WON'T COPY TO IPOD

For the first time (I've had iTunes and an iPod for a long time), I'm getting an error message when I sync my iPod that says that "[s]ome of the items in the iTunes library...were not copied to [my iPod] because you are not authorized to play them on this computer."
Umm, what the f---? Why is this happening?
There are 103 songs that won't copy, and at first glance it appears that the first 103 songs I ever purchased are the very 103 that won't copy onto my iPod.
Anyone have any ideas about what is going on here? I am reasonably sure that I haven't copied all 103 of these songs to disc 5 times, or whatever the limit is.
Thanks in advance to all who answer.
TW

I think the most probable cause for this is that your iTunes is not authorized to play songs that is brought from the store. If this is the case go to Store>Sign In and login with your Apple ID and password. Then it should be able to sync. If you want to check how many computer is authorized with the account of the songs that won't sync to your iPod, you have to go to the iTunes Store -- sign in first. Click on your Apple ID, there is a popup asking for your password. After you done that, there is a row called "Computer Authorizations." If there are 5 computer that might mean that you can't authorize anymore computers and it might be the reason why you can't sync. I am not sure how you can deauthorize all the computers now after 7.0.1. There is a way on 6.0.5 but it is gone.

your initial reply, which at first seemed promising, has now taken me to a whole other level of difficulty. allow me to elaborate.
    1) i have attempted to play one of the aforementioned purchased songs in my itunes library, per your advice (not on my ipod, but on my imac). upon doing so, i get the error message:
"This computer is not authorized to play "______." Would you like to authorize it? The message box displays the Apple ID and asks me for the password.
    2) all well and fine, except that the email address which displays in the message box as my Apple ID is old and obsolete--way obsolete. So of course, if I enter my present password, it will not match this old ID.
    3) i attempted to change this old ID to my present ID. when I did so, my present ID, which DOES match my present password (and, thus, which i DON'T want to change), showed up as the ID to change.
    4) what do i do? at this point i'm stuck.

  • Downloaded Star Trek into Darkness but won't copy to iPod

I downloaded the digital copy of the movie, and when I try to copy to iPod it says, "'Star Trek into Darkness' was not copied to the iPod 'Erik' because it cannot be played on this iPod".
What is up with that? I have the 120GB iPod Classic. Does anyone have any ideas as to why iTunes is being mean right now?

    Hello MissingMyMind,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
I would download an SD version of the movie, and try to sync that. I am assuming that the version you have is in HD.
From: iTunes 10 for Mac: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH1706
In iTunes, click iTunes Store (below Store).
Click the Purchased link in the top-right of the Store home page (below Quick Links).
In the page that appears, select a category.iTunes shows you which of your purchases are available for download. You can view all of your past purchases, or just the ones not currently in your iTunes library. Items already in your library aren’t available for download. If you select Music, you can view your purchases by song, artist, or album. If you’re using Album view, click an album to see which songs on it are available for downloading. To search for an item, type its name or a keyword in the search field, and then press the Return key to view your search results.
To download an item, click the Download button to the right of the item.To download all available items, click Download All.
When you go to download the movie in the Movies tab of your purchases, be sure to uncheck the Download HD Version When Available check box to get the SD version, and be syncable to your iPod Classic.
    All the very best,

  • Some songs won't copy to Ipod from Itunes

    Hello all,
A bunch of songs won't transfer to my ipod and I can't figure out why...
Exact message: "Some of the items in the Itunes Library, including "..." were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod" Then it says there are "101 problems - see below"
I counted the tracks, there are actually 63. (My library has about 6000 tunes.)
I've recently upgraded to buy the new DRM free songs, but I don't see the connection.
I checked the Kind, Sample Rate, and Bit rate and there doesn't seem to be any differences between these and others.
I converted the songs to mp3-192s, trashed the originals, still won't transfer.
I still have 10GB of space left on my iPod, so it's not a space issue.
Most are songs I purchased in the I-tunes store.
The only thing these songs have in common is that they all were loaded in the same session.
They were on my iPod before I upgraded to 7.2
    I'm on a G4 laptop, OS 10.4.9 1.67 PowerPC.
    Running I-Tunes 7.2
    Video iPod version 1.2.1

I was shocked to see your post. I was just about to paste this new thread:
After updating iPod software to 1.1.3 for my nano 8GB, there are 101 songs that iTunes refuses to sync to the nano, saying:
Some of the items in the iTunes library, including "Great Escape", were not copied to the iPod "My iPod" because they cannot be played on this iPod.
When I use the disclosure triangle to see details, all songs give the same info, for example:
"Multiply" was not copied because the file type is not supported by the iPod "My iPod".
But these are all just MP3 files. Some, if not all, of them were purchased in the iTunes store, then burned to a standard CD (aiff?), then later reloaded. They've all been played before on this iPod. I still have the original protected song files filed away, and I could pull them out, but I shouldn't have to do that. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks.
    --Scott
Sully, I think it is an odd coincidence that we both have "101 problems". I thought this was an iPod problem at first, but I have reset the iPod and started all over. The problem persists. I think the problem is in iTunes. In my case at least, there seems to be a list of m4p files within iTunes that were on this iPod before, files that i have replaced with regular mp3 files now, and iTunes doesn't want to copy over them. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

  • HELP  Podcasts won't copy to iPod!

