Won't Install on Windows XP Pro

Oh my gosh, I have tried everything! Flash Player simply
won't install. What's the alternative?
The problem is on my Dell Inspiron Laptop. I am able to
install and use Flash Player on the other user accounts on my
laptop, but not on my user account. I have set all users to limited
and only me as the administrator. I have uninstalled all spyware
but McAffe, and I have stopped it from running. I have set all my
internet options to enable everything to the point my computer is
completely insecure. I have uninstalled Flashplayer, checked
Windows/System32/Macromedia to see it is gone. I have restarted my
computer.
I have checked the registry key in Windows. It doesn't have
anything listed under permissions. But when I sign on as the other
user that Flashplayer downloads and works, the registry key
permissions are identical...empty. I've stopped every process,
every application possible. I've downloaded unsuccessfully,
uninstalled, restarted, and completed the process over and over
again.
At this point I am completely compromising my computer just
to try to get Flashplayer to work.
Any ideas? This is so frustrating!

As suggested, I unistalled PSE 7; paused Kaspersky Internet Security program (I am not running any Norton/Symantec programs); and reinstalled from the original CD. The installation process (again) completed with apparent success. Nevertheless, the program will not load. It generates the same error messages as before:
Error Signature

Viewing "technical information about the error report" takes me to a lengthy screen and a reference to "C:\DOCUME~1\David\LOCALS~1\Temp\4f46_appcompat.txt" That file is very short:

The "Error Report Contents" lists "information about your process [that] will be reported." Unfortunately, I cannot copy and paste it into this message. The "Exception Information" is quite brief, however, and I re-type it below:

I am running Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3. My CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ = 2.21GHz. SysInfo reports 2.93GB of RAM.
Any other suggestions?

  • Client2IR1a won't install on Windows 7 Pro

The install routine keeps asking for a file that is actually there but it won't accept it. I keep browsing to select it but it won't take it. I finally hit Cancel and it says there's a fatal installation error. I rebooted and it just comes back to the windows logon.
    The file is i386\authentication\nccredlogonext.dll
    I've turned off Windows Firewall.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

This is a fairly old thread and I'm going off pure luck here; but I am running the install from a OES server, using SAMBA on a NSS based folder; but I get an error trying to load the specific .DLL file from within the /amd64/Authentication directory.
Is it best to create a bundle in ZCM to copy down the client locally to the drive? I wanted to avoid this if at all possible.
    Thanks

That was in fact one of the odd Windows 7-specific failures
identified. The .INF-based portion of the installation does not
succeed from read-only media on Windows 7, even though the same
scenario is just fine on Windows Vista. Reported to Microsoft during
the Windows 7 beta, but was not one of the issues that were addressed
    before Windows 7 release.
The Novell Client install already does copy the installation set to a
local directory, if and when running from a network drive, because the
change in security context that occurs when you elevate SETUP.EXE (or
any application) potentially causes loss of network access for that
application. So its copied to a local directory prior to elevation,
to ensure continued access to the installation set once elevation does
    occur.
The "fix" for the CD/DVD-based failure on Windows 7 was to treat
read-only media the same way, at least on Windows 7. i.e. It just
copies it to a local directory for you before elevating, in order to
    avoid this INF-based install issue.

  • RSAT won't install on Windows 8.1 Pro - "The system cannot find the file specified."

Please help. RSAT won't install on Windows 8.1 Pro. Every time I try, I get the same error - "The system cannot find the file specified.". I really don't want to have to refresh the PC to get it working! I've installed the update successfully on
a fresh win 8.1 enterprise install on a Hyper-V VM.
I am in uk, so have installed the en-US language pack first. I did have a windows component store corruption but I've managed to fix that.
    event log says:
Windows update "Update for Windows (KB2693643)" could not be installed because of error 2147942402 "The system cannot find the file specified." (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe"
    "C:\RSAT Windows8.1-KB2693643-x64.msu" ")
    CBS log (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log): http://1drv.ms/19CAv14

As Roger Lu reported, the log indicates that there is corruption in the update files that you downloaded. The log actually reports “file not found”, so you may also want to check permissions on the extracted files in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\76ecaa86ec6712300c2d71cbcdad378c\.
You can also re-try downloading the files to see if your original download was just corrupt.

It was a permissions issue! Thanks so much Bruce!
I checked the permissions for the folder mentioned above and TrustedInstaller only had List Folder Contents and Special Permissions. So I granted granted Read & Execute to TrustedInstaller and tried installing again...
    1) double clicked the installer.
    2) once it said Initialisation was complete, I checked the permissions again and it had re-set them to as before, so I granted Read & Execute to TrustedInstaller again
    3) Installation was successful.
Not really sure why this happened as it doesn't make sense but it's working now :-)

  • How Do I Get PageMaker 6.5 Installed on Windows 7 Pro?

