Won't do a batch capture?

I have been capturing footage all day and all of a sudden have come across an odd problem. I have just logged about 14 clips. They all have "media start" and "media end" times in the browser. The timecode is fine on the dv tape itself. (there are no jumps or weird things happening)
It will let me capture by selecting just ONE clip and going to:
-Batch-
-Selected Items in Logging Bin-
But it keeps giving me an error message when I try to do a batch capture of all 14 clips. It says that I may not have enough pre/post roll footage for the capture, but I do. And if I didn't it shouldn't be allowing me to capture clips one at time using the "batch" setting.
Not really sure why this is happening? If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful! Thanks guys.

Normally it can restore from the latest backup . . . if it was a successful one.
Why are you doing this? Is your Mac running? Can you get to +Enter Time Machine?+
If so, note the date and time of the latest backup.
How are you doing the restore? Booting from your Leopard Install disc, selecting Utilities then +Restore from Backup?+ Note that the list of backups there may not be shown in your local time zone -- they're in Pacific time. Does this match what you saw via +Enter Time Machine+ (adjusted for any time zone difference)?
If you're doing something else, what?

  • Help ! Batch Capture won't capture . FCP 5 & Kona 3

When I select any offline clip and try to batch capture it - the machine seems to be working fine, cues up the deck at the start of the clip, rolls away - the capture screen appears but then everything just keeps rolling - ie it doesnt stop when it reaches the tc out point of the clip. I eventually have to abort and the offline clip remains offline.
Capture Now on the fly works fine.
This is a new G5 Quad running the latest OS with FCP5 capturing from a Digibeta PAL Sony deck with RS 422 control thru the AJA BOB to a Kona 3 Card. I havce full deck control as normal thru the Log & Capture window.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the latest Kona drivers? What are you capturing to? What codec are you using?

Glad you found the answer, I was wondering what the problem was when I read the post. Sometimes you can learn the most about an application by troubleshooting.
Can you mark this thread as being solved so it can help future people searching the same issue?

  • Unable to batch capture with Premiere Pro CC via Kona LHi

AJA's web site claims Premiere Pro CC is compatible with the Kona LHi card, but I can't get the two to work together properly. After repeated tries, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything AJA, but still no luck.
I need to batch capture DV clips from some mini-DV tapes on my Sony MVR035U tape deck.  But I also need to upconvert them from 480i to 720p60 using my Kona Lhi card. I should be able to do this with Premiere Pro CC. But the PPCC Capture window won't give me any audio feedback when I select "AJA Movie Capture" in the Capture Settings pull down menu. I only get audio feedback when I enable "DV capture" but then I'm no longer able to upconvert.
Looking forward to any feedback on this issue. Been tying all day to trouble shoot this problem.

And now with CC June 2014 you can't even capture from HDV, I need to go back to Premiere CC 2013 for that....Adobe might think tape capture is over... but it isn't totally yet...

  • Failed Batch Capture - Broken Timecode

    Hello,
I'm attempting to capture some old footage from a project I had done in Premiere about a year ago.
There is clip in particular I'm trying to capture where the timecode was broken - premiere attempts to capture the first 8 minutes of my clip and then stops and gives me an error stating that the timecode was broken.
Is there anyway to force premiere to capture this clip all the way through and ignore the broken timecode point?
It's not a big deal to capture the clip "manually" but the problem is that I had split up and edited this clip so much, I'd rather batch capture it so that it will automatically appear on my sequence and I won't have to re-edit the whole thing.
    Thanks!
    FOO

I also have a Canopus card (in a system with Premiere 6.5) and broken timecode ("timecode hell" as I call it) was really only an issue when the tape pre-rolled over the break point during batch capture.
Do you still have the old Canopus .avi? You could use their util for CDVC <-> DVSD conversions:

  • Batch capture question

by mistake, i just captured video instead of audio for about 20 clips. is there anyway to go back and get the audio only through batch capture. i highlighted the clips and did a batch capture but the only thing it re-captured was the video and no audio.

First, are you SURE there's no audio?
Second... your best bet is to capture the whole clips again. Make sure you have the VIDEO+AUDIO selected in the batch capture settings. That way you won't have to try and 'link' the audio back to the video.
Will take the same amount of time too.

  • Batch capturing free run timecode.

