Won't burn disk

Hi,
I have iDVD 6 and have made a small 11 minute movie in iMovie HD. It has a sound track, which is just the soundtrack from the digital tape. I added a few sound effects. I go to "share" in iMovie, and have it sent to iDVD...everything works great, it starts to burn the disk, then goes all the way through and gets hung up on "processing audio", and just won't do anything else. The disk never gets burned. I have tried restarting. I have tried starting with iDVD and not going through iMovie first. Nothing works. It hangs every time. What can I do...this is really frustrating!! Thanks.

...I let it set overnight and it got the job
done. Pretty goofy software, though, that takes that
long to encode an audio track. I think they need to
fix that.
... or perhaps you need a new, faster computer. Creating DVDs requires a lot of computer 'horsepower'!
Remember the saying: 'good, fast, cheap - you can have any TWO'.

Processor: AMD A4-3305M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.90 GHz

Hello, as a user with very little technical knowledge I need some help.
DVD disks will no longer burn. Ashampoo Burning Studio 2013 & similar programs all indicate successful completion of dvd burn but when disks are run afterwards, no data appears to be contained on them (apparently blank disks which click a lot then open in AutoPlay.)
I also tried burning a CD for audio with Windows Media Player but it stopped at 99% then began clicking & making strange noises resulting in an unreadable blank CD.
I've found nothing relevant previously posted here other than this; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us? which has been read & all the steps completed, so some assistance would be appreciated since to date 20 odd disks have already been wasted. A variety of different brands and types of writable discs - but all to no avail.
So... all suggested steps in link ablove completed.
I've cleaned the optical laser, updated drivers & ensured Microsoft Updates are current, uninstalled/reinstalled the DVD/CD-ROM drive, used Microsoft Fix it Solution (MicrosoftFixit.dvd.MATSKB.Run) which resulted in various fixes but didn't cure the problem. In the registry there were no upper and lower filters.
    Thanks, Tony

    Hello hpvirgin55,
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I understand you are unable to burn DVDs anymore. I will do my best to assist you with this issue!
In this situation, it is hard to determine whether the issue is due to faulty hardware or software. To truly determine this, a reinstall of the operating system will be required. For more information on how to do this, please reference this document: Performing an HP System Recovery
Please let me know your results. Thanks again for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • DVD Studio Pro won't burn disk

I have a DVD Studio Pro file that used to burn without a problem, but now it won't at all. I found all of the files necessary, but when I click the burn button, I get a warning:
The Build Location folder contains a VIDEO_TS folder(standard DVD content).  You must remove the VIDEO_TS folder from the Build Location in order to proceed with Build/Format of a HD DVD project.
I wouldn't know where to find this Build folder anyway. I am not sure what to do at this point.
    Can anyone shed some light?
    I have a 2010 2.66 GHz Macbook Pro Core i7
    Thanks!

Are you trying to build an HD DVD rather than a standard defintion DVD? I've never tried to build an HD DVD... does that format also use the VIDEO_TS structure?
A simple alternative to finding and removing the troublesome VIDEO_TS folder is to select a new location for the build -- an empty folder on your desktop, in your documents folder, wherever.
Or, if the contents and/or design of the disc hasn't changed since the last time you built it, find the current VIDEO_TS folder and use that to burn your disc rather than building it anew.

  • I-tunes 6.0.4 Won't burn disk for me

Hi, I appreciate your help very much.
After I installed 6.0.4 when I ask to burn a playlist and put in the CD-R as requested, it says "checking media" then it stops and the Apple logo appears. It will not start the burn process and does not give any error message.
I am using the same CD's as before the upgrade and they previously worked fine...so it is not the CD's.
    Thanks!

My newly installed burner works fine from i-tunes, except the burned disk won't work in my car CD player. The old burner's work just fine in the car. Please help.

Using my new G5 I have the same problem, which I did not know using my old G4 with an external LaCie burner. The CD-Changer in my car is not able to read audio-cds, also my cd-player in my home hifi-system. The only way to play these audio-cds is (strange...) to put them directly in the main tuner of my car (usually used for the navigation cd), not using the Changer.
Maybe the problem really depends on the quality of the CD-Rs. I have used CD-Rs from Sony (it´s a brand, I think?) and will try Verbatim.