I've been running PageMaker 6.5 in Windows XP Pro SP 3 for several years, but my XP system has broken down and I have had to upgrade to a Windows 7 Pro machine. How can I install PM 6.5 or newer upgrade so I can open, edit, and create new PageMaker files in the Windows 7 Pro operating system?
I'm sure PageMaker has upgraded several times since I last purchased it, but I have no idea what the current upgrade is. What is the oldest, most affordable upgrade which will still open and edit PM 6.5 files and still install in Windows 7 Pro?
Thank you so much. I've written an educational program to teach and help Military Combat Vets who suffer PTSD and I'm doing the training free of charge,so I can't really afford to pay for a major software upgrade.
    Judi Stifel :--)
    Port St. Lucie, Florida

Thank you both for responding.  I do have one system with XP running so I can open PM files and edit and then save as PDF and transfer to the Win. 7 system, unless the XP system dies again.. which still leaves me in an insecure position.
What program took over for PM and still opens old PM 6.5 files?   It's scary to think that my crashed XP system is the only link between my good PM files that I still use and disaster. If my XP system dies again and can't be revived, I'm in trouble.  Yes, I have two sets of new XP disks but my computer keeps spitting them out...  So far, so good... but for how long I don't know.   So much for proprietary systems.
Any suggestions for an upgrade from PM to another replacement program that Adobe put in place to carry on with PM files?
    Thanks again.

  • HP OfficeJet J6410 won't install under Windows 8

    Hello to you all,
Two days ago, I bought a new notebook for my daughter. She needs it for her study. It's the HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11-e000ed.
Again, just like the situation I wrote about before in this topic over here (link: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Officet-J6410-won-t-install-under-Wind... the OfficeJet Printer J6410 won't install under Windows 8.
Now this is what I've done before the problem occured:
    - I made a username and password for her,
    - I activated Windows 8,
    - I made a recovery-point,
    - I took my external DVD writer, installed Office 2007 Home and Student for her (o.k, I know it's old, but it's very o.k - and legal copy -. for her study, used it myself as well and still do, and never any complaints about that one), and activated it,
    After that and restarting the notebook;
    - the notebeek activated USB 2.0 (it does that automatically at first use),
    - installed XPS2OneNote (to use for Office OneNote 2007),
    - installed SaveAsPDF&XPS,
    - removed Norton Internet Security (I never use it, I use something else for that purpose, but was - and still am - planning to install that on a later moment),
    - I made sure the notebook can access the server we have here at home, and made a share for her.
After that I used the OJ_AIO_J6400_Full_Win_WW_140_408.exe file (Dutch, but I'll translate the text in English).
From this point on I will describe as precisely as possible what happened
    - - the program extracts some files, no problems there,
    - - when the first screen appears, I pressed 'Install',
    - -  a bar appears, and after that another pop-up that says tha you must allow all HP processes. I pressed 'Next',
    - - system is controlled, and after that one must agree with the licence agreements. I checked the box, and pressed 'Next',
    - - the system is prepared for installation and - yes! - there it comes... an error message.
    The error message says:
    C:\users\<username of my daughter.\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS0FF0\Setup\de..
Please not that this is a different message than the one I got before, as I described in my posting before, (link again: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Officet-J6410-won-t-install-under-Wind...
Nonehteless, I assumed that, as before, the problem was with the C+++, just like before. That is why I made the following steps:
    - I used the OJ_AIO_J6400_140_408_Scrubber program, run L4 4 times.
    - I looked for the KB2565063 update, but it isn't there anymore. So, instead, I ran all updates there are until the system said that there are no updates to be found,
    - After that I took the old installation disk that came with the OfficeJet J6410 printer, and (tried to) ran hpsetup.exe. It doesn't do a thing! Literally!!
    - after that I tried to run the the OJ_AIO_J6400_Full_Win_WW_140_408.exe file again. No success. I got the same error as before (see above, the ..\7zS0FF0\Setup\de.. thing again.
    So, what to do now?
Anyone got some helpfull tips for me? I would really appreciate your feedback / help.
    Thank you in advance,