    Hi,
I have just been through and logged 3 hour tape which was recorded on free run timecode. I have just tried to batch capture it all and it isnt working because of the timecode discontinuity.
Is their a way I can override this? Any help would be appreciated as this is a nightmare for me.
    Thanks very much,
    Simon.

Won't recording in capture now make each timecode break it's own clip?
Yes. As it should be. If it didn't, then the timecode would be right for the first clip, but then all the others, the timecode would be wrong.
Or is there a way to set it up so that it makes it one clip?
Yes...if you turn off deck control. Switch it to UNCONTROLLABLE DEVICE. But then you lose any and ALL reference to timecode, and timecode is GOLD to an editor. Why? Because if the drive with the media dies, all you need to do is recapture the footage and your edit will be rebuilt. Or, if you deleted the media and needed to recapture it at a later date, then you could. If you capture with NO reference timecode, and you lose the media....your edit is gone, and you'll have to rebuild the cut from scratch.
But, do that if you want. Just know what the consequences might be.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 Batch Capture Problems

    Hi,
I'm sorry for the repost, but the older questions I can find on this topic won't allow me to reply and they were never answered (last post several months ago).
I'm having the batch capture problem with Premiere Pro CS5.5. Capture with device control works great when single capturing. When I log clips and attempt to batch capture, though, I get the "capture failed: device not found" error in my capture log. I have checked through the FAQ and the complete premiere manual on batch capturing. I've set my device (still using a Canon XL1) and even checked the video size...it matches that of my project (someone on another forum mentioned that this could be an issue). I have had no luck.
Could anyone tell me if this issue has been resolved, or redirect me to a resolution?
Thanks in advance for any help!!
    Steve

I have encountered this problem if the current tape position is beyond the last recorded point when you start the batch capture or if any "OUT" points are beyond the last recorded position or if the capture spans any unrecorded portions of the tape. I always thought it was my camera but maybe it is a PPro issue.

  • Batch Capture Problems - only some of batch being captured each time

I'm editing on a MacBook Pro with final cut version 5.1.4., with an operating system of OSX 10.4.10, off of an DVX100B in NTSC mode (at 30P settings) and when I try to Batch Capture, it won't capture all the clips. It acts as if it's capturing all of them, and at the end it tells me it has, but when i press "ok", there are only about a third of them that were actually captured, and I have to start again, and go through the batch about 4-5 times to get them all captured.
    HELP!
    Thanks

    Superstitious, indeed.
As noted, we can't tell much from where we're sitting. Welcome to the forum, too.
Beginners' issues with batch capturing are often traced to not completely understanding how logging works. Maybe you have designated several overlapping clips.

  • Batch Capture from a FCP sequence

When I select a sequence for batch capture with no handles, the system reports much more media to be captured than the total running time of the clips. Why should this be?
Alternatively, suppose I wish to import an off-line sequence at a higher resolution, how should I re-capture just the media+handles that's used in my sequence?

Create a new sequence and delete all the audio in the timeline. This should reduce the amount of media needing to recapture. It still may show a time larger than the length of your sequence. Even with out handles. Not sure why.
Also, make sure all the clips have timecode and a reel number. It won't deleted the unused portions if it doesn't have it.

  • Batch Capture and Timecodes

I am trying to batch capture a selection of 25 clips from a logging bin in FCP 5.1 and while connected to the camera, the program will not allow me to do so as it says that it cannot find a timecode. I'm new to this and do not know how to remedy the situation. How do I proceed or put in a timecode?

    AH...OK then.
Timecode is written to the tape when you shoot. It isn't that time of day thing you see, but when you shuttle the tape back and forth, in the Capture window you see 1:00:00:00...or 1:11:34:20 or 00:34:45:19...stuff like that. THAT is the timecode.
Now...FCP needs to get a run at the footage before it can capture. Like a track athlete needs a running start to do the Long Jump. He needs to back up...run and then LEAP. Similarly, FCP (and every other editing software) needs to do that with tape. The reason is they need the tape to reach a constant speed. When you first press play, the speed might waver for a few seconds, then settle. FCP needs that footage to settle, so it needs 3-5 seconds (default is 5 seconds) of what is called PRE-ROLL (length of track) to get a running start with the footage. If you don't give FCP this 5 seconds, it will try to back up and hit the beginning of the tape...literally a fence. It doesn't have enough room..so it will say "hey, there isn't any timecode here for me to get a running start. There is this big chain fence in my way." So it won't capture.
You need to make sure you log the first clip at least 6 seconds from the head of the tape. This is one reason professionals record 30 seconds of color bars, or black, at the head of each tape.
And if you have timecode breaks, where the timecode restarts again at 00:00:00:00...you need to log the shot 6 seconds AFTER that too...and then manually move the tape to After that break, then capture. Other wise FCP might not see it, and will capture again from the first section of video.
    Video is complex stuff...

