Won't capture

HELP!!!!
Machine Name: Power Mac G5
Machine Model: PowerMac7,3
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.1)
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 2.7 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 8 GB
Bus Speed: 1.35 GHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.2.4f1

Fire Wire from Sony DSR-25
Yesterday I was batch capturing for the first time in about a year and after capturing realized that I hadn't set my capture settings to the right location. I moved the captured files to the location that I wanted and reset my System Settings properly. After I did this I tried to recapture one of the clips that failed to capture the first time. A blank grey screen covered The Log and Capture Screen and I got an I/O error message. I tried other clips from different tapes and got the same result.
These symptoms appear in all projects:
Viewer and Canvas screens are green.
Random multi-colored blocks on video in Viewer.
No video will come into the timeline and audio is corrupt.
Grey screen overlays Log and Capture Screen when trying to capture, spinning ball stays on forever
and then I have to force quit FCP
Things I've tried:
Turned off computer, disconnected all peripherals, waited about 30 minutes
Trashed Prefs.
Reinstalled FCP
Tried playing captured files on QT player and it works fine. The original capture files are not corrupted.
Repaired Permissions on my Mac HD.
Tried to Repair Disk on my Maxtor but got "Repairing disk failed with error Could not unmount disk."
Could the problem be that my FCP application is on my Mac HD and all of my project files
including capture files are on my Maxtor HD?
I've had it this way for about a year and everything has worked all-right until now.
I tried copying FCP to the Maxtor but got "The alias "AEProfiling" cannot be copied to the destination,
perhaps because the destination does not support this type of alias."
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Go up to FCP 5.0.4 via software upgrade... but it may not help. As a side note, I'd also crossgrade to the universal version... it's a whole software cycle upgrade from where you are now, and it's a bargain. The deal is over after Dec 20 too so you need to do this right away... It's better software all round... bug fixes, and even some new features.
Canon cameras' TC recording is suspect if you ask me, and you may well have to dub the tape via firewire to the Sony deck from another DV camera or deck to laydown a decent TC track. If so, regenerate the timecode on the deck, don't slave it. Also I'd record DVCAM instead of the consumer tape format you've got from that camera. Better TC, and Better audio sync lock.
You might be able to get past this if you can live with bogus timecode on the clips.... use "non controllable device" as the device control, and then just use capture now after you start rolling the tape manually from the DSR. BUT it will not record the correct timecode, with all of those ramifications... i.e. no recapture getting the same timecode etc...

  • FCP runs on Intel Mac Mini, but won't capture to external drive, HELP!!

Installed FCP 5.1 on Mac Mini Core Duo and it runs fine. It will capture fine too, but only to the main harddrive. If I plug in a firewire harddrive using a firewire hub it won't capture, and give a "No Video" error in the Log and Capture window. I've used both popwered and unpowered firewire hubs, and even tried daisy chaining the camcorder off the harddrive. Nothing has worked. And there is no space on the main harddrive to capture to.
I know there is a lot of speculation about whether FCP would even run on a Mini, but it will. If only I could capture it would be a reat capturing station. Has anyone had success? Its pretty frustrating as I've used the Power PC Mac Mini for capturing in FCP 5.0 without any problems. Why would apple make the new Mini crapier?

Never use FW hubs when capturing video. They only lead to grief.
Some cameras, particularly Canons, refuse to share the FW bus with anything. Could this be your problem?
If so, there is little I can think of to do with a Mini (or an iMac for that matter) beyond capturing from a different deck/camera that is more social than the Canons and their brethren. You only get the one FW bus.
But first thing to try is to get rid of the hub. Hook your fw drive to the computer and your camera to the FW drive.
    Post back,

I would recommend you post your topic in the Final Cut Pro forum. However, since the Intel-based Mac mini is not supported, it may simply not work.

  • 5.1.2 Won't capture from DSR-11

I performed the software updates last night; should've checked the reviews on this one first. Today, FCP won't Capture Now from my DSR-11. The capture now screen comes up black with the apple logo. Underneath it says, "Waiting for timecode. Device must be in VTR mode when Device Control is enabled." I hit escape. The device is being controlled by FCP because I am able to rewind the tapes using the computer. As far as I can tell, the DSR-11 is in VTR mode. I tried switching the device control to firewire basic, but no change. I switched it to non-controllable device and that does work, but is a pain in the neck. Can I switch back to 5.1.1?