    Hi everyone,
I never had any problems with previous versions of iTunes, but ever since I upgraded to version 7, I constantly get errors when copying podcasts to the iPod.
Say I download 10 podcasts. When I go to sync, about 6 of them go through with no problem, but I get a pop-up window for the other four that reads:
"PODCAST NAME" was not copied to the iPod "IPOD NAME" because it could not be found.
Note that I can watch the entire thing download, and still get this error. More frustrating, say it does copy over correctly and without any error. The next time I sync, it might give me the error then! Even if I've already listened to it on the iPod, so I know it was there!
This only happens with podcasts, and never songs.
Can anyone PLEASE help me? And on a related note, can someone please direct me to where I can download a previous version of iTunes? I never had any problems until I upgraded to that infernal version 7!
    Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

  • Podcasts won't copy to iPod

I'm getting error message "Podcasts cannot be updated because all of the podcasts selected for update no longer exist".
    I have
    -Reset iPod
-deleted all Podcast from iTunes and added new one
Still the same message, still unable to copy podcast to my iPod.
    Suggestions?

iTunes 9 appears to change the logic for including Podcasts when syncing to the iPod. Previously if a podcast episode was included in a playlist which in turn was synced via the selected playlists area on the music tab then that episode would be available in both the playlist & podcast sections of the iPod.
As I can see it (though not fully tested as yet) iTunes 9 initially excludes podcasts that are only included via a playlist rather than via the options to include, for example, All episdodes of selected podcasts. If you *scroll down* the Podcasts pane (with iPod conneced) however you will find another section with the heading *Include Episodes from Playlists*. I presume selecting relevant playlists in this section will then include the episodes that you want to include via smart playlists rather than podcast selections.
One presumes that this new feature is designed to stop the accidental inclusion of Podcasts, TV Shows etc. into playlists with over-general rules. Can't say I ever noticed anyone complaining about this as a problem though. Most of my smart playlists open with Playlist is Music to narrow them down and I would have thought consistency between the iTunes & iPod version of the same playlist is what most users would wish for.

  • Only two computers authorized but ACC songs won't copy to iPod.

Today I purchased some new music from iTunes. Once I was finished downloading iTunes informed me that I might want to upgrade the software on my iPod. I did. Then when it went to sync everything it came up with the following message.
"Some of the items in the iTunes library including "Say It Ain't So", were not copied to the iPod "Ben's iPod" because you are not authorized to play them on this computer."
I checked online and iTunes say that only 2 computers are authorized, which means I've got 3 to go. The other weird thing is that these new songs and some other protected ACC songs purchased form iTunes were copied and work fine on my iPod. Does anyone know what's going on here. I'm stumped.

  • Library won't copy to iPod

Just got my first iPod, all was going along great but when I tried to "sync" my music from iTunes to my iPod, I got an error message, "items in the iTune library were not copied to the iPod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." Only 1 of the 25 songs copied. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks so much!

    Hello,
First, check the iPod's preferences in iTunes... click on the iPod under Devices in the left-hand column. This should display the 'Summary' page (you'll see a picture of the iPod). Click on the Music tab, and make sure it is set to Sync all songs and playlists.
If the preferences are not set that way, change them so that they are, and then click Apply in the lower right-hand column. If they are already set that way, you might want to consider restoring your iPod in iTunes. This article will go over that in detail:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If the restore doesn't help, try changing the iPod drive letter, per this article:

    Hope this is helpful

  • "Your IPOD software is too Old." music won't copy to ipod

Here is back history; My Ipod Video 30gb stopped mounting (Windows formatted IPOD with the latest software- updater 03-23-2006). I tried the 5 R's on my PC. with no result. Managed to mount it with disk Utility on my MacBookPro in disk mode and erase it. Then restored it on my PC. After this the Ipod appears on the Mac as an IPOD mini icon on desktop and Itunes instead of as a Video Ipod (prior to orig. mounting problem it worked on both platforms.Appears on PC as correct icon, Ipod Video. I am unable to put video files on the Ipod when working on MacBookPro. Also, songs purchased in the music store on the MacBookPro give that message " your ipod software is too old".