  • Batch Capture Lists Using Numbers

Has anyone been able to use Numbers to create a batch capture list for Final Cut Pro? I was able to do this all the time with Excel, just export as a tab-delimited file, then import that file into FCP. It's an easy way to log footage to perform a batch capture later on. Numbers won't export as a tab-delimited file. And I've tried exporting as a csv, but FCP doesn't recognize that file type. I love the simplicity and interface of the iWork suite much better than Office, I don't want to reinstall Excel just to use it for that one purpose.

    No can do!
Just hit this problem myself, today. Numbers does not have a tab-delimited output format option. I suggest we make an enhance request to Apple, against Numbers, for this obvious omission.
So, anyway, it is easy to post-process a CSV file into a tab-delimited file. It is just an extra step
Aside from using the "Find And Replace" functionality within a text editor, this can be readily accomplished on a terminal command line, for those comfy in that environment:
    cat LOGFILE.csv | sed 's/,/<tab>/g' > LOGFILE.txt
Where I put "<tab" above, type a tab character instead.
    Have fun,

    Hello
If I understand well you wish to extract the contents of a group of cells as a TAB delimited file.
    An easy way would be
    select the block of cells
Copy to clipboard (cmd + c)
    Create a blank Pages document
    Paste (cmd + v)
Export the document as text file.
You may also use this script which is really easy to use.
Paste the script in a blank window of Script Editor
Save it as an application named cells2TSV.app
Move the newly created application into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications
    Now, enter your Numbers Table.
Select the range of cells which you want to export
    Copy to the clipboard
    Now, go to
    menu Scripts > cells2TSV
You will get on the desktop a Tab Separated Values file named:
    -- (SCRIPT cells2TSV.app]
    property nomDuRapport : "wasCellsnowTSV.txt"
set rapport to the clipboard as Unicode text
set p2d to path to desktop
set p2r to (p2d as Unicode text) & nomDuRapport
tell application "System Events" to if exists (file p2r) then delete (file p2r)
    tell application "Finder" to set NewDoc to make new file at p2d with properties {name:nomDuRapport}
write rapport to (NewDoc as alias)
    --[/SCRIPT]

  • Batch Capture from Offline Sequence

I have some older projects that I need to revisit and since the original capture files are no longer around I told FCP to batch capture the sequence from the original media (actually AVCHD files on folders). However it only brought in about 80% of the footage leaving the remaining 20% offline.
I went to the browser and manually brought those files in - so I managed to recover the sequence in the end, but is there anything I could have done wrong to make it only bring in 'some' rather than 'all' the offline media for a given sequence?

Create a new sequence and delete all the audio in the timeline. This should reduce the amount of media needing to recapture. It still may show a time larger than the length of your sequence. Even with out handles. Not sure why.
Also, make sure all the clips have timecode and a reel number. It won't deleted the unused portions if it doesn't have it.

  • Batch capture takes twice as long to capture

Weird problem. Say I have 3 clips on a single tape (this happens across all tapes and projects) I log them and then select them to batch capture.
All, seemingly, goes well, they cue up and the log and capture screen says "item 1 of 3" or "2 of 3" etc.. but then when it looks like it is done, rather than end, it goes all the way back to the beginning and seemingly re-captures all footage! When I check my capture scratch folder, i only have one file for each capture sequence.
Thus, my capturing takes 2x as long to capture!
    any ideas?
    thanks
    FC Studio 2 (i.e. FCP 6.x)

So it's PAL footage? or NTSC? anamorphic?
Odd though, never seen this behavior, so not sure how to troubleshoot it other than to rebuild your startup disk... (the old sledge hammer approach). It shouldn't be happening though and likely won't with all the setup being clean (as in rebuilding your startup disk). It's all up to the latest too right? 104.11 or or 10.5.2, and QT 7.4.1? FCP 6.0.2, right?
