Won't embed font due to licensing restrictions

Trying to work with the Chinese font provided on a MAC called HeitiStd, however when I try to make a PDF I get the error message: won't embed font due to licensing restrictions.
Any idea how to work around this?
Cynthia

Thanks for the help. How do I get the font to re-install? It came with the computer. Is it on the original disks? Should I contact Apple? (I'm on a MAC).
Thanks for not treating me like an idiot and telling me to "use another font". That's pretty obvious and of course I tried that first, but the "other fonts" didn't show all the characters! I knew about the outline too, but needed to be able to edit the PDFs.

Apparently fontlab.com's TypeTool3 does not allow you to set licensing, and it defaults to 'not-embeddable'.
You have to upgrade to Fontographer (another $300) to be able to set the licensing. Now that I've done that, it works.

  • Compiler won't embed fonts as CFF

I've just started working with Flex 4 SDK and the Text Layout Framework. There is one problem I have not been able to solve, no matter what. I am trying to embed a font to use with the new text engine, so it must be embedded as CFF, if I understand correctly. I attempted this, and I get no compiler or runtime errors, but when I check the fontType property of the embedded font, it says 'embedded' instead of 'embeddedCFF'. I am using what I believe is proper embedding code:
    [Embed(source="lacuna.ttf", fontFamily="Lacuna", cff="true")]
But it won't actually embed it as such, it seems. Here's a zip file with a demonstration of my problem; includes the free Lacuna TTF font, but you may replace that with any other, if you wish to see that this is not an issue with the font itself.
Regarding the contents of the zip file: I am not using the Flex IDE (or Flash), so I included a Windows batch file to easily compile the Main class, but it must be configured for it to point to the correct Flex SDK path. Don't mind the Label class; it just makes it easy to create a TextLine (from the TLF).
My problem could be related to this issue, but I'm not using the Flex IDE, and I don't know what RSLs are.
I'd greatly appreciate anyone who can help me solve this little headache of a problem. I'm very intrigued by the TLF, but I seem to have been roadblocked with this issue.
edit: Forgot to say: I'm using the 4.0.0 build 7219 version of the Flex SDK.

Embedding a font does not make it available in Illustrator or any other program. (Exception, Acrobat is able, and must, use the font to correctly draw the page.)
If there are missing fonts when opening a pdf in Illustrator, the fonts are not installed on the machine.
As Bob said, "Illustrator is not a pdf editor!". It can, and is abused for such, all to often, with caveats.

  • In CS2, bridge says cannot be used due to licensing restrictions. What does that mean?

    n

Probably means you have more than 2 activated copies of CS2 installed, or are trying to use 2 copies at the same time.

  • Font Licensing Restriction Issue

I recently transferred a lot of ttf and otf fonts (originally purchased for and used on a Windows NT machine) to Mac Book Pro. When I try to use the fonts in Abode CS5.5 (In illustrator) I'm told I need a license. Won't let me embed the fonts, for example, when saving to a PDF. (1) Is this a Mac issue or an Adobe issue? (2) How do I resolve?
The Illustrator message reads: "The font [name] could not be embedded in the PDF document because of licensing restrictions. Stroked text will not be visible."

It may be the Mac is more up-to-date with font restriction enforcement, dunno, you may have to Google it. I've run into this for years, generally with free fonts, so before I am ready to produce the final PDF I just outline the font which works fine for print pieces of all sizes but not for online documents with many pages due to file size as the outline shapes are certainly larger in file size than font references based on shapes in fonts that can be embedded.
You may want to consider asking the font developer first before purchasing again as just repurchasing may not get rid of a "non-embed" setting in a file if that is what the font developer wants there.
So your options are: use your old Windows workflow, outline fonts, or contact the font developer. Nothing else anyone on discussion boards can do for you.

  • I get this message "Cannot save the file as the font "ArmenianLSU-italic" could not be embedded because of licensing restrictions. Turn off the pdf compatibility option and try again. I have this file from when I had CS4. It worked then. I trying to make

I get this message when I am trying to save a file that was done in CS4, now using  CS6 "Cannot save the file as the font "ArmenianLSU-italic" could not be embedded because of licensing restrictions. Turn off the pdf compatibility option and try again." Even if I start a new file I unable to save it with this font. I need to use this font.

