Won't import old image files
Help,
I have a series of directories with 20 year old image files. Mac Info says they are tiffs. Photoshop can open them, preview can open them. Lightroom doesn't even recognize them, I don't even get typical lightroom errors. And these were copied over from CD roms where they were backed up in the era before harddrives were big. And interestingly, some files are recognized and added. Anyone sen anything like this?
>If the files don't have a .TIF filename extension then add an extension to one of the files and then see if it will import.
Bob is right. That is probably the issue. Lightroom doesn't recognize the old filetype/creator metadata codes that Macs used to use 20 years ago so won't recognize that they are image files if there is no extension. You might not realize there is no extension as Mac OS X stupidly hides those by default. You should always turn that option off in the Finder presences->advanced.

Is it possible to import old LSO files created in Logic Platinum 5 software (Windows) into Logic Pro on Mac?

Thanks for helpNot possible with the current Logic 9 version, you would need Logic 7 or below to do so!

Unable to import certain image files in CS5
I currently am using CS5, and I am unable to import certain image files such as .png and.tga. When I try to import them I get an error message saying something along the lines of file type not supported. Any help?
Make sure that the images are not CMYK color space.
Already tried that, thanks
One thing to take note of is everytime I start AE I get a pop up box saying "You have at least one output module template that refers to a missing plug-in. Please check your Output Module Template". That plug-in would be the TIIFF alpha sequence output. Perhaps that has something to do with it.. -
Lightroom 2 won't import Nikon D3s files
I work with Photoshop CS4 and have upgraded the camera RAW to v5.7 in order that Nikon D3s files can be used, but Lightroom 2 doesn't seem to be able to import these NEF files. Where can I update Camera Raw in Lightroom and how do I do this exactly?
Thank youThanks; I ordered the upgrade.

The A33 isn't supported until LR 3.2. So, if you posted to this thread because you are using LR 2, then that's your problem.

Import does not recognize old image files that have no extension
Just discovered that the import facility does not see (or accept) old Mac image files that have no extension -- even if these files have a Mac "kind" that is an image such as "Adobe Photoshop file".
You can manually add an extension to the file (and respond to an "are you sure?" dialog). Then the file will be seen and accepted.
This is extremely dangerous (and painful to manually correct) since you think you are seeing all images in the import box, but you are not.
In fact, I deleted huge image directories after having satisfactorally (I thought) imported them into Aperture many months ago. Most of the old extension-less files had been updated and did have extensions in later versions. However, I missed one important image and looked everywhere for it.
By a miracle I had a backup of my image directories on a Power Book that I am retiring and finally noticed that the missing image was there just before deleting that directory too! I then figured out why this image (and many others) had not been imported. So, now I am going through manually and adding extensions.
Does anyone know a better way -- to get Aperture to recognize extension-less images? If not, this needs to fixed in the next version as it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Dual 2.7Ghz G5 ATI Radeon X800 XT 2.5 GB ram Mac OS X (10.4.6)Well there's an idea...probably would need to go into Bridge <g> to do that most efficiently .. or Automator.
It turns out that I already had added extension to most (but not all) images in my main image directory and so they got into Aperture alright. I just have to go through all the images in the backup I just found (where many did not get extensions) to find the ones that Aperture missed. So far, there have been just a couple more...
The real problem is that Aperture should not be missing these, even if they are archaic. At the very least, Aperture's import should give a warning that there are files in a folder that it is not going to import AND is not even showing. Otherwise this is a serious gotcha!

