thanks

Windows is not corrupted, I've tried that SSD on another computer without problems and in my computer without HDD/SSD and won't boot anyway.
If I'm able to boot with the secondary BIOS, I'll recover the first one by the following steps:
    Quote
    BIOS recovery with AFUDOS command
When BIOS updating fails or causes the computer non-bootable, you can recover the
failed BIOS by the steps below.
    Preparation:
    1. Prepare a bootable USB flash drive.
    2. Download the latest BIOS file from the MSI official website at www.msi.com, and
    then decompress the file.
    3. Copy the AFUDE238.exe and the BIOS file to the bootable USB flash drive
    BIOS recovery steps:
    1. Power off the computer.
    2. Set the Multi-BIOS switch to the functional BIOS ROM.
    3. Insert the bootable USB flash drive you have made to the USB port.
    4. Boot the computer into the bootable USB flash drive.
    5. Set the Multi-BIOS switch to the failed BIOS ROM.
    6. Execute the below command to flash the BIOS:
    For example: AFUDE238 EXXXXIMS.XXX
    7. Restart the computer after the BIOS flashing is complete.
    Important
Do not use the Multi-BIOS switch when system is booting up.
But I have a doubt with the "Important" note because I need to change from safe BIOS to failed BIOS with the PC booted, right? So I'll use the Multi-BIOS switch with the system up...
    Thanks a lot

  • HELP, K8N won't boot into bios or anything. need to reset board to default

I got playing with the MB and tried HT 5x, it immediately shutoff and now won't let me into bios to reset it, so i'm waiting to hear from MSI. I tried clearing CMOS and everything, the damn thing boots on for 5 seconds and goes off. Screen stays black. Has to be turned on from PSU as power button at front won't do it.
    CPU: AMD64 3200+ (230FSBx11 = 2.5Ghz)
    MB: MSI K8N NEO
    MEM: OCZ 3700 Gold Dual Channel (2x256 in slots 1 & 2)
    VC: ATI 9800 Pro 450/380
    PSU: ANTEC True 550w
Its not heat related as I've been able to run lots of tests and my case is open right now.  It just won't boot at all, black screen and shuts itself off.  All I need to do is get into bios to change HT back to 4x, but I can't.  Any ideas to reset to default?

I tried having it unplugged for over 8hours while i was at work, tried taking the battery out, tried taking both memory out.  It starts up (screen stays off) and then shuts itself off after 5 seconds still.  I turn the power off, then back on at the PSU (the power button at the front won't turn it on or off) then it starts all over again.
My ABIT IC7 would reset to default it turned off and on 3 times in a row...why dosen't this board have something like that.  arg.  So anyone know how I can get this damn board to allow me into bios?

  • Won.t boot nada thing

HI all, i really hope someone out there can give me some light on why my 865pe won't boot  i have the newiest bios 1.9 yesterday i was on line with it and then something came on about saying there was a problem with my viv card (ati 9500)
then the computer froze..i went to reboot it and it stops. the d-bracket code says initializing vidio interface?..... i have changed memory, hard drive powwr supply you name it i change it and still no go will not boot past the 3 red and one green on the the d-bracket. Help :(

INTEL PENTIUM 4 2.6 ATI 9500 PRO VID CARD
    VANTEC 470 WATTER POWER SUPPLY
    MAXTOR 160 GIG SATA HDD

My MSI Neo2-FISR 865 board was working fine out of the box. Then a couple of days later I'm browsing online and my screen goes blank. A reboot results in a loud siren/klaxon type sound where the mobo keeps beeping and beeping (never heard a beep code like it before!)
I check all my connections, worried that the problem is my graphics card (ATI all-in-wonder 9700 pro) and still no luck.
I find these forums and read about the d-bracket and how the four LED's will light up and help you figure out your problem. I install it and find all four are lit RED, meaning there's a problem with my cpu.
I test my cpu in another system and it works JUST FINE! I test the cpu from that system on my MSI board, and it doesn't work. I try swapping my Corsair XMS on the MSI for Geil from my other system, no help.
After testing my components from the MSI system on my other system, there is nothing wrong with them. I can only conclude that since others have had the MSI board report a false problem with their CPU or whatnot, that there is something definetly wrong in the design of this board. After only a couple of days it dies on me! :(
I'm RMA'ing it back to newegg.com and getting an Intel 865PERL instead, at least Intel boards are known for their rock-solid stability. It's too bad, I really wanted to like this board. :(
Oh yeah, and clearing the CMOS didn't solve squat!

  • Problem with HP Media Centre M7670.UK-a - won't boot after installing an update to Apple Quicktime

I just installed the latest update to Apple Quicktime (after an update message appeared on the screen). When asked if I wanted to re-boot the PC now, I clicked on Yes.
Now the computer won't boot. The power light comes on, then the disk drive light flashes for a moment, then nothing else happens and the PC starts to beep. The beeps are repeating, with 2 short beeps and one long beep. What do the beeps mean?

Then a  clear CMOS would be the next logical troubleshooting step.
Here is  a link to your motherboard specifications.
The information on clearing CMOS is at the bottom of the document.
This is usually the last step before giving up on a motherboard.
The problem you are facing is motherboard hardware firmware related.

Hi -   I have the same board with the same processor, I have not problems rebooting after changing the bus speed. But I have had problems rebooting after adding in any card PCI or AGP. the system seems to have trouble clearing the Cmos, I would try clearing the CMOS with  the JBAT. it doesn’t always seem to work but I have had some luck, though I have also pulled out the battery a couple of time too..

  • System won't boot after increased FSB to 166

I have a K7n2 board with AMD 2100+.  The system was working fine until, i increased the FSB to 166.  Now when i turn on the system, no beep sound and no video at all.  There are power to all of the orther components.  I cleared the cmos, nothing happen when i powered up.  I have another system, with ECS and AMD 1800+.  I swapped the CPU between the two systems.  Placing the 1800+ in the K7n2, the system boot up fine.  But, the board recogninzing the CPU as AMD(tm) Athlon XP 1924 mhz.  It is supposed to be only 1.53 mhz.  The system run fine.  When placing the 2100+ back in, it won't boot.
When placing the 2100+ in the ECS board the computer boot up fine also. I eliminated the CPU problems.

A.) Download >>this<< bios archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the >>MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< .
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB from working bios B.
G.) Once it booted successfully switch to bios A without powering down or rebooting
H.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash bios A with version 1.7

its a custom build MSI .

That MB has CMOS battery that is like the one on most laptops, probably is the reason you didn't notice it.
PSU is TFX form factor. Seasonic just happens to have good variety of them and would be very good brand to use.