    Here's what I did:
The tape was partially used. I rewound a bit and got a time code of 15:45:01. I used that as the out point and typed in 100 as the in point. I rewound the tape and logged the clip offline. I then tried to batch capture the clip and received the following error:
Batch Capture: Timecode Error: Unable to located specified timecode. You may have specified a timecode with insufficient room for a pre/post roll operaation.
    What did I do wrong?
FYI, I did the quicktime fix suggested on another thread, which did nothing for me. What I did was trash old packages of QT from the library/receipts. Then I reinstalled QT.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 won't capture HDR-HC3 properly

In HDV capture mode it wants to assign an mp3 extension.
Doesn't capture in native M2t format.
Tried reinstalling. Haven't had this problem with previous versions.
    ver. 6.01

I've used numerous programs over the years so on the off chance I'm mistaken about whether Premiere Pro captures Sony HDV in m2t or mpeg, I'll take your word for it. However, you're not addressing the real problem which is that it won't capture my Sony HDR HC3 video, period, in any format. It wants to create a file with an mp3 extension and won't import the files it captures even if the extension has been changed to m2t, mpg, or mpeg. I may not be sure about the extension previous versions have captured in, but I'm 100% certain that it did capture it.

  • Camera won't capture credit card for Apple pay

When I attempt to use the little blue camera icon option in Apple Pay to capture a credit card and it's info, nothing happens. The camera won't capture a picture of my credit card. I hold my phone camera hovering very still over my credit card making it's sure it's within the guideline over and over and nothing happens.
I know my bank and my credit card support Apple Pay.

    Hi ...
Make sure your iPhone is updated to iOS 8.1
Tap Settings > General > Software Update
If it's already running 8.1, try a reset.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings then try again.

  • PD170 Won't Capture

Looks like I made a fatal mistake and bought a camera off of Ebay.
    Oh dear.
Not only does it have the audio humm problems early PD170's have, it won't capture in.
On the menu selection I notice the option is for A/V - DV OUT ON or OFF. It says nothing about DV IN.
    Do I have a PD170 with no DV-IN?
I can capture okay from the camera to Final Cut, but when I try to output - I get nothing. Just the standard blue screen on the PD170.
    What now?

Your subject line might get more traffic if you used the term record instead of capture. We generally use "capture" when going into the Macintosh.
You need to find a Sony forum. There are lots of 150/170 users here, true, but the wonk level is likely to be higher on a product-oriented forum--of which I know none.
Hope you get it fixed, hope it's a simple glitch.

  • Pixelated tape won't capture

I'm capturing a large project - about 40 tapes - and one of them is thoroughly pixelated and won't capture. It has bands of green and magenta along the left side and most of the tape has rippling pixels. The other tapes captured easily.
Clearly it's a problem with the tape. Does anyone have a thought on how to capture all or parts of a damaged tape?
    Thanks, SHC

If Johnny's suggestion doesn't work, you could also try playing it back through the camera into the deck, then bring in the signal from the deck. This might give you a technically clean video signal that FCP will accept, although you will still have the banding and pixelization. If you have a frame sync that would work even better, or any other piece of equipment that will act as a frame sync.
We are all assuming that this is critical footage you need for the project and can't be reshot so you are willing to compromise quality to keep this footage.

  • My  sony hdv 1080i mini dv camera won't capture

I've been trying to capture a video that I recorded with my SONY (HDV) HDR-FX1E camera from sony hdv 1080i mini dv but the camera would go on playing but it won't display any frame and it would show this error when i click stop stating that "recorder captured no frames". When its playing from the sony hdv 1080i mini dv camera it shows DV SP PAL on the lcd monitor.

As far as I know, HDV does not display during transfter from camcorder via Firewire

  • CS6 in Windows 8 won't capture video

Capture in CS6 won’t record VHS after loading Windows 8. Computer used to work, only change was upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8. The anomaly is that using the same settings, the capture works using CS5.5. The capture was a VHS tape through a Canopus converter (ADVC 300). Done many times before, the only change was Windows 8 instead of Windows 7. Weird that it works under same Windows 8 and conditions for CS5.5 but not for CS6. This indicates something different about CS6.
CS6 gives the message that the recorder in CS6 is not capturing any frames.
    Anyone having similar problems?

