Won't Connect to Wireless

I just bought a Macbook on Friday and although it will connect when I plug in the Ethernet cord it won't connect to my home wireless network. it asks me for my WEP password & when I type it in it says "password invalid". I've tried creating a new network on the main computer and connecting the macbook to that network and it stills says "invalid password". I've run the network diagnostics and tried using the assistance numerous times and still no luck. HELP!!

Hi,
I have the same problem. I travel a lot and in some hotels, my Macbook can "see" the wireless access point. Although it does not need a password (WEP), the aiport utility asks for one ?! What should I type in?
I also have a Windows Mobile device from the office (shame!!). When I open up a Wifi connection from this unit, it can connect without any problem... strange behaviour.

  • Hp C4580 printer won't connect to wireless network, but see network is available.

I've sat through quite a few of the threads here with regard to photsmart C4580 printer not connecting to wireless network.
My issues started with a cartridge issue, which I resolved with a new cartridge, but only after trying out different solution offered on HP forum.
Now printer won't connect to my network which it has been connected to for over 2 years with no issues. The wireless network is working perfectly fine and I even printed out a HP photosmart C4500 series connectivity status and in this report printer can see the network I need to connect to.
I've tried downloading various programs from Scan doctor to complete install of all HP programs and even tried installing printer from Windows 7 "add a printer", but none can see this printer.
lastly I was hoping trying to locate IP address for printer which looks like it may help, but report says IP Address "not applicable".
I believe printer, wireless network and PC are working correctly, this there a way to switch printer to online so it can be seen.
    Help would be great.

  • After updating my iPod to 5.0.1 it won't connect to wireless networks

Anyone noticing this problem? I updated to 5.0.1 but now the iPod won't connect to the wireless network. It's not a network problem because my iPad is connected to the same network and I also used this network to update my iPod. It didn't have the problem until after the update.  Any ideas? Thanks

Mine works after the 5..0.1 update. Have you tried:
    - Resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Resetting network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Powering off and then back on your router.

  • Won't Connect to Wireless Network

So I've set up a wireless network in our apartment (using a Belkin Wireless G router) and our two other Macs (G5 iMac and 17" Powerbook) have no problem connecting to it. However, my flat-panel iMac, though it can connect to other wireless networks, won't connect to ours. It asks for the password, I enter it, and then it just tells me there was an error trying to connect to the network. Any thoughts? Thanks!
    flat-panel iMac, GL1, FCP3   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Nothing out of the ordinary.
The exact type may hold the key to the issue though. Ensure that all the devices in your wireless network are using the same type. Older devices may not support WPA but if possible you should use WPA throughout. If you are using WEP then you should set a password that is 13digits long for 128bit encryption and 5 digits long for 40bit encryption.<p<p>> Yeah, I just finished updating everything.
Have you lost the ability to connect since the updates? And if so what day/date did you upgrade?
    cheers

  • G4 (MDD) with AirPort Can't See/Won't Connect to Wireless Networks

Hi all. I've seen topics/threads that get close to my question/problem, but not quite.
    I inherited a PowerMac G4 (MDD)/Dual 1 GHz/1.5 GB DDR SDRAM/running 10.3.9.
I purchased a used original AirPort card from eBay, opened up the machine, and plugged it in. When I went to update the software (from a CD), my machine told me that it was up to date (though one HD is running OS9 and one running OSX -- so the software wouldn't install because the HD running OSX said it was up-to-date and the HD running 9 said it was impossible). The machine recognizes the card/shows it gray in the toolbar/says it has Firmware Version 8.70 in the System Profile.
My problem is that the AirPort can't see any wireless networks 99% of the time, even though 3 (including mine) are in range all the time. I've seen my network only flicker into possibility a few times, and even though I've disabled all security measures on the wireless router (Linksys Wireless-G, Model WRT54G), it simply won't connect. One time in 3 hours it momentarily looked like it was going to connect, then said "out of range," then disappeared completely. It has seen 0 wireless networks for the past hour.
I've read everything far and wide trying to solve this issue and am totally stuck. At first I thought I needed an antenna for the AirPort, but this is an internal card, so that doesn't seem right. I know the AirPort card (and not Extreme) is right because a) I don't have a FW800 port and b) the machine recognizes this card. Finally, I thought it may have had to do with the WPA security on the Linksys, but even with security disabled...nothing.
I'm feeling very frustrated. Any advice?
    Thank you very much.

Thanks, Tom. I did as you suggested, and the Max Signal under the Log is showing a red 12, which is terrible, yes? What, exactly, does this tell me? That this is simply a case of old technology (AirPort b) struggling to communicate with new technology (Linksys g) over a medium distance (Linksys is in next room, through wall)? If plugging straight into the ethernet were an option, I'd just do it. But I can't get my G4 onto the Internet without running cords down the hallway and through my TV room, which is an obvious eyesore.
Is there a chance this AirPort card is only partly functional and I should return it? Or do I need to accept the fact that this G4 needs to either be moved closer to the Linksys router or be plugged in directly?
    Thank you.