Old Image Files (with hidden extenion name) won't open.
Recently upgraded from 0s 9.2 to 10.4.
All of our file extensions that were just hidden in OS 9.2 are now missing...
I'm looking at a folder full of image files, some are .tif, some are .eps but they now display a unix executable file icon and the extension is missing...
Is there any way to fix this?Crappy workaround but at least you can see the ics info...
• open the mobileme web client
• click on the message with the calendar item in it
• click on the forward message button
You'll see all the code for the ics attachment in the view. It's ugly, but at least you can see what date and time you're scheduled for your hernia surgery -
I'm encountering this error and not sure how to fix, I'm quite new to vCenter so please bear with me.
I'm trying out vCenter 5.1 with Update Manager 5.1 right now. No license key has been entered and I still have 50 odd days to try it out.
2 ESXi hosts are being managed by this vCenter, and they're both running ESXi 4.0
I'm looking to use Update Manager to try to upgrade the ESXi 4.0 hosts to ESXi 5.1
I downloaded the image file VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-799735.iso from VMWare website, and is looking to import it using the Update Manager so I can update the ESXi hosts, but I keep on getting the error:
File name: VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-799735.iso
Failed to transfer data
Error was: A web exception has occurred during file upload
I tried importing it by using vSphere client to connect to vCenter server both remotely and locally, with firewall disabled.
I've read http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1026602
I've disabled firewall, and there is no anti-virus program on the server. I've also restarted the machine several times, to no avail, I didn't reinstall update manager because the whole Windows and VCenter installations are clean from scratch.
I logged into the vSphere Client using Active Directory credentials, and I've made all Domain Admins (which my account is a member of) part of the administrator group on the vCenter server. I can't log in using admin@System-Domain because it tells me I don't have permissions for it, I still haven't really had the chance to figure out why that is and not sure if that makes a difference.
Also, I'm fairly certain I'm using the right image file, as I've burned some DVD's used that image file to upgrade some other ESXi hosts. Unless there's a special image file I need to download?
I'm at lost on what I can do to make it work. Please advise.
Thanks. The ISO file you mentioned is the one for vCenter Server. What you need is the "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.1.0-799733.x86_64.iso" (or VMware-VMvisor-Installer-201210001-838463.x86_64.iso) for the ESXi host.

Importing an image file from a folder not inside iPhoto????
I can't find a way to just import a jpg or other image file into iMovie O8. Do you really have to put it in iPhoto and then bring it in.
Thanks - LarryDo you really have to put it in iPhoto and then bring it in.
No, you can simply drop them to the "Project" window from the desktop to automatically create a "Still Frame" sequence. -
Lightroom Unable to Import HDR Image File Opened as Smart Object
I just started using Nik HDR Efex Pro and created an image file in PS CS4 Extended which was opened as a smart object and saved to play around with later. The image shows up in Photoshop as "[image number]_hdr.tif" and both PS CS4 Extended and CS5 have no problem opening it. But I cannot import it into LR3. LR3 gives me a dialogue box which says in effect that the image file cannot be imported because it is corrupt or unsupported. I am guessing the latter because (perhaps) as a smart object the image file is 32bit(?) In any event, has anyone tried and had luck importing to LR3 in this circumstance? Is it "operator error" or just something LR cannot handle? Also, if you have encountered this problem, do you have a workaround? Thanks in advance.
Hi,
The backend for middleware should be same as what it was in MI.
the erro comes when the corrosponding structure in a bapi doesnot exists in current backend.
Please check if the structure ZEFLMI_DOC_HDR_T51 exists in backend.
Thanks,

Organizer in Photoshop Elements 9 won't import large NEF files
Photoshop Elements 9 won't import the NEF fiels from my new Nikon D800.
Yes, the camera is too new for PSE9. You will have to either:
Upgrade to PSE11
Download the free Adobe DNG Converter Version 7.3 and use that to convert your NEFs to DNGs, and then PSE9 will be able to import them
Use the Nikon software to convert the file to TIF, then import into PSE. -
How can I Import old lbi files to DW8 - solved
A fast search here found me nothing so if someone knows of a
post feel free to point me there.
A year or so ago my DW4 started crashing to desktop everytime
I opened it, I haven't done much webwork the last few years so it
wasn't that important but now I just purchased DW8 and if I can't
get the old library files to work with the new version I am in for
a world of editing I don't want to deal with to re-create them all
and update every page that has one (groan).
I bet if DW didn't crash to desktop I could have exported the
old one and imported to DW8? But I can't so don't tell me to do
that :). I MAYYYYYY be able to do it on an old laptop that I think
it still worked on so that is a last resort, but how can there not
be some way for the modern DW to scan for old site files that
existed? I don't get it.DW8 and DW4 were identical in the way that they create
Library items.
> There used to be a library window that let you click
insert or you
> could drag & drop the files into a page...
There still is. It's in the Assets tab of the Files Panel.