For John's information, I tried a Legacy Driver. Made no difference. When trying to record in CS6, I could see the video, but when trying to record, message received that no frames recorded. Nothing would happen. Left everything the same, same hookup, closed CS6, opened CS5.5 and recording happened. My guess is that Windows 8 may have changed a file in CS6 that prevents recording. I haven't tried recording to tape yet.

  • CS4 won't capture after updated to 4.2.1

I have had an interesting problem since upgrading to Premiere Pro CS4 v4.2.1. Whenever I try to open the capture window while the camera is attached and turned on, a blank square/rectangle appears on the screen and eventually if I leave it long enough Premiere crashes. If the camera is not attached then the capture window opens up fine but won't recognise the camera when I do connect it and turn it on.
The camera is a Panasonic NV-GS400. Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Whoops! Of course, should have included that relevent information.
    Operating System: Windows XP SP3
And the OS does recognise the camera.

  • PP CS4 won't capture HDV or import m2t files

    MacbookPro, OSX 10.6.4
I haven't done a video project for a couple of months, and everything was working then.
But now, I can't import HDV footage captured by OnLocation (.m2t) ("format not supported"), or capture it directly from my video camera (Sony HVR-A1U). There are also no sequence presets for HDV video.
When I try capturing from the camera, my MacbookPro's webcam shows in the previewer, although the controls in the capture window do control the camera (play, stop, rewind etc.). If I go into the capture Settings, no firewire sources are shown.
I can capture HDV from the camera using iMovie (to Quicktime format). In some respects, that is better, since it does HDV scene detection (unlike PP CS4), saving me a little work. But iMovie won't import m2t either so I'll have to find some other way to convert if for use by PP.
I tried reinstalling PP from disks but to no effect. Before I try full unininstall and reinstall , I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has ideas about what is going on with PP.

    >no sequence presets for HDV
I don't know if this applys to Mac or not, but I have seen messages saying that PPro will, for some unknown reason, sometimes revert to demo status... which only supports SD video, and nothing that requires any flavor of MPEG

  • Final Cut won't capture from the DVX100b? How do you remove 2323 pulldown?

I connected the DVX to Final Cut and loaded Log and Capture. When I click capture Now, the black final cut screen just hangs and it maintains saying "waiting for timecode ... must be in vtr mode" The camera is in VCR mode. I'm able to look through the tape from the Log and Capture screen but it just hangs when told to actually capture?
Also, I have footage in regular 24p mode, but I don't see an option to capture and remove 2323 pulldown, only 2332 which is only for 24pA?
    Thanks!

If you want to mix 24P and 60i in a timeline, DO NOT remove pulldown. 24P with a pulldown plays nicely with 60i. Straight 24fps won't go into a 60i timeline without smearing or adding a pulldown. 60i won't go into a 24fps timeline without mushing the frames together. Not pretty...

  • Captivate won't capture W7 Control Panel

I'm trying to make a tutorial about the Windows 7 Troubleshooter
Start Orb /Control Panel / Large Icons
It messes up the part where I click on Large Icons
and then Captivate won't correctly capture the mouse movement and click on the Troubleshooting icon.
    I'm using Captivate 3.
How can I resolve this problem.

    Hi there,
Do you have 64 bit version of win 7? The reason I am asking this is that Captivate 3 has this limitation for 64 bit OS.
However, Adobe Captivate 5 works just out-of-the box on 64 bit OS. You could try it for yourself.

  • Screenshot won't capture

    Good evening,
I just tried to capture a screenshot which has worked many times for me before.  I don't know why but it won't work anymore.  I tried Com shift 4 and com ctl 3.
It just isn't working anymore.  The only change I can think of since the last time it did work is installing firefox.
I read of similar problems and solutions but I don't have any external drive hooked up.  I am using a notebook w/nothing attached to it.
I can outline the area I want to capture but when I click enter the highlighting goes away w/o capture.
Pls tell me what I can do for this.  Why would something work one day and not the next?
    Thanks,
    Horsnaround

It isn't Command-Ctrl-3, but Command-Shift-3 and the screenshot should appear on the desktop.  Command-Shift-4 produces a cursor to use to block the material to be shot.