    Hi again,
No, it didn't work. And, the solution you offered neither.
    This is what I've done.
After downloading the  OJ_AIO_J6400_Full_Win_WW_140_408-4.exe file, I tried to install it.
It failed. I got an error message similar to the one before.
    'C:\users\<username of my daughter.\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS57DB\Setup\de.'
I tried to ran the scrubber again, and the CCCUninstaller and tried again.
    Same error message occured.
After that I tried to look for the KB2565063 file again. Found it this time and ran the vcredist_x64 file.
I rebooted the system, tried to run the OJ_AIO_J6400_Full_Win_WW_140_408-4.exe file again.
    Same error message ocuured.
So, after that, I followed the steps you proposed.
Step 2 - searching for hpoins*.dat --> no results found.
Step 3 - searching for hpwins*.dat --> no results found.
Step 4 - I ran the Run Dialog box and typed MSIEXEC /REGSERVER (with AND without the extra space between ('MSIEXEC /REGSERVER') in the Dialog Box and pressed Ok.
Got an error message in Dutch:
'Kan het bestand MSIEXEC /REGSERVER niet vinden. Controleer of u de naam juist hebt ingevoerd en probeer het daarna opnieuw.
Translation: 'Can't find the file MSIEXEC /REGSERVER. Check if you typed the name correctly and try again'.
Step 5 - I ran the Run Dialog box and typed MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER (with AND without the extra space between ('MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER') in the Dialog Box and pressed Ok.
Got an error message in Dutch:
'Kan het bestand MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER niet vinden. Controleer of u de naam juist hebt ingevoerd en probeer het daarna opnieuw.
Translation: 'Can't find the file MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER. Check if you typed the name correctly and try again'.
    So... conclusion: NOTHING worked.
My ideas for a possible solution didn't work, and neither did your ideas for a possible solution.
Reason why I want it to work is because of the HP Solution Center. If I can not install it with the software from the original installation disk, or the software that one can download from the HP site (the OJ_AIO_J6400_Full_Win_WW_140_408-4.exe file that is), than I have no HP Solution Center. That would be a pity, for I am sure my daughter would really love the use and ease of the program, and would really use it a lot for her study.
What's next? What else can I try to solve the problem?
Got any more idea's or helpful hints?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Abhijit,
I am able to install InDesign CS6 manually on the machines from the CD/DVD however when trying to install it via GPO or running the msi using the msi exec commands it doesn't install and leaves the above errors in the event log.
The installation was made using the same CD/DVD and the installation works on the Windows XP clients and software other than InDesign CS6 will install to the Win 7 64-bit machines via GPO.

    Hey!
Sorry for the drop-off from the thread, I must have missed your response, I apologize.
When it comes down to the actual installation and issues revolving around that; it is no longer an HP printer issue. It is an MSI (Microsoft Installer) issue.
For MSI support, I recommend for you to call Microsoft Technical Support at 1-800-642-7676.

  • Can I clean install a Windows 7 Pro System Builder on a Lenovo PC with Windows 8 preinstalled?

Hi. I would like to clean install windows 7 on a Lenovo PC  that came with Windows 8 core preinstalled. I want to format the entire drive and remove windows 8 and clean install windows 7.  I already tried the clean install of Windows 7 Pro to get all of my drivers in line, and now I would like to buy a Product Key.
Would  a Windows 7 Pro System Builder work in my case? Would it work just as smoothly as a retail version? I understand that the System Builder is an OEM version that includes the Product Key, COA, and DVD) Just want to make sure before I buy the System Builder version of Windows 7 Pro.  Thanks.
    Grazzie
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

that should be retail since it seemed to be used for pc upgrades either way your new system builder key should work. those are called refresh because they re-released them sincea bug was found in thier installers. Do you have any key in the computer atm? or is windows just waiting to be activated?
EDIT: its a good copy look here>  http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/14-windows-7-direct-download-links
Should you want to use the DVD images permanently, and don't own a product key yet, you can order a Windows 7 OEM or retail version from Amazon. The OEM reinstallation versions contain a DVD with a product key just like the retail versions. They are significantly cheaper, but lack a proper box packaging, and don't include technical support by Microsoft. The OEM key will work with the Digital River downloads, so you can just pick the cheapest one. Sometimes better editions are the cheaper ones, so all of the following links to Amazon offers might be worth checking. I've already tried to find good deals for all editions and linked to them here:

  • Clean install of Windows 7 Pro or Enterprise creates update issues on Pavilion G6 notebooks

    Hello,
Our small company has 5 older HP Pavilion g6 notebooks running Window 7 Home edition.  We wanted to make them, and a few other Acer laptops, part of our domain.  So, we did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro (you can't upgrade with a volume license key).  After the install, the HP laptops have windows update issues and currupt installs.  The Acer laptops installed with no issues.   I've tried installing the Enterprise version with the same results.  I tried installing from dvd and usb, both with the same results.  Any idea?
    Thank You

Hi, Sorry for the late reply. It seems to be kinda stable now.  Updates would never work from the getgo.  I had to reinstall update agent a few times and run the update troubleshooter found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/windows-update-issues/en-us  Until I got it working, I used Autopatcher to install updates. However, the computer isn't stable enough though to allow someone to use it for work.  I don't recommend doing a clean install on these machines.