Then you need to outline all text before savng the PDF.
Make sure you do this on a copy of the file.

  • Myriad Roman licensing restrictions on someone else's template:

    Hello!
To elaborate - I'm working on a CD artwork, and I'd like to upload all the designs as PDFs.  This is the first time I've done work on these documents on the computer I'm on now, and when I went to save my Illustrator file to a PDF after some new edits, I got a message that the font Myriad-Roman would not embed because of licensing restrictions.  Where there used to be some text in the template, there is now just a bunch of gibberish.
I'm at a loss, because the font is not something I've placed in the document, it's a font that was part of the template I'm working with from disc makers.  I don't know how to fix the issue, or how to get around it.  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Hi Dov,
While I'm not specifically sure about the font's origins, I am positive it is not part of the Myriad Pro family, as that has been a part of my font library since purchasing the Adobe CS6 package a couple of years ago, and has worked fine the whole time.  From what I could tell in other searches and forum answers here, Myriad Roman is part of an older font package distributed by Adobe.  With that being said, I may still be able to find something off if I check the file access privileges, so I will try that.
The reason I'm not sure how to resolve the issue is because the template is still vital as part of the files that I need to send off.  I'm not familiar enough with their workflow to know whether or not changing something like that in the template could accidentally affect their ability to use the data to print the images.  I think the chances of causing a problem by just changing the font in the template to Myriad Pro are small/negligible, but until I can contact the company tomorrow I won't know for sure.
My hope was that there was some kind of fix for the licenses/authorization, or that there was some original files I could buy/download to have the proper rights to use the font in the template and just not worry about it.
If you've got any other useful information that could help in those regards, I would be extremely grateful!

  • How to embed fonts in an existing pdf document

PDF Documents I am creating and emailing to my clients are showing up missing bargraps and text. I suspect embedding is not working. Is it possible or even needed to embed fonts in an existing pdf document? Or, is that done during pdf creation? -MikeT

You'd want embedded fonts with your PDFs so as to assure fidelity of your content.
If my local machine does not have the font used in the PDF what I view may be / can be something "off" from what you mastered.
Perhaps squares instead of language characters.
Distiller job options such as High Quality Print or Press Quality embed fonts (Standard does not).
For a PDF that does not have embedded fonts a Preflight Fixup can be used to embed fonts (even one for hidden text from Searchable Image or Searchable Image (Exact) OCR output).
Need Acrobat 9 Pro or Pro Extended.
The fonts must be on the local machine and "known" to the OS.
The fonts must have no license restriction(s) that preclude embedding.
    Be well...

  • Does Pages '09 embed font in PDF?

Well, my subject says it all.
Some PDF creators on Windows have the "embed fonts" option. Pages doesn't. However, I don't know if it does it by default when exporting to PDF.
    Thanks,
    Manu

Absolutely correct. Almost. There is an exception in the rare case where fonts contain a flag that they cannot be embedded. There is some license restriction with these fonts.
You should get a message, when they are not embedded, but if you want to make doubly sure, open the generated PDF in Adobe Reader and check the file properties in the File menu. There you can see which fonts are embedded.

  • How do you embed fonts in a Captivate 6 interaction?

I've created an interaction using AR Cena font (which is loaded on my machine), but when a colleague displays the published version on her computer the font I have used does not display. It is published out as a zip file and loaded into our LMS. Any suggestions or solutions would be great.

To answer your question directly, you cannot directly embed fonts used in an InDesign document into that document itself with the following exception. If you place a PDF or EPS file with embedded fonts into an InDesign document, those fonts remain embedded; you don't need to have any other copy of those fonts available to view, print, or export to PDF.
As indicated by another responder, packaging an InDesign document can provide a means of moving fonts with the document, albeit as separate files in the package (of course, limited to your licensing rights to those fonts).