  • Apple TV won't connect to wireless

I purchased my Apple TV in April and it worked great until about a month ago. It suddenly didn't appear in iTunes and had stopped syncing. When I checked network connections it wasn't connecting to my wireless network (which is Airport Express). I've tried restarting wireless network... resetting network, doing diagnostic on Apple TV, even doing a factory reset on the Apple TV..... nothing works... it won't connect to my home network. It doesn't even show up in the networks list... when type in the network name... it just reads "error connecting to network". Nothing changed from when it was working fine? I'm confused? is the Apple TV not working or is the Airport not working? All of my laptops in the house are not having a problem.

I'm not sure how much hassle it will be for you, but the fact that you say it sees the network sometimes tends to tell me it's not dead, I believe (but not one other member of this forum has supported or observed this) that some  wifi equipment has problems forgetting old settings. Would you be able to restore the tv and the express a few times consecutively and start your network again using a new name for your network and a new password etc (try not to re-use any settings from before) also between restores disconnect every cable to each device and leave for 30 seconds.
As I say there is no particular support for what is effectively a theory and if you feel I am just wasting your time, I would understand.
As your user name suggests you are in the US, I wouldn't pretend to understand the return policy over there, to be honest I don't understand the return policy over here, I've found you can phone  one day and get some guy who insists something has to be repaired and the next day get someone who sends a courier around the day after to collect the item and to deliver you a new one at the same time..

  • Macbook Pro won't connect to wireless printer anymore suddenly

Suddenly my Macbook Pro won't connect to my HP Photosmart B210e Printer.  I have tried adding it via IP address, it worked but I can't print anything.  It says the printer is busy and idle?  I updated the software and drivers.  All other computers and devices in my home connect just fine.  It is connected to our wireless router as is my laptop.
I have searched online and done all the solutions I could find and nothing is working.  VERY frustrated as I have to log onto my Dell to print anything.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Kim

"It says the printer is busy and idle?"
System Preferences>print and Scan. What is the staus of the printer? Green light for idle or yellow light for in busy? Have you tried power down the printer and paowering it back up?

  • IMac G3 won't connect to wireless network

We recently bought an Airport wireless card and adaptor, we fitted it into the G3 today and it won't connect to the network. After we type in the password this message appears " There was an error joining the AirPort network", when we go into system profile under "Wireless Card Locale". It says USA, we live in the UK could this be a problem? We bought the card via eBay from china.
And if it helps the G3 is running OS X 10.3.2, we have an Airport Express base station and our other macs connect to it ok.

Yes, it very well could. Different regions/countries have different rules regarding which radio frequencies are available for unlicensed use, such as wireless products. If you have a card for the US, and you're in the UK, they very well could be trying to use different frequency ranges and thus unable to connect.
Of course another, simpler, possibility is that you selected the wrong kind of wireless encryption. You should be using at least WPA, WEP is about the same as no encryption at all. I don't recall if 10.3 was ever updated to support WPA2 or not. If it does, once you get things all sorted out, if your router also supports WPA2, that'd be your best bet.
For the future, you might want to avoid buying things off ebay like that. I know that it's not exactly like you can just pop round to the nearest electronics store and pick up one of these things, but you're going to have to accept the possibility that you were sold the wrong part and that money is now gone. You're probably lucky the part wasn't some cheap counterfeit knockoff that caused some kind of internal damage when connected. There's a lot of enterprising ebay sellers in China who like to go dumpster diving at big manufacturing plants. Finding parts that were discarded for failing QA testing, and selling them on ebay to people who only care about finding the lowest possible price.

  • MacBook Pro won't connect to wireless network unless tilted

Hi! My MacBook Pro occasionally has trouble connecting to the wireless network in my house, but that can usually be solved by turning Airport off and then back on. Today (very suddenly), Airport disconnected from my network and could not find it again. I tried restarting my MacBook Pro and router multiple times. Finally it was able to connect, but here's the thing: it only works if my MacBook is tilted at an angle. If I try to open a webpage while the MacBook is sitting normally on a flat surface, the page won't load. If I lift one side of the MacBook so that it's tilted at a 45 degree angle, the page will load. Once it's level again the internet will stop working and the Airport signal bars will turn gray.
I've never come across a problem like this before. Everything was running fine this morning. It is so strange and I have no idea what to do! Help, please? Is my Airport dying? Is something loose inside? My MacBook Pro is about 4 years old.

Delete your network from system preferences, network, advanced.
re enter your network you wish to join
If that fails then do a PRAM reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    and a SMC reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Maybe something to do with the motion sensor
if so try resetting the SMC

  • Won't connect to wireless network but indicates full signal strength

I just bought a new macbook pro last week and connected to my home's wireless internet immediately with no problems. Until this morning it was working fine. When i opened my computer and it woke from sleep it would no longer provide me with internet access. Both skype and safari won't work but my icon indicates that i have full signal strength and that i am in fact connected to my home network. I ran a diagnostic test and the result was that it "appeared to be connected" yet i still am not able to access the internet. When i plug an ethernet cable into my mac the internet works and all the other computers in the house (all non-macs) have wireless internet access.
    Thanks for any help!

