Won't charge until the battery is dead

I own a 1 1/2 year old iPod touch 4th gen, and it will not charge until battery has completely died. Then, once it dies, I plug it in to a wall charger. It only chages until it has enough juice to power on, then I have about 5 minutes of life before it dies again. I have gotten it to be full battery, if I turn it off while it first starts charging, and leave it for the night. In the morning it is full battery.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, and it does not connect to other networks, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

MY iphone4 won't charge and the battery is now dead. It is not the charger, as I have two and they both charge my iPad. How can I fix my phone??

This sounds like it could be something to do with the pin connector in the problematic phone - or something internally at least.
I'm no expert but I do know that you should seek help from official Apple store. Do not be tempted to open this up yourself as it could invalidate any warranty you might have.
My advice is to take it to your nearest Apple shop. They can look at this and replace if within warranty?

My iphone 4 will not charge and the battery is dead how do i fix this?

If it's still under warranty, Apple will fix it, but you have to send it to them, so you won't have it for several weeks. If the warranty is expired, they'll still do it, but you'll have to pay for it. Last I heard, it costs $99/S&H.
That is the ultimate defect in the iPhone. No other cellphone has a battery that is not user-replaceable. I won't buy a phone that doesn't.

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My MacBook Air won't charge using the power cord and it's not the power cord that's malfunctioning. I went to Radio Shack and tried two new cords. The battery is now dead. Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, my battery has died as a result of not being able to charge with the power cord. Not sure what an SMC reset is but I have made an appointment to bring my laptop in to the Apple Store. Thank you for your response. Very much appreciated.
    Warm Regards,

  • My question is which better to use every time my iPad until the battery is 0% then charge it to 100% then use it again until it is 0% or i use it until the percentage is low then charge it until it is 70 - 80 %  then use it but not let it charge to 100%

    wuzradioman,
I was originally on your side in the discussion of batteries, however, after being contradicted by Meg St._Clair and others I took a leap of faith and took their advice with my Apple devices.  Much to my chagrin their advice has proven true.
Long story short I have not noticed any differences in my battery life by changing my charging habits to what is convienant over what is more in line with conventional battery myths.

  • What does that mean when your iPod only charges when you battery dies? (meaning: when my battery isn't dead it wont charge but when the battery is dead thats the only time it will charge)

  • New 160 Gb iPod won't charge (it is not  a dead battery!!!)

Aprox 3 months a go I bought a brand new 160 Gbytes Black iPod that I fully charged only 2 times. So, believe me, it is really new! Suddenly, I noticed that the battery meter was not moving while charging it (connected to power outlet), I tried using a JBL OnStage II docking to charge it and same behaviour, while using the speaker docking iPod works perfect, even connected to the power outlet. Tried to leve it charging all night, at the next morning was still "charging", but the battery meter wasn't indicating charge level, the small "lighting" icon was there. Once disconnected, the following message appears on screen: "Low Battery - Connect to Power Source".
I'm currently living outside the US even that I bought my iPod in Baltimore's Apple Store. And guess what....I lost the receipt!!! so warranty is not valid where I'm living right now!!! Apple's web site says my iPod is still covered by the limited warranty until october 2008.
Any idea what might be happening? Somebody told me that my battery could be disconnected!!
Thanks in advance for any idea about solving the problem!

This just happened to me today. My wife called from her iPhone to my iPhone. The phone started to vibrate and when I tried to answer it, the screen stayed dark and I could not get any reaction to home button pushing. After she gave up, the iPhone started to respond to my button pushing. Strange but it looks like some sort of problem.
    Stay well,
    DJ

  • Is it best to wait until the battery is almost dead to recharge?

Should I charge my Ipod touch regularly or wait until the battery is very low?

You can charge whenever you want, there's no harm.