  • How to embed fonts in ePub (Pages 09)

^ That's my question, basically. I want to self publish an ebook, but it has some unusual fonts for the chapter headers, and I know that unless I embed them somehow, ereaders won't automatically pick up on them.
Is this possible? And if so, could someone give me a rundown please?
    Ta much!

Do a google search on "embed fonts epub" to find info on how you have to modify the code to do that.

  • I Need to Embed Fonts in my PDF

    Hi,
I am trying to upload a pdf into a website but they say there is an error that's stopping the process from going ahead. Apparently I have to embed the fonts in my pdf first.
I've done quite a bit of online research and found several ways of doing this - none of which seem to be possible to me!
Is there a way that I can embed fonts without having to buy something? I have Adobe Reader, Digital Editions... but I have no idea if I have anything else (Acrobat?). I haven't deliberately bought it, but this is a brand new top-of-the-range, expensive laptop so I don't know if would have already been installed? Windows 8.2 means that it's harder than ever to navigate your way around the computer.
    Thank you in advance,
    zengirluk

    I have Adobe Reader!
I just made a document in word and saved it as a pdf.
I have downloaded the trial version and gone through the steps as described here:
    https://lvb.wiwi.hu-berlin.de/doc/embedfonts.pdf
Now about to upload to the website... I'll let you know if it's worked. I have a feeling it won't have because I don't have a printer and didn't print it out. The method described above wanted me to print the document out. However I don't want or need to. I just want to embed the fonts so the website accepts my document!

  • How do I embed fonts into Captivate projects?

This question came up in May 2006 but was never really
answered. I'd like to know how to embed fonts into my Captivate
projects so that the output looks the same on all computers. While
the text animations are fine, the Text Caption fields are the ones
that seem to have fonts that go walkies on other computers. I know
you can embed fonts in PDFs. Why not in Captivate (unless I'm
    missing something in 2.0).

First, a tip for the forums: If you use the URL tags, your
post won't require horizontal scrolling - sorry, but I use Firefox
and entering a long URL totally blows my ability to smoothly read
the post ... you can manually add a text link by using the "L" tag
as shown below (I've put spaces in to avoid this being turned into
    another text link)
    [ L = Your Text]
    http://www.yourdomain.com [ /
    L ]
Back to your issue, Charinos. I'm glad you did find the URL,
but that thread and your problem are not even in the same world.
That thread deals with fonts in text-entry boxes (boxes for
end-user text-entry), and you are talking about text-captions, an
    entirely different object.
In fact, if you make changes and save those changes to a
text-caption, then publish the project, the fonts in your text
captions will remain stable and are not dependent on the fonts
installed on the end-viewer's machine. The reason is that when the
SWF is compiled, the text captions are converted to images and so
long as the file is viewed as intended in the HTML document - at
the proper size - the stretching you describe cannot take place.
I'm not saying you are seeing things, but if my understandings of
the Captivate machine are correct, what you are saying is happening
    cannot
be happening. Something else is going on, like a failure to
save changes, use of non-conforming text-caption boxes with a
resultant loss of margins, or something.
Sorry I'm not more help. I can't duplicate what you are
seeing but I hope someone else can help you out - I may still be
    misunderstanding your issue.

  • How do I edit the default settings to always embed fonts?

How do I edit the default settings in Acrobat Pro XI to always embed fonts?

Do not use the Std job settings, but use the Press or Print settings. You can also edit the properties of the Job Settings (best done in Distiller) to not exclude any fonts and embed all as subset fonts. Be sure to check the option to continue if embedding is not possible or your creation will fail if you used a font that is not licensed for embedding (Acrobat will only embed fonts that are legally licensed for embedding -- most are, but not all).
If you edit the Std, you will need to save to a new name. You might use MyStd or such. Then go to the Start>Printers and edit the properties of the Adobe PDF printer to make that settings file the default. If you use PDF Maker, you will have to change the PDF Maker preferences also (PDF Maker seems to use the last selection, not the default in the printer). Hopefully that is clear enough.