I believe you need 1.2 on the iPod
There are so many threads on the board about these issues I don't remember where I read it, but there is a solution that involves deleting an ipod file which forces the thing to reinstall it.
I myself had a long nightmare of a time trying to update my 60g to 1.2 but I finally got it to work by doing it on my laptop.

  • Some songs correctly loaded into iTunes but won't transfer to iPod

Can't figure this one out. I have 40-odd songs in my 2000 iTunes songs that won't transfer to iPod. Error message says the format is not recognized by my iPod, even though the songs appear and play normally in iTunes. Songs are about 7 years old. The file extension on them says ".mp3". However, I notice when I select a problem song and click "info", the information tells me the songs is a MPEG audio file; 6.8 mb size; sample rate 44.1 khz; format MPEG-1, Layer 2; ID3 Tag V1.0; Encoded with "Unknown". How do I properly load or convert these so they will play on my iPod? Do I need to convert them to AAC format, and if I do, what am I giving up? I have about 500 of these old songs in my library, which I haven't yet loaded into my iTunes. Thanks in advance for any help or expertise!

  • ITunes 11.1.5.5 in Windows 8.1 won't copy to my 160GB iPod Classic.

I have an iPod Classic 160GB and iTunes (Windows 8.1 64bit Computer) won't copy songs to it. It either goes incredibly slow or it just hangs. I can connect the same iPOd to another computer, running Windows 7 64bit, iTunes 11.1.5.5, etc. and it all works perfectly. Is there a Windows 8.1 driver problem with Windows 8.1 and the iPod Classic?

Think you might find it has something to do with AVG.
iTunes worked effortlessly with Norton anti-virus or Windows Firewall on my Windows 8.1 machine but once I installed AVG Internet security everything in iTunes is very laggy.
All AVG settings are set to allow anything to do withTunes and Apple but problems still exist.
iPhone4, 4S, iPod touch 3 and 4 work OK but the Nano doesn't show up at all. I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, etc., but the problems still exist.
There have been reports on this forum before about this.

  • IPod video 30GB won't copy videos

    2 questions:
    (1) I have my songs in iTunes library and ipod in perfect sync, but the videos in the Library won't be copied into ipod. However, if I delete all the songs, then I can copy the videos into my iPod and they play perfectly.
    (2) Unlike video, I don't see any folder labeled as 'photo' in iTune, how do I copy my photos into iTune?
    Thanks.

Have you tried getting into the preferences menu? Go to Edit, then the very bottom should be preferences. Inside the preferences menu there are tabs, "General, Ipod, Sharing etc..." Connect your ipod to your computer, then under the Ipod tab they will have more tabs, "Music, Podcasts, Videos, Photos etc..." To import photos go to the photos tab and go from there, to import videos you need to make sure that under the videos tab "Automatically Update all videos" is selected. Try that????

  • 7.1 won't copy video to my 5th gen iPod

I clicked on the "Yes" button to allow iTunes to update itself to version 7.1. My next sync it gives me a new error message I've never seen.
"Some of the songs and videos in your iTunes Library, including xxx, were not copied to the iPod (my iPod) because they cannot be played on this iPod."
Then it gives me a list of 13 files including 7 videos that played just fine before installing 7.1, and every episode of "The Show with Ze Frank" since the 7.1 upgrade. Last time I checked I still had a 5th generation iPod, and other videos play just fine.
I repaired 7.1 and got the same message. I could work around it but I hate to lose 7 videos. Maybe when 7.1.1 comes out it will start working again?
    Has anybody else seen this?
    Thanks!

I've seen it with the update because it won't copy purchased content without you re-authorizing your machine. I just posted a question on this actually.
    Try going to:
    Store > Authorize Computer
Log in with your apple store id and password and it should sync up the content.
    Good luck!

Just so you know...if you do indeed have a mini (and are not confusing it with a Nano) then you have post in the wrong forum. This is the 2nd gen nano forum and if you do have a Nano you're still in the wrong forum since you stated that yours is over a year old and the 2nd gen is not a year old yet.

  • Itunes won't copy over some of my podcasts and purchases since I have moved it to an external hardrive

So I Have moved over all my purchases and everything to an external hardrive. I did everything right and my itunes story works perfectly fine. However one of my podcasts (yugioh the abridged series) won't copy over along to the ipod saying its file type is not supported by the ipod. It only does this with the first 8 episodes (if you find it you will see them) one of which (the bbt movie) worked perfectly fine on my ipod before but now for some reason it won't. It also won't work on a few of the tv shows that are in hd and one music album that had american boy in it. I'm wondering what I can do to solve this problem. My itunes and my computer (windows vista operating system) is up to date and I have an ipod classic with plenty of room what should I do.

This doesn't work. The iOS4 upgrade has wiped out synchronization to Outlook to the phone and back. There are many threads on this here, and Apple has yet to address this issue.