Canon IXUS 950 won't import large AVI files into iPhoto
The new canon Ixus 950 IS wont import large (over 50mb) AVI files in iPhoto, why not?
They sit on the SD card and then sometimes subsequent pics and video's don't upload.
If there are say, 3 x 40mb files they dont upload either... After waiting ages the box pops up, unable to import.
I can individually import the AVI files under 50mb
I also note that the hard drive icon for the camera does not appear on the desktop or the finder so I could not 'drag' them in either...
Any ideas?
DavidI have a similar problem with importing large AVIs from my Canon A610. iPhoto would import everything else (usually) except the large AVIs, which it claims is unreadable. In this particular case (~470MB file), it plays in QuickTime, I've resaved it using QT (still won't import) and converted it from MJPEG to Cinepak (still won't import). I'm now considering cutting the AVI up into smaller chunks and importing those... but any other options before that?
Misc computer details: Main HD is 120GB with 30 for Boot Camp, 80 remains for Mac OS X, but the iPhoto Library is on an external HD (also 120GB, same model as internal HD except not SATA) formatted to FAT32. Would 10.4.11 make a difference here? -
I recently got a Nikon D7100. I have no problem importing the images into my iMac, but my MacBook Air will not import them. I get an error that says that the file format isn't recognized. Both machines are running Snow Leopard.
I tried downloading the file with the RAW format for the D7100, but my MacBook Air is saying that I need to have Lion to use it.
Why can I import the images on my iMac and not my MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is actually newer than the iMac.
Thanks,
CaroleSo given that the newer version works and the older does not this is likely to be the cause
So download the update to iPhoto '11 version 9.2.3 and install it on the MBA - http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1514

Unable to import old AB files- SL
Hello,
Just upgraded to SL from Tiger. Did a full backup (not with Time Machine as it wasn't included with Tiger) onto an external drive. ( I used SuperDuper if that helps any)
I can see all my old AB files on the backup drive (looked in my home Library/app supp/addbk and also found the Metadata folder in /Caches)
When I tried to import my old data into SL, all my old AB files are greyed out and I can't select them or any folder associated with them in order to import them into Snow Leopard.
Things I've tried: I took the entire Address Book folder from my backup and used it to replace my Snow Leopard folder of the same name and location. No good. No errors either, just ignores the data.
Help?Woot!
Seems that the drive has a quirk in that it needs to be triggered during startup to boot.
I had used the "option key" to select the drive which didn't work. When I went into "System Preferences" and "Startup Disk", selecting the backup and rebooting it worked!
Sigh. It's illogical quirks like this that drove me to Mac's in the first place -Windoze is rife with them!
Oh well, this is the first real quirk I've run into, guess I shouldn't complain.
Thanks for all the help! -
Hi Everyone
I'm having a problem with iTunes 11.0.1. I can't import .mov video files stored on an external hard drive. I can however import .m4v files from the same external drive. Using either the add to library option or dragging files from the finder.
I can add .mov files from the internal though. Strange I know.
The reason behind this posting is that I'm using iFlicks to convert my TV and movies from my external drive for Apple TV and add all relevent meta data, keeping the files on the external drive and having iTunes link to them.
I would like to be able to simply create a general iTune compatiable file using iFlicks which only takes a minute or two per file to convert. I'm currently converting them to .m4v just for the sack of being able to import them into iTunes from an external drive takes 45 minutes per file.
Has anybody else had this problem? Any ideas on a fix to allow me to import .mov files from an external drive into iTunes without copying it to the iTune library file.
Many Thanks