When i opened my computer and *it woke from sleep* it would no longer provide me with internet access.
Sometimes a restart will correct network problems since you are getting the full bars and the diagnostic test confirms +"appeared to be connected".+

  • IMac won't connect to wireless internet

My 4 year old iMac intermittently connects to my wireless Internet. iPad has no trouble.I'm currently using version 10.5.8. My airport fan icon is black, but it just my home page won't open. I'm using safari browser. What settings can I check?

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

  • Officejet Pro 8600 won't connect to wireless with Wireless extender connected

I am trying to get an Officejet Pro 8600 to connect to a wireless network, but it will not connect when my wireless network extender is connected. Once I disconnect the extender, it connects fine. Here is the setup. I have a Netgear wireless cable gateway CG3000D with a Amped Wireless Dual Band Router (R20000G) connected to the Netgear via ethernet cable. The Amped router is setup as a wireless extender, the Netgear and Amped share the same SSID. All my other devices work just fine connecting, laptops, cell phones, and IPads. When the Officejet 8600 tries to connect with the Amped connected, it tells me invalid password. Once I disconnect the Amped, the Officejet connects just fine. Any ideas how to get the Officejet to connect to the wireless with the Amped extender connected? Thanks

Are you using the same passkey on the extended network? (It is best to)
If so I would try using different SSIDs.  The printer will try to connect to the network with the better signal which might change depending on wireless interference.  There is no way to force the printer to connect to one network over another if the SSIDs are the same.
One other possibility.  Is the passkey the same for both 2.4 and 5ghz on the Amped Dual Band router?  Most routers can be set up to have different passkeys for each band.  The printer is a 2.5ghz device and will need that password the same on both the Amped and Netgear routers.
Please let me know your results.  Extending networks is becomming more common.  Understanding how to work with them will help everyone.

  • Won't connect to wireless when other cpu's are connected

I apologize if this has been answered, I did look through and didn't find an answer to my issue.. Normally I have no problems connecting my MacBook with 10.4.1 to wireless internet, however, when other users in my household are on it, it will not let me connect. I have tried restarting the router, even when someone opens their laptop it will connect them and boot me off, nobody else has this problem except me. The password on the router is WPA Personal. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the router or with my computer. Thank you in advance for any help as this has been very frustrating for me!

    Hi Carina,
The very first thing you need to do is get off of OS 10.4.1. (I'm assuming that's not a typo.) The current release of Tiger (OS 10.4 is 10.4.11). Run Software Update and get the latest version of Tiger, then see if your problem continues.

  • HP 3510 all-in-one won't connect to wireless - MAC filter

I'm trying to set up my HP Deskjet 3510 e-all-in-one, but every time it tries to connect to my wireless, it fails and gives me an error saying it may be due to the MAC filtering on my router.. but there is no MAC filtering on my router! I even added it to the approved devices just in case. If I try to just set it up via USB, the software doesn't always respond to the fact that I've plugged my printer into my laptop. I'm on Windows Vista. TRIED the solution of unplugging everything, restarting everything, turning things off and on again, etc., the error never changes but I have seen for myself and had the internet company confirm that there isn't any MAC filtering on my router.

    Hi,
Please enter your wireless router configuration and check what security type is configured.
May it set as WEP security?
If so, ensure the authentication type is set as Open or Auto, then try connecting the printer again.. HP printers does not support the Shared Authentication type..
Otherwise please clarify what security type is configured.

  • Power Mac G3 Pismo with Airport wireless card in Mac OS X 10.4 won't connect to wireless network  with  newest Airport Extreme Base Station set at WPA Personal/WPA 2 Personal encryption.

My Power Book G3 Pismo with an Airport wireless card  running Mac OS X 10.4.11 will not connect to my new Airport
Extreme Base Station using WPA Personal/WPA 2 Person encryption.  The Airport firmware is version 9.52.  From
posts I've read online at different places indicates the Airport card should support the WPA encryption.  Perhaps the problem
is the Base Station is using a combination setting and the fault is in the base station?
    Thanks for any suggestions

Perhaps an inexpensive usb wireless adapter would work as well?
This is probably the simplest way to get the G3 connected to the wireless network.
I'll have to read up on getting an express and using it as a wireless bridge as I am unfamiliar with the concept.
The new AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal.
A new AirPort Express could be located close to the G3. The Express will pick up the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme, then provide an Ethernet connection to the G3 though a short Ethernet cable.
This can work very well......IF.....you keep the G3 at a fixed location, since it will always be connected to the AriPort Express using an Ethernet cable.
I do have an old Linksys Wireless G router.  I wonder if that would work?
In theory, yes. But it would have to use much older WEP "security", which is easily cracked in minutes using free tools available on the Internet. So, anyone who really wanted to get on the network could do so. It's an option, but not a very good one.