  • DVD drive won't work but it will burn disk?

    imac 2.4Ghz - 10.5.8
For sometime now my DVD drive spits out Cd's/DVDs as soon as I put it in. Strange thing is, it will let me put blank media in and will allow me to burn disks.
It's getting really annoying now as can't do so many things I need to do.
I want to upgrade to Snow leopard but until this is sorted I can't. I know I can attach an external drive or replace it but I need to know that I've covered all areas before resorting to this.
Wondering if an upgrade caused this possibly?
Would be very grateful for any help anyone can give me?
    Many thanks

    Hello kfq
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    1. Check and clean those CDs and DVDs, SuperDrives are picky and don't like dirty, filmy, scratched, warped, out of balance media with labels on them!
    2. Check the Apple > System Preferences > CDs & DVDs to make sure that they were set correctly. To include toggling/re-setting them to something else and back, forcing the system to re-write the preferences.
    3. Download the 10.5.8 Combo Update from the following Apple Support page and install it over the top of the current 10.5.8 > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL866

  • DVD / CD's won't burn in finder

    SONY DVD RW DW-U10A
First: It doesn't acknowledge I've put a DVD in. Nothing. It keeps asking me to insert a disk.
Second: CD's won't burn in finder. They start for a couple of seconds and then they are rejected saying it's a "Power calibration area error 0x8002006D The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
    - I can't find anything on that error code from Apple or Sony. I assume it can't read the disc for some reason and try a (2) cleaning discs. That didn't work.
    - Disc utitilty says all my permissions are fine and I've got the disc space.
    - I try different brands of discs - nope again (Sony, Maxell, Verbitim).
    - Then I deleted the plist, rebooted. Not it either.
    - Followed that with Onyx, deleted plist & rebooted again. Now I have to turn the power off to get it to reject. I can't delete 'untitled CD.fpbf' folder either.
    - So then I try to burn a disc in ITunes and it works, but very slowly (4X).
    - I figure the drive is starting to give out and just before I buy a new one, I sign into a guest account and guess what? It burns perfectly from finder and fast.
Now, why would a guest account make a difference?
I have no idea what to try next.
    Thx for any suggestions.

    replying to mandelinjo
no problem. happens to a number of folks (especially people used to the earlier versions of iTunes that didn't have so many diagnostics options.)
okay ... i'd like you to check in with Dell to confirm precisely which kind of Dell you have. there's updates available for the 2400 and the 2400C, and the updates for one may not be compatible with the updates for another. i don't want you to be installing incompatible updates.
these are the two different download areas:
    Dimension 2400
    Dimension 2400C
you also appear to have three different drives showing up on the same bus address:
IDE\DiskWDCWD800BB-75CAA0_____________________16.06V16, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
IDE\CdRomHL-DT-STCD-ROM_GCR-8481B_______________1.06___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
IDE\CdRomHL-DT-STCD-RW_GCE-8483B________________B105___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [1,0]
SCSI\CdRomVO0524SEYM602D________2.0B, Bus Type SCSI, Bus Address [0,0]
... so it might be worth investigating with Dell whether or not that could be an issue on the PC. (they would be the authority on shifting bus addresses on your model of PC, if that is what is called for.)

  • Won't Burn. Error While Multiplexing. I've tried everything. Please help.

I've seen this topic all over the boards. I have iDVD6 and my project won't burn because, after a couple of hours of asset encoding et. al., I get a message saying that there were errors while multiplexing. Here's what it's not:
    1) It's not that I have chapter markers in bad places. I followed the rules. Then I eliminated all the chapter markers.
    2) It's not that the sound is Mpeg. It's properly formatted.
    3) It's not too long. I get the same problem with a 60 second version of the movie. And I have plenty of space on my hard drive.
Here's what I thought it was:
    1) The film was created with three cameras, at least one of which was using 12 bit sound and set on LP, two problems I've learned that iDVD doesn't like. However, to solve this problem I did the following:
    a) I created a full quality Quicktime Movie
    b) I imported that full quality Quicktime Movie into a new iMovie project.
    c) I exported the movie back onto my video camera, with the camera set for 16 bit sound, and LP.
    d) I opened a new iMovie project and imported the new, edited, film back onto my computer.
    e) But when I tried importing it into iDVD6 I got the exact same message about the multiplexing error.
It doesn't seem possible that I cannot use iDVD to burn my project. Any thoughts?
(I don't have toast, and I don't know any other editing programs. I want to use iDVD and iMovie. That's what I paid for and they should work. I assume that since this problem is all over the Forum boards that there may be a bug in the program. Has anyone heard about a patch?)
Thank you to all who resond. Much appreciated.

    Charlie,
Tell us about the computer you're using. See my specs below for guidance.
As John said, make a disk image and then burn the DVD.
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006
    2) It's not that the sound is Mpeg. It's properly formatted.
    What does "properly formatted" mean?
at least one of which was using 12 bit sound and set on LP, two problems I've learned that iDVD doesn't like.
As you've learned, that makes iDVD VERY unhappy.
    e) But when I tried importing it into iDVD6 I got the exact same message about the multiplexing error.
You got the multiplexing error when importing into iDVD??? Or do you mean when encoding/burning direct to a DVD-R (not DVD+R or any other format)?

  • OSX Lion: iDVD won't burn completely.

I use iDVD on Lion, and it's my first time using this software.  I love it so far, except it won't burn.  I've tried twice now to burn a DVD and it gets stuck on the same part each time.  It is after hitting burn, it processes the content for an hour or so and the progress bar is completely full and it ejects the disk.  It doesn't complete the burn though, it gets stuck on "Multiplexing and Burning...", the progress bar remains full, and the time remaining says "about one minute".  It doesn't go anywhere from here, even if I push the disc back in.
    What should I do?

I can't answer specifially to what your problem is, but I had the same problem. I tried many different kinds of DVD Rs from Radio Shack and nothing worked. Then I bought Apple's DVD -Rs and I it finally worked. I think it has something to do with the DVD R needing to work at various burn speeds. 1x 4x 8x etc. This should not be the case, Apple should explain why the burning is so finicky, but it di finally work for me.

  • Won't Burn a Playlist!

For some odd reason when I try to burn a playlist iTunes won't burn it. I get two errors one in the iTunes LCD window and a dialog box. Here are the links or images to what I am talking about.
    /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/170/1705916-1.jpg
    /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/170/1705916-2.jpg
By the two images you'll see the errors. The type of CD-RW I am using is a Memorex Ultra Speed CD-RW at 24x.
    iPod 5G 30GB   Windows XP

If this is a new problem that you've never experienced before, I would try turning off the mini store. Maybe it's trying to access the internet and it interupts the burn process. This is a wild guess, believe me! I don't have the mini store on in my playlists when I burn and I don't have problems.
Also, is there any problem with your CD-RW disk? Is it locked for some reason? Could you try a simple CD-R disk and see if it works?

  • Really hard to beleive but a new imac won't burn home movies on DVD?

Hi bite the bullet and bought a brand new imac (paid two times the price of a really nice PC) in hopes of owning a computer that would solve all my PC issues. Now that I have it at home I down loaded my family snow board trip from my camera and found out that it won't burn it to a DVD. What? Called tech support and yes it is true imac won't burn a DVD unless you buy ilife $49 and install it. Even the cheapest PC will burn a DVD this is really disappionting.I did see some free third party software and thought about trying it but I really hate to risk adding unauthorized software to my brand new computer. Is there hope on the way in the form of free update or is this what I get? Other than this I have enjoyed using it but this is really a major deficiency and a real disappointment.

I purchased the iLife 11 retail disk (I've seen it for as little as $25 at Amazon) because, in my opinion, there is no equivalent for iDVD's capabilities of adding pzazz to customizable menus/themes - taking your efforts from amateur to professional looking presentations.
And, it is somewhat disappointing since iMovie still has a link to send your movie to iDVD and the idea of being able to produce movies including making DVDs is now being "replaced" by trying to get you to post all your content online (in the cloud). For anyone concerned with their privacy, that is not an option; neither is it for people who may not even have a computer, but would love to be able to see the event they participated in on their TV.
I'd buy the iLife suite and also send feedback to Apple:

i have a 2008 imac with snow leopard.  i installed update 10.9.3 not realizing it's best for Maverick's users.  Now my Itunes 11.2.2 won't burn playlists to CD.   Anyone else with this problem?  CAn I uninstall the 10.9.3 update?  Also my HP scannerwill not save the displayed scanned document since this update!  it just saves gray.

If you have your old system backed up then erase the drive and restore your backup. If you don't have a backup then backup your entire Home folder. Erase the drive and install Snow Leopard after which you can restore your Home folder from the backup.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
    Or you can:
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.3 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.3 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Update (Combo).
